The persistent sound of rain drowned out Shinichi's worries for a short time. He awkwardly hobbled over to the closet with quick consideration of how he would train anything in this state. He hadn't been this tall in ages, and his body hadn't quite adjusted yet. The clothes he found inside the small room were unsurprisingly a perfect fit.
With a short glance at the clock, he began stretching. It was 1212 according to the analog, so he had plenty of time. He spared a moment to think about the rest of his hodgepodge family he had collected over this last year. How would he explain his trip? If he went back. A sharp sadness broke him yet again from his thoughts as the security camera rotated.
Renewed determination finished his stretches, and the teen observed the analog now reading 1315. He would go now.
"Welcome!" a cheery voice echoed through the training room. It seemed almost a waste to have a room this large only for practice, but what did Shinichi know? Jodie held out the E for longer than necessary as she ushered the boy towards a mat on the ground, "You most likely won't see anyone involved in this program other than myself and Camel for a good while. Very secretive, you get it."
The FBI agent swished across the mat with experience leaving the detective to wonder how long she had done this. While she prattled on about an array of weapons he was already intimately familiar with, the room caught his attention. It was different than the one he first encountered. He assumed that this area had once been a hanger. It was a dull gray with a surprising amount of burn marks on the reinforced walls. Industrial fans covered the walls and yet did very little as the heat was almost oppressive. The only factor disrupting this theory was the distinct lack of rolling doors. Only one entry existed in this room, a small single door by the wall behind him.
"…yes?" Jodie finished expecting an answer from the thinking teen. Shinichi started and looked back at her with a confirmation escaping his mouth… though he wasn't sure what he was confirming. Nevertheless, the agent seemed satisfied and walked towards him, "Good. I thought I would get that out of the way before the actual training. Now, we are going to focus on hand to hand combat first."
What followed was more than the boy had ever anticipated, and he was sure that he would be sore. On the bright side, he felt significantly more aware of what this impromptu job would entail. After all was said and done, he was almost hyperventilating on the mat. He had been laboring under the misapprehension that exercise had taken place whenever he ran after a case. Winded, he hoisted himself up and followed Jodie in a haze until she led him to a sort of cafeteria. This smacked him in the face because it honestly looked like a high school cafeteria.
"This is where you will go after our morning sessions. It is staffed by previous or retired FBI agents who have signed contracts to be here. Cool, right?" Jodie gave her monologue in her usual cheerful manner full of hand gestures and sprinklings of English words, "… Besides, I had hoped to discuss something important with you while eating."
This last sentence intrigued the assassin-in-training enough for him to start listening, "You will gather your food at the tray line over there and sit with me at table 10. Okay?" She continued, and he nodded as he walked over to the line. The older had brought lunch with her and went straight to the table.
Once settled, she gave him a serious look, "Okay!" she started, her face startlingly dissimilar to her tone, "I have a proposition for you." She waited for an answer, which he gave with a small nod and an emotionless face of his own, "I spoke with colleagues on the matter of your family and friends. Yes, we are aware that our vacation excuse won't last long, especially with your friends, so we want you to consider going back. I'm sure you are already about to say yes, but listen first. You will not be able to tell anyone…got it? You will live your life as if this never happened in front of everyone else, even other FBI members, but you will continue to train with me twice weekly and exercise on your own. Eventually, you will have your own missions to cover away from your detective duties as well. Are we clear?" She ended with a bright tone, obviously expecting a good answer.
She was right, Shinichi was ecstatic. While he would have to lie, he would still be able to live his life normally. On top of everything, he could defeat the Black Organization without having to worry about the antidote as well. Haibara had recently revoked her previous identity and would be living as her child persona forever, according to Jodie's info.
"Yes!" he replied quickly, "But how am I going to curb suspicion when returning?"
She replied excitedly, "Oh! We already have a plan. Quick, get dressed, and we'll brief you."
