Chapter 15 (Timeline 1): A Lucky Guy

"How much have we drank?" Dawn frowned, looking down at her empty tumbler.

"Quite enough," said Ben from the armchair opposite her. "I'm sure you're tired."

Dawn was suddenly aware that she was sitting on his bed for the night. Rising from the sofa, her head began to spin. She took a step forward and collided with the coffee table, throwing her off balance. Ben leapt to his feet and caught her as fell forward into his chest. They stood with their arms wrapped about one another until she could stand it no longer.

"Ben," she whispered urgently in his ear. "I've missed you."

A shiver ran down his spine. She pulled back her head and stared up into his wide eyes.

"I meant what I said."

Fear suddenly gripped him, his heart was racing. Could this beautiful woman actually have feelings for him? She placed a warm hand on the side of his face.

"What are you thinking Benjamin Linus?"

He took a deep breath.

"That I was a lucky guy."

"You still are…"

She smiled, closing the gap between their lips.

A sudden loud bang brought them back to the room.

"Having fun?"

Alex stood at the front door, an inscrutable look on her face.

"Alex! I didn't realise you were still out," Ben said, jumping backwards.

"Yeah well, I wanted to give you guys some time to…catch up."

Ben smiled somewhat wildly at her, unsure of what to do next.

"Thanks Alex," Dawn grinned. "Did you have a good evening?"

"Yup."

"With Karl?" Ben frowned.

"Yup."

"Alex, you know how I feel about that," he said sternly.

"Oh Ben, lighten up! They're teenagers - let them be."

Alex grinned at the look of shock on Ben's face.

"Your girlfriend is really growing on me dad!"
