On and On It Goes: Weekday edition
Monday
Laura dodged and flipped around as Doc Ock tried to swipe at her. She felt the man's new adamantium arms slashing into her shoulder as she tried to dodge another arm. The cut healed quickly as she leapt over the villain tangling up his arms in the process. She heard a familiar thwip as webbing tightened up around the villains tangled arms.
In front of Laura was her amazing husband Spider-Man or as she knew him Peter Parker. Peter was just smirking under the mask and telling Doc Ock a terrible joke when Adrian Tombs Aka The Vulture flew down the street heading towards her husband.
Laura jumped up on Doc Ocks tangled arms right onto where peter had webbed them up to give herself some balance. Peter could tell what was coming with his spider-sense as he called it, he could tell what Laura was thinking, they'd been together so long that no words needed to be communicated. Peter flipped in the air at the last possible second and blinded Vulture in the eyes. Laura then jumped off doc Ock and towards Tombs claws out, she dug her claws into his wings and dragged them down. Using the force from the launch Vultures momentum collided with Laura and the two fell to the ground Vultures wings were completely severed off and with a swift kick in the head he was out.
"Spider-Man and his amazing wife 2, dumb bad guys 0", said Spider-Man. Laura turned to give him a roll of the eyes but smirked as she did it. Peter's jokes were very bad though they had their own Parker charm to them.
Maybe this week wouldn't be so bad.
Tuesday
Laura thought today couldn't get any worse. She was missing an arm and everything hurt like hell, she felt her bones and organs reforming in her body and it hurt every single time. Today was supposed to be a right for mutant rights. Everything was going great until the purifiers showed up, anti-mutant extremist who wanted nothing more than to eradicate her kind. The X-Men were there to join the march and also be there in case something went wrong. Everything was going great until the explosions started.
Laura had jumped on a bomb to stop anyone near her from getting hurt. Her arm flew off from stray shrapnel but most of the damage was on her torso. She healed quickly but what she never told anyone was that regenerating organs and shifting bones hurt like hell. Laura got up more pissed off then hurt and looked for her arm.
Purifiers ran up and tried shooting at her but she dealt with them swiftly, cutting their guns and nocking the men unconscious. She had come a long way from the woman who killed an enemy on site. Peter had rubbed off on her. She found her arm down the street and started putting it back in place for the healing factor to kick in. She heard webs hit building as Peter swung towards the march turned terrorist attack trying to help those who needed saving.
Laura let out the two claws on each end and ran towards the purifiers. Taking and incapacitating them in anger but not killing them. She would slash at tendons, knee caps or their weapons to make them defenseless. These men and women hated her for being born different, she wasn't a mutant in the traditional sense but she was mutant non the less. She had a responsibility to help her people and try to create a better life for them and herself.
Wednesday
Laura hated waiting for Peter. He was a super hero sure and so was she, but there were nights when he went alone and Laura was afraid of the day when he did not come home. She tugged at her blankets and hot cocoa as she watched the evening news. She heard the window open and Peter crawled through.
He was covered in bruises and cuts, which meant a long night of disinfecting and stiches for her. He took of the Spider-Man shirt and old scars were showing with the new ones. Laura grabbed her first aid kit from under the couch and patted the seat next to her.
"Peter Benjamin Parker you better have a reasonable explanation for worrying me", she said in a tone that said Peter might want to choose his words carefully. He sat down next to her and Laura began nursing her wounded husband.
"Well it started with Shocker robbing a bank, which in this day and age who even does that?! He didn't take long to beat but then… well Felica showed up," Peter winced as Laura pressed hard on a cut with rubbing alcohol. He had in fact said the wrong thing.
Felica Hardy was an ex of Peters, Laura and Felica did not get along. The first time the two had met Laura nearly killed Felica. Black Cat knew how to push Laura where it hurt and it made her upset but mostly angry. She would flirt with Peter or get him into some near-death scheme and it terrified Laura that she would lose him.
"She needed help tracking something Wilson Fisk had taken from her and she needed my help. We went and there were a bunch of New York's criminal underground…", he continued on with the story of how Peter and Felica almost brought the entire underbelly of New York on them. It was a lot of mob bosses and hitmen, nothing Spider-Man couldn't handle but with Felica things could go 50-50.
Laura finished the last of the bandages and kissed him on the cheek wrapping her arms around him. She took in his scent, how his heartbeat sounded. She didn't want to lose him, she was scared of being alone and forgotten by those she loved.
Laura held Peter until the two of them fell asleep holding each other, neither one wanting to let the other go.
Thursday
Peter hated days like today, he whispered the names under his breath. All the one that had died because of him.
Uncle Ben
Gwen Stacy
Harry Osborn
Mary Jane Watson
Laura walked with him to each grave carrying a handful of roses one for each grave, first up was his Uncle Ben. The man whose death catapulted Peter on his great responsibility. Peter and May talked so much about Ben, how kind and gentle he was how he would always help those who needed it, and the phrase that shaped herself and Peter. With great power there must also come great responsibility.
"Hey Uncle Ben I know its been awhile," Peter said quietly "Aunt May sends her love and she wants you to know that we miss you every day. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you or what you've taught me." He brushed the name plate and just stood there for a long time silent.
Next up was Gwen and Harry, he lost them both to Norman Osborn at different times in his life. Gwen died when she was captured by Norman as The Green Goblin. He threw her off the bridge and Peter was young and not as experienced; he made a mistake and Gwen died. Harry, Normans son died when he took up the goblin mantle after Norman had died, but doing so caused his own goblin formula to kill him.
Laura didn't listen in on this conversation she was already walking towards the final grave for them.
Mary Jane Watson
She was Peter's girlfriend just before he got with Laura. She never knew about MJ until recently when she had found Peter up in Aunt May's attic with a bunch of old pictures and making a tape recording for her. She didn't ask on how she died all she knows that before he came to Xavier's was that he quit being Spider-Man for a while.
Peter caught up to Laura and said more words. How he was sorry for missing her plays, for not getting there in time to save her. Laura heard sobs from Peter as he told his former love that he was sorry. Laura went up behind him and said four simple words.
"It's not your fault"
She squeezed his hand, he was always so hard on himself. When they had started living together Peter would miss dates or appointments for work. He always was mad himself for things that he couldn't control.
"They wouldn't want you to feel so much weight on your shoulders. Let me take some of the load off them Peter…please"
Peter took his wife's hand and they walked out of the cemetery. He would never stop feeling guilty about losing those he loved. Peter had a responsibility to protect those in the city and those he loved. Now he didn't have to do it alone.
Friday
Friday was Laura and Peter's date night, the two would dress up and go dancing, bowling, movies, dinner which was usually pizza. However, the young husband and wife duo felt like patrolling because what says I love you then trying not to let the each other die.
Peter swung around the city with Laura on his back with her arms wrapped around his neck. Their date night so far had included a few attempted muggings, a bank robbery. All in all and eventful night for them, they were going to wrap it up and get something to eat when more sirens blared a few streets down.
"You wanna go one more round of Spider-Cop and Wolver-Cop sweetheart?" Peter said, as he swung towards the sirens. Laura rolled her eyes at his joke and gave a big sigh.
"Last crime of the night and then pizza," Laura replied.
A police car skidded and rolled over on the street as gunfire erupted on the streets below. Spider-Man and Wolverine landed on the streets bellow to come face to face with Rhino. Laura let her claws out and charged and the big man in a rhino costume. Peter webbed the villain's leg but rhino easily tore them off. He charged toward Laura horn pointing towards her. She could hear Peter switching web fluid to counter act the Rhino's thick hide.
So Laura improvised and started dodging and rolling out of the way of Aleksei's charges. She slashed at the thick armor and felt cracks form in his armor. The rhino's skin armor was tough but adamantium cut through most things and was the hardest metal on earth. Laura kept slashing at the armor as Aleski kept charging and throwing things at the two heroes.
Finally, Peter shot out an experimental web fluid he had been working on. The webbing was as strong as glue but with a added bonus, it would slowly decay the armor off Rhino. As the villain charged at them bits of armor and then slowly bigger chunks of the villain's suit came off. Laura came in close to rhino and began cutting into Aleksi's skin, the man tumbled as more and more of the thick hide fell. Peter came swinging in with a swift punch to the jaw and just like that fight was over.
Laura and Peter were up on the roof of a local pizza place not far from their apartment. They were tired, sore, but together. Peter handed her a slice of pizza and laughed.
"We always have interesting date nights don't we Laura? We can't ever seem to have a night to ourselves can we," Peter asked. Laura just smiled
She finished her pizza and wrapped her arms around him. "Then why don't I get you out of that suit and we can have time to ourselves." Laura whispered the last words into his ear where only he could hear.
The two of them didn't get much sleep that night after they got home.
Authors note: Igot the idea for this story with a song about Wolverine called On and On hence the name. I highly recommend listening to it while reading. Hope you all have a good day and don't forget to love each other. I'd love some ideas or recommendations for chapter ideas.
