The day had finally come for Jade to take her end-of-the-year exams. Unlike Pansy, Jade was excited to take them. The weather was so warm that Jade didn't even bother grabbing her cloak. It was the first hot day they had, they've had warm days and days that were comfortable with a nice breeze in the air but today it was hot . There wasn't a cloud in the sky or a breeze in the air. Jade pulled her hair into a ponytail to try and cool herself off.

"Are you ready?" Pansy asked Jade as she came up behind her and observed herself in the mirror. They would be going into a large classroom with the other Slytherins to take their written exams and then do their practical exams with their teachers.

"Yes," Jade said, finishing her hair and tightening her hair tie. Jade and Pansy made their way out of the dormitory and met with Blaise in the Common Room. The first year Slytherins walked together to the exam room, all of the other classrooms had the students sitting next to somebody but in this class, there were singular desks spaced out in rows. Jade took a seat in the middle of the second row and took a look around as Professor Flitwick started handing out his exam while a large batch of quills floated behind him and placed themselves on top of each desk. Draco was sitting behind her a few seats down, Pansy to her left a few chairs over, and Blaise was right up at the front. Once all of the exams were passed out, Professor Flitwick explained that they would have an hour to complete his quiz. He also explained that they were given a quill that was bewitched with an AntiCheating spell. Jade skimmed over the front page of her exam and then Professor Flitwick gave them the okay to begin. Jade finished it quickly, she brought her exam up to Professor Flitwick and he then had her perform her practical exam where she had to make a pineapple tapdance across a desk. Next was their Astronomy exam. Each exam had the same amount of time, each was relatively around the same number of questions. Her flying exam was the easiest, it was just about how to properly ride your broom and flying safety. Professor McGonagall had them turn a mouse into a snuffbox for their practical exam in Transfiguration. Jade hadn't done anything fancy with her snuffbox, the prettier it was the more extra points McGonagall gave, she focused on performing the transformation correctly and when she did she didn't want to accidentally make a mistake just by trying to make it more appealing. Professor Snape's practical exam was the last one and they had to prepare a Forgetfulness potion. Snape presented a large selection of ingredients on the desk in front of the large classroom and Jade went through the correct ingredients in her head as she chose. Snape was watching the students carefully, Pansy walked up to Jade's side and started gathering her ingredients. Jade noticed Pansy was about to make a mistake, she wanted to direct her towards the right ingredients but Snape would see her, Pansy's hand wavered above a pile of dried nettles and Jade coughed in a fit. Pansy and Snape both looked towards her and Jade apologized and noticed Pansy changing her selection of ingredients. Now that Jade had Snape's attention, Jade grabbed her ingredients and went back to her cauldron. She went through the instructions in her head and prepared the potion, Jade had gone over her Potions guide multiple times and brewed her potion confidently until the end where it cooled in an orange-red color. Snape went around the room once the potions were complete and everyone had brewed them correctly, Snape graced them with a rare smile.

"Well done, Slytherins." He announced and turned his back to them, "That concludes your end-of-the-term exams, you are dismissed." Jade rose from her seat rather abruptly and looked around the room, she met with Pansy and Blaise and the three of them made their way to the Great Hall for dinner. Their exams had been long and Jade felt stiff from sitting at her desk all day. The first-years took their seats at the end of the Slytherin table, closest towards the Professors' table.

"Finally!" Pansy said with a sigh of relief. "Jade," she started as she quickly made herself a plate. "Thank you for helping me at the ingredients table. First, I thought you were just coughing because you swallowed your spit wrong or something," Blaise chuckled and Jade smiled at her. "But, then I saw Millicent grab Valerian Sprigs and I was like, those aren't the right ingredients for a Cure for Boils potion, and I figured out that we weren't making a Cure for Boils we were making a Forgetfulness Potion."

"Good, I was hoping you would get it," Jade told her and Pansy nodded,

"How did your exams go?" Blaise asked them and Pansy rolled her eyes while Jade smiled,

"Good," Jade said at the same time as Pansy mumbled,

"Tedious."

"I'm not worried. What about you, Blaise?" Jade asked and Blaise smirked,

"I wouldn't be surprised if I got top marks."

"Confident, Blaise?" Jade heard a familiar voice and Draco sat down beside her. "That's good."

"How were your exams?" Jade asked him and he shrugged as he reached for a chicken leg,

"As I expected. Now, we just wait a week to know for certain." The results of their exams wouldn't be out until the next week which annoyed Jade a little, she was impatient and wanted to know her marks right away.

"No more studying." Pansy smiled, "I could sing."

"Please don't." Draco grimaced and Pansy tried hitting him from Jade's other side but failed to make contact. Jade glanced up at the Professors' table and noticed that Professor Dumbledore wasn't there that night.

"Where's Dumbledore?" Jade wondered out loud and Pansy and Draco ceased their bickering and looked up, "He's never missed a dinner before." Her friends weren't interested in this though, they turned back to their own dinner and discussions. Jade finished her dinner quietly, only answering others' questions and not asking any of her own.

"I'm sure it's fine." Blaise leaned towards her on their way back to the Common Room for the night, "Maybe he just missed dinner because he was busy with something else, he does run an entire school."

"You're probably right." Jade felt silly for worrying something might've been wrong, "Being Headmaster must be exhausting." Jade groaned.

"Wanna play Wizard's chess?" Blaise asked, making his way over to one of the open game tables.

"Just one game," Jade warned him because she didn't want to play for too long, Blaise could play all night if you let him. Draco was talking with Crabbe and Goyle near the fire and Pansy had gone off with another first-year girl named Ava Lane. Jade personally wasn't a fan, she never had a conversation with her but from what she heard from others and what she'd seen of her, she was a spoiled and annoying girl, no one could stand being by her for longer than a few minutes, no one except Pansy for some reason. Jade had told herself she would only play one game but when she lost she insisted on one more and then when she lost that one she wanted a rematch because she had gotten close to beating Blaise but still she lost.

"You're getting better," Blaise told her but Jade just sighed,

"I'll never beat you."

"I'm sure you will, someday." Blaise began resetting the chessboard and then they both stood from their chairs. It was late now, most of the students had gone to bed but a few lingered still. "I'm going to bed, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah, me too," Jade said goodnight and then went up to the girls' dormitory and quickly fell asleep after her long exam day.
