Hello! Guess who is back?

Everyone already knew they were endgame. Nobody questioned it as they seemed like one person at times: He either talked maturely and wisely like she would do or she would crack unfunny jokes time to time and be as competitive when training. Not that they didn't have those qualities before getting together, but comparing them showed how instead of shying away they uplifted each other to the point they were their best.

The night was oddly calming. Soon Sozin's Comet would come and they would have to hide themselves to give Aang more time training. But what would they do? Suki sure could take a lot of firebenders by herself, as shown in the prison riot, but him? He already failed in the black sun attack. He seemed sure that he had to do something…but what?

As everybody rested after the firework show, he stayed outside in the beach, close to the ocean. The cold breeze and shining stars made him remember how warm the weather was in contrast to the South Pole, something he had forgotten until now. War was really close to ending: It was a win or die trying after all.

Sitting in the sand with his legs stretched, the water came back and forth touching his legs. Katara was right when talking at how water can be therapeutic for them: This day was the exception as it sadly, didn't make him feel better at his lack of position on the upcoming war. He laid completely in the sand with his arms behind his neck.

As his eyes looked to the sky he searched for the moon: she was shy today, not wanting to show herself. At least this night, it was the best thing that happened, as having her stare all night would remind him another failure in his life. He didn't want to dig harder on the already deep wound she left him after passing, remembering that day only until Suki came up to him and his love for her became mostly clear…even after refusing to kiss her.

"What could I do to help them?" He thought out loud, star gazing. His eyes were glued to the sky letting himself enjoy the show. He lifted his hand, almost as if trying to grab one for himself. He was always fond of the sky and it's colors, liking most of the nights back home.

Was he homesick? What even was home today?

He put his hand back behind his neck again, smiling at the first memories he could remember: When he tried to fight his dad to prove he was grown up and fell flat on the snow or when he didn't let anybody touch Katara when she was born until she needed to change her diaper. He laughed at how awkward Gran Gran's sex education talk had been.

"Are you okay?" A soothing voice spoke close to him.

"Shit Suki" Sokka exclaimed frightened. She giggled at his reaction and looked down to him.

"Sorry?" She smiled playfully, aware how startled he was.

He smiled back, patting his hand at his side for her to sit. She sat with her legs close to her, looking at where she thought Sokka was looking.

"Are you waiting for her?" She said without looking at him, her voice still sounded dreamy to him. He sat down and put his head on her shoulder, looking at the direction she was indicating to confirm his suspicions.

"No" He replied. "I was star gazing today" He showed her with his finger. Suki eyes followed it, replying with a small noise. She rested her head with his. Not looking away from the sky, her hand shyly searched for his. Sokka looked at her hand clumsily touching the sand, smirking before helping reaching for her hand and squeezing it.

She relaxed, not realizing she was tense at all until he touched her. Minutes passed in silence until he stood up, almost letting herself fall, but without letting go of her hand. She looked at him a bit annoyed until his eyes looked at hers: They shined brighter than she had ever seen them. She stood up with him, following him.

They got close to where Appa was sleeping peacefully, making Suki confused. They reached him and Sokka whispered to him, making the flying bison yawn and wake up, ready to fly.

"Sokka what are you doing?" Suki asked as he stretched his hand again.

"C'mon! We are only going to be there a minute" He said trying to ease his girlfriend. She hesitated at first, but seeing him make puppy eyes made her roll her own, smiling. Suki got on Appa and Sokka followed.

"Yip yip buddy" Sokka said

"Where are we going?" Suki asked, sitting comfortably beside him.

He didn't answer as Appa gained more height. Suki looked around the sky, a bit impressed at how dark but clear the sky seemed to look. The cold breeze hit both of their faces, making them scoot closer to keep warm.

The water below only made Suki wonder where he was trying to go. His hands were steady at holding the rope, but his eyes were now looking at her. She smiled back, trusting his plan or idea at mind.

"What were you thinking about?" She asked resting her head on her hand.

"How pretty you look under the clouds" He replied, dreamily looking at her.

She giggled, happy at how he made her feel. She pressed the question, as that was not the answer she was expecting.

"I meant back at the beach, I saw you for a while before talking to you" She said in a soft voice, almost acknowledging how private that moment might have been.

"Wow, you missed me that much?" Sokka replied chuckling following a sad sigh. Suki expression softened in worry. He saw her worried face and gave a half smile, turning his head to watch ahead at the sky.

"I…I was reflecting on the events that will unfold." He said.

Suki kept quiet, waiting for him to continue. His hands trembled as he gripped harder the reins, calming himself.

"I…feel a little bit down on myself. Even after all the experience we had fighting I…." His voiced cracked a bit, making Suki place a hand on his fist. He looked back at her with tears threatening to form. "We have lost a lot of people on our way. Cultures, innocent people, my mom, P…." He stopped talking losing his breath.

Suki continued to comfort him, guessing he was referring to the moon princess. Judging by his reaction at the theater she didn't want to press the conversation yet. Rather focusing on the time they had left before knowing if they would live another day. She caressed his forearm as Sokka tried to keep talking, sharp breaths replacing his voice.

"Princess Yue. And I almost lost you too…The plan at the boiling rock worked but if…"

"No "but if's"" Suki interrupted. "We are here today, flying with a sleepy Appa. Your plan worked" She said reassuringly, attempting to cheer him up.

"Suki…I know you can protect yourself. Very well. But the thought of losing you crushed me and…and it made another plan fail" He admitted

Suki's face showed amazement for a moment but shifted to her worried face again.

"Appa…could you put us down to talk a little bit?" Suki asked the bison, who only growled and continued flying. "Alright…. Sokka. Hand me the reins please" Suki told him softly, as she would maneuver it better for them to land.

"I'm alright! No need to landing. I want you to see something." Sokka said ignoring her. Suki looked at him confused and gestured him to continue talking with her hand.

"The day of the black sun Azula…Azula told me how you were her prisoner" Sokka said lowering his voice, almost as if he wanted to stop talking "Her telling me you lost your hope on me made me…made me think the worst. That I failed you too"

Suki was a bit awestruck at how he was calmly telling him the story even if his nose was red of the constipation and his eyes were tearful. She remembered how stupid she felt the day she said Sokka's name out loud, fearing for him. Even if he was safe with the avatar, she didn't want to give her more hints of who traveled with him.

"I always knew you'll look for me" She said scratching his hair. "It would take time, of course. Keeping the avatar safe is no easy task" She continued, trying to comfort him.

"But…I lost it. I thought you di...you were gone too. I wanted to kill that… that monster…but she wouldn't tell me where you were" Sokka replied looking at her, silent tears rolling on his face.

Suki kissed his cheek and brushed his tears. Sokka continued to look at her with sadness and regret.

"You…you are my new home Suki" He said as tears kept flowing "And…I never thought I would feel the same again after seeing Yue die on me"

Suki felt her heart drop to her stomach. "What a horrible thing to go through" She thought, ignoring the lurking green eyed monster completely.

"I kept thinking how to help on the next attack and…I felt a bit lost. I can't protect anybody properly, I definitely can't attack or fight as good as you or Katara do and…my plans all seem to fail. I... I don't know how else can I help you. The most basic trait I thought I had is… is not enough"

"Sokka, enough" Suki said harshly. Sokka looked at her puzzled and a bit hurt.

"What?" He asked dumbfounded

"You are not giving yourself the credit you deserve. Tell me a bit more of princess Yue. You protected her right?"

"Yeah…."He exhaled heavily, turning his face away "They killed the moon spirit and she returned the favor"

"Then you succeeded Sokka. You protected her till the moment she fulfilled her destiny. I'm sure she told you herself" She said placing a hand on his cheek and turning him to face her.

"I guess" He said still not convinced enough

"And…what did you meant at the plan on the day of the black sun? How did you even knew about that?" She asked

"Well… we went to this library at the dessert where this giant owl spirit had the knowledge of the past, present and future so…I searched for the next eclipse" He explained, remembering how big the library was

"See? Who would have thought of that?" Suki said smiling, he smiled back, cheering a little bit.

"The plan still failed, and it made them capture everyone" Sokka replied, his smile fading.

"But… it only failed because they knew beforehand, I'm sure if I…I hadn't lost they wouldn't even know what had hit them" She trailed back, trying not to punish herself badly at losing and accidentally sabotaging the plan

"Well…our friends told us that too" He giggled at how Aang attempted to cheer him.

"See? I'm not the only one saying it! As a warrior and your teacher, you have vastly improved in your fighting skills" She said in a matter of fact tone, fixing his hair.

He giggled, letting himself be pampered by her.

"Sokka, give yourself the credit you deserve. You are the mind of this team most of the time…and even your unexpected plans work! Don't down yourself because they didn't go exactly as planned. A failure is still a lesson" She finished with a wide smile. He smiled back and tightly closed his eyes to stop the tears from falling, he failed as they kept falling faster, prompting him to laugh.

"Sorry…I….I love you a lot" He said, not letting her reply by kissing her. She let herself melt on his lips, leaning on him for support. They pulled back and Sokka made Appa pull down close to another part of the beach that was elevated. He let go of the reins and got off, landing on the grass. She helped Suki down and pointed at the sky.

"Look, there is the star show I wanted to show you" He said looking back at her. Suki looked at the sky in awe, her blue-purple eyes reflecting the lights the stars emanated.

"Wow…." She managed to say as she leaned on her back. Sokka kept staring at her face, happy of showing her something new. He leaned on his back too and looked at the sky, enjoying the rest of the stars that fell from the sky.

As the stars reflected on both of their faces, he held her close to him and she rested on him, their breathing coordinating. He caressed her hair, something that was becoming a habit to do as she laid down on him.

The show ended and a feeling of hope filled his heart. The words Suki told him on their trip finally sinking on his brain. He again lifted his hand and trailed gibberish patterns where the stars were just traveling. Suki looked at his hand without saying anything, letting him be.

"This had to mean something." Sokka thought hugging her tighter. Suki smiled as she heard his heartbeat speed up.

It didn't matter how unsure the future seemed to him. The only thing he knew is that they would be okay, they would win and the world will change forever after it. He looked down at her, who was almost falling asleep on his chest. He smiled, knowing their time like this might end.

"Suki?" He said, moving her softly to not startle her.

"Hmm?" She asked mumbling, too tired to properly speak.

He sighed smiling. "We need to go"

"Right"

A sleepy Suki got off him, Sokka laughed at how her small ponytail was already messed up. She pulled his wolf tail too laughing. As they helped each other up to their feet and to climb up Appa, the dawn arrived. The ride back to the beach was faster than they thought as they landed on the beach. Both brushed Appa's hair thanking him, which he gleefully let himself be patted.

They made their way up to the house, tiredness kicking in faster as they hit the couch, this time Suki being the big spoon. He smiled as his eyelids closed.

"I love you Suki" He murmured.

As the silence replied to him, he relaxed. Being with this extraordinary woman made him a better man and warrior, he was lucky to be with her. That night he knew his role on the war would be by her side, and hopefully, she would stay for life afterwards.

At the moment, he engraved her eyes and the stars in his memory, feeling the sky and her reassuring words will help him achieve a big plan for them to follow on the big day.

So with this chapter we conclude this fanfic. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did writting it!
