*Childhood girl, thank you for the story suggestion. I definitely want to do that, as well as how Jack and Carl became friends. Okay so here is where Woody gets free, with some complications along the way.*
"Alright, let's run through the plan again." Buzz said. "Owen and I will try to pull the blade from the top. Slinky and Buttercup, you will make sure the blade comes out smoothly. Once you see that it's fully out, yell to Miles and Nick and they will pull Woody out. Are we clear?"
"Yes sir!" Buttercup said.
"We got it, mister Lightyear!" Miles shouted. Buzz smiled and went over to Woody.
"How are you doing, buddy?" The cowboy looked up at him, his eyes tired and half open.
"I, I'm okay. Ha, have the girls re, returned yet?"
"Not yet, sheriff, but they will." Buzz gripped his shoulder. "They are going to find her, Woody. Just give them time. We're going to start getting you out now, okay?" Woody nodded. "Alright. Owen, let's get in position."
"On it, Buzz." Owen said. Together they climbed up the wall of debris. Owen grabbed the bottom and Buzz grabbed the top. "On three. One, two, three!" Together they pulled on the blade. It didn't move at first, but they were able to get it to budge. Slowly they lifted it. Down below, Slinky and Buttercup watched the blade move.
"Easy. Take it slow." Buttercup said.
"A little more. Almost there." Slinky said. Buzz and Owen pulled it up a little more when the debris wall began to shift.
"Hey! Whoa!" Potato Head yelled.
"Buzz, Owen, hold it for a minute. The wall shifted!" Hamm said. They stopped and Buzz looked over the side.
"How much did it shift?"
"Not much, but every time you move the blade, the wall will shift!" Buttercup said.
"We have to speed this up before that wall falls!" He went back up with Owen and they lifted the blade, faster this time.
"That's it, almost there. Slinky said. It's out! Miles, Nick, pull him out now!" As he said that the wall shifted again.
"Let's do this, Nicky!" Miles said. Each boy took hold of Woody's arms and quickly pulled. As they pulled, Woody moaned, biting his lip. The boys continued to pull until finally they got the cowboy free. Nick and Miles landed hard on the ground. As the wall caved in. Woody screamed in full fledged agony.
"Ah! Ow! Ah, ow!" He screamed. Buzz and Owen rushed over to him, helping him sit up.
"Woody! It's okay, buddy. You're..." Buzz began to say when Owen tapped his arm.
"Um, Buzz. Look." Buzz looked down and gasped. The sheriff's leg had been cut off at the knee.
"My leg. Woody said. My leg is gone."
"Calm down, partner. It's probably under all the debris."
"I can look for it." Cody said.
"Cody, no. That pile is still unstable. No one can fit under it." Owen said.
"I can fit! Back in a jiffy!" He rushed to the pile and crawled down under a small opening. He was gone for about five minutes before he crawled back out, clutching Woody's leg in his hand. "Found it! It was stuck on a piece of metal roofing. It must have gotten caught when you were pulling him out."
"Oh no!" Cora and Lucy cried.
"Not to worry, kids. I've h, had so many limbs come undone in the past. They are sim, simple fixes. Ah, ah! Ow." Woody groaned, holding both his sides.
"Yeah, I would try not to move too much, partner. Buzz said. The blade went through and through, so both your sides have deep cuts in them."
"Ugh, sometimes I wish I did, didn't have a cloth body. I would much rat, rather have a hard exterior."
"Hard exteriors aren't always great, I'm afraid. Even the best plastic can still bend." Woody looked at him and Buzz pointed to his knee.
"Oh. I'm sorry, buddy."
"Ah, no need to worry about me. I'll be alright. Come, on, let's get you on your...foot." Woody glared at him, making his best friend smile. He and Owen helped Woody up and guided him up and out of the ravine. Just as they were about to start walking, they heard the sound of galloping and someone yelling.
"Buzz! Buzz!" The space ranger looked up and saw Jessie riding on Bullseye. He left Woody with Owen and ran to her, helping her down. "You got him out. Where is his foot? Nevermind, tell me later. Is he strong enough to ride on Bullseye?"
"He has two large cuts on both of his sides and his foot was sliced off. I don't think he will enjoy a bumpy ride. Buzz said sternly. Why, what is it?" Jessie opened her mouth to say something when Woody said her name.
"Jessie? Di, did you find her? Is she okay?" He asked. Jessie looked past her husband at her brother. Her lip quivered, but she took a deep breath and stood tall.
"Yes. Yes Woody, we did find her." She said, taking a step forward. "But, she's hurt badly and...I need you to come with me, right now."
"She's not...oh god. No. Jess, No! Te, tell me she isn't...No, No!" He began to hyperventilate. Owen tried to calm him down, but it was Jessie who dashed to his side and took his hand.
"Hey, breathe. Breathe, Woody." He did as she said, eventually calming down. "Good. That's good, bro. Bo is alive, okay? She is alive. Her injuries are severe and she doesn't have a lot of time left. She asked me to come and bring you to her. Rosetta is with her now, but she wants you there as well. She wants all of us there, but you, she needs to know that you are alive. She needs to see you, Woody. That's what she really wants right now." Woody took several, deep breaths.
"There, there isn't anything else we can do for her?" Jessie shook her head.
"As I told Rose, if there was even the smallest thing I could do for her, it's not going to help. She is dying, and she knows it. Which is why we have to go to her, now. Are you going to be okay riding with me on Bullseye?" Woody closed his eyes as tears began to form. Finally, he sighed and nodded. "Okay, good. Let's hurry. We can't waste anymore time." Owen and Buzz helped Woody get on Bullseye and Woody held onto Jessie as they carefully, but quickly rushed back the route she had come from, praying that they would not be too late.
*Next chapter will be the goodbyes. :(
