"Hey, little detective…"
Shinichi almost facepalmed at that moment, but the card gun held against his head prevented him from moving.
"You…you are the one from earlier. I suggest you put down that projectile weapon." Ally spoke soon after. The detective watched as the nice lady's face morphed from general curiosity to absolute bloodlust. He shivered slightly himself, and it wasn't even directed at him.
He could feel the thief stiffen behind him and heard him whisper, "Wow, you found yourself some scary friends. I'll, uh, leave." The unsuspecting teen drew himself out of the squat and muttered a quick apology to the scary women before walking calmly, or as calmly as possible, into the crowd.
Ally's face drifted down to Shinichi after the glare and asked, "Who was that?"
"No one you need to worry about. He's just a…friend. I would expect him here." He answered with an abbreviated tone.
"It's KID," she replied matter-of-factly and shocked the detective, "It's obvious. He's been acting strangely since the beginning. He was holding a card gun, and he rose with practiced grace. These deductions are the reason I spotted you quickly. You have an air of nervousness around you."
He would never doubt her area of expertise again, as if he ever had. Besides, she was Shinichi's best protection, so he would hope she was good. They gathered themselves again and traversed the crowd over to a lamppost across the street. Usually, Ally had said, they would undergo more stealth measures, but this crowd was thick enough to hide most. They stood there for a moment, watching for any suspicious people or movement. While the detective wasn't entirely sure what he was looking for, he had enough experience to be helpful.
Once spotting a suspicious van, they moved to situate themselves at a higher vantage point. Across the street from the corner broadcast building stood an abandoned hotel. They were able to move past the crowd and break inside.
On the roof, they set up a small watch station complete with binoculars, a small pistol for emergencies, and a camera. Shinichi knelt to his knees to get a clear view of the building. He was too short to sit or lie down. Ally sat beside him, binoculars trained on the conspicuous van. They watched the two people, exactly who they were looking for, walk out.
The detective paused, "No way was it that easy!" he said in shock, "This isn't a movie."
"Well, normally, you would be right, but this organization is notoriously meticulous and terrible at information security. For all we know, our info workers could have been listening in on their conversations. You never know." Ally replied, nonplussed.
The two continued to watch as the suspects ran inside, and the crowd grew in fervor.
Shinichi thought for a moment, "Wait, what could they possibly want in an empty building? Information?" he asked.
Ally smiled briefly, "They want her schedule. They assume it's in her dressing room or another such room. They're wrong." she replied, clipping the end of each sentence. She turned to her bag and pulled out a small TV screen. It was connected to the surveillance inside.
Once the screen powered on, it immediately cut to the scene of the two criminals bickering at each other. Ally began typing quick notes on a computer she had also materialized out of her bag. The assassin/detective felt like he was doing nothing, so he quickly grabbed a notepad and jotted down information about the van and their entry habits.
After a few minutes of this, Shinichi felt Ally jump beside him, "Shoot!" she exclaimed, rushing to her feet. She stooped to her bag yet again and pulled out a grappling hook. The boy was convinced that the bag was magic now.
"Boy, they've planted unknown devices. I'm going to go inside and collect them. Don't follow me inside, but I'll need you to follow me as a lookout, yea?" Ally recounted the steps fluidly.
He nodded, and Ally shot the hook. She grabbed him and made it to the next roof. The crowd, watching the show in front of them, was none the wiser.
She sat him down and scaled down the building. Left with the task of picking the roof lock for her escape, he rummaged through the bag to find tools. Of course, just as she had left, he heard screaming from a certain detective going after KID. He listened for a moment before noticing that the sound got farther away. Sighing with relief, he continued. That was before he realized that he was an idiot, and there was no way they were following the real thief.
"Whatcha doin'?"
