Hehe uh, chapter 2 time.
I don't have much to say, just hope that you find this amusing :,)
ALSO: thanks to the anonymous reviewer! Really made my day to see that someone likes the rewrite attempt, and makes me even more motivated :) glad you're interested and I hope you enjoy where the story goes.
Falling was a bit of an understatement it would appear.
The two, still holding each other's respective arms, although tighter than before, fell onward towards what seemed like a dark pit with no end.
Except it did have an end, and soon they were squinting when a bright light suddenly enveloped them like daylight. And then came the ground, or rather, then came the two of them hurtling at the ground instead.
It would have been nice to have something to glide them down safely, but instead all that threatened was for their stuff to go careening off towards the ground without them. Again in the younger Link's case. This time, however, some lovely trees caught them instead of the grass, but the impact was painless. Well, the impact against the tree was painless, however, the impact to the ground from the tree was indeed painful.
It only managed to knock the wind out of the two, but other than that everything was intact and all of their stuff was still with them.
The older one sat up first, almost immediately. "Mm, just like Fyre's cannon." Not quite sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, just that it shared a striking resemblance. Speaking of striking resemblance, in this case in terms of scent... He quickly strangled himself upright and checked on the younger boy who shared his name to see if he was alright. The younger one only groaned in response, but he was fine. Satiated, he walked to the edge of the hill that they seemed to have landed on, to look out where they had ended up. This certainly wasn't Castle Town. At least.
After a moment's rest, the downed boy eventually lifted himself up and joined the other in surveying where the hell they happened to be. "Now I doubly don't know where I am." He scratched his hatless hair, glad at least that he had all of his stuff with him from the get-go this time. The two were now standing next to each other with a dramatic height difference, staring in the distance at a bustling town with a large and lone structure in the middle. They were simply a field away from it, but it was a pretty sight to view from this distance. The sky almost painted a light purple behind it, the bright of day to their backs.
"So you say this happened to you already today? Or that maybe you're not from Hyrule?" Tall Link asked calmly as if he had been preparing what to say in his head for a bit before saying it. Which he totally did. He wasn't expecting what he got in response, however.
"What!? No, no I am from Hyrule, but it did happen earlier, yeah! Where were we both earlier anyway? It was about as recognizable as this place..."
Not far from them came a series of loud noises in the form of rustling. The brunt of it was rustling in the bushes some distance behind them. The itch to fight whatever monster it probably was was not quite palpable enough to investigate, so the younger one began dragging the older one down the hill and towards the town to which he didn't refuse.
"Uh, we were in Hyrule, what...wait." He breathed out, running after the younger Link he was trying to engage in conversation with. "Hold on,"
It didn't take long to reach the outer gate of the small village and maneuver around until they found one of the entrances. They slipped by what looked like a guard wearing a soldier's armor who gave them a somewhat rude side-eye look. The taller Link smiled and lifted his hands up to gesture to his sword and then the younger boy with him, which did the trick. The soldier nodded and his gaze calmed, which was accompanied by a wave of approval and a gesture guiding them forward. "Take care and relax in our town!" the unknown man called after them, to which the two could only glance back and continue into the town.
As they found a pleasant place to stand, they briefly talked about the Hero of Twilight's wolf ability, and about what the Hero of the Minish was capable of. Until they found the structure they had seen from the field and approached it.
"So, other Link, did you figure something out? Earlier you sounded like you have something on where we are?!" The younger Link tugged on the other's arms and stared at him wide-eyed.
"Oh no, but," He blinked back and knelt down to better talk to the shorter boy, "I did get several things though actually...I think?" He scratched his neck awkwardly and continued. "Midna's seems to be missing now as well, so we can't ask her anything. Not that she'd know this any better uh, but perhaps we're related? You smell too similar to me...like a sibling almost." He sounded confused, but certain in what he had voiced. "Which...well, I don't know."
In response, the younger Link let go of the older boy's arm and took a slight stumbly step backward. He nearly bumped into an unknown townsman, who made a tch sound at the boy and continued on their way. "Midna's gone now too? Are you sure?" He nodded sadly, his shadow was empty, the Twili nowhere to be found. The whole related issue though...probably the more accessible plot point to answer, then trying to find a lost friend when you yourself don't know where the Hell you are. "Oh! Maybe she's with Ezlo."
The older one doubted it, but he was in the company of a child about 6 years younger, so he thought it better to placate by changing the subject and leaving it open. He usually did that with the children of his hometown in Ordon...not wanting to be too easy on them, but also not wanting to be too harsh. One kid in particular, Talo, practically asked for harsh reactions, though…
"Perhaps. But, I might have a theory?" They heard what could only be a child start shouting near them, trying to get someone's attention with no avail. The two were too focused on their reverie. The older Link lifted himself up again to stand straight and leaned his weight onto one leg with a hand on his chin in thought. "You see, I was an orphan myself, taken in by my kind surrogate father from Ordon. I don't really have more than a few vague memories from the time before that… Well, I don't know, maybe this is a bit suspicious?" The shouts were getting closer to the two of them standing relatively close to the large structure in the center of the town. It seemed now that they were closer that it was an ornate but small clock tower.
The smaller Link sighed pensively and maneuvered to the smooth bricked wall of the clock tower and leaned against it. "You think we're related? What about the Hyrule issue though…? Darn it! This is kinda confusing!" He made a slightly dramatic hand movement for emphasis.
The shouts for attention suddenly turned into alarming calls of surprise, and lots and lots and lots and lots of annoying barks could be heard as well. Practically over the slightly pathetic sounds of alarm and pleading. The two stopped and whipped around to peek over the corner of the wall almost comically. The taller of the two looked from directly above the smaller one, both gripping the cornerstone until their eyes fell on a small white dog, a pool of water, and a deku scrub with a comically large green scarf around its neck. The taller Link nearly fell on the other, who swiftly pulled out from underneath and ran at the precarious duo.
The bigger one quickly picked himself off of the ground in a scramble and ran as well to help the poor plant boy. The dog, as it would seem, did not like deku scrubs. Not in the slightest. "Woah hey there doggy! Calm down!" The younger Link called towards the dog, but the older swooped in and quickly picked up the small white dog into his arms before she could actually attack the deku kid. The teen was a dog person after all, the younger one didn't have to be a scholar to remember that earlier in the day his companion had been a canine himself. Let the wolf deal with calming the dog down, yeah.
The dog, however, seemed to display something rather vulgar to the teen, so he responded to her with things like "Woah, that's not very nice...hey! Calm the heck down you tiny little- oh that's it, you need a time-out!" And gently tossed the small dog into the pool of water surrounding and gave her a death look. She barked but relented and ran away after shaking herself dry.
The deku boy was lying on the ground when the younger of the two Links approached him and urged him to sit up with an outstretched hand. The kid did sit up to rest on his scarf, but did not accept the extended hand and instead stared at him, and the scene of the older teen and the dog playing behind the hand. This lasted for a bit until the last of this unlikely trio joined them after dealing with the dog. The two were standing over the deku boy, who then stood up finally and sighed. "Uh, oh, gosh thank you for getting rid of the dog for me. I always forget she doesn't care much for plants…" The kid looked down with what could only be contemplation...it was kind of hard to read the expressions of the deku people…
The kid then fiddled with his green scarf with one of his hands and extended the other one out in greeting. "I'm sorry I didn't take your hand earlier," He looked right at the younger Link, "I guess I was more surprised by your appearances than I thought. I wanted to talk to you two…I uh followed you guys from that bush in Termina Field, but you two fled when I tried to talk at first." His hand was still awkwardly outstretched so he sighed and lowered it. "Not that I blame you, there's all sorts of creatures out there, and even a deku scrub would be suspicious, I guess. Not all of them are friendly outside of the swamp...or in it but whatever. You two look lost anyway, I might as well answer some questions before I bombard you with mine." He glanced around and behind himself, and motioned something to come to him from off behind a crate. A small yellow fairy suddenly floated up from her hiding spot and flew into the deku boy's face and bounced up and down through the air. With it came a ringing sound distinct to certain types of fairies, the hero of Twilight noted.
The fairy rung in awe. "Wow Link, you were right, for once! These two are suspicious...and they look just like you! Let's pry them!" She didn't seem like the nicest fairy… "Though too bad about that dog again!" She laughed. No, she cackled.
"Thanks, Tatl, that's not exactly friendly, but…" He went to continue but got his gaze caught on the two of his companions' faces. They were agape and aghast, worse than before. Was it something they said? "Uh...okay um, lets uh talk. Yes, let's talk." The Deku boy, who's name was apparently also Link stammered. His fairy, named Tatl as it would seem, flew off to a small staircase off in the corner of the town where there was not one civilian loitering around. That way they would be alone.
"So what's first?" Tatl trilled.
The hero of Twilight placed a hand on the Hero of the Minish's shoulder to quiet his inevitable shout. "Alright, I'm just gonna get it out there...Where are we? And I should probably mention that the two of our names are also Link...so uh-" He was ultimately interrupted by the 12-year-old Link who very clearly did indeed want to shout.
"This is confusing! I've ended up in two places I don't know, and met two other people named Link! And one of them is a plant…" He exclaimed, whispering the last part. "What's next...!?" He sat down cross-legged on the cobblestone with a huff, at least now at eye level with the scrub.
"Two more Links, huh? Why not?" The deku boy laughed heartily and waved his hand. "We're in Termina right now, but...confusing is an understatement! I can raise you two-fold, and explain myself. One, I've been dealing with time travel a lot more than usual lately, because if I don't get everything done in 3 days, the moon," he gestured a small wooden hand towards the part of the sky the duo had seemingly neglected, "will come crashing down and destroy everything."
The hero of Twilight cocked his head to the side and his mouth was slung open in surprise, and then horror set in, with his features darkening. The other, however, simply looked away rather fast and covered his face. "I don't know how we didn't notice that before, but I swear to the Goddess herself, I'm both glad I didn't, and wish I hadn't." He shook his head and stared at the deku scrub with dramatically outstretched arms. "Why does it have a face?!"
He blinked a couple of times, his mouth unable to open and close in stammering due to being a deku scrub, but he would no doubt be doing so. "I, uh don't know. I mean, I'm not that smart and I haven't given too much thought to it, but, it was probably part of the Skull Kid's plan. Creep everyone out before he let Majora's Mask annihilate everyone. Can't say it isn't working." He shrugged, used to being stared at by the freakishly angry moon.
The hero of the Minish sighed but nodded anyway. He supposed that made sense...even though it didn't. The hero of Twilight, however, preferring to not dwell on the subject and shrugged. He then motioned for the Deku Link to continue.
He winked at his fairy, Tatl, and proceeded. "Oh, and two, I'm...not really a deku scrub, I'm the Hero of Time! My masks have been a bit screwy lately, so I guess I get some horn practice in too while I'm at it. " He chuckled, and instead of letting doubt settle in, he pulled out a set of brass horns that it seemed only deku scrubs could use out of nowhere and began to play them. It was a simple tune, but a very calming one that almost felt like it could soothe an ailed soul. Which...was probably the point.
When the short tune was over, the two mentally weary heroes felt refreshed and opened their eyes to see the deku scrub grab at his face with two hands. He pulled off a mask that the two didn't know was there with a flash of purple light. The mask was the face of the deku scrub that was previously standing before them, and it clattered to the ground at the feet of a young Hylian boy who looked to be 14 or so. He surprisingly looked similar to his deku form complete with the same colored hair although longer and well, not made of leaves. He wore a similar outfit of a green tunic and his still comically large darker green scarf. He scooped up the mask to put it away, and once he did so, he sat down similar to the Hero of the Minish and smiled at the two of them. Tatl rested on his shoulder.
The Hero of Twilight stammered, obviously not surprised at the transformation any more than the Hero of the Minish was after seeing two strange occurrences like that in one day, not mentioning his own quirk with Ezlo... (though, the fact that they weren't surprised did surprise the deku scrub-turned Hylian). "D-did you say the 'Hero of Time'?! I mean, the Hero of Time?" The oldest blurted out. "I've read all about him, I trained with his spirit and learned some, well, pretty smart techniques. I even found out from both himself and from the Light Spirits themselves about how I'm supposedly his descendant...Or so I'm led to believe. You...uh, don't look anything like him."
"Uh….uh….In a bad way?" The supposed Hero of Time questioned with a hand over his chest. His voice was a bit deeper and less...plant-like (if that was a term?) than before. "Wait…" He seemed to have actually processed what the other hero said. "Hmm, ancestry, huh? Well, I did want to talk to you about...probably this? You guys struck me odd...weird considering this place. Tatl-" The Hero of Time was ultimately cut off by his fairy.
She rang in annoyance, "Yeah, no, this whole three of you being named Link thing is kinda annoying," Even though she had yet to really talk to either of the other two, the thought of it was rather irritating. "you boys need nicknames, or I'm gonna hecking lose it." she steamed.
