Pit's heart sunk to the bottom of his chest. Tears were already trickling down his face. The blue hues in his eye turned a bit gray.

Not only was Pit crying but so was Sora. His spikes on the side of his head were drooping slightly. Tears were also going down his cheeks.

Galeem was cruel, to say the least. Taking their friends away and making them feel useless. It's what the lord of light strived for. It breaks their hearts to see a beloved friend get caught by Galeem's army of puppets.

So much so, they needed to take a breather. They both sat in their dorm on their bed together. Wearing comfortable clothes to sleep in. Staring at each other's pained eyes. They felt so useless now. All they wanted to do was finish their mission, but it only left with somebody being sacrificed to save the rest.

Incineroar braved through to stop the puppets from getting to the angel and the wielder. It broke their hearts that they were forced to leave Incineroar behind. For the giant wrestler's inevitable fate, the two survivors mourned at his capture.

This wasn't the first time Pit felt this way. To feel everything crumble in his hands and losing somebody you love. Reliving the feelings always hurt the angel. It just makes him flashback to the terrible past he had. Meanwhile, Sora was sniffling and rubbing his eyes constantly. Losing somebody hurts so much. He feels pathetic and he realizes that if this keeps up then he won't go on.

The keyblade wielder sobs softly and crawls over to Pit. His head presses against the angel's chest - wishing to listen to his heartbeat. Pit seemed to notice and wiped his own tears. Then, he wordlessly laid down and let Sora lay down in between his legs. His ear pressed against his chest. White wings laid over the bed; fully relaxed. Purest of heartbeats vibrated in the wielder's ear. Already familiar with the loving feeling. His sobs became silent as he continued to listen.

Pit blushed slightly and the tears stopped building up. Dry tears laid on his cheeks. Feeling his lover's warm body against him also made him feel a familiar feeling. Feeling genuine love like Sora. He reaches down and begins to comb his hair with his fingers. Sora immediately felt comfortable. It was another soothing feeling to the teenager. Letting him know that his boyfriend loves him just as much as he did.

There was silence in the room for a few minutes. Both of them taking in each other's comfort and warmth. There was a moment where Pit wrapped his legs around Sora's waist but nothing else between the two.

They both knew they were in pain after today's mission. They knew they needed rest. Both even would agree they deserve to take a nap. Pit's eyes were first to flutter close due to exhaustion. Sora followed suit after a few moments. The two lovers began to drift off to sleep. Hoping that tomorrow was a better day for them. Even if it seemed impossible.

There was beeping coming from Pit and Sora's dorm room. The room was dark but the only thing lighting it up was a computer on their desk and an alarm clock. Speaking of which, the alarm clock was making all those beeping noises while flashing green numbers on its digital screen.

The beeping rang out in the room. Practically begging for somebody to turn it off.

Stirring in his sleep, Sora was the first to - technically - wake up. The beating heart pressed against his ear wasn't muffling the beeping at all. In fact, the heart sounded quite relaxed and slowed compared to the annoying, repetitive virtual bleeps.

Eyes fluttered open. Yet, stayed half-lidded to show exhaustion. Ocean eyes slowly glazed over to the flashing green numbers. Seeing it was five in the morning. The keyblade wielder grumbled and remembered the cursed schedule him and Pit were forced on. He rolled his eyes to himself.

Maybe he should stop it and let them both sleep in. It seems like a good idea after… yesterday.

In lazy desperation, he reaches his leg out near the alarm clock. Being very careful not to just kick it over the nightstand. That was too expensive to afford anyway. His foot slowly maneuvers over to the alarm and presses the 'stop' button perfectly. The flashing numbers stopped blinking and stood still. Going back to counting the seconds.

A sleepy smirk appeared on Sora's lips. Mentally, he was patting himself on the back. Feeling somewhat proud of what he did.

Eyes shifted back up to see Pit still sleeping soundly. Only the computer screen light revealed his sleeping face in the darkness. It did make Sora smile stupidly. He looked so in peace. Like nothing bad ever happened. A warm feeling washed over his own heart. Pit, sleeping ever so peacefully, makes his heart feel complete. But he knew that wasn't true to the extent. They weren't at peace from yesterday's incident. Mostly tensed and saddened. Nonetheless, he took the moment in. Adoring his lover's serene emotion.

While admiring his cute face, he did notice that Pit's leg was wrapped around Sora's waist while he was sleeping. It must have been when they were both snuggling. Sora can pretty much admit that it was a weird position.

The keyblade wielder mentally shakes the thought away. It was best to continue sleeping till they were both ready to wake up anyway.

Just as he planned to, he presses his ear back to Pit's heartbeat. Hearing the relaxed lullaby from within the angel. Almost like a spell, Sora's eyes instantly became heavy. He accepts this and slowly closes them - drifting back into a deep slumber. Letting his dreams whisk him away; maybe see Pit along the way.

Thirty minutes later, there was another beeping sound. It too rang out in the couple's room. Sora quickly stirred awake at the sound. Eyes flutter open and he quickly glances at the alarm clock. Suspecting that it was creating the beeping noises. Alas, it wasn't true. The green numbers were frozen still and showed that thirty minutes had passed since he last woke up.

Eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion. His head slowly rises from Pit's chest to look where the possible sound was coming from. Eyes then landed on the computer and realized that an envelope icon was blinking on the screen.

Sora grumbled a small, "Huh?"

Unexpectedly, there was a groan from Pit. The loud beeping was disturbing his slumber. Cornflower blue hues open and began searching for the sound. Sora's eyes widen slightly. Shocked that Pit was already awake at the sound.

"What's going onnnn..?" Pit murmured and rubbed his eyes. He seemed quite confused at all the noise.

"It's the computer making that noise," Sora murmured back to his boyfriend. Sleepy eyes squinting slightly.

Pit's wing flicked and he looked over at the computer. He also squinted at the screen and noticed an envelope icon was blinking on the screen. The angel slowly sat up - making Sora get off him. They both stare at the screen; thinking about what it was about.

"It's just a message, it must be important if it woke us up.." Pit informed. He slides off the bed. Sora followed suit - curious to see what the message was about. Pit stumbled slightly when getting off the bed. The keyblade wielder grabs his boyfriend's arm and pulls him close in case he did collapse on the ground.

The angel murmured a quick 'thank you' before going over to the computer with Sora holding his arm. Pit slides onto the office chair and grabs the computer mouse. Letting it glide across the desk till the cursor on the screen clicks the icon.

The icon opened up to reveal a message by Fox. There was a moment where Pit looked around his desk and found his pair of white-framed glasses. He reached over and grabbed it. Putting them on and squinting at the screen.

"Looks like there's going to be a meeting for us." Sora yawned. Already scanned through the message for Pit.

"Huh? What for? Because we completely messed up yesterday?!" Pit's wings fluffed up and loose feathers already scattered on the floor by the desk.

Sora simply shakes his head and pats his boyfriend's back. "Pit, it just says that they will be discussing our schedule."

"...So it is about us messing up."

"No, Pit." Sora pinches the bridge of his nose. "It's not that. You gotta stop blaming yourself." Sad, exhausted eyes gazed over at his lover's.

Pit looks up at him, "It's not like you blame yourself like yesterday either…"

Right when Sora was about to counter that, he realized that he did have a point. Eyes soften at his words. He had a point. He did blame himself that Incineroar was taken away. When it wasn't even either of their faults. It was the fire dark type Pokémon decision and accepted his fate to save the two of them.

The angel sighed, "I-I'm sorry.. that was uncalled for. But your right. There isn't a point in blaming ourselves. We… we couldn't control what Incineroar wanted." Pit closed his eyes and took in that fact. Letting the past sink in and let it replay in his head. Sora stared at Pit. Still having those sad, exhausted eyes. A hand reaches down and grabs Pit's. Squeezing it gently.

"Love bird, listen, we'll have to get through this meeting. If they're upset at us, then we need to bite the bullet. We can't do anything else right now.. but just know I'm going to be right next to you in that meeting, okay?" Sora's words soften. A thumb rubbing over the angel's knuckles.

His eyes widened slightly and he looked up at Sora. The comforting words, the soft touch, the sleepy - yet - loving gaze. Just by staring at him, he knew it would be all right if they were together.

With even the most downhill event, they were still together, at least. To comfort and warm each other.

A few moments later, Pit nodded. "Your right. We're together. I can't forget that." Sleepily chuckling at Sora, he slowly got up from his chair. Shedding feathers fell in the chair. "Yeah, we got this!" Pit felt more confident and squeezed Sora's hand in return.

Sora smiled. "Alright, let's get to that meeting!"

"Uh-!" Pit cut him off there. "But first-!" The angel reaches over on the desk and grabs a brush. Holding it out for Sora, "Mind giving me a hand on my wings?" He giggles lightly with a smile.

The keyblade wielder blinked blankly before chuckling to himself. "Yeah, sure. I got you, hummingbird." Sora muttered the nickname with a smile. Grabbing the brush from Pit.

The couple began to get ready for another day's work. Despite it not being Sora's original plan earlier. They got Pit's wings brushed and dressed in their combat outfits. Which were their tunic and jacket respectively.

Feet hit against the metal floor - creating semi-loud footsteps. Pit and Sora were all freshened up for today's dirty work. They both didn't mind because that's what they have been doing for a long time. Doing work. It felt like a routine by then.

They walked down the hall. Turning corners to get themselves to the meeting room. As they walked, they said hi to some friends that passed by. Some even chat a little to them. They often asked if they were okay and how they felt after yesterday.

The secret couple tried to answer their questions the most comfortable they could before setting back off to the meeting room.

Between walks, they often talked about what their future missions could hold. Sora pointed out some things he remembered seeing on the map in front of the entrance of the base. Pit suggested a few ideas to Sora and told him that maybe one day they can set off and do some exploring missions. Exploring was their thing next to fighting.

Finally, they made it to the door that holds the meeting room. The couple stared at the door. Pit showed signs that he was anxious with his eyes and often flicking wing. But that was pushed aside when Sora rubs his hand against Pit. Gesturing him that he will be with him and that it'll be okay.

That made Pit blush. Hoping that nobody inside the meeting room will notice his pinkish cheeks.

The keyblade wielder reaches over and opens the door. He walked in first and stepped aside to hold the door for Pit. The angel walked in and looked across the room. Seeing Fox, Falco, and Samus sitting at the end of the table. Some papers were by the three as well.

Anxiety practically spiked for the angel. Wings pressed against his body like a wolf's tail between his legs. All three pairs of eyes stared at the both of them. Even Sora admitted to himself that he was extremely nervous by their stares.

The two walked up to the table and sat down on the chairs. The door automatically closes behind them.

"Good, you two made it," Falco said, arms crossed against his chest.

Wings drooped down at the tone of his voice, Pit nervously stared at him. "Y-Yep! Can't really pass up a meeting, can we? Ah-hahah…" Nervous laughter filled the room. Sora eyed Pit for a second before returning his gaze onto the trio.

Knowing Pit, he doesn't like confrontation unless it was extremely necessary. Sora knew he had to step up to at least give his lover a boost of confidence. "Listen, we're really sorry about what happened. We would have never wanted this to hap-"

"We've heard it all." Samus interrupts Sora. Causing Sora to freeze in place. The angel beside him also flinched from the response. This wasn't looking too good for both of them. Were they that mad?

Fox cleared his throat, "It was.. a shame that Incineroar sacrificed themselves for you two. But I am glad to see you two safe after that mission."

"Huh?" Pit tilted his head. Sora raised an eyebrow at them. "But, I thought you guys were mad at us.." Pit said with furrowed eyebrows.

Both Falco and Fox shook their head at the two.

"We heard that Incineroar chose to protect you two. Why should we be mad at something you two had no control of?" Samus said truthfully.

The couple sighed.

"We wish we could have helped them. But.. we were injured.. really badly." The keyblade wielder looked down on the table.

Pit felt guilty in this situation. If he was strong enough, he could have saved both Incineroar and Sora from those puppets. Incineroar was the only one who put on a brave face and fought them long enough for Pit and Sora to escape.

The trio understands their guilt. But they knew that there was nothing to be guilty of.

Falco slides some papers that were sitting by him. Taking a peek to see the reports and new written instructions for the two. "We've all three decided that your schedule will change slightly. It's a temporary change."

White wings perked up at the schedule change. Cornflower blue eyes gazed on Falco. "A schedule change?" Even Sora was interested to hear what this was all about.

"You two will be on break till' further notice," Fox explained.

Eyes widen from the duo.

"What?!" Pit yelped.

"Wait, Why?!" Sora leans in slightly. Pressing his hands against the table. The angel was also just as curious as the keyblade wielder.

"It's best if you take a break. You two have been in and out of the hospital room and have done many missions even before its initial schedule." Samus informed.

"So… like a vacation?" Pit's eyebrow quirked up while Sora hums.

"You could say that," Falco responded.

"Nonetheless, please enjoy your few days off, you two," Fox said almost professionally. "It's for the best."

Both Pit and Sora were very surprised at the news.. yet, slightly disappointed. They weren't expecting that after a failed mission. A crucial member was especially lost during it as well.

The trio dismissed them - watching the duo get up, push in their chairs, and leave the room, out into the hallway. The angel and the keyblade wielder stand outside of the room. Thinking about the meeting all over again.

"Sora..?"

"..Yeah, Pit?"

"...Do you feel like we failed a mission and they put us on break because we failed that bad..?"

"..Yeah."

The couple takes a long deep breath and lets out a long, tired groan. All that hard work feels like nothing to them since Falco, Fox, and Samus put them on break. It felt like all their reputation was just thrown out the window. Exhaustion was on their faces. Not to mention, the look of pure defeat.

"This just sucks…" Sora admitted.

"I know. It really does."

Pit slowly walked over to the metal wall. Turning around and pressing his back against it. The back of his head pressed against it and his eyes shifted up.

"This feels like salt rubbing in the wound, honestly." Pit truthfully told.

Sora goes over to him and stands right up to him. "Talk about a break." It was a bittersweet vacation. Did they deserve it? Yes. But did Fox, Falco, and Samus have to give it to them like that? No! Of course not!

They felt useless - pathetic, even! Failing and getting benched? That's the worst feeling ever to the couple. Could they have at least waited till they did a good mission then put them on break? It would have been better in their eyes! Still, that's what happened. And they couldn't change it.

Ocean blue eyes stared at the angel with a sad look. Pit just continued to look up at the ceiling. Waves of defeat already filling in their hearts. They had to accept this. Not every battle won in a war.

Gentle growling came from Pit. The lovers jolted slightly at the growl. The angel looks down to hear that it was coming from his stomach. Arms carefully wrapped around his abdomen and looked up at Sora. "S-Sorry, the meeting made me hungry.. and upset."

The spiky-haired brunette simply sighed at his angel. "It's okay. C'mon, let's get to the cafeteria. I'm starting to get hungry too." He tilted his head in the direction of the cafeteria.

Food sounded like a good idea to Pit. Sora began to walk down the hall and Pit followed afterward. Rubbing his stomach as they went. While walking, the keyblade wielder had some questions.

"What do you think we'll do now?" Sora asked.

Pit sighed at the question. Shaking his head, "Nothing, really. I doubt they will let us carry on our missions till they say so."

"Darn.." Sora's look saddened at that. Feeling more waves of defeat crashing into his heart. "Does that mean we're back to training?"

"Probably. But I rather rest right now, like they said. We need it more than anything right now." Also, some time to think..

"Your right. It's better if we enjoy it as a break and not some excuse to train more."

"For now." Pit joked slightly to his boyfriend. Earning a small chuckle from him.

"Yeah."

There was a moment of silence between the two. They were just simply walking down the hall. Turning any necessary corners and keeping an eye out on anybody walking by. In case they ever want to talk lovingly to each other.

Going to the cafeteria was enjoyable for the both of them. They picked up their food and sat down on a table and talked for a little bit. Things don't look great right now, but they know it'll get better soon.
