When Kirishima opened his eyes all he saw was darkness, with the exception of the small red blinking light of his alarm clock. He wasn't sure what had woken him up as the room was completely silent, he looked over at his alarm clock and saw that it was only 2:58 AM, way too early to get up. Kirishima decided to say screw it and go back to sleep; he knew there was going to be a big training session in All Might̓s class and he needed sleep.
Kirishima wasn't sure what god he had pissed off lately since suddenly his pillow felt like rocks and the covers were now too hot and lumpy, but way too cold when he took them off, even through his sweatpants. When he finally got comfortable and was just about to blissfully lose consciousness and fall asleep he suddenly got the need to have water, he swallowed a bit but stopped short when his throat was so dry it hurt.
He sighed and swung his legs off the side of his bed as he sat up, tossing the covers to the side. Kirishima decided not to bring his phone flashlight as the kitchen wasn't far, and he didn't want to see any bright light so he could easily get back to sleep. He gently opened his door to not make any noise so no one else would wake up, and started down the hallway, hand on the wall guiding him down to the stairs.
Kirishima hated using the stairs. But alas he had no choice as the elevator was turned off somehow after 10, not to be turned back on until 7. It was always so cold in there, the stairs themselves were solid concrete, therefore making you even colder when you walked up or down them. The staircase was narrow and had no windows all the way up.
It was quiet.
It was so quiet.
So. Very. Quiet.
All except for Kirishima's slow footsteps, padding down the stairway and the slight creak of the cold metal handrail.
Kirishima would never admit it, but complete silence freaked him out, it always made him feel like someone was there, just out of sight. This time was no different as his mind swirled with different scary possibilities that could go down, and no one would ever know.
He tried to focus on walking down the stairs but couldn't shake the feeling in his gut that was telling him something was wrong.
He felt as if someone was watching him, gliding down the stairs behind him, not making a sound. He tried to discreetly pick up the pace and walk just a little faster, trying to convince himself no one was there. A shiver went down his spine and the hair on the back of his neck stood up in an instant, he jumped down the last step and looked back up as he turned to go down more and saw nothing but darkness. His eyes were adjusting to the dark but he still saw nothing, it just creeped him out even more.
How long had he been in this damn staircase?
He continued down the stairs at a fast pace, constantly checking behind him. Kirisihima knew that no one would be there but that one part of his brain that told him what if someone was? kept his legs moving fast.
How many steps could there really be?
He visibly flinched back and stopped as there was a creak in the stairs above him, small pieces of cement falling to ground in front of him. He stood still, like a deer in headlights before he started down again, almost jogging down the stair way, now skipping a few steps.
He had been here for way too long.
While he continued down his mind suddenly focused on how deathly silent it was.
It was quiet.
It was so quiet.
So. Very. Quiet.
All except for Kirishima's rapid footsteps, padding down the stairway and the slight creak of the cold metal handrail.
The slight creak of the cold metal handrail.
The cold metal handrail that Kirishima was no longer holding onto.
The handrail that Kirishima was never holding onto.
Why wasn't this damn staircase ending?
He knew there was someone there. No he didn't, he was being silly.
Why was the staircase stretching and getting farther away?
He knew someone was behind him. No there wasn't, it's just paranoia.
Why hasn't he reached the bottom level yet?
He knew there was someone breathing down his neck. No, that's just the draft from the door.
Why hasn't he gotten to the door-
He spotted the door to the bottom level when he opened his eyes -when had he closed them?- and rushed towards it but stopped short when he was just about to burst through, the thought of waking everyone else spinning in his mind. Instead he turned his back to the closed door and gently leaned against it, palm and fingers curling around the handle.
He looked up the stairs where he had just come from, no one was there. Of course no one was there, his mind was just playing tricks on him. But yet, that sick feeling that something was wrong continued to swirl in his gut.
Kirishima shook his head and pushed the door open, stepping out. The back of his mind shouting at him for turning his back to the darkness of the cold stairway, so he quickly but silently closed the door and breathed a sigh of relief.
But that breath of relief was suddenly sucked back in, an almost choked gasp coming from Kirishiamas throat that he forced not to make a sound. He had spotted a light scanning over the common room slowly, as if someone was looking around with a flashlight.
Someone was looking around, like they were seeing it for the first time.
Like someone was here for the first time.
Someone that didn't belong here.
Kirishima's mind came to a screeching halt as he realized this. He turned his head to the light slowly. He knew he had to do something, confront this person. Whoever it was.
Cmon, he was training to be a hero. He could handle a small break in, he had been attacked by villains like 4 times already, this was nothing.
Kirishima pressed his back up against the wall and tiptoed down the hallway towards the unknown person. When he reached the corner leading to the common room and kitchen, still not making a sound, he carefully peaked his head around the corner to get a look at who was there. He knew he should've just went the other way to get but hey, he was just a highschooler, he's not that smart.
The first thing that Kirishima noticed was that this person, whoever they are, wasn't very tall. Actually they were quite short, like shorter than Kirishima, so they are either around his age or just….really freakin short.
The second thing he picked up on was that this guy was wearing some kind of suit, when they turned he could see a tie briefly swing into the light. They had some kind of dress shoes on, freshly polished from the shine they reflected.
The next thing he saw was the familiar tuft of curly green hair.
Oh thank God, it's just Midoriya.
It was that thought and the overwhelming relief he felt that out weighed the rational part of his brain that had thoughts of:
What is he doing?
Why is he down here just looking around?
What is he doing!
Why is he wearing a suit?
What is he doing?!
It's like 3 in the morning, why is he awake?
What is he doing?!-
"Midoriya..?"
