From then on in an effort to work on patching their relationship Lena stopped by to keep Eddie company when Jamie had to work. She showed her breathing techniques and ways Jamie could help. "The doctor is monitoring me because I gained so much weight. I'm so bored here."
Lena smiled, "It's hard being stuck in one place for long periods of time. I used to drive your father nuts by the sixth month. Not that I worked but still. It would get lonesome without him. Just remember to do what you need to for yourself. When Jamie is here let him give you a massage, have a romantic dinner with him. Both of you could take a nice hot bubble bath and it helps your back pain."
A bubble bath actually sounded like a good idea to Eddie who made a note for later. "Yeah, I might do that. Thanks mom. That helps actually."
"Have you and Jamie found out the gender," Lena poured herself a glass of wine they kept in the house for Jamie and guests.
Eddie shook her head slowly, "No. We both decided not to find out and be surprised when they're born. We don't care what they are as long as they're both healthy. " She rubbed a hand slowly massaging over the large baby bump that made standing difficult. "Ugh I have to pee sorry mom."
"No problem sweetheart," Lena set her wine down on the table to help her daughter up. "Want me to come in case you need help?"
"No thanks. I wear dresses now because they're so much easier when I have to pee all the time." Eddie wobbled down their small hallway to the bathroom. Her back burned and the pressure of having to pee every hour didn't help. She gave up on bras, what was the point if she was staying in the apartment. She sighed just making it in time. A month and a half to go.
At work across the river in another borough Jamie walked through the precinct hallway with a file in hand. He smiles at the desk sergeant, "Here you go boss. Boss signed off on it already so it's ready."
"Thanks Reagan." Sergeant Yi a veteran of twenty five years smiled at the youngest Reagan who was making a name for himself in the short time in this precinct.
Acknowledging the older man with a quiet nod Jamie started back down the hall with a quick detour to the kitchen for coffee. He felt better Eddie was with someone while he was working. It worried him having to leave her alone.
He stopped in the kitchen glad it was empty and took his phone out. He found Eddie's name then sent a text. Just wanted to say I love you and hope you're having a good time with your mom. I'll see you after tour.
While he waited Jamie poured a fresh cup which he took a sip of. On the counter his phone vibrated with a text back from Eddie. "I love you too Jamie and we are. See you at home. I have a surprise for you.
Coffee in one hand, phone in the other Jamie started back to his small office. His heart raced a little at the last part. He didn't see two officers coming his way until he heard them greet him in passing. "Yeah so he doesn't know what to do. They want to keep the dog but cant."
"Heath. Brian. What's up," Jamie pocketed the phone, looking up at the two men both close to his age.
Brian, the younger officer at thirty turned his attention to the youngest Reagan. "My brother he's moving and can't take their dog They're trying to find a home before they have to leave. He's a gentle giant adult dog, house trained."
He eyed the kid, "Hang on just a minute." Jamie took his phone out, dialing Eddie's cell.
It rang twice before her soft voice greeted him. "Hey babe, is everything okay? "
"Yeah everything is fine. I just was talking to two officers One guy was telling me that his brother is moving and they can't take their golden retriever with him. I remember you told me once that you wanted one."
Eddie's eyes rounded even though he couldn't see her. "You're okay with that? I mean it's a big responsibility and we have the twins coming soon. Do you think we can take care of a dog too? Would the dog be okay with newborns?"
"Well from what I know Brian has kids himself so I think he'll be fine. I'm okay with it if you want to," Jamie replied softly.
Smiling knowing she'll have to explain the news to her mom Eddie answered, "As long as we're on the same page then yeah. I have always wanted one."
Agreeing Jamie smiled at the phone, "I know you have. I'll tell Brian and arrange but us to meet the dog so he can see us before we commit. I love you Eddie. Have fun with mom and I'll be home right after tour ends."
He hung up and started back out while pocketing the phone. "Hey Brian, can Eddie and I meet the dog? She's always wanted one so we're interested in adopting your brothers."
"Yeah of course. Um I can swing by your place Friday seeing as Eddie isn't able to travel and that way Buddy can see the house too. He's a good dog, very loyal and protective, good with kids," Brian offered his hand. "This would be good if you can take him. At least we know he's in a good home.
Jamie hoped so too as he turned back to work. He left two minutes after end of tour to drive uptown back to Eddie. She sat with Lena on the couch both smiling as he walked in. "Hey. Lena. Eddie, how do you feel?"
He crossed the room to kiss her head. "My back hurts and I'm peeing so much I might as well live in the bathroom but other than that. Did you talk to the officer?"
"Yeah, he's bringing the dog Buddy over on Friday to meet us and let us meet him." Jamie put an arm around her smiling at Lena when she stood. "Would you like to stay for dinner Lena? It won't be long to make."
"Thank you Jamie another time I promise. Edit, call me if you need."
Jamie made dinner, listening to Eddie catch him up and everything she and Lena talked about today. He smiled, cleaning up all the pots and dishes after. When he returned to the living room it was empty. "Eddie?"
"in the bathroom Jamie. Come in." He followed Eddie's voice to their bathroom and pushed open the door. The water ran already steaming up their mirrors with a scent of lavender hanging in the air. Eddie stood next to the bathroom smiling at him. "Can you help me with this dress?"
Wordlessly staring at her Jamie crossed the room letting his eyes meet hers as he slipped her dress up. She stood in front of him completely naked, pregnant belly rounded out. "Your turn," she whispered. Before he could move she slowly lifted his shirt off. Jamie realizing what she wanted helped her with the rest then got in first.
The water wasn't terribly hot but warm enough to be comfortable for them. After getting in he took Eddie's hand helping her in the tub. Jamie wrapped his arms over her large stomach slowly sitting them down so Eddie sat with her back to her.
"Hmm this is nice," Eddie laid her head back against his shoulder happily. She breathed in relaxed by the warm water and Jamie's arms, feeling him brushing against her.
Jamie sighed warmly in her ear, "Yeah it really is. " He kissed her neck then down to her shoulder the only access he could reach and held Eddie close to him. Whenever she was in his arms it felt right. He locked his hands under her belly with a gentle massage, whispering into her ear. "I love you Eddie. I can't wait to meet our babies."
They sat there peacefully for nearly a half hour when Eddie shifted trying to get comfortable. "Water is getting cold maybe we should get out."
With his help Eddie managed over the tub with Jamie a step behind her. He towel dried her body then his realizing they forgot to take a change of clothes. When his eye caught Eddie she smiled. "It's fine," she moved his hands around his waist, rocked up onto her toes to kiss him. They kissed again, each coming faster as Eddie cupped behind Jamie against her body.
Not breaking the kiss he led Eddie to their bedroom where this would be a whole lot easier. Gently setting her on the bed Jamie moved over breathing hard. A sparkle twinkled in his eyes realizing Eddie set this all up. She was amazing.
That night they reconnected in the moonlight's glow coming through the window. Eddie seemed to be feeling better as they met several times , each one slow and sweet with careful attention to the other. Around midnight after the fourth time with breaks in between to catch their breaths Eddie lay on Jamie's chest. Every touch was so gentle but she was still surprised the neighbors didn't come knocking.
As they lay in bed both sweaty Eddie ran her hand over his chest slowly. He was fit, Jamie took pride in making sure he stayed healthy for the job. She tilted her head up not surprised to find his eyes studying her. "You know it's very rude to stare at someone," she smiled.
"I can't help it when the person I'm looking at is so beautiful. How did this happen to have such a beautiful woman like you," Jamie's eyes sparked at her. Every day with Eddie was like a dream come true.
Eddie smiled, "You got lucky. I fell for some handsome city boy cop on the beach. "
Laughing lightly Jamie knew it was true. I fell for the beautiful girl on the beach he thought as he rubbed her back. And now she's my wife and the mother of my kids.
