Chapter 6: It Doesn't Matter
"Rachel! Please don't climb the stairs. What have I told you about climbing the stairs? You're going to get yourself hurt!" An exhausted Blaze the cat roars at her five-year-old daughter. She was going through kind of a horrible stage right now. Of course, she wasn't a hard child to deal with in general, except sometimes she's a handful.
Surprisingly enough, Rachel listened. She got down from the railing of the stairs and got onto her two feet. Normally it took Blaze a few tries before her daughter finally listened. Sometimes between the tone of her voice told her daughter to be aware. Rachel tend to listen to her daddy much more than her mommy. That's how little girls were. Daddy's little girls!
"Thank you! Now, come into the kitchen for a snack. And no potato chips, it's not Friday night. It's only Tuesday. Instead we'll be having apple slices with cottage cheese." Blaze says in a calm voice. She was trying to keep Rachel on a health kick right now. Most children just get into the junk food and don't stop until it's gone. It wasn't necessary and Blaze wasn't having it. Her daughter needed to be healthy as a horse, and to listen. Brush her teeth in the morning and before bed, don't drink sugary drinks after 5PM due to her high sugar rushes she gets, and to have a glass of water right before bedtime to have sweet dreams.
Blaze never planned this. She wanted to wait another five years before she had a child. Shadow was the one who wanted kids. Believe it or not. They were casually laying in bed one night and the black hedgehog turned to his wife with loving gazing eyes. He wasn't a fan of people and wasn't very sociable either. But he loved Blaze with his entire heart and soul. More than he could ever muster. Fortunately for him, she was the same as him. They were a lot alike in multiple ways. That's why they connected so easily and so good.
Of course, Rachel wasn't a mistake. Absolutely not. Blaze just wished she could've waited a bit longer, that's all. She wasn't prepared for it. At first, once seeing the pregnancy test reading positive, she freaked out. Especially upon knowing it was going to be a girl. For the longest time Blaze thought to herself and even told a few others, that she wasn't ready for this. She wasn't physically or mentally stable enough for this.
But once she saw those two beautiful baby blue eyes for the first time—yeah, she made the right decision. When Rachel came out, she held Blaze's pinky in her entire little fist. It was like a miracle from heaven just gave her a reason to live further. Rachel was Shadow's mini me. She looked and acted just like him sometimes. The only thing she got from Blaze was her kind and calm nature. And her eyes.
"Okay mommy." Rachel says happily, sitting down at one of the chairs that was connected to the kitchen island. Blaze sighed with relief, nodding her head. Again—some days Rachel was really good. Other days? She was like a normal child. She would have her tantrums, would scream in the middle of the grocery store. Etc.
She began preparing a snack for Rachel, placing it into a small bowl. She peeled the apple slices because 'they're the most grossest ever mommy!'. Next was the cottage cheese. Cottage cheese was a wonderful snack for children, it wasn't too, too bad for you. A bit fattening but good for snacking rather than potato chips or chocolate.
"Here you go sweetheart." Blaze says softly, placing the now filled bowl full of food in front of her daughter. The little girl gushed out a thank you and began munching on the food happily. Kicking her tiny feet back and forth together excitedly under the island.
"I'm home." Shadow calls from the front entrance of the house. He put his shoes next to the coat rack and stepped inside. Rachel moved both quickly and excitedly towards her father, hugging him tightly. He wrapped his arms around her in return, lifting her up into his arms.
"Hi princess." Shadow coos, kissing her cheek. He carried Rachel into the kitchen after her greeting in return to him and placed her on top of the island. Although Blaze had told him countless of times not to do that. She gave her husband a look, swapping him with a cooking utensil playfully.
"Hello husband." Blaze says playfully. Shadow chuckles darkly, moving his hands towards Blaze's waist to pull her into a hello kiss. Rachel gagged in the background after watching the two of them. Blaze rolled her eyes once as she pulls away.
"Hello wife." Shadow says in return just as playfully. "I went out and got the mail on my way back from work. There's an invitation of some sort on the very top with both of our names on it. I believe it's Silver's mail but I'm not 100% sure."
Blaze listened to her husband and hummed.
The two got together a few years ago now. They met from Sonic, who said from the beginning that the two of them would be perfect together. They both were antisocial, they both didn't like people very much, they both were shy and withdrawn. Aka the perfect match for each other. And now Blaze can't see herself being with anybody else. He is her soulmate.
She lifted the mail that Shadow mentioned from the countertop and slid it open easily with her nail. She scanned through the letter quickly, nodding her head along with each thing that was being said.
"Well, was I right?" Shadow murmured.
"Yes. Silver is getting married to Whisper the Wolf. The wedding is tomorrow night…it's such short notice, but I guess that's because neither of us has checked the mail in forever." Blaze aimed the last comment at her husband, who put his hands up in surrender.
"How lucky of them." Shadow murmured again. Weddings, events, or anything of the source wasn't his thing. But if Blaze wanted to attend, then he would have no issues in going with her. Hell, going to his own wedding wasn't even his kind of thing. Luckily for him, Blaze didn't like fancy parties either. So, their wedding wasn't a huge event. It didn't have lots of people.
"I think we should go. We're their friends and we never back down from a friend. I know you don't like weddings, but this is a good chance for you to see some people whom you haven't seen in a while. Just give it a chance." Blaze says softly, placing her hand on top of her husband's.
"Okay." Shadow mumbled; his voice was low.
"And there will be—oh, okay." Blaze was expecting Shadow to pick a fight with her about going. Instead, he just agreed with her. That kind of thing doesn't happen very often. So, to say she was shocked was an understatement.
"I'll head to the store right now to buy a gift…did you want to pick out a dress during this time?" Shadow asked. Lifting Rachel down from the counter. He told her to go to her room until Blaze was ready for her. Rachel nods her head and went up the stairs to where her room was. One other thing about this little girl is that she loved her daddy and always listened to him. Of course, she listened to Blaze too. But Shadow, she did more.
Blaze scrunched her nose up in disgust at the thought of having to put on a dress. The only time she wore a dress was at her own wedding—that's it. Even at her prom she didn't wear one, she wore a blazer with dress pants instead. Dresses were not her thing. Besides, she hasn't seen any of her friends in what seemed like ages. If she were to wear something this formal and fancy to the wedding everybody would see her in a different light probably.
"Now babe…you know I don't own many dresses in our walk-in closet. I perhaps have maybe…two." This time it was Blaze's turn to murmur. Murmuring was usually Shadow's doing. Those two dresses were given to her as a present from her mother and father for her birthday years ago, but she never bothered to try it on or wear it.
"I know this isn't ideal for you, but I would try them on anyways. You only live once and besides, I'm sure you'll look beautiful." Shadow reassures his wife, leaning in to press a slight kiss to her forehead.
Blaze sighs, rubbing her temples with her forefingers.
"Alright. Then I'll go pick one out for Rachel, who has tons to choose from." Blaze says softly. Giving off a reassuring smile to her husband who returned the smile. She walked up the stairs after hearing Shadow leave the house and their car moving out of the driveway.
Upon entering their closet, Blaze was correct. She only had two dresses in there. One was a lavender with lacy sleeves and the other was a light pink with white underneath. Lavender was her colour, so she quickly decided on that one. She quickly tried it on and sighed at herself in the mirror. This was just plain awful.
And it was going to be a long night.

"Blaze, babe! It's time to go. We're going to be late." Shadow calls for his wife from down the stairs. Rachel was standing next to him in her cute yellow sunshine dress. With daisies on the bottom of the lace. Blaze put her hair up into cute little pigtails. She looked adorable. Shadow wasn't too bad himself. He was wearing a nice black suit with the matching black tie.
The cat princess sighed to herself, taking one last good look in the mirror at herself. This was it. Here goes nothing.
Her hair had a purple hairclip to go in It to match her dress. While she wore the lavender dress, she agreed with yesterday. There was some light make up on her face as well, not much though. She didn't need very much. She quickly put on some white flat shoes and picked up her dress while she walked down the stairs.
Shadow's eyes widened once seeing how beautiful his wife looked.
"Wow. You're absolutely stunning." Shadow says bashfully. Rachel cheered from underneath them.
"You look so pretty mommy! Like a princess." Rachel gushes out. Blaze's cheeks flushed into a deep crimson red at the compliments. Sometimes compliments just weren't easy to handle. Especially when you're not used to it.
"Thank you…. now let's get going before I change my mind." Blaze murmured again, locking the door behind them when they stepped out of their house.
They emailed Silver and Whisper yesterday evening to confirm that they were attending and apologized for getting back to them so late. They got a response not even an hour later, of Silver reassuring them that it was fine, and they were still welcomed with open arms.
Here they go.

The wedding was beautiful. Whisper looked beautiful in her white gown, it had flowery patterns all over it. Silver looked as happy as pigs in mud. Their design colour theme for the wedding was black and light blue—which were unique colours. Shadow stayed close to his wife, standing by her side while Rachel was standing in front of them so both parents could see where she was.
The first thing Blaze noticed upon entering the wedding was that Sonic and Amy had attended together. She had her arm linked with his as they walked across the building where the wedding was being held. Blaze felt a soft smile forming onto her face at the sight. Because the last time she saw the two of them, they were in a love/hate relationship. Now it looks like they're together. How sweet.
"Blaze! Hi girl, it's so good to see you." Amy says happily with her naturally cheerful voice. She gave her friend of many years a big hug, kissing her on both cheeks in greeting. Blaze froze for a brief second at the gestures but hugged back after a pausing moment.
"Hi Amy. It's lovely to see you." Blaze greets back. The two hedgehogs beside them didn't give off a greeting as nice as that one. Sonic crossed his arms across his chest when eyeing Shadow. Who gave off the just as bored expression. He had no interest in Sonic or anything that he has done.
"Faker." Shadow greets, clearing his throat He didn't want to cause a scene in a public area. Especially with his wife standing right at his side. He can't deny that after being with Blaze he had changed a lot, for the better. He has more respect now.
"Shadow." Sonic says with the same kind of tone of voice. Both girls eyed at their husbands. The tension was real. The moment, however, was cut off by Cream's adoring voice being heard amongst them.
"Hey crew!" Cream says back happily. She let go of Tails' hand long enough so she could give her round of hugs to everybody. Fortunately for the rabbit, she got along great with everybody. Cream had no enemies.
Blaze's eyes widened at Cream and Tails being together too. Wow. So, everybody has grown up a lot, huh? Wait. Does that mean-?
"Hi babe. Hi crew." Rouge was next, who was standing next to Knuckles. It was clear as day that they too, were together.
Shadow gave off an even longer hug to Rouge. Which Blaze noticed but didn't feel jealous over. She knew Shadow had a close friendship with the bat, but it didn't jeopardize their relationship or anything. Their friendship was of the same as Sonic and Blaze's. Sonic shared a certain type of bond and friendship with the cat that wasn't like any other.
The best part was? Now everybody was here. The whole crew was back together once more. It was great to see all their smiling faces and watching the way they interacted with each other. It's like the years that was wasted apart wasn't even wasted at all, everybody caught up quickly and effectively.
Amy squealed a bit upon seeing Rachel.
"Oh, my goodness! You certainly have grown. And what a beautiful little girl you are." Amy says happily leaning down to give the girl a hug. Which was returned.
"Thank you, Amy." Rachel says sweetly.
"Sonic ohmygod we HAVE to start trying for kids." Amy says with a pout. Sonic's face quickly turned as red as a tomato and cleared his throat.
"Maybe…hey I think the wedding is starting." Sonic says softly, upon hearing the music beginning to play. Saved by the bell. Sonic let out a sigh of relief at the music playing and Amy gave her husband a look that said, 'this isn't over'. Which meant they were going to have the baby conversation again soon.
Shadow grabbed Blaze's one hand in his while holding Rachel's in his other as they made their way to sit down at the front of the building. Amy and Sonic sat behind them, while Cream and Tails were sitting beside them. Rouge and Knuckles were on the other side of the four.
The doors opened to reveal Whisper in her beautiful wedding gown walking down the aisle with her father. He kissed her cheek when they got to the front of the chapel, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek and a 'good luck'. Silver eyed at his soon-to-be wife, and smirked.
Blaze straightened up in her seat at the man who was marrying them began to speak.
"We are gathered here today…"
Soon they were saying their vows and kissing each other on the lips. Making their new fond marriage official. Blaze stood up alongside everybody else and cheered softly when the new married couple kissed. Rachel made another 'yuck'! sound from below them. Shadow chuckles at his daughter's attitude on watching the two kiss. That's a good sign. That meant he didn't have to worry about boyfriends any time soon.
Shortly after, it was time for the after party. The gang was all gathered around Silver and Whisper who were giving off their thanks to people. Blaze gave Whisper a soft hug, rubbing her back swiftly.
"Thank you for having us. I speak for everybody in my family when I say that we had a grand time." Blaze smiled at the two. Whisper gawked over Rachel and gave her light kisses on her cheeks.
"You are so welcome my friends. Rachel is the sweetest thing ever. You two did such an amazing job with her. And we thank you for coming." Whisper says back. But their conversation was cut off short from Silver's family wanting to get professional photos of them done. Both Whisper and Silver waved goodbye to their friends, before taking off.
A slow song suddenly began to play, and Shadow lend out his hand to his wife.
"Would you like to have this dance?" He asked softly. Rachel was already dancing with Rouge and Knuckles on the dance floor, so she was being watched now and well taken care of too. Blaze looked down at his hand and shrugged her shoulders.
"Sure, why not."
While on the dance floor, Shadow placed both his hands around his wife's waist. Slowly leading her in gentle motion. She in return, placed her hands on his shoulders. The moment seemed so cliché. Their eyes were meeting, the music was engulfing into the background. The people who were once around them were no more, it was just the two of them in the room. The cat gazed into her husband's eyes, getting lost in them easily.
"I love you. We did such a great job." Shadow whispers in her ear. Referring to Rachel, who was now dancing with Sonic and Amy. Blaze nods her head, closing her eyes to take everything in.
"I love you too. And yes, we did."
"Maybe we should redo our marriage and get married again." Shadow teases.
Blaze laughs.
Not a chance.
Fin.
A/N: Hello friends! I'm sorry for such a shitty ending. I really didn't know how to end this one. And I didn't want to trail on endlessly and make it boring. I'm sorry for this chapter being rushed as well, I don't attend a lot of weddings so I couldn't go into great detail about it. I also apologize for it not being a long chapter like my usual ones. I recently moved and I am not motivated to do much anymore, but I'm still going to continue this story! I don't plan on abandoning it. I just ask that you please to patient. I promise the next one will be longer! Until then, I hope you enjoyed this endless amount of fluff.
Next chapter is going to be dedicated to StarBrandFan who wants a Cream and Tails one! So be on the look out for that. Please leave me a review requesting an idea or just expressing your thoughts on this one. It truly means a lot to me. Thank you so much to everybody who has supported me this far! Ya'll are amazing.
