Friday:
Hearing a knock at the front door, Abel abandoned his father who was preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
"I got it!", Abel yelled with excitement.
Jax immediately cut the high flame to the stove, chasing after his hyperactive mini me.
As Abel's hand fell onto the gold doorknob, Jax scooped him up in his arms, causing Abel to let out a high pitched squeal.
"Daddy's got it," he corrected as he looked through the peephole.
Seeing Britt stand on the opposite side with a large black gift bag, Jax unlocked and opened the door.
"Hey Britt," Jax greeted, moving aside to allow his wife's best friend inside.
"Mornin' boys. Mmm, it smells amazing in here," She stated as she directed her attention toward the kitchen.
"Abel wanted pancakes. You want a stack?"
"Absolutely. Hook a girl up, Teller."
He nodded, setting Abel down due to his sudden squirming in his arms.
"Is that for me, aunt Britt?", Abel asked, pointing to the bag.
Britt squatted down in front of him, touching the side of his face.
"No handsome, not this time. It's for your mommy. Where is she by the way?"
"She's in her room," he answered with visible disappointment in the tone of his voice.
"Okay thanks, Abel. You should go check on your daddy. You know he'll burn the house down if he doesn't have you there to help him."
"You're right," he perked up, taking off to the kitchen, causing Britt to chuckle.
Britt reached Jax and Mel's bedroom, knocking on the white frame of the open door.
I looked up from my open suitcase, smiling from ear to ear at my best friend.
"Hey stranger," I greeted, strolling over to her, bringing her in for a tight embrace.
"Hey Mel," she replied, pulling away from me, giving me a brief once over.
Concerned, I started looking at my own body.
"What is it Brit?"
"For someone who was gunned down and nearly killed a week ago, you look fucking fantastic."
"Aw, thanks. This is what happiness does to you. I'm feeling better. The house is in perfect order for the inspection this afternoon. But, I must say, you look great as well. It must be from all that great sex with your new Latin lover."
Shortly after the Cara Cara incident, Britt left Charming to spend some time with her family down in Norco.
In the midst of her mini vacation, she met Mateo, and they have been inseperable ever since.
"You better believe it. Speaking of lovers and great sex, I come bearing gifts," Britt stated, holding up the gift bag she's had in hand since she entered our home.
"Britt, you didn't have to get me anything."
She set the bag on the bed next to my suitcase, shaking her head in disagreement.
"I beg to differ. If I didn't, I wouldn't deserve the best friend title."
She turned the bag upside down, allowing the multiple products to hit the mattress.
"I got you some flavored cremes that aslo help build stamina, which I'm sure neither of you have a problem with in that department, but I bought 'em anyway. The standard massage oils, oh and this."
She picked up the three hundred plus sized book from the bed, holding it up under her forrest green eyes.
"And what's that?"
"The holy bible of sex positions. The clerk even took the time out to fold the pages that help with fertility, ya know since you're so damn close to being cancer free. Page sixty seven gave her twin girls."
I smiled, pulling her in for another hug.
"Thanks Britt, you're amazing."
"I know. Oh shit, I almost forgot."
"There's more?"
She gathered the purchased items and placed them into the suitcase.
"This last thing I have for you was requested by your husband."
Still on the hanger, she reached into her large bottomless purse, revealing my outfit from my last movie.
I took it from her possession, removing the racy clothing from the hanger.
I folded it neatly, laying it on top of the items Britt dropped in there.
"I guess we now know which one was his favorite."
"It makes sense. A mechanic attracted to a slutty mechanic. The shoe fits."
Britt glanced into my suitcase, taking a peep at what else I will be bringing with me for the week.
"Mel, and I'm sure Jax will feel the same way if I asked him, but I think it's utterly pointless to bring clothes. You'll be lodged onto his stick the entire time you both are gonna be at that cabin."
"On the contrary my friend. If you look closely, you will notice that my packed "clothing" isn't my day to day clothes. But, things I borrowed from Cara Cara."
She stole another look and nodded.
"Ah, I see. Great minds do think alike."
"Britt, would you be able to do me a favor after you leave here?"
"Sure honey, anything."
"You mind bringing my suitcase up to the cabin? I'm not sure how deep this inspection goes or how much of a hard ass they're going to be if they see all of thi.."
"Say no more. I got you."
Later that Afternoon:
Abel was sprawled out on the couch with my mom and Gemma watching tv.
Jax and I were going over every part of the house to ensure it will no doubt pass the initial inspection.
A firm knock was made at the door, causing everyone in the household to jump with anticipation burrowing deeper in their bones.
Jax made it to the door before me, looking through the peephole.
He nodded at me in which I did the same.
This was it.
The moment of truth.
Jax opened the door to Erica and an older woman with a clipboard in hand and a scowl on her face.
"Hey Jax. This is Donna Hanlin. She's the one assigned to my case."
"Hi, nice to meet you. This beauty over here is my wife Mel."
Jax had his arm outstretched as I immediately took my place next to him.
"Hi, I'm so glad we're able to do this. Please come in."
In perfect sync, we stepped aside for Donna and Erica to enter our home.
Gemma and my mother were already standing, eager to meet Erica( not so much Donna).
"Donna, Erica, this is Gemma and Linda. And that little man is Abel."
Erica immediately shook our mothers' hands, and bent down in front of Abel, who was standing in front of my mom.
"You're only three and you're this handsome? It looks like you have some serious competition, dad," Erica stated, looking back at Jax.
"It's no competition, darlin'. I've been out of the game for nearly two years now," He replied, looking down at me before giving me a kiss on the side of my head.
While we were making casual conversation, Donna was quietly moving around the house, writing down what she is currently observing on her aged clipboard.
I personally think the clipboard is the same age as her.
Man, I shouldn't be rude.
Not even in my thoughts.
The universe could use that against me, and we won't get our baby boy.
I pulled out of Jax's grasp, entering the garage with Donna.
"Is there anything I could get you, Donna?"
"No, I'm fine," she replied, keeping her eyes on the paper clenched tightly to her chest.
"Okay. Just let me know."
Taking the hint, for the rest of the visit, my family and I gave Donna the space she wanted while she conducted her inspection.
An hour and fifty three minutes.
That's how long she took until she announced proudly in the living room..
"Okay, we can call it a day."
Jax and I stood to our feet, bringing ourselves in front of her.
"So, is there gonna be another guy runnin' around here?", Jax asked.
"Possibly. I still have to go back to the office and process my paperwork. You will have your answer by the end of day. Erica, you ready to go?"
Erica put her private conversation on hold with my mom and Gemma, shifting her attention to Donna.
"No actually, I'd like to stay for a little while longer. If that's okay with Jax and Mel."
"Of course it's okay with us," I replied, giving her a soft smile.
"And how will you get home?"
"I'll take her home," Jax chimed in.
"On your harley? No offense son, but bikes and babies don't exactly mix."
"No mam. I have my truck. My bike might not be baby efficient, but my truck sure is."
With Erica and my husband's help, I began preparing chicken marsala for dinner.
As Jax began setting both tables( one from the garage due to the extra company we have), the home phone started to ring.
We both raced to the phone in which I got to first.
Not without knocking it off of the charger and onto the kitchen floor first, of course.
I pushed the answer button with shaky fingers amd brought the phone to my ear.
"Hello?", I answered as I stood to my feet.
"Melanie Teller?"
"Yes, this is she."
"This is Donna Hanlin from the Heartsent adoption agency."
"Hi Donna."
"Congratulations. It looks like you're gonna be adding to your brood."
"Really? You're not messin' with me right because I honestly don't think my heart could handle it. I might actually die from a joke that cruel."
Donna smiled to herself.
"I'm as serious as a heart attack, sweetheart. I wish you and your growing family nothing but the best."
"Thank you."
I hung up the phone with everyone standing in silence with their eyes glued to me.
"Mel, what did she say?", Jax asked.
"And then there were four!", I yelled, throwing my hands up in the air.
"You.. you're saying.."
"We're gonna have another son!", I squealed as I jumped into Jax's arms.
His arms coiled around my back as my mouth crashed to his with tears of happiness streaming down my face.
Gemma, Linda, Abel, and Erica automatically screamed and cheered, making their way over to us, showering Jax and me with affection.
Also in tears, my mom pulled out her cellphone.
"Mom, who are you calling?", I asked as Jax set me down on my feet to pick up Abel.
"Everyone, Mel bear. We're gonna celebrate."
