Angelic speckles of warmth touched Ryuko's arm, prompting her to stir. The sun was up, alerting her to a new day. Alerting her to the cold air on her exposed leg, where the blanket didn't reach. Alerting her to the familiarity of her stuffed animals. Alerting her to...
Amanda.
She fell asleep here? Ryuko's played back last night's sleepover in her head, but its reel was disrupted by the sight of her being this close, bringing her back to reality. The two had been talking into the early hours of the morning, until they drifted off into separate worlds. Yet, she was only inches away, within arm's reach.
Amanda had almost none of the blanket, she realized. Her sapphire eyes protested for a moment, fluttering shut. Two more seconds, she allowed herself to indulge in laying with her. Then, with a quick movement, she snaked out from under the covers and stood over the edge of the bed.
It was a chilly morning, too. Ryuko's arms trembled as she draped the warmth over her friend, securing her in protectively back over the covers. Amanda was such a hot headed girl, many said. That was most certainly true. But to Ryuko, she radiated warmth, and most people just didn't know how to handle the flame to the match. She saw how her orange streaks emulated the tones and hues of the daylight. Her playful nudges prodded into her cold exterior, rattling her heart.
Maybe Amanda saw right through her, all her feelings, and was just not saying anything. These thoughts followed her as she headed for the bathroom.
