The others were obviously running on their last sliver of patience. Shinichi had been hiding almost everything from them recently, and the older two seemed betrayed.

He finally gathered his thoughts and began an explanation. It included a lengthened version of his earlier excuse. Of course, he stated that his little excursion and injury had been a result of admitted negligence and the lack of his partner. With as many believable details as possible, he recounted the events from last night.

The kids were completely gullible and thought his experience had been awesome, but the last two seemed only slightly convinced. Granted, it was much better than their earlier betrayed glares.

Haibara asked first, "Why didn't you ask for help? It would make sense for them to have a gun, and you're only a child with nothing offensive at their disposal."

The boy's eyes widened for a moment before he realized that he had forgotten to mention his own gun. He was relieved that he had left that little tidbit out, "I know, I was tired and reckless. But, I'm alive aren't I?" he added, knowing it would get a negative response. His only goal right now was to give them a base to begin and continue trusting him.

Thankfully, the conversation devolved quickly into a playful back and forth between the caring adults and the laughing children.

Haibara seemed to become tired of the constant distrust, and she began to slowly transition to normal. While she was now worried about his potential injuries from her previous profession, the scientist forgot about anything other than that, meaning that his illegal dealings could pass under the radar. He hoped that he could soon defeat the organization and relieve her stress.

Hattori picked him up as soon as he walked through the door to the office. The boy almost yelped in pain, but he reared it in as the other seemed very happy to see him again. Without letting him go, the detective sat on the couch and put the assassin in his lap. Shinichi struggled but eventually resigned to his fate. Soon the other housemates walked into the room and greeted him.

"Hey, Conan! Dad got a new case yesterday. This new ski park is complaining about some scary people." Ran greeted him with a new case. Normally, this would be routine for him, but he was relieved to have some normalcy after his weekend.

Kogoro prattled on about his greatness and how it was only natural that he was chosen for such a job. Finally, everyone was able to escape for sleep.

Walking into the shared room, Hattori bombarded him with questions. Apparently, the professor had told them all about what happened. Thankfully, he left out the bullet wound.

"Hattori…I think I finally realized what this job entails." He hadn't thought much about it before, but now that he had the chance to talk about it, he reeled. He could have easily died that day.

As if on cue, the phone rang. Kaito's voice rang through the speakers.

"Hey, Shinichi. You back from your trip now?" he asked innocently enough.

Despite himself, Shinichi curled on the bed and tried to prevent a tear from escaping.

"Guys…I almost died. I thought I could handle this, but the repercussions are staggering. When I was injured as a detective, it was for a sense of justice. Now I only feel guilty. My aggressions towards the other party make me in part responsible for my own injury, and I can't act like it's an injustice and brush it off. I come with killing force, they come back with the same." he began to rant on the verge of crying.

Hattori tried to hug him as some consolation, but this time he allowed himself to cry out in pain. The pain paired with his emotions were overwhelming. He began to cry, and he hated himself for it. He was crying in front of two people who most likely encountered the same stress he was feeling periodically. In fact, one was a wanted thief known around the world.

Both teens were silent as they listened. Contrary to Shinichi's belief, they didn't feel pity, only worry.

"Are ya hurt?" Hattori spoke quietly. Both him and the thief picked up on the choked sob that followed.

"I…I was shot," he spoke in a shaky voice and drew in a sharp, pained breath. Willing himself to stop crying, he began to take off his shirt again.

The others were shocked. Hattori could only gasp as his friend revealed a deep red bandage. It was in better condition than earlier, but he wasn't completely healed. It hurt inside and out.

Hattori took a short time to create a video conference with Kaito, and they both winced as they saw the stitched black wound underneath the bandages.

"Thankfully, Agent Iris was nearby to help me, so I didn't lose too much blood. I need to change it anyway." Shinichi spoke as he grabbed the new wraps in his pocket.

The detective moved forward to help him and all three spoke in hushed voices until Kaito finally had to leave.

Comforting him, the older boy continued to speak calmly with the assassin. When it was time to sleep, he made sure to stay farther away so he didn't injure the younger.
