The shrunken Shinichi pasted a broad smile on his face as he walked back into the office room. As the reunion and shock had passed, the people inside had more or less returned to routine. Ran was cooking dinner.

"Conan!" she said happily, "Don't stay up too late tonight. You have school tomorrow."

She then turned away again, leaving the so-called Conan to ponder how exactly he had forgotten about school. He needed to thank his captors for factoring in that aspect. He walked to sit on the couch next to Hattori with a huff. Wait, didn't he have school too?

Kogoro screamed at the TV, yelling something about "Yoko!" and "Trouble!" in a distressed voice. His heartache was so apparent that even Hattori had to ask the matter. The saddened detective rewound the TV and turned it towards the crowd.

A news anchor appears on the screen and began speaking stoically, "Earlier today, this scene played out in front of a store near Okino Yoko's new place of business. After leaving her building, she was taken by a black van with a covered license. It is requested that anyone and everyone keep their eyes peeled for any clues regarding the matter. More at 10…"

Kogoro, at this point, was sobbing uncontrollably. The two teen detectives in the room shared a glance before glancing back at the paused screen. The van was utterly nondescript and held no clues towards finding anything. There was nothing they could do at this either way. A phone chimed, and Hattori glances downward.

"Dang it! My dad foun' out I was here. I need ta get back." the boy begrudgingly admits, "I need ta go ta school anyway." With that, he ruffled the smaller boy's hair and quickly left.

Shinichi clutched his messed up hair and sighed contentedly. While he enjoyed having Hattori around, the extra person would make hiding a new secret all the more difficult.

Hours passed, and the shrunken detective found himself lying in bed, excruciatingly awake. His phone blinked to life beside him. On its screen read the name of his totally legal 'friend,' Jessie. He had set the notifications to where you could only read them if in the app, but his laziness resented him at the moment. With great effort, he threw his arm over to the bright light and opened it. Her message was simple, "You hear about Okino Yoko, Cool guy?"

Shinichi frowned at the nickname and texted back a quick affirmative. He sighed yet again, knowing that he most likely wouldn't fall asleep anytime soon.

"Good, can you talk?" the phone blinked.

He almost sent a question mark before another text came through, "I normally wouldn't ask, but her case gave me an idea too confidential to type."

The teen called her after informing her that he would have to be quiet in his home.

"Hey! So, getting straight to the point, I was wondering if you'd consider shadowing the assigned agent? It's soon, but I assume you've experienced enough at this point. Think of it as a test of your existing abilities." she paused a moment before continuing, "Oh! Don't worry; you won't be required to harm anyone or do anything too illegal…yet."

"I assume I'm not getting much of a choice, dictator," he replied, half-joking.

She squawked at the name and answered, "I guess if that's the way you want to think about it. We have scheduled everything at night and during the weekend to allow you the best chance to leave."

The boy supposed she wanted a sort of thank you for that, but he wasn't in the giving mood.

A small silence passed as both parties decided on their next words. Finally, Shinichi spoke again, "I'll accept. You say I won't have to hurt anyone, and I don't have the energy to argue against the inevitable at the moment," he thought briefly, "By the way, send me the details over text. Because of my previous profession's dangers, I already have the best security. You don't need to worry." He hoped that he wouldn't have to talk to her more than necessary. His shock had not entirely worn off, and he currently wanted to deny her existence.

The teen swore he could hear he smile over the phone. She replied, "Oh, that wasn't the reason! We just hadn't acquired your 'work phone' yet. This mission was also the opportunity to give it to you." She continued, "And, because I know you have school tomorrow, I'll leave you be. The information I send until you receive your phone will be cryptic. Please call if you have any questions. Bye!"

The phone clicked abruptly. Shinichi silently reprimanded her for leaving so suddenly. He decided that thinking about it tonight would be too much effort. Exhaustion knocked him out immediately.
