You live and learn
Sarah drove through the Starbucks drive thru with four coffees and something to nibble on. She didn't need anything to eat but she needed some coffee to keep her awake. She had exhausted all her energy in more ways than one, but it was a long time in coming and she hoped that Chuck felt the same.
Chuck rolled over in search of the person that had completely surprised him last night, the one who finally took down her walls that she had been protecting for a long time. Chuck felt that the bed was empty, he opened his eyes. A little disappointed but he saw her note. He sat up and leaned on his elbow and read it. 'Morning, I had to go and get some clean dry clothes. Last night was amazing, you're amazing. See you soon. Sign with a heart and a capital S.'
Chuck rolled onto his back. 'It finally happened, I won over Sarah Walker. Last night was amazing! ´ Chuck got up and grabbed a quick shower and wanted to get back to Castle and give her a morning kiss.
Castle
Chuck arrived at Castle and looked up and saw the tray of coffees. He grabbed what he thought was his and grabbed a muffin. He looked up and there she was. He remembered last night, and the early hours were everything he had imagined had come true; that he finally made love to Sarah Walker. 'The infamous spy, sexy vixen, and the most beautiful woman in the world. Spent the night with me.' Chuck's step where a bit lighter or it felt lighter. He didn't want to brag but man it was amazing. He just hoped that Sarah had felt the same. And why would she? They did it three times. You can't fake that. As soon as she came into view, his ultimate high came down in a crash as he saw Bryce was holding her hand and caressing it the way he had hours before. Sarah looked up and pulled her hand away and walked towards him. "Chuck!"
"Hey buddy."
Jealous or not Chuck left his coffee and headed back up the stairs. Sarah grabbed her coat followed him upstairs. "Chuck!"
Chuck slammed the door and headed across the parking lot, leaving Sarah alone.
Hours later he slipped around the side of his apartment and walked up towards the stairs and there Sarah was sitting on the top step. She hoped that he'd sit down with her but when he walked past her, her heart tore in two. Chuck walked inside and Sarah followed. Sarah dropped her coat and walked over and kissed Chuck, but it wasn't the kiss she got or hoped for. It was not a kiss from the lips she left hours before. She backed up a bit and looked at him. "Why didn't you stop when I called out?"
"I heard ya, but I figured that your hand might be a bit cold."
Sarah didn't like that Chuck saw Bryce holding her hand. "What you saw was not what you think. It was Bryce being Bryce. It meant nothing."
"Yet you still allowed him to hold your hand. Now I get it."
"Get what?"
"Did you think that coming over last night and you and I sleeping together wasn't some plan of yours to make you feel better, mark your territory. You and Bryce now me. I see a pattern here."
"Chuck, it was just Bryce being Bryce."
"Yeah you probably said that when you first met him."
Sarah didn't like where this was going. "Sarah I'm not going to be that guy. I'd rather be alone than wonder if I will always be second. And when it's finally convenient for you. Then you come over, make me believe that you cared for me and that last night was more than you and I having sex."
"It's not like that. You were never my second choice."
"As I said months ago when you left. You chose to leave with Bryce. You probably always wanted a way out. You never wanted to be here babysitting as you called it."
"I never said that."
"But you did say that it was your job. And everything we went through, felt experienced was just the job." Chuck came closer to Sarah. "Our first kiss. Even if it was on the cheek. Then you kissed me. You made the first move and you can't say you didn't feel anything. Our first date without the title of spy, a real date. The kiss in the kitchen. Our talks. That was not Sarah the spy but the Sarah I liked getting to know. Even after I had gotten over the fact that you were with Bryce. I truly believed that I was the luckiest guy ever to have someone like you in my life. Then in a blink of an eye you leave, and I am supposed to welcome you back."
"Well you didn't say that last night."
"Would you? If you felt that way, that I feel about you. Then leave without an explanation. Then months later I show up at your door."
Sarah doesn't know what to say. She knew she should have said something last night. "I can't do this. We can't do this, if you aren't completely in it with me."
Sarah choked up. "You can't say that last night. You and me. Making love."
"It happened but if I knew that the next day I'd bounce back into ex's corner.
"It wasn't what it looked like. "
"Even if it wasn't, I would have had maybe a bit more self control last night."
"But you didn't stop it either. You were feeling exactly what I was feeling. Unless you're a pretty good actor you can't fake last night or the other times. Chuck, I didn't plan on it to happen with you and me and when I came over, but I don't regret it and I you're not my back up. I wanted you to forgive me and tell you that you were more that I deserved."
"It's not that easy anymore. I'm tired of trying to find a happy medium with you with us. I think you should go."
"Chuck!"
"No, I don't want to say something that I might regret. You deserve better. And right now, I'm done." Chuck walked away leaving Sarah speechless.
She grabbed her coat took one last look just in case he'd call he back. She slipped out and headed down the stairs. She was hurt but he made sense. She just hoped that it wasn't to late to fix it.
Late Afternoon – Echo Park
Chuck opened his door to take the garbage out and sees Sarah sitting by the fountain. He didn't know how long she had been there, but it looked like she never left. He walked out in his bare feet and sat down. "We seem to sit here often."
Sarah looked up and wiped her cheek. "I know. The last time."
"I figured that was the best thing to do." Sarah looked down at her hands. Then she looked back at him "And now?"
Chuck slid closer and Sarah grabbed his hand. "You have been the first person to see me for the person I am and not the spy. Even though you thought I was out of your league or that I would ever be interested in a guy like you."
"I'm not a Bryce."
"Neither is he."
Chuck laughed. "No seriously. Bryce is Bryce and he will never change. And I thought I needed someone like that. Someone other than who I figured I needed. And did I know that it would be in man named Chuck Bartowski. Bryce and I were just a one-time heat of the moment thing but you and I."
Chuck felt awful for what he had said to her. He was jealous and this was not the Chuck he was feeling or the Chuck he wanted Sarah to see.
Sarah gets up and Chuck stands up. He stopped her and holds her in an embrace. Sarah stood still but when his arms felt good around her body, she lifted her arms and hugged him back. Sarah kissed him softly on the lips then left before he could respond.
Early the next morning
Chuck rolled over and sat up. "Chuck!"
Chuck opened his eyes. He sees Beckman on his TV screen. "General it is very early here, what can I do for you?"
"You can wake up."
"I am up."
"You can fix this?"
"I would if I knew what needed fixing?"
"You and Sarah."
"What do you mean?" Chuck trying to deny that there was anything going on between them. Beckman continued to talk as if she didn't care. Chuck knows that she's not done yet. "Chuck, I like you."
"I like you too, General."
"So, what I am about to say is highly out of character for me. But what the heck are you doing?"
Chuck sat up straighter. "What do you mean?"
"You and Walker?"
"I don't understand."
"Your treating her like she means nothing to you."
"But General she's complicated."
"Yes, she is but you love her and now that you have a chance take it."
"But she left with Bryce."
"But she came back to you! What woman would go to the lengths that she did to come back and then have her leaving thrown in her face."
"But General she's a spy and I'm."
"You're a spy so act like one. Go get her back."
Chuck woke up in a sweat and stared at his TV. She had scared him once and she could do it again. He sat up and stared at her side. He called it her side as of late but would she have it again.
Chuck got ready and walked into Castle late and there was Bryce talking to Casey. He didn't want to give them the benefit or satisfaction that he couldn't deal with Walker. He walked around obviously looking for her. Casey motioned to the back. Chuck walked around to a far room that Sarah used to write her reports in. Chuck tapped on the window as Sarah looked up. She was surprised but relieved that he was there after how they left things between them. She got up and opened the door. Chuck came in. He closed the venetians then leaned against the wall. "I don't want onlookers." Sarah got up and disconnected the feed. Sarah saw how terrible he looked, and he looked as bad as she was feeling. They said some harsh things the night before, but they were together now. But would it involve the word forgiveness?
Chuck leaned against the wall. "Had a nightmare, sort of, with Beckman."
Sarah looked up. "No not that kind, but one that made me sit up." Sarah put down her pen. "Where to start?"
"Anywhere?"
Chuck started to talk with his hands. "You left."
"I know. And I said I'm sorry." I heard you and I know it's because you felt that leaving was your only option and I get that, well sorta. But to leave and go with Bryce of all people especially what he did to me."
"I know but that's my mistake not yours. Nothing happened."
"I know. I trust you. But you also missed Christmas and New Years."
"Yes, and yes. Again, I am sorry."
"You hurt me." Sarah got up. Chuck put his hand up and out. "Let me do this." Sarah stopped and stood there. "I'm not James Bond nor a Bryce."
"Well even if the Bryce we know isn't a Bryce either."
Sarah trying to lighten the mood. "I am lanky, fairly muscular I think, dapperly cute if that's a word."
Sarah looked up. "It can."
"I don't have the best score card when it comes to women. And when there was someone else, I could only think of you and that I was betraying you with another girl. Even though we weren't a couple. But you took my heart the first day I saw you. And somewhere I wanted it to go somewhere to be something. And I got glimpses of what it could be like. Our platonic sleepovers. Over heated kisses even if there was a bomb or not going off. Our subtle hand holding." 'That is what Chuck reacted like he did'. Sarah smiled inwardly. Chuck continued to talk. "You can't say that it was nothing. How can you fake that? Even the best spies fall victim to love. When you got hurt and I brought you flowers. You told me that I wasn't your second. And I believed that. And I know that if we weren't in a hospital, I would have kissed you."
"And I would have welcome it."
"But then the whole ending with Von Hayes and Juliette and you not taking the shot. Which I do need to thank you for that but because of that you felt that you couldn't protect me anymore that your judgement was blurred because of your feelings for me."
"That's why I felt I needed to go. Leave without trace let you forget about me and move on."
"How? When everything in here reminds me of you. Then I would remember that you were with Bryce and a few shots of Johnny sorta blocked those feelings and images of what I thought was going on." Sarah moved closer. "Nothing, happened. And I'm sorry for leaving you. I'm sorry that this job can be cruel. I'm sorry that your life has been messed up because of me. And the answer to your question if the tables were turned and I was you. I would feel the same. To feel something for a person and not have the opportunity to express it. Then the person I cared about got up and left with their ex I would feel exactly like you are feeling and do. But when I came over, I didn't expect us to sleep together. Though I have thought about it."
Chuck looked up. "You have?"
"Chuck when I was gone beside doing my job. Every thought, feelings, breaths I took I thought of you and how I left things and how you were feeling and what you were doing. Then when we got this lead, and I was excited because I got to come home to you. You're my home Chuck. And to make things right. Not to sleep with you and force you to take me back because I convinced you that we could be together, not to get you to sleep with me. If you need time. I understand. Despite your feeling towards me I knew that the other night it meant a lot to you." Chuck and Sarah both smiled. "Ok maybe a little more."
"That's okay. I'll take it. Your so beautiful and I'm the lucky one."
Sarah got closer. "No, I am."
Then she kissed him. Their lips remained close as Chuck embraced her body towards his. It felt good to hold her like this and not have to stop. Sarah felt his phone vibrate and it wasn't what she needed right now. Chuck leaned back and grabbed it out of his pocket. "Hey."
"Beckman is here."
"Okay thanks."
Chuck put his phone down on the table and kissed her some more. Sarah pulled back. "We better go."
Chuck nodded as Sarah grabbed his hand. "This is progress?"
"Yeah."
"Can I, we see each other later?"
Chuck grabbed her hand. "I look forward to it."
After the all-day briefing – Castle
They leave Castle and slip over to Sarah's. Barely getting in the door before they were bumping into each other trying to get rid of their outer clothing. Chuck had seen her place before and they had many deep discussions there, but this was a wish and desire that was finally happening. As they kissed, they both remembered many nights after Chuck dropped her off, she'd wish that he'd come upstairs. And how many times Chuck wished he could stay? And how many times she wished she'd ask him to stay? But neither wanted to cross that line until now. They had reached the point in their relationship and it was now or never, and they didn't want never to be an option. Sarah slid her fingers inside his shirt and pulled it off him and caressed his chest. She stared at it longer than she intended to. "Babe my eyes are up here."
Sarah laughed. Chuck slowly unbuttoned her blouse and it was his turn to stare. Sarah slipped out of her pants and Chuck did the same. They stood there with just their underwear remaining. Sarah kissed him to make sure he was all there. They just had a huge fight and make up sex sounded like a good way to make things right. But like the night before. She didn't want to make him think that she only wanted him for that, that he was always going to be her second. She held on as long as she could to her question. But what she wanted to say was not what came out. "I want you to know how I feel."
"You told me." As he planted kisses on her. "I know but after our fight, I want to make sure that you don't think that this is me getting my way."
Chuck was about to kiss her. Chuck placed his hands on her upper arms and looked at her. "We can't move forward if we keep bringing up the past. Yes, we fought, so do many other couples. And many fight, because of their ex's. I want to move forward with you."
"I want that to."
"Then what are you saying Sarah?"
Sarah leaned on her tippy toes and stared at him. "I want to tell you how I feel."
"Show don't tell would work here?"
Sarah made a straight smile and looked at him. What did she have to lose? She almost lost him months ago when she left but he took her back. And she might not have another chance like this if she blows it. "Chuck, I think I'm falling for you?"
The room got quiet. Then Chuck looked at her. "Isn't that nice." as he and dove into her neck. Sarah paused as she waited for him to lift his head in response. "What did you say?"
Sarah bit her lower lip. "Did you say that your falling for me?"
"For awhile now."
"I knew that it was one of the reasons you left but to actually hear it. Wow!"
Sarah pulled away to grab her clothes, his response was not what she wanted to hear. When Chuck stopped her. "I have fallen and tripped over you for almost two years." Chuck slowly leaned into her and gently touched her lips. Even though those 8 letters weren't made into words it was felt. Sarah backed to the bed keeping Chucks lips on hers. She lifted her leg and bent her knee and slipped into her unmade bed. She broke their kiss once as Chuck crawled into the bed and kneeled in front of her. Chuck held her face in his hands and kissed her lips. Then somehow he slipped his hands under her thighs and lifted her upwards and instinctively Sarah wrapped her legs around his hips as he cradle her in his arms laying her down on the bed. He kissed her lips then dragged them down her neck leaving marks where his lips were. He moved down her chest and kissed her stomach as he reached behind her and popped her bra clasp. Allowing him to grab it and toss it. He devoured her breasts then remained at her lips as Sarah worked their leftover clothing. Chuck grabbed the sheet and covered them up to his waist. Like the time before she knew that they were going to proceed but as they became one it startled her like it was their first time. She brought him close as humanly possible as they found their rhythm. Chuck made a new noise that she knew it was because something she did. He was able to startle her and now she was able to do that same to him. He had to catch himself as he didn't want to slow down too much. "You be careful, that move can be deadly." Sarah looked at him. "I'm ready to take that chance." Then Sarah rolled them over. Chuck laid on back. As Sarah collapsed on top of him. The morning was perfect as they woke up in each others' arms.
Castle
Sarah went ahead with her mission bag to keep suspicions down, as Chuck texted Sarah to see if she wanted some coffee and to make up for not accepting her coffee that she brought him days before. Chuck looked at his phone. "Just bring something."
Chuck hoped that this time he'd get his kiss but when Chuck returned, he sees Bryce right there leaning in for a kiss. He walked away dropping his bag and their coffee on the table. Only hours before she was kissing him. Sarah pulled away and slaps him as Chuck walks by and sees her hand fly across Bryce's face. "We are done, we have been over for a long time and don't ever do that again."
Sarah walked off after Chuck. "Chuck!"
"I heard you."
She knew she let it happen again. "I'm sorry. Chuck!"
Chuck turned to face her, with open arms. "We're good."
Sarah ran into his arms. "These lips, are mine."
"Yes sir." As she kissed him softly, she pressed her lips firmly to his to make sure he knew she that she was his. They held each other as Chuck carried her with one hand around her waist into the back room. Chuck watched as Sarah kicked the door closed with her heel. Chuck held her tight as they kissed and remained close. They had their moment till they heard "Let's go! Casey's voice roaring through Castle.
They walked back and let go of their hands and joined Casey and Bryce. Sarah grabbed her coffee and passed Chuck his as Casey dropped some files down. Beckman walked through to join them. "Team I got word that Pablo has moved and we need to find him. We hope to locate him so he can lead us to the Elders. Juliette has been released and we have a tail on her. Von Hayes will have to wait. I need you to go now. I have a jet waiting."
Chuck and Sarah looked at each other. "Is there a problem Chuck?"
"No ma'am."
"Ok then head to the airport. The jets leaves, in one hour."
Casey headed to the armoury and Bryce walked over to Sarah as Sarah grabbed her mission bag. Sarah wanted to know why he still wasn't getting it. "I guess the Anderson's are back on."
Sarah turned to face Beckman. Giving her a 'are you serious look'?
"Agent Larkin."
"Yes General."
"I feel that resuming your role as it was weeks ago will give us the upper hand. They know that you are single so bringing in a new relationship at this point will not work. So, Agent Walker coming back with you as a girlfriend or wife will not work this time. I will have you, Agent Walker and Chuck be a couple and Casey will provide back up." Sarah nodded. "Yes General."
Bryce not thrilled as he walked past Chuck. Bryce finally realized that it was over between Sarah and him. Chuck grabbed his gear and few tranq guns and followed them out the back.
*************************************************************************The jet took off Sarah got up and headed back to join Chuck. Sarah sat across from him not to make so obvious, that they were together. Bryce turned in his seat and looked back. Chuck doesn't look up. Sarah slips her hand over to him as he finally grabs it. Sarah whispers, 'Hi'. Chuck smiles.
They arrive in Albuquerque as Casey checks over the car that was left for them. He runs his hands up and under the front wheel and finds the keys. He unlocks the doors as the team loads the vehicle and take off. Chuck was used to this routine. Grab car find safe house or hotel set up surveillance, sit and wait. Then Chuck would flash and repeat flash and repeat. But as they arrived Casey gets an envelope at the front desk. He opens it up and sees the new mission plans. The team look at the changes and head to their rooms. Chuck has his own room for the first time, and he grabs his suit. 'Poolside surveillance was never an option'. Sarah slipped into her room and grabbed her bag and pulled out her bikini's. She held them up. One red and one blue. She walked over to the phone. "Hello. Suite 1412 please." Chuck grabbed a towel and heard his room phone. "Hello?"
"Red or blue."
"Red or blue?"
"Yes."
"Red or blue. Depends on why."
"Ok more or less."
"Blue."
"Ok bye."
Chuck not sure what that was about but he grabbed his sunglasses and slipped out of his room. Casey opted to wear a short sleeve button down shirt and cotton pants and sit by the pools bar. Chuck walked up to him as they reached the pools entrance. Chuck looked at Casey's wardrobe. "Very beach like."
"Well someone has to be ready in case someone runs."
Chuck looked up and saw Bryce already flirting with the ladies.
"Chuck?" Turning back to see where Sarah was. Casey headed to the bar. Chuck's mouth dropped at what she was wearing. Sarah walked past him wearing her blue bikini and a shawl wrapped around her waist and grabbed his hand and turned them around. She dragged him passed the pools entrance and slipped into a utility closet. Chuck walked in then was pushed against the door. "You like?"
"What's not to like?"
Chuck ran his fingers across her stomach. As Sarah kissed him. "I want you in my bed, but we can't take that chance." As Chuck continued to kiss her, Sarah looked at Chuck then placed his hands on her hips. "Here?" Sarah smiled. Chuck grinned and grabbed her bikini bottom straps and pulled, releasing its hold then kissed her chest. Sarah reached behind his back and slid her hands into his shorts. Chuck picked her up and leaned against the small shelf. Sarah used her heels to push Chuck shorts further down his leg. Chuck tossed her bottoms to the side as they became one. They knew that it was just the two of them. Sarah held on as Chuck did his thing. It was more than she was expecting. How he was making her feel. Sarah had to keep kissing him to keep him quiet, but she did it to keep her quiet as well. Chuck moved in ways that made her raise her legs, so she had her feet laying flat against the back of the door. Chuck slowed down and continued kissing her as they finished. Chuck stood back gently bringing Sarah legs downward. He pulled his shorts up and held onto her bottoms as she slipped them back to tie them together. Chuck tried to help her with her top but got distracted. "Let me."
Chuck smiled as Sarah rearranged the girls.
She kissed him again as he reached for the door. "You feel better."
"This wasn't a pity sex thing again was it?"
"No, it's that I couldn't wait." Sarah stopped him before he slipped out. "Chuck one more thing. I need to hear that you forgive me. I need to hear you say those words. I hurt you and I'm sorry." Chuck turned and looked into her eyes. "Do you forgive me for leaving?"
"Yes. I forgive you." Sarah leaned into and kissed his lips. It was the way she hoped it would turn out. Chuck smiled and grabbed her hand and headed down the hall.
They headed out towards the pool and found a spot to drop their towels and they both jumped into the water.
