Back at the house, Hattori was woken by a light shining from a strange phone he had never seen. The screen shone with a constant light, never seeming to shut off. He grumbled and reached up to stop it. Before that, though, his curiosity overcame him, and he glanced at the message. Coordinates were written before the words were cut off. As he didn't know the password, he couldn't read the rest. From Jessie, huh?

Only then did the sleepy detective notice that Shinichi was missing. He waited a few moments before checking around the house. His thoughts traveled back to the strange phone and coordinates. What was his friend hiding?

Held awake by worry and adrenaline, Hattori headed for the area specified by the phone.

As he arrived, he heard faint voices around the corner. Sneaking closer, he started to recognize one as Shinichi. He began to pick up on the words as he listened to an unfamiliar voice shakily speak. He peeked around the corner and had to stop himself from crying out as he witnessed his best friend holding a gun directly to another human. As well, his face was downright disturbing, holding a maniacal smile and mirthful eyes.

The situation only worsened as Shinichi spoke. He was playful but absolutely devoid of remorse. Then, a shot. Hattori was thankful that the sound muffled his slight scream as he witnessed his friend, once thought of as a goody-two-shoes detective, kill someone without even an ounce of hesitation. Shinichi just stared blankly.

A clapping arose from the dark corner, and both teens turned toward it. Only now did Hattori wonder why his friend was full-sized.

"Good job Agent Valerian. Ready for anything, quite appropriate in my opinion." the voice spoke, "I'm impressed by your display, I honestly thought it would be harder for you." she chuckled. She stayed in the dark just so much that Hattori couldn't see her face.

"Boss…" Shinichi spoke simply and without emotion, "I hate to admit anything before I have the chance to think through it, but It was morbidly fun. Does that make me a bad person?" He was still in shock, glancing back at his handiwork.

"No, it doesn't. This is good, I promise." she sounded like a cult-leader so she stopped short, "By the way, I'm not sure if you noticed, but we have a friend. Why don't you come out?"

Hattori was shocked she had spotted him, and he was afraid of what would happen if he disobeyed. Despite not quite trusting him at the moment, he subconsciously drifted towards his friend's side.

At his approach, Shinichi only widened his eyes before looking down in shame. He then cursed loudly and berated himself for not hiding the phone in his effort to leave.

"I'll say, Valerian, you sure have a knack for bringing friends along, hmm? You thought I didn't know about him?" she spoke scarily.

Shinichi drew in a sharp breath and kept his gaze averted.

Hattori wasn't entirely sure what was going on. He had just witnessed his friend kill a man without remorse only to cower at the presence of his Boss.

"I'm sorry. I swear both instances were accidents." Shinichi said quickly; he brought his gaze to Jodie's as he gained confidence, "Besides, you told me I couldn't tell anyone. I haven't. The two people who have found out were people I trust with my life, and I won't allow you to hurt them." He was adamant.

Jodie sighed and smiled, or at least it sounded as if she had, "Don't worry, as long as this doesn't happen again we're fine. However, the people who have found out will have to be sworn to secrecy with an even tighter lease than yourself. I don't have the ability to protect people outside of my underlings." She walked out to reveal herself.

Hattori gasped. 'She was an FBI member, right?' he thought.

"I have one possible solution. Agent Valerian, you will be assigned as the bodyguard of both Kuroba Kaito and Hattori Heiji. This way, I can protect them, however indirectly, and you don't have to worry about backlash." She locked eyes with Shinichi, "Do you accept?"

A smile beginning to form, the assassin agreed happily. He may still be finding himself, but a constant he could count on was his caring friends. That sounded cheesy, but he couldn't articulate himself better at the moment.

"I'll handle the paperwork. Val, call the clean-up crew, and I'll get the signature from your friend." She said. This recruit was turning out to be much more trouble than she had asked for.
