You know who's in this based on the title. You fuckin' know. I personally really like this chapter and I am still avoiding writing a fight scene because how does one write fight scenes? If you know, teach me. Please. Next update will be on August 3rd, a very special day for me so I might post a bit late or the day before. So either August 2nd or late August 3rd. I dunno, I want to try to stick to a schedule so let's just say August 3rd at like 2am like always. It's 3am now, actually.
"That's the first day of academics done!" Midoriya smiles, "Kojiko-kun, you okay?"
Yuudai is laying on his desk, utterly exhausted, "Midoriya-kunnnnn, I already knew it but sitting around just isn't for me. It's so boring! Where's the fun in this?!"
"Well, we have gym in ten minutes so get up!" Midoriya walks over to Yuudai's desk.
"Is Kojiko-kun okay?" Kirishima watches as Midoriya gathers up Yuudai's messy notes.
Midoriya nods, "Yeah, he's just tired."
"Should he go to Recovery Girl?" Kirishima asks.
Yuudai shakes his head, "I just hate sitting around."
"Me too!" Ashido raises her hand, "I can't really pay attention in class that much so I always fail tests!"
"I think that's just because you don't study, Ashido," Kanimari points out.
"Well I could say the same for you!" Ashido throws back at him.
"Hey now, I have my reasons for not doing well on tests and maybe not studying is one of them but that's not the whole story," Kaminari argues.
Aizawa sides the door open, "Kojiko."
"Yes?" Yuudai looks up, chin still resting on his desk.
"Your costume is ready. It's in your locker so try it on for today." Aizawa says and then turns to leaves.
"Sensei! Does that mean we're all wearing out outfits today?" Yaoyorozu asks before he leaves.
Aizawa turns around and says a simple 'yes' before leaving.
"I guess it's time to head over to the locker rooms then." Sero hums and starts walking.
"So what kind of design did you make, Yuu-kun?" Ashido walks next to Yuudai who's unconsciously following Midoriya.
Yuudai fiddles with his hoodie string, "I...it's a little…"
"I'm sure it's great! After all, there's still time to change stuff if you don't like it," Kirishima adds, "Plus the designers they give us are really good at their job!"
"Now that I think about it, what's your Quirk?" Ojiro asks, "It wasn't mentioned in the press conference and you didn't tell us in your introduction."
"It's…" Yuudai doesn't know what to say.
Kirishima pipes up, "It's fine if you don't know how to explain it. We'll see it during next period."
Yuudai nods and everyone starts walking in their little groups. Kaminari slows his pace to walk next to Yuudai.
He talks in a hushed voice, "So do you need a stim toy or something?"
Yuudai tilts his head.
Kaminari laughs nervously, "What I mean is, like something to fidget with. I have a few for when I can't concentrate in class. You can borrow one if you want to. Ah...mine are all plastic though, because of my Quirk."
"Really?" Yuudai's eyes seem to sparkle, "I can borrow one?"
Kaminari nods, "Yeah, I have them in my desk."
"What kinds?" Yuudai asks.
"Um...I have this tangle one that's easy to play with. And there's this other one that's a cube with a lot of different things on it. I was thinking of buying a moss ball because I've found Ojiro's tail is really calming." Kaminari rambles a little.
Yuudai nods, "I used to have one that spun around a lot."
"Like a ring? Or the ball one?" Kaminari asks.
"The ring one."
Kaminari smiles, "I think those are neat, but I can't use them because most of those have metal."
"You said your Quirk didn't let you have anything but plastic, right?"
"Yeah. My Quirk is Electrification." Kaminari says proudly, "So metal might not be the best match for me when stimming. I'm happy with plastic though."
"You'll let me borrow your stuff?"
Kaminari nods, "Yeah, as long as you give it back at the end of the day. I have a few at home that I don't use that I could give to you."
"Really?" Yuudai's eyes shine again.
Kaminari is a little surprised to hear Yuudai speak so normally, he'd been pretty quiet all day.
"Ye-yeah. If you don't mind that some are a little worn down."
"Kaminari-kun is nice, Really nice." Yuudai says enthusiastically.
Kaminari smiles, "Thanks, Kojiko."
"Kojiko-kun, do you know your lock numbers?" Midoriya shouts to him from the door of the locker room.
Yuudai and Kaminari hadn't noticed but they'd lagged behind a little while talking.
"Um...maybe." Yuudai calls back.
The two of them run to the locker room. Midoriya helps Yuudai open his locker, it takes a few tries but it opens eventually. Inside Yuudai finds his gym uniform and the case with the number 21 on it.
"If you're uncomfortable changing here the bathroom is over there." Midoriya points at the entryway at the end of the locker room leading to the showers and stalls.
Yuudai nods and heads over to the stalls.
"He sensitive or what?" Mineta snorts.
Midoriya shrugs, "Or what."
"It's fine if he is, even I use the stalls from time to time." Kirishima says offhandedly.
Midoriya shoots Kirishima a half smile. He returns it with a "no problem" smile. It's not actually an uncommon thing for at least one person to use the stalls. At the beginning of the semester, sure, some people changed in the stalls almost everyday but after a while everyone just became a little more comfortable with each other.
Midoriya knocks on the door of the stall after a few minutes, "Kojiko-kun."
"Yeah?"
Midoriya hesitates, "You okay?"
Yuudai opens the door, "What makes you think I'm not?"
Midoriya looks over Yuudai, "Not bad."
Yuudai grins, "You think? I like the color changes they made."
Yuudai's costume is a silver grey base with the joint supports a clear blue. The accents are a royal purple, similar to Aoyama's cape but deeper. The mouth covering is the same grey with black accents and has holes on the sides for breathability. The goggles are simple with the frames grey and the lenses seem blue in some lighting and purple in others. There are two cuffs around his forearms, the built in crutches. The gloves are fingerless and have a row of hard metal wrapping around the knuckles with the metal directly on the knuckle raised to a dull point. On the waist are loops for a belt, Yuudai has chosen not to wear his support belt today but it does look nice. There are about four different pouches on it for different items. Today, though, Yuudai just clipped his collapsible water bottle to a loop and called it enough.
"They got the crutches in?" Midoriya examined the two cuffs.
Yuudai nods, "I press this down and slide it, then this deploys."
Yuudai presses down on the cuff and slides the hidden panel back. The rest of the crutch folds out and Yuudai leans on it then puts it back.
"Very compact." Midoriya mutters, "What about knee supports?"
"It feels very supported, Midoriya-kun. You worried or something?" Yuudai teases.
Midoriya smiles, "My friend just got their first hero costume. I'm a little worried that you might try something reckless."
"Don't be." Yuudai walks to his locker and shoves his clothes into his locker, "I'm not that dumb."
"I beg to differ," Midoriya says with a sigh.
Yuudai shrugs and walks out the locker room.
Midoriya follows him out, "The training grounds we normally use are over there. It's a little bit of a walk."
"I think today is just free time."
"Maybe," Tokoyami smooths out his cloak and looks over his shoulder, "they could be watching to see how we prepare for the exam."
"If that's true then we should just do this normally."
"I think we should go all out!" Kirishima smashes his fists together, "Bakugou, you wanna spar with me?"
"Whatever, Shitty Hair!" Bakugou growls and marches ahead of everyone.
"Kojiko-kun, do you wanna try some Quirk stuff?" Midoriya holds up a notebook, "I brought this along."
"You take your notebooks to gym class?" Yuudai flips through the book.
Midoriya shrugs, "I was just thinking it might be useful for you."
"Maybe." Yuudai hands the book back.
"Kojiko-kun! Your costume is really cool!" Hagakure bounces toward Yuudai.
Yuudai places the mouthpiece on his face, "Thanks."
"So are you going to spar with someone?" Ashido asks.
"I'm thinking about it." Yuudai says quietly.
Yaoyorozu gathers everyone in a group at the edge training grounds, "Actually, I was thinking that we could have a mock tournament, just for fun and to add some competitive spirit."
"I don't have time for games, Ponytail. I'm going to train." Bakugou turns away from the group and stalks off.
Kirishima begins to follow him, "Sorry guys, I said I'd spar with Bakugou today."
"You say that everyday!" Kaminari shouts at Kirishima as he runs off.
Ojiro raises his hand, "Actually I'd rather practice my Quirk a bit more before fighting."
Yaoyorozu nods, "We haven't had many chances to practice lately."
Yuudai tugs on Midoriya's shoulder, "Is there a field nearby?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I'd rather practice on my own for today," Yuudai glances at Yaoyorozu who's creating sticks to draw for the mock tournament.
Midoriya smiles softly, "Do you want me to spar with you?"
Yuudai shakes his head, "No, you should stay with your friends."
"You are one of my friends," Midoriya looks worriedly at Yuudai.
"I can spar with you," Todoroki says, "I'll give you targets to destroy with my ice. Besides, I need to practice my left in a more empty area."
Yuudai nods, "Thanks, Todoroki-kun."
Yaoyorozu asks for people joining the tournament. There's only a few people that stayed for the tournament, Iida decided he wanted to do laps, Ojiro decided he wanted to train more, Koda wandered off somewhere, and Tokoyami was last seen sneaking into the forest nearby.
Todoroki leads the way to the nearest open field, a little surprised to see Kirishima and Bakugou occupying the space with their sparring. Normally they fought in rockier areas with more obstacles to work around rather than easy, open fields.
"You extras should find a different place to spar," Bakugou shouts, launching an explosion at Kirishima's arms, "This area is taken."
Todoroki keeps a straight face, "It shouldn't be a problem, heroes often fight in busy areas. You should be able to spar Kirishima and not become collateral damage in our match."
Bakugou doesn't like what Todoroki has said for whatever reason and continues to shout, "What was that, Half n' Half Bastard? I'm collateral damage in your match? That's bullshit, if anything I could beat you up at the same time as I win my match."
"I can see what Midoriya-kun meant about aggressive," Yuudai whispers to himself.
"What was that, Blueberry Hair?" Bakugou yells, "You don't think I can win against three people?"
Yuudai smiles forcefully, "I'm not saying that, it's just that…"
"Kojiko wanted to fight one-on-one with me, your explosiveness isn't needed," Todoroki says bluntly.
"What was that!?"
Kirishima waves his hands, "Calm down, dude, we can work things out. We can split the field, we'll take half the field and they can take the other."
"HA!?" Bakugou growls, "Why should we give up half the field when there's plenty of other places for these two extras to run off to?"
Yuudai stares Bakugou in the eyes as Kirishima holds his arm out so Bakugou doesn't charge towards them. Staring someone in the eyes is probably one of the things you shouldn't do when you don't want to challenge someone. Especially Bakugou. It's like looking a leopard in the eye.
"What about a two-v-two?" Kirishima suggests instead, seeing that splitting the field won't work.
Todoroki glances at Yuudai, "Are you okay with that?"
"That's perfectly fine," Yuudai says stubbornly and smiles at Todoroki, "Two-v-two."
Bakugou laughs...maybe cackles, "You extras are going down!"
Recovery Girl really can't grasp how this managed to happen. How the hell do four students, two of which she expected better from, end up occupying all four of the beds in the nurse's room? The clear answer is definitely gym class but Recovery Girl swears that there are teachers overseeing that class so that this idiocy won't happen. Right?
She sighs and faces Bakugou first, "I've healed your broken ribs so when you go home, rest."
Bakugou only grunts in response.
"And you," Recovery Girl turns to Yuudai, "I thought you were told not to push it on your first day."
Yuudai avoids her judgemental gaze, "It was just sparring."
"You fractured your right arm and your knee is swollen," Recovery Girl says bluntly, "There's nothing I can do about the knee other than give you ice but I did heal your arm. You also need to rest."
"I'm sorry, Recover Girl," Kirishima gives her a sweet smile, "We were holding back considerably."
Recovery Girl is not convinced, "I healed the cracks in your skin, be thankful it didn't chip off in layers. Rest for you, too." Recovery Girl turns to Todoroki, who's lying in the bed next to Yuudai, "And you weren't even injured, why are you in bed?"
Todoroki lifts his head off the pillow, "I just thought that since everyone else was in beds I should be too."
Recovery Girl sighs and lets him stay instead of sending him home.
"I'll be leaving for a moment to talk to Aizawa. Don't leave and don't move. Better yet, get some rest like I've told you to," Recovery Girl sighs again before sliding the door closed behind her.
…
…
"...So, close match, right?" Kirishima smiles brightly.
Yuudai smiles back, "Your Quirk is super strong, Kirishima-kun."
"Ooooo!" Kirishima sits up suddenly then winces as his body aches, "You used my name!"
Yuudai sits up and looks at him, "What'd you mean?"
Kirishima uses his hands to talk, Yuudai finds it...entertaining, "I mean, the entire day you've only spoken directly to a few people. Right there you used my name, I feel like this a great honor!"
Yuudai tilts his head, "I don't think I'm doing it on purpose."
"Maybe I've gained your trust," Kirishima grins, shark teeth...Yuudai notes, "Like after we fought I've gained some sort of stronger connection to you and that means you trust me enough to talk to me one-on-one!"
"This isn't one-on-one," Yuudai says, "Both Bakugou-kun and Todoroki-kun are here."
"There! You said Bakugou's name," Kirishima points out, "Maybe the easiest way for you to get comfortable with someone is to fight them? Manly and smart! A lot of people show their true colors in battle."
Yuudai shrugs, "I guess that makes sense? I'm not sure myself."
"Still, I'm glad I can be friends with you now," Kirishima says, giddy.
"Who cares about friendship, that's bullshit!" Bakugou says in sudden rage, "I want a fucking rematch. That match didn't end correctly!"
"You mean you would have rather gone on until one of us died?" Todoroki asks flatly.
Bakugou sits up in a flash, "Of course, you Half n' Half Bastard!"
"Ooo, a fight to the death sounds very heroic of you," Kirishima jokes, "In all seriousness, Bakugou, we can always have a rematch once we're all back in top condition."
"Back in top condition?! I'm always in top condition, Shitty Hair!" Bakugou shouts, "I'm ready to fight at any time!"
Kirishima snaps his fingers, "Now that's true manliness, ready to face anything!"
"So rematch?" Yuudai asks.
"Not today, you're not," Aizawa says as he opens the door.
Everyone's attention focuses on him. Were they in trouble? Was their match not considered sparring? Was this going to be bad news?
Aizawa can read them like children's books, "You're not in trouble. I'm just here to tell you not to do it again without supervision."
"So we're allowed to do it again?" Yuudai says cautiously.
Aizawa glares at Yuudai, using his Quirk for a few more intimidation points, "You're supposed to be resting and for some reason you thought you'd get into an all out fight and get away with it?"
Yuudai laughs nervously, "Yes?"
"No."
"Ah."
"So are we in trouble?" Kirishima raises his hand to get Aizawa's attention.
Aizawa stops using his Quirk and sighs, "No, you just have to write an apology note to the staff that have to tend to the mess you created in the field."
"Right!" Kirishima grins, "We'll do that."
"What do I have to write a fucking apology note?!" Bakugou growls, "If they don't want to clean it up I can do it my-fucking-self!"
Kirishima sighs, "Bakugou, we can't possibly fix that crater. Just say sorry for the damages and let the pros handle it."
"Besides, if they don't fix it then we can't have a rematch." Yuudai points out.
That seems to be enough for Bakugou to calm down a little and accept his fate to write an apology note. The staff would appreciate it because it turns out that the damages in the 'sparring match' was more than just a few damages. Things like burned trees and uprooted trees and sudden new bodies of water from the craters and melted ice would require a lot of work.
"Good," Aizawa nods, "When you're done you can hand them in to me."
"Sure," Kirishima glances at Todoroki who hasn't spoken in a while.
"He's asleep, if you're wondering."
"Really?" Kirishima exclaims, "He fell asleep? But he's not even injured."
"Let him sleep," Yuudai sighs, "Maybe he needs it."
"You need it," Aizawa says, "Now let's go."
Yuudai perks up, "You're driving me back, too?"
"Ye-"
"Kojiko-kun!" Midoriya yells and almost slides the door out of the frame, "Are you okay?"
Yuudai rolls his eyes, "I'm fine. I don't know why you keep worrying."
"Because you were fighting when you're not supposed to!" Midoriya exclaims, "And you said you wouldn't do anything dumb!"
Midoriya stands next to Yuudai's bed and looks him over.
"I'm not injured. Recovery Girl already healed everyone," Yuudai brushes away his worried looks.
Midoriya isn't fully satisfied with that, "Then you should get going so you can rest. Her Quirk drains your stamina, which already happens with your Quirk, so you should be double drained right now. How are you even awake?"
Yuudai rolls his eyes for the thousandth time that day, "I'm fine, Midoriya-kun. Let's just get going."
Midoriya grins, "Okay! Then, I'll see everyone tomorrow."
"Yeah." Todoroki replies, startling a few people.
"You were awake?" Kirishima asks.
Todoroki nods and gets out of the bed, picking up his bag and yawning.
Yuudai stretches his legs a bit before standing up, leaning most of his weight on his right leg. Midoriya forces Yuudai to use his crutch which Yuudai says he doesn't need but uses anyway. Todoroki leaves ahead of everyone, saying that he has somewhere to be but would see everyone tomorrow.
"See you tomorrow, Kojiko, Midoriya!" Kirishima waves at the two of them as they follow Aizawa out the door. Kirishima looks at Bakugou, who is half asleep and hands him his bag, "Bakugou, are you sure you're able to go home okay? You won't fall asleep on the train and miss your stop or anything?"
Bakugou snatches the bag away from Kirishima and growls, "I'm just fine, Shitty Hair."
Kirishima smiles fondly then rushes to the door and shouts down the hall, "Kojiko! I forgot! What do you want for a present?"
Yuudai, who is halfway down the hall at that point, can still clearly hear Kirishima and replies with, "I don't really care! My favorite color is light blue, though!"
"Oh! Thanks!" Kirishima smiles, "I'll see you tomorrow!"
Yuudai waves at him then hurries after Aizawa and Midoriya.
Bakugou had joined Kirishima at the door, "What the fuck was that about?"
Kirishima frowns jokingly, "Man, Bakugou, you really need to pay attention. It's Kojiko's birthday tomorrow."
"Why should I care about some extra's birthday," Bakugou huffs and pushes past Kirishima who follows him.
"I'm just saying that you could stand to be a little nicer to the 'extra' that nearly beat you in a fight," Kirishima thinks for a moment, "Actually you could just be nicer to people in general."
Bakugou huffs, "Are you going to follow me like some lost dog, Shitty Hair? Go home already."
Kirishima smiles, "I'm just making sure you don't pass out on your feet."
"I'm fucking fine. Now go home."
"Sure, Bakugou, but I was wondering if-"
"If you need me to tutor you then spit it out already," Bakugou stomps his way down the stairs.
Kirishima laughs, "No, that's not it but I'll take you up on that offer!"
"HA!? Who said it was a fucking offer?!" Bakugou shouts loudly, "You're the one who keeps asking like a shitty record on loop!"
"Right, right," Kirishima says distractedly, "But I was thinking that we could go buy Kojiko a present."
"Again, why the hell do I need to go with you to do that?"
Kirishima shrugs, "Because it would be nice of you? Besides, you're already on the bus."
Bakugou snaps out of his thoughts and looks around him. They are indeed on the bus.
"Fuck you, Shitty Hair," Bakugou says little bite.
Kirishima grins, "We just gotta find something that he might like, I'm sure we'll be able to do that."
The two of them spend about an hour and a half wandering around the mall. Kirishima stops at any store he sees that has something blue inside, even if it's irrelevant to a gift for a fifteen year old. Like the children's clothing store and the sports gear store and the adul...yeah, that. Bakugou, on the other hand, has to steer Kirishima to the innocent right stores. It's a process that's been fine tuned after a few weeks of hanging out together.
Eventually, Kirishima comes across a blue-purple mug with a white print of a shark on it. He likes it, mainly because of the shark, but maybe Yuudai likes sharks too. Plus it's blue so he'll like it even if he doesn't like sharks. Maybe the blue and the shark will make Yuudai like sharks. Maybe Kirishima will spur Yuudai into a shark phase with this one mug. Maybe sharks will take over the wor-
"How about this one?" Kirishima shows Bakugou the mug, Bakugou is busy looking at kitchen knives.
Bakugou examines the shark, "Eh."
"Is that a no again?" Kirishima looks closer at the mug, "I really thought this would be it."
"I don't understand why we have to get that shitty Blueberry a present, we don't know anything about him," Bakugou sets down the knife set and looks at the mug with Kirishima.
Kirishima hums, "I just thought it would be nice. After all, it seems like he doesn't have that many friends and he doesn't live with his family."
Bakugou glances at Kirishima, "Where'd you figure that shit from?"
"Hm?" Kirishima looks back at him, "Oh, it was just the way that Midoriya and Kojiko were talking. Neither of them really used the word 'home' or 'house.' I guess it's compl-"
"Whatever it is, it's none of our fucking business," Bakugou says quickly, "Now buy the damn present and let's go home."
Kirishima grins sheepishly, "I guess it isn't my business, you're right. But I think Kojiko's a good person and plus he's good in a fight. He'd be a good friend."
Bakugou clicks his tongue and grabs the blue-purple mug, a roll of hero themed wrapping paper, a white card with a picture of a sheep on it, and a package of random candies. Then he shoves all the things in Kirishima's arms and walks away, deciding to wait by the door for Kirishima to pay. Kirishima, however, is slightly stunned by Bakugou's movements and stands in place for a full minute before moving to pay for the presents.
"Bakugou, you really were paying attention to Kojiko. I'm sure he'll like this," Kirishima holds up the bag proudly.
Bakugou clicks his tongue again, "I just did it so we could get out of there already. You're so fucking slow, Shitty Hair."
Kirishima pats Bakugou on the shoulder, "Well, I'll go home now and stop bothering you. I'll see you tomorrow, actually you should probably sign the card now."
"Why?" Bakugou's mouth slants, "I'll just sign it tomorrow before class."
Bakugou walks away before Kirishima can say anything else similar to 'you do care.' Kirishima can only smile proudly, Bakugou is being a little nicer.
