Heiji and Ran chatted until her phone rang. She walked over and answered it as energized as was possible, "Hello?" she started before her dad's screaming overtook the phone.
"Hey Ran!" He yelled excitedly, "I finally found service up on this damned mountain! I wanted to check in with you; my senses are going off! Is that detective brat with you?"
Heiji interrupted him and took the phone himself, "Oi! Old man, where ya at? Why can't Nee-chan over here remember y'all leavin'?" He interrogated quickly.
"What are you doing there, brat? Means that other one's with you too?!" The only slightly concerned dad yelled over the phone, "Ran told me to take the freeloader brat when we only got two tickets. I haven't seen much of him though, good. We're heading home tomorrow; you better get lost soon brat!" The phone lost connection, and the two teens stared at each other for the longest while.
"Do ya remember saying that?" Heiji asked, hopefully. Unfortunately, she had not. They laughed nervously and started to dismiss their worries. The older Mori wouldn't have been so normal had something been wrong. They would wait until tomorrow.
After a somewhat restless night, the door clicked open, awaking the two teens. Heiji had slept on the couch and was the first to hear the barrage of insults for staying alone in their house. As soon as he escaped, he bolted over to the shrunken Shinichi and looked him over, "Why didn't you tell me you went on a trip?" he semi-whined.
Shinichi laughed slightly, looking weirdly relieved. Heiji, of course, didn't notice as he was too busy with his own relief. He'd never admit it openly, but he was never actually sure why the terror overtook him. His worries seemed trivial now.
"I'm home!" The child shouted giddily. His excitement was cut short, however, as his pocket vibrated, signaling a phone call. He thought on his feet and said with childlike glee, "My friends are calling! Hello? Hello?" He yelled, trailing off down the hallway to maintain his façade. The voice on the other line chuckled at the display and answered back with another cheery hello.
Jodie smiled as she held the phone to her ear. She had called the boy as soon as she was sure he was home. The line flickered to life with a couple of loud hellos crackling through, "Hello to you as well!" she cried with childish joy, "I was hoping to speak to Shinichi. Is he there?" she continued, obviously having fun at this point. Camel was sitting behind her with a blank look, but her enthusiasm was quite contagious. The other line became silent.
"What do you want?" the child's voice broke through with expected maturity.
"Honestly, I just wanted to check up and catch you up on a few things extra. Obviously, this will be the last phone call as a child receiving multiple is slightly more suspicious than we want, yes? From now on, in the presence of others or in the general area of others, you will refer to me as Jessie. I don't want mine or your cover to be blown. Whenever I need to give you important info, I will text you a code which we will agree upon later. I will let you decide upon which nights we train and an excuse to let you leave…" she trails off and rummages around her desk, "Oh! And, a few colleagues and I came up with an exercise routine for you. If possible, we would like you to train at your full size, but if it isn't, then expect fewer results than would normally come of it. Then, I shall bid you adieu. I'll text you later." She clicks the phone off and turns to Camel.
"You think he'll comply?" she asks worriedly. When she doesn't receive and answer, she sighs, "He will. He knows what the possible cost could be."
