Jodie had walked up while he sat gawking at the contents.
"These are yours," she explained.
"I don't agree with this at all. This is not good, and your criminal backstory doesn't change that. Tell me, if this is the ONLY reason that Japan isn't overrun, why is every other country fine?" he challenged, hoping that she would rethink. He knew it wasn't likely.
The FBI agent stood silently for a moment, perhaps thinking of a way to answer him, "The whole world has this program. It doesn't have a name. It was never given one. Despite that, it is well known among leaders across the globe." she finally said. While saying this, she knelt down to the toy box and closed it slowly," I am very aware that you will not go along with this willingly, especially if there isn't a push…" she paused.
Shinichi would never admit it, but he began to worry slightly. What could she have on him? He became aware of the fact that she wasn't focusing on him anymore.
One of the many doors to his left opened, and a silver cart began rolling out slowly. Camel walked in sporting a yellow-stained lab coat and cracked glasses, but more interesting were the numerous vials located on the tarnished cart.
With a wave of her hand, Jodie introduced the mysterious substance, "This… is our end of the bargain." She walked up to the cart and picked up a previously hidden needle full of the grayish liquid.
Shinichi backed up slowly, not sure if he could trust the FBI as he once did. These last few moments had provided him with precious little, and he wasn't sure what was going on anymore. Despite his strong suspicions, he was drawn again by curiosity. What did the vial contain…? He stayed silent as she walked closer with the syringe. Maybe…he should hear them out? No! These people are cold-blooded killers! What argument could they possibly hold that would convince him otherwise in the first place? He stood his ground, "your end?" he whispered suspiciously.
Jodie laughed and answered patiently, "Yes. You couldn't possibly believe that only your precious Haibara could create such a poison. With the right materials, and perhaps a little help from spies, creating an antidote is simple."
At this, Shinichi recoiled, "You have a cure? That's your end of the bargain? I can go back?" he reeled. He couldn't believe something this fortuitous. Could this façade finally end? He laughed almost insanely and looked back at her, "You gave me this opportunity, but with such an ultimatum?"
The FBI agents looked at him with something akin to pity. The female agent moved first, moving towards him yet again. She spoke, "I understand this may be difficult, but if it makes you feel any better, we would have recruited you either way. As for this timing, well, we needed time to make the serum. It was surprisingly difficult." She took another small step," However, this serum is special. While other cures would age you and keep you that way, this one allows you to switch between the two, and I assume this would be much more effective considering the black organization would need to be defeated first either way."
Back at it again with the convincing words he admitted. The child looked at the floor in thought. In his current situation, this opportunity was exceedingly better than what he had been doing previously. Perhaps he would be able to get through this without harming someone or becoming an accomplice. He became angry with himself for even considering it, but he began to wonder if becoming an assassin was as bad as the world had made it out to be. The more he thought about it, the more he was convinced that this, while not ideal, was the best possible course of action. While lost in his thoughts, Shinichi felt a small prick on his arm. He flinched and looked up only to see the syringe pushing the last bit of the cure into him. He soon thought nothing…
Jodie walked back to the cart, leaving the unconscious boy on the floor behind her. She deposited the needle in a disposal bag and smiled, "I think we've convinced him," she said hopefully," That means! Time for training. As soon as he wakes up, of course."
Camel looked down the boy who was now looking quite distressed by something, "Are you sure he'll be fine?" he asked worriedly.
"Of Course!" Jodie answered back with disturbing certainty, "He only needs rest."
The worried male nodded reluctantly and turned the cart back around. He left to fetch water for the child and to unlock the makeshift bedroom the two agents had constructed a day prior.
After he had left, the optimistic assassin scooped up Shinichi and began to follow after Camel.
