Day 5 Prompt: Festivals / Hand Holding

Chapter 7: Team Work

"We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but we won't let that stop us! Second years, let's do our best and show this world what the next generation of heroes is capable of!" Deku said over the speaker. All the extras around me cheered.

The nerd stepped off the stage and joined the rest of us. All Might, who was hosting the Sports Festival this year, began to explain the first round.

"For the first round of this year's Sports Festival, it will be a battle royal. Use any means within reason to knock those around you out of the ring. Do not attack your opponents with the intent to maim, you only need to knock them out of the ring. The last 40 standing in the ring will advance to the next round."

They had us step to the sides of the stadium while Cementos created a ring big enough to fit us all. I looked around at all the other participants. My eyes landed on Todoroki, 'You better give it your all this year damn icy-hot!'

"So what do you think all of the challenges will be this year?" The blue-haired extra next to me asked, trying to start a conversation. I ignored her and continued looking around the arena. "Hello, I'm talking to you." She waved her hand in my face.

I glowered at her, "Get you're damn hand out of my face, extra."

Her eyes glowed purple before she huffed and looked away. In my observation, I spotted Uraraka. She was chatting with Deku. She bounced with excitement and pumped her fists in front of her. He displayed just as much excitement in his own way. 'She should've been Bonded to that damn nerd. Their personalities shine off each other.' I glanced at my own wrist, 'Most of the class already believes they are Soul Bound.' A twinge of jealousy hit me out of nowhere and I clenched my fists.

Before I had time to process what just happened, Present Mic started yelling over the speakers, "Alright! Who's ready! Participants, please step unto the ring!"

Once we were all on the ring Present Mic shouted, "Ready! GO!"

I immediately threw explosions at three people on my left who stupidly stood right near the edge. They fell off before they even knew what hit them. Next, I was against that plant haired girl from 2-B. She wrapped me in her vines and started going on about some weird shit. Wasting no time, I burned through them and propelled myself to her. I feigned a frontal attack but shot above and behind her at the last second and then used my explosions to push her out of the ring.

The whole time Present Mic was screaming his commentary, "Over half the contestants have already been eliminated! Class 2-A is pulling no punches! Look at them go! Not a single one has been knocked out!"

Ice started to consume the ring making the whole thing slippery, 'Damn you icy-hot!'

Close to me, that bastard with the stealing quirk from class 2-B was battling Uraraka and she was getting close to the edge. Without thinking I rocketed over and blasted him off balance on the ice. Uraraka took the chance and touched him, floating up and out of the ring before releasing him causing him to fall hard on his ass.

"Great job, keep showing these fuckers what you're made of, pink cheeks!" I said before going after my next target, some dude from the support course. His gadgets were good but weren't suited for the ice and I was able to knock him out of the ring. I continued to drop extras out of the ring, eventually losing count.

I looked around, there were few left compared to what we started with. Deku threw someone I didn't recognize out of the ring and Present Mic hollered, "This round is over! Great job all of you!"

We all walked over to the stage to listen to All Might's explanation of the second round, "Great job all of you! Congratulations to those who made it to the second round! Let's see what comes up for the second round" Everyone turned their gaze to the giant screen. It spun until it landed on an image of a spyglass and a stick figure tied up. "The next round is search and rescue!"

All Might turned his attention back to us and began to explain, "For this round teams of four will go into the woods just outside this stadium to search for a victim and rescue them from their captors. The losers of round one will still have a chance to shine. They will also be in teams of four with three as villains and one as the victim. There will be a ten-minute time limit."

Some of the staff walked towards us with boxes. All Might continued, "In the real world, the heroes you are teamed up with is random because it all depends on who is in the area. So for round two, we will draw lots to decide on the hero teams. Those who will stand as villains and victims may choose who they want to team up with."

Some of the people around me booed and claimed that wasn't it wasn't fair as the villain team could be stronger. 'What a bunch of fucking morons. They don't get the point of the exercise. The ones in charge are trying their best to simulate a real situation.'

I drew a lot and looked at it. The letter E was written in bold print. After the lots were all distributed, All Might said, "Hero teams, we will give you 15 minutes to get together and come up with a plan, villain/victim teams once you come up with four members join me outside the arena."

I looked around and saw that girl with expanding hands from class 2-B holding up a lot with the letter E and walked over to her.

"Oh great, I'm stuck with you." She said with a smile. Soon that crazy support tech girl and shitty hair joined us.

"I'm with the winner of last year! Now my babies are bound to be noticed!" She started examining me like I was some kind of damn science experiment.

"Step the fuck away from me or I'll kill you," I barked.

"Still got that bad attitude, huh? Too bad my gadgets can't fix that!" She jumped away before I could blast her.

Kirishima stepped in between, "Chill bro. We have to focus on a game plan for now."

"I already have one," I said making them come closer to listen. "Here's what we are going to do."

Four teams went ahead of us, three of them successful. As soon as we walked into the woods I turned to the tech maniac, "Hey gadget freak, you said that you had something to amplify your hearing, start using it. The faster we find them the better chance we have."

"You can call me, Hatsume." She said before putting on strange earphones. After a second she used the rockets in her shoes to shoot above the trees. She glanced in a certain direction for a few seconds before lowering herself back down. She took off her earphones and started walking southeast. "Once I heard their voices I used my quirk to observe them. Two are standing outside of a cave and I'm guessing the third is inside the cave with the victim."

We followed her as she used her gadgets to propel herself forward. "They are about 3 Kilometers this way!"

As we got close we tried our best to remain quiet. I took a deep breath and watched the enemies. One was that girl I snapped at before the first round started. 'Great. From her expression earlier, she's probably holding a grudge against me.'

I looked behind me, "Giant hands and gadget freak, while Kirishima and I have the two villains outside distracted enter the cave, subdue the villain inside, and save the victim. Once you have them, high tail your asses out of here." Both girls nodded. I was surprised the girl from 2-B was cooperating, she always took charge when it came to events like this with her class.

"These dumb fucks won't know what hit them!" I looked to Kirishima, "Shitty hair, get over here and get your stupid ass ready to fly."

He smiled brightly and gave a thumbs up, "This is gonna be so manly!"

I turned back to the girls, "You ready?"

"My babies and I are gonna blow their minds!" The Tech girl answered. "Let's win this!" Giant hands chimed in.

"Good, clear the area, and follow the plan." After they started running I grabbed Kirishima by the collar, "Make this count, Red." I growled before throwing him straight above the enemies. I boosted the throw with my explosion. As soon as he was in the air, I used my explosion to follow.

I shot above him and without a second to waste he activated his unbreakable form. I grabbed his arm, spun us to increase force, and threw him straight down to the enemies with an explosive boost. He slammed into the ground, forming a crater and scattering the two enemies.

I propelled myself down towards the blue-haired girl. She dodged and looked at me, her eyes glowing purple. Suddenly, I was surrounded by purple lilies, some gripping my feet. I blasted myself free and rushed towards her, activating the cylinder that Hatsume gave me before the round started. I chucked it towards her and in an instant, she was constricted by a capture weapon that looked similar to Aizawa's. I noticed Kirishima's opponent was also tied up.

We walked into the cave to find the third villain tied and the victim was gone. "Those girls were pretty quick!" Kirishima said with a smile.

We dragged all three extras out of the woods and found the girls waiting for us next to All Might.

"Great job, second years! You all have so much potential." He helped untie the extras before saying, "You can all head to lunch early while the rest of the teams finish their round."

Kirishima and I sat along the wall to eat lunch. We watched the other teams. Round face and sparky's four-man team won and Kaminari joined us right after. Later Deku and tape boy's team also won, of course. When I went to throw out my trash I ran into Uraraka.

"Thanks for the assist earlier. You were on fire out there and had some great moves!" She imitated some of the moves I used while fighting in both rounds.

'I didn't realize she was watching me,' I smiled. "You did well. That damn training we've been doing is showing. You are going far all on your own in this year's Sports Festival."

"Thanks! I'm pushing myself to be the best!" She beamed, "See you in the next round!" She waved and walked back to Deku and his group of friends.

In all, eight of the ten teams passed. After lunch, we walked back onto the field of the stadium. All Might was on stage ready to host the next round. We all turned our attention to the screen as the options spun. It landed on a picture of four stick figures, two against two.

"This year's third-round are two on two battles! We will let you decide who you want to be paired up with. You've got thirty minutes. In the meantime, all participants can join in on all the side quests we have planned."

'Who the fuck should I pair up with?' I started to walk to Kirishima when a hand grabbed my left arm. I turned to see brown eyes filled with hope staring back at me. "Can we be a team?"

We had been training for a few months now and even created a move that used both our quirks. "Isn't your goal to try and outshine me and that damn nerd?"

"Maybe." She said but then raised her fists to chest level, "But I also know you got a lot of crap last year for the way you battled against me and I thought if we worked as a team it'll look good for us both." She raised a fist above her head, "Plus we could show off that combo move and give those recruiters a taste of what we can do!"

I couldn't find a valid argument against her. "Alright, pink cheeks. Let's show these fuckers what a real team can do."

She stayed by my side after that and we watched the first few battles from the seats set aside for our class. We dominated the first round against Sero and Iida. Then kicked ass against Kendo and Hatsume in our second round. The third was against Kirishima and Ashido. Since they trained with us they were a little tougher to beat but we still won.

In the end, it was us against Deku and Todoroki. As we sat in the waiting room I started on some stretches. 'This is gonna be a tough fight.'

Uraraka tried to join in doing stretches but she struggled. When I glanced over I realized she was shaking.

"What the hell is wrong, floaty?" I asked stopping my routine.

She turned to me and scratched the back of her head, "I'm just so nervous. I've made it this far. What if I mess up and we lose because of it? I mean look at who we are up against."

I put my hand on her head, "Don't be so fucking stupid. Give yourself some damn credit for once, dummy." It was almost time so I headed towards the door, "We're going to wipe the floor with those fucking losers."

"R-right." She smiled but still sounded unsure.

We started walking towards the stadium, "I agreed to team up with you because I fucking believe in you and your abilities. Damn it Uraraka, believe in yourself!"

She smiled at me, "Really?"

"Yes." I kept looking ahead, "This will be a tough fight so we need to bring everything we have to it."

"Yeah! Let's win this Bakugo!" Her usual determination and cheer returned.

"The nerd still doesn't have full control of his own quirk, we'll take him out first."

Her enthusiasm faltered a little as she answered, "Ok."

We stepped unto the ring, "You better not hold back like a wuss again this year, icy-hot!" I yelled.

"I won't." He stated blandly.

"Begin!" Present Mic shouted.

Uraraka touched me, making me weightless and I immediately shot straight for Deku at blinding speed. Without time to dodge or throw an attack, he was compelled to block. Right before we collided, I could feel Uraraka's quirk release. The force of the collision threw him back a meter or two.

Todoroki attempted to step in and use his ice but Uraraka jumped in and trapped him into one on one combat. Somehow he was able to avoid being touched by her fingertips. Deku threw an air blast towards me but I countered with an explosion. He leaped through the smoke ready to kick me with his shoot-style but I expected it and blasted him in the face. He fell a few meters away and I propelled myself to him, grabbing his collar. I needed Uraraka to get him in the air, he was at a huge disadvantage there.

Not only was she keeping Todoroki occupied but he was also keeping her occupied as well. She was using his own ice against him. Luckily, he was at an angle to me that any attacks I sent his way wouldn't harm Uraraka. Seeing my chance, I flung Deku straight into Todoroki knocking them both to the ground.

"Now, pink cheeks!" I shouted as I ran towards them.

She moved quickly and touched Deku's leg. He tried to fight it using an air blast but I didn't give him a chance and leaped into the air after him. As he tried to kick me, I grabbed his leg and used my explosion to throw him to the ground outside of the ring. Uraraka released her quirk sometime after I left him go. He smashed in the ground so hard that it left a crater around him.

"Midoriya is out of bounds! What will Todoroki do now!" Present Mic screamed too loudly.

'That's one down.' As I dropped back to the ring I noticed Uraraka was caught in ice. 'Icy hot must've been trying to save Deku by forcing her to release her quirk early. Good thing it didn't work.' I evaded an attack from Todoroki and landed next to Uraraka and blasted the ice away without harming her.

"To win this we'll need to use our combo move as a distraction and then I'll use Howitzer Impact with the assistance of your quirk. As I drop, release your quirk."

"Okay." A determination was in her eyes as she smiled at me.

We both faced Todoroki and he sent a wave of ice towards us. using our quirks, we both evaded and I blasted through the ice. I continued frontal assaults on him smashing the ice and occasionally the ground when I missed him. I left him no time to noticed Uraraka, keeping his sole focus on me.

Frost was starting to cover him from overusing his ice quirk. "Still holding back against me you fucking bastard! Use you damn flames!" I shot an explosion towards his face.

He blocked with ice. His breath crystallized as he said, "I have no use for it."

I looked past him to see Uraraka signal me that she was ready. I feigned another frontal assault but maneuvered behind him, shooting him in the back, knocking him to the ground.

I ran to Uraraka, grabbed her hand, launched us both into the air above the floating field of rocks and ice debris. She held us in place using her quirk. Without wasting time I used both my arms and shot large blasts down on the debris. Uraraka released her quirk on everything but quickly caught us both once again. The flaming debris fell down towards Todoroki at an alarming rate.

Flames burst to life on his left side. 'Finally, you fucker!' I smirked. He shot his fire up towards the debris, blocking his view of us. it was then that I began alternating explosions, spinning myself around, starting my most powerful attack. As I hurled down towards Todoroki, I felt Uraraka release her quirk and my speed increased.

I dropped through the smoke over a meter away from him and even though he tried to block with flames and I slammed into him. The force of the fall was so strong that when I collided with him, we both flew back and eventually landed outside the ring.

"Todoroki and Bakugo have been thrown out of the ring! Uraraka still remains! The winners of this year's Sports Festival are Uraraka and Bakugo!" The cheers from the crowd was deafening.

I stood up and looked over to Uraraka who was standing in the ring with a look of shock written on her face. After a few moments, she smiled, raised a fist up high, and jumped.

They ushered her off the ring to set up the podiums. Deku ran to her to congratulate her and they shared a high five. After speaking with him for a few moments, she walked over to me, a slight bounce in her steps.

"Congratulations." Todoroki held out his hand.

"You actually used you shitty flames this time." I ignored his outstretched hand.

Before he had a chance to respond, I was tackled in a hug, "Bakugo! We did it! We won!" When she saw the look on my face, she quickly released me, "Sorry. I'm just so excited!"

Once they had the podiums set up, the staff directed us to the first place stand. Aizawa presented the medals as Present Mic said the name's over the speaker.

"The last people I expected to team up would've been you two. You both did good, but continue to work hard if you want to become great heroes." He placed the medals around our necks.

Even though I was happy with how I won this year, I kept my expression neutral. A hand grabbed mine, sending warmth through me. I looked at Uraraka who was staring at me with a bright smile. "We made such a great team! I hope we both get a lot of internship requests!" At those words, the memory of Best Jeanist flashed across my mind.

When she raised our joined hands up high and I noticed that her pinky wasn't touching my hand. The warmth that our Soul Bond created whenever we touched was calming, so I didn't pull away. I looked down at her, she was shining with excitement, 'When the fuck did her touch go from something that disgusted the hell out of me to something that can send a calming wave over me?'

This chapter ended up a lot longer than I expected.

I feel like this isn't my strongest work. I apologize if this chapter falls short.
