The sun rose on the fateful Saturday. Shinichi blinked for a moment and began his regular daily routine. At this point, he had his internal alarm set at a firm at 5 am every morning. This time allowed him to go about his morning without worrying about the other inhabitants. On top of the time, Kogoro's snoring drowned out any noise he possibly made. His phone blinked and showed a familiar fake name. Her message was simple. A time, written as the result of his previous question. 2200.
The time surprised the teen slightly, but given the profession, this was somewhat expected. Strangely dying of anticipation, he pondered his ability to wait until then. Without the chance to talk with anyone about it, this secret was killing him. He didn't want to talk to his dictator-like Boss, but he was low on options. After briefly entertaining the idea of letting Hattori know, Shinichi was forced to reconsider his loyalties. Hattori had been his friend for ages; he knew most things about him. It was almost impossible to keep another aspect of himself kept hidden. Despite his slight crisis, he decided, no, he would not involve his best friend in something most assuredly dangerous. He wasn't changing loyalties, only thinking of the best for his loved ones.
The boy jumped at the slight knock on his door. Almost answering, he stopped himself and grabbed the bowtie from his pile of clothes, "Hello?" he said once setting the dial correctly.
Ran's voice rang out from the other side, "Good morning! I just wanted to let you know that I am going summer shopping with Sonoko." she sounded sad, "I'm sorry I can't greet your mother or see you off. Do you want to say goodbye now?"
Shinichi panicked slightly and asked her to wait while gathering his clothes and preparing himself for the pain. After situating, he rushed out of the door and into a goodbye hug from his temporary caretaker. They exchanged goodbyes, and he found himself bored on the coach while Kogoro screamed at the TV. He was losing money on something again.
Ran had called around 6 pm and told him that she would be staying with Sonoko that night. The screaming in the background was something about "KID." He wondered how he had missed a heist note but wasn't too worried. Of course, until he heard the location. The Blood Moon café held the Bloody Sapphire. Just his luck. He tried to look on the bright side as he rode his skateboard to the rendezvous. Perhaps the crowd would better hide their dealings…or it could completely ruin everything. He wasn't quite sure how criminals thought yet and could only hope that their targets were still planning to infiltrate.
He prided himself on the fact that he had brought a black outfit to change into. Still a child, and not entirely sure whether or not he was supposed to be, he brought an identical change of clothes in his other size. Agent Allium spotted him from afar and approached. After confirming his identity, he was given a run-down.
"Hey! I'm Agent Allium, but please call me Ally. Tonight will be fun, I promise. We will blend into this crowd and let ourselves move through it naturally-oh, and you can stay a child. Our targets are these two." The black-clad women offered him two photos. One photo held a smaller woman with light brown hair down to her shoulders. Her piercing black eyes did little to hide the nasty scar running from her left temple to her nose. The photo was an induction shot, and her face held a snarl towards the viewer.
Other than the scar, her face was average at best; no other defining features. The other photo showed a bald man from afar. Shinichi was informed that he was her own hired underling and had no official ties to the woman's organization. He had a rather strong build/jaw and, while having no scars, his nose had obviously been broken multiple times. The photo was too blurry to make out any other features.
"Why are we watching them?" The detective asked curiously
"These two have been given the assignment to kill an important figure to allow the woman a promotion. We are here to gather simple info like voice, better pictures, and small habits so that we can send the ground workers out better prepared." Ally paused and smiled down at him, "Also! I heard that you will one day be a ground worker yourself. Who are you to get such a privilege?" she finished half-jokingly.
Shinichi wanted to answer because he had detected that bit of suspicion in her voice, but he had had that question himself and, therefore, no answer, "Trust me, I know just as much as you do about my position I'm sure."
Her smile twisted into a weirdly blank look as she glanced over her shoulder.
"That man is acting weirdly, but he doesn't match our descriptions. Strange…" She trailed off and promptly forgot about her small bout of perceptiveness.
The teen turned around from curiosity and locked eyes with his older doppelganger. He sighed and turned back, hoping that he either didn't recognize him or was too tied up in the heist to bother. Lady luck apparently loved him cause he was completely and utterly wrong.
"Hey, little detective…"
