*So I decided to go with 'The Strength of a family' for the title, because this storm I have in store for them will take strength to overcome. Here's chapter 2!*
Chapter two: parental advice
The next morning, the rain continued to come down, this time in a heavy downpour. Bonnie was at school and her parents were at work, so the toys were doing their own things. Rosetta sat by the window, watching the rain. Bo looked up at her daughter.
"Hey Woody, come here a minute." She said as the cowboy walked over. "Does Rose seem a little depressed today?"
"You know, I was thinking the same thing. Shall we divide and conquer?" Woody asked playfully.
"Maybe just go in easy on this one, honey." Woody nodded and then followed her to the desk. The two of them climbed up and walked over to the sad girl. Bo stepped forward. "Rose, sweetheart, may we join you?"
"Yeah, sure, I guess." Rose said, eyes still out the window. Woody looked at Bo and they each sat beside her.
"Are you alright, honey?" Woody asked.
"I'm fine."
"Is everything going well with you and Owen?" Bo asked.
"What? No. I mean, yes. Everything is fine with us. We're good, I swear."
"Okay, okay, easy whirlwind." Woody said, laughing. He sat back, watching the rain. Bo did the same. Rosetta looked at them and sighed.
"Can, can I ask you guys something? It's kind of random." Her parents turned to her, ready to listen. "When you adopted me, how did you know that I was the one you wanted? Like how did you know you were sure?" Both of her parents were taken back by her question. Woody looked at Bo.
"She was right, that is a pretty random question. Woody said, rubbing his forehead. Well I, I don't exactly...you, you want to take this one, darling?" Bo looked at him, thought for a moment, and then turned back to Rosetta.
"It starts with a look. She said. You look at a child and instantly see their life flash before your eyes. You see them interacting with you, growing up, becoming their own person, fulfilling their purpose. With that one look, you know."
"So with one look, you knew that I'd be a good choice for you?" Rose asked.
"Well that, and we got to get to know you. Woody said. But even I knew once I saw you, I knew you were the right choice."
"Why are you asking, hon?" Bo asked. Rosetta brought her knees to her chest.
"Owen and I talked about one day adopting. I want to start a family with him, but I don't know if I have what it takes to be a good mother."
"Oh my dear, Bo said, pulling her close. Every mother feels that way. Why, before you came along, when your father brought up the idea of someday taking care of our own kid, I'll be honest. I was terrified."
"Really? You were?"
"Oh yes. I didn't think I could do it. But your father, uncle and later on, your aunt, all convinced me that I would make an amazing mom. It's hard at first, honey, but hear me when I tell you it's the most amazing, rewarding thing in the world." Bo took her daughter's hands. "You would be a terrific mom, Rose. I know it, your father knows it, everyone in this room knows it."
"She's right, darling. You would be a fantastic mom. Woody said. And if you needed any help at all, you could always come to us or your aunt and uncle. No matter when you and Owen decide to adopt, we'll be there."
"Always." Bo said. Rosetta beamed at her parents.
"Thanks guys. I love you both so much." She kissed her mom's cheek, and then her dad's and hugged them both. Suddenly a bright flash of lightning lit up the sky, followed by a loud thunder clap. Rosetta jumped, as did her mom.
"That storm is getting worse by the second." Bo said, holding Rose tight.
"Not to worry, girls. As long as we're inside, we're safe." Woody said, extending his arm out to both of them. He pulled them close and they continued to sit by the window, talking until Bonnie came in to go to sleep.
*Next chapter, the storm hits! I'm nervous thinking about it and I haven't even written it yet! AH!*
