Kacchako Week 2020

Day 4 Prompt: Stargazing

Chapter 6: Sparks of Guilt

Best Jeanist, along with other heroes, laid bloodied and unconscious or dead. 'All this to save me.' Flashbacks of what Best Jeanist told me about a Hero's name. 'Why for me?' The way I treated him and disregarded his teachings. 'Why would they sacrifice themselves for me?'

All Might dropped in from the sky, "I'll have you return my student!" He had held back his attacks to protect me, 'Was I really this important to them?' Next, I knew we were watching the screens. All Might had jumped in front of a woman to save her. When the smoke cleared a frail thin version of the Symbol of Peace remained. 'What happened?!'

'No, don't do this for me.' All Might pushed himself to the limits until finally, he stood victorious over the boss villain, broken and bloodied. He raised his fist high above his head and transformed, proclaiming he was the winner. This was it, the last stand of the great Symbol of Peace. I stood watching him in disbelief. 'It's all my fault!'

I grabbed my head with both hands. Images from my capture flooded my mind. 'It's because of me.' I fell to my knees. His voice came over the screen's speakers, "Now, it's your turn." Tears ran down my face, 'His career, his legacy as a hero is over because I'm so fucking weak!' My mom's voice broke through, "If you hadn't been so damn weak, you never would've gotten caught and caused all that trouble!" Darkness surrounded and consumed me as I knelt there crying.

My eyes shot open and I was in my dorm room. 'Another damn nightmare.' It was then that I noticed the warmth on my cheeks. When I touched them I felt wetness on my fingers. 'How pathetic, I actually fucking cried.'

I glanced at the clock hoping it was close to morning. It read 23:48. 'Great, another sleepless night.'

I wiped my face with my arm, got up, and went to our floor's community men's restroom. 'Damn, I look like shit.' I turned on the warm water and rinsed my face down to erase the tear marks. Afterward, I went downstairs to grab a drink and some energy bars. The whole dorm was quiet and I could hear the crickets from outside.

That old hag's words crossed my mind again, "If you hadn't been so damn weak, you never would've gotten caught and caused all that trouble."

I growled, 'Of course I fucking knew that! She didn't have to remind me!'

I collected my drink and energy bars and went back into the elevator, headed for the roof. 'Since these assholes set a fucking curfew for leaving the building, I'll just train on the damn roof.'

I got out on the top floor and climbed up the stairs to the roof. When I opened the door I took in the fresh air. 'I need to get stronger! Nobody will ever have to save my sorry ass again! Those fucking villains won't know what the hell hit them the next time they see me!'

I walked to the section of the roof that was the boys' side of the dorm. I didn't need anyone thinking I was a pervert trying to climb down to the girls' balconies.

After some basic stretches, I started with alternating high kicks. The headlines that Best Jeanist had gone missing flashed across my mind. 'Damn it! Fuck it all to hell!' Anger filled me and I kicked harder and faster. 'I'll never allow myself to be so weak as to be captured again!'

I switched to low kicks. All Might stood looking frail and sickly but victorious. 'No shit he was victorious! All Might always wins!'

A while later I switched to punches. The headlines of All Might's retirement entered my mind. 'Why? What had caused it to happen?!' I could feel my palms heating, but didn't care, 'Seeing that cat hero passed out and then learning her quirk was stolen by that damn villain. Was All Might's quirk taken?' I stopped for a second to take a drink then started punches again, 'No, that's not it.' I heard Deku's voice, "You'll see, I'll work until I have full control of this borrowed quirk." 'Impossible!'

I was so angry and lost in my thoughts while training that when something touched my shoulder, I automatically turned and shot an explosion.

"Ow!" Uraraka fell back, her upper left arm red from being slightly singed. Shock and fear was written on her face.

"Fuck!" I was probably just as shocked as she was, "It was a damn reaction. Don't ever sneak up on me like that!"

She lightly grabbed her arm, "I didn't exactly sneak up. I've been calling your name since I walked out here and saw you."

'What? Was I really that focused?' I sighed and held out my hand to help her up, "What are you even doing up here this late?"

She grabbed it and rose before answering, "When I still lived at home, I'd go outside and stargaze on nights I couldn't sleep." She gave me a stern look, "Before I disturbed you, you were looking pretty upset about something." She pointed to a blanket spread out near the entrance of the roof with some snacks beside it, "You can join me."

"I find no use in that type of shit." I grabbed my drink and energy bars, opened one, and headed towards the door.

She grabbed my arm but immediately let go when I turned and glared at her. She then spoke seriously, "Bakugo, with the way you've been acting lately, something is affecting you. I'm not sure about anybody else but I know." She pointed to her left wrist, "Maybe it's because of our Soul Bound that I noticed."

Anger boiled inside me and I yelled, "I don't need to fucking tell you anything, floaty! Mind your own damn business!"

"I'm not demanding that you tell me anything. I'm guessing you can't sleep, so instead of going to sulk, join me." Her tone softened, "Perhaps something as simple as stargazing can help take your mind off things. Even though we aren't friends, I'm worried about you."

"I don't need nor want your shitty concern," I grumbled. 'Didn't realize she had this kind of determination in her. She's actually fucking standing up to me.'

I walked over and roughly sat down on the damn blanket. It was either do something stupid to pass the time or go sulk in my dorm room. The former sounded like the better option. I ate my energy bar as she laid down next to me.

"What do you think of this new dorm system?" She asked staring up at the night sky.

I finished eating before giving my answer, "I couldn't care less but the commute is shorter."

"That's true. It'll definitely save my parents money since I don't have to pay as much for train passes."

We sat in silence for a while. I eventually laid down to get a better view of the sky. It was probably the damn Soul Bond affecting me but I felt a sense of calm at the moment. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, 'It might be something so simple but it is helping. I guess floaty was on to something.'

"You see that constellation?" I opened my eyes to see her pointing somewhere in the sky. I followed the direction but had no idea what the hell she was pointing at. There were a bunch of stars.

I looked back at her, "I have no damn clue what you're pointing at."

She started to scoot closer to me, something I didn't expect. She paused when I leaned away and waited for me to relax once more. She scooted right up next to me and pointed to a set of stars tracing them. I hated people in my personal space but she displayed such enthusiasm that it was hard to disappoint her.

'Usually, I'd be punching someone for coming so close, probably the Soul Bond at work.' I groaned inwardly.

"That's Aquila, the Eagle. And over there." She pointed and traced another set of stars, "That one is Pavo, the Peacock." She moved her hand once more, "This one is my favorite this time of the year. It's Cygnus, the Swan." She glanced back at me and scooted away a little when she realized just how fucking close she was. She smiled, "All of those constellations can only be seen this time of the year."

"So I guess this shit is a fucking hobby of yours?"

She beamed, "Of course! I love space and everything about it! Maybe it has to do with the fact my Quirk is Zero Gravity." She pumped her fist, "You'll see! When I become a famous pro hero and have the money I'm going to buy a telescope!" She frowned, "It does suck we are near large cities though. All the lights affect what can be seen. Back home, I can see more stars."

"Hmm," I replied to let her know I was still listening.

"What about you?" She looked at me, "What do you enjoy doing."

I side glanced at her, "Why would I tell you? Like you pointed out earlier, we're not even friends."

Her expression turned neutral as she looked back at the sky, "True."

After a few minutes, I said, "Training," She shifted her attention back to me, "cooking, hiking." I kept my attention on a bright star I found. 'Why the hell do I feel compelled to answer?'

"Hey, round face, is this bright ass star part of any constellation?" I pointed to the one I was staring at for a while.

She scooted closer to see which one I meant, "Yeah, that's the star, Sirius. It's part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog."

She continued to point out different constellations to me and explain little facts about each one. After a while, I closed my eyes and continued to listen. Only opening them occasionally when she nudged me. 'She really does love this shit. I wonder how long she'll keep going on about it.'

I squeezed my eyes further shut against the bright light that suddenly shined on them. I rolled away only to realize that my head was on something soft and a soft layer covered me.

I jolted up, 'What the hell?!' Looking around I realized it was morning. I was still on the roof and Uraraka was nowhere to be found. 'I swear that I was just listening to her. Did I really fall asleep?'

There was a pillow where my head had just been and a blanket was covering me. 'It must've been her doing when she noticed. Why the hell didn't she wake me up?'

I rubbed my eyes and got up, 'At least I didn't have those fucking shit ass nightmares again.'

Glancing around, I noticed that everything except the pillow and the two blankets was cleaned up. 'So fucking glad I don't have school today.' I gathered up the blankets and folded them, then collected the pillow and walked inside. Once I descended to the top floor I got onto the elevator to my floor. 'Good thing we're on the same floor.'

I walked to the girls' side of the dorm and searched for her nameplate. Hers was the first dorm. I knocked loud enough for her to hear but not to wake up anyone else.

After a few minutes, she opened it and poked her head out, a sleepy expression on her face, "Huh?"

"Here," I said shoving the blankets and pillow to her.

All sleepiness disappeared, "Oh! Uh, thanks!" She grabbed them from me, "You looked so peaceful that I couldn't bring myself to wake you up."

"Tch." I turned away and started to walk but paused. Before she could close the door, "Uraraka."

"Yeah?" The confusion was evident in her voice, probably cause I used her name.

"Thank you," I uttered before walking away.
