Summary: With a bit of alone time following their graduation ceremony, Blaine and Sebastian reflect on the year they just experienced and the summer they're about to spend apart.
*Change* This is the last chapter and we have been on quite the journey together.
If you have stuck out the journey, or found this late and binged, and are satisfied…Thank You!
Blaine sat behind the piano on the stage of the empty auditorium. The graduation ceremony had gone off without a hitch. Sebastian's Valedictorian speech was perfect, focusing on making change in the world and doing what makes you happy. Not the usual We are Dalton Boys, let's kick ass in the Ivy League before taking over the world rah-rah bullshit.
Unsurprisingly, the Head Master asked Blaine to perform. What was surprising was that he didn't write an original. Instead he sang The Long and Winding Road by the Beatles. It made sense to him, whether as a simple metaphor for life or a description of the rollercoaster he and his friends had been on the past few months. Also, he wanted to see Sebastian's reaction when he told him his choice, of which there was none. Guess All You Need Is Love was still the only one he had a physical reaction to.
Weird
Once the ceremony was over, almost everyone left Dalton for individual family celebrations. However, he and Sebastian had asked their families to hold off for later in the day. Sebastian was leaving in the morning for his 100 days in Paris and they wanted a little time to themselves first.
"Killer!" Sebastian called out as he entered the auditorium, since Blaine appeared to be lost in thought. It must have been really deep because he didn't get a response until he was sitting on the bench next to him.
"Oh, Bas. I didn't hear you."
"That was pretty obvious. Want to tell me what's going on?"
"It's nothing…"
"Bull shit"
Blaine smiled and kissed Sebastian's cheek. "I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For Saving Myself. For making everything in this relationship about me."
"You…"
"Kurt, the blackmail, Fight Club, Alpha Gay, finding the guys who attacked me, injuring my hands, the Diva-off with Schuester, the fight with my parents and Cooper, New York and Brody, NYADA, Julliard, Rachel, buying the building, taking the plea deal without telling you and of course Nationals. I could go on."
"Hey" he took Blaine's wrist and clasped his ID bracelet. "You're forgetting the most important part of what you said. I got a relationship with you. I also got to see how hard you fought to get where you are now. You, Blaine Anderson, will be attending both Julliard and NYADA in the fall. Plus, you have a wildly successful YouTube channel you turned into a charity AND signed a record deal with a major label AND have a #1 duet with Andre Bocelli in 24 countries AND it is in the Top 10 in the US."
"Again, me…me…me."
"How about I got the first best friend I've ever had? Think about it, Killer. Trent, the baby-faced Warbler, is my best friend."
"That is still a little mind boggling."
"Ya'think? And because you got rid of the old Head Master and Hunter, I got a Senior year. Hell, I went to my Prom instead of sneaking off to Scandals."
"Bas…"
"And I have the best relationship I've ever had with my family, well, not my Mother. But I do blame you for Izzy."
"What do you mean Blame me?"
"If it wasn't for watching how you turn into a pile of goo with your Sweet Baby Cousin Sugar, I would have never tried to bond with an actual baby. They leak really smelly stuff from a lot of different places."
"And now you are head over heels in love with her."
"Damn straight! I want to teach her everything…walk, speak French, play lacrosse, soccer, swim…"
"Swim?"
"I love to swim. Played water polo before lacrosse."
Blaine was genuinely surprised. "Really? You've never mentioned it."
"I didn't? Huh…but if you think of it, the only time we've been swimming was when you surprised me with the trip to Vegas and told me about Brody. My mind was a little fried."
"And we were naked" Blaine laughed then handed him a wrapped package sitting next to him. "Happy Graduation." When nothing happened, he asked "You were expecting a song?"
"Kind of, but that doesn't mean I'm giving this back." Sebastian unwrapped the package and opened the box inside to find a watch with two faces. "It's beautiful, Killer."
"One face is for you and one for me. Since we're in the same place they are set to the same time. When you get to Paris, reset your time and whenever I change time zones this summer, I'll let you know so you can change mine."
"It's perfect. Did you…?"
"Get myself one too? We have matching cuffs and ID bracelets. What do you think?" Blaine paused then asked the question he promised himself he wouldn't. "Are you sure you don't want me to come to Paris, even if only for a few days?"
"We discussed this. With all you're doing, it just doesn't work. What are you going to drop? Cooper and Holly's wedding in Maui? You're Cooper's best man."
"No, but…"
"And Sam…you really think you and Beat are getting out of taking him to Skywalker Ranch now that he's figured out Beat's great-uncle is George Lucas?"
"No, but…"
"And didn't you promise your fans releases of Believer and Sweet Child O' Mine? Don't you have a studio to set-up? Cam is doing a great job with the loft…"
"Anderson Towers"
Sebastian stopped and cocked an eyebrow "Seriously?"
"I gave up, and yes, Cam is doing a great job overseeing the rehab of the building and Mercedes has been working with Jackie's assistant to learn how to handle the business side of the label."
"Can I ask a question?"
"Why I hired Mercedes to be my assistant and didn't sign her to the label?"
"Yeah"
"She wants to earn it like Santana earned her job with your sister…not have it handed to her. Until then, she's happy working at the studio and learning how behind the scenes works. I can't tell you how happy I am she agreed to take the job as my assistant after everything she did the week we were in NYC."
"I'm glad to hear it, this way you can spend your down time working on music. Plus, aren't you doing a week-long dance workshop with Britt and Jake at NYADA?"
"How…? I didn't have a chance to tell you."
"I had a very interesting conversation with Brittany after she sent me the video of the National Cheerleading Association telling Sue she had to give back her championships because of student ineligibility."
"There's video?" Sebastian pulled out his phone and they watched Sue destroy her office.
Even Becky knew to get the hell out of there.
With Brittany slapping Mr. Schue at Nationals, some explanation had to be given. Most accepted she was highly protective of Blaine after he had gotten her tutoring (allowing her to graduate…yay!) and a place at NYADA with full-ride scholarship. Only Rachel, Santana, Quinn, Mike and later, Sam knew the truth and the vow the Warblers made to protect Brittany. HOWEVER, the Unholy Trinity soon believed someone other than the Glee advisor had to be the person who tampered with Brittany's grades and there was only one other competitive team she was on…
The Cheerios
They met with the Warblers' computer super-genius, Doug, and it took him approximately three minutes to find out yes, it was Sue and Brittany's grades weren't the only ones she tampered with. Her's were just the ones where something went wrong and the truth came out. Armed with the information, the former Cheerios unexpectedly waited a day to call the Cheerleading Association.
They wanted Nichole in Lima first.
If she was going to write a book about the early days of the New Directions, she needed to meet bat-shit crazy Sue…and the video Sebastian and Blaine was watching was absolutely bat-shit crazy.
"Tana did say something about the bitch putting her on the bottom of the pyramid too many times." Blaine gave the phone back to Sebastian and asked "You said the call with Britt was interesting. Was it just the video? Because interesting and Brittany can go in a thousand different directions."
"Brittany made the call, but I'm pretty sure all the New Directions girls, Old and New, including Sugar, were there along with Nichole...and tequila."
"Oh god"
"Yeah, evidently Tina, she's Mike's ex, right?" Blaine nodded, a little scared of where the story was going. "She made a spreadsheet of every New Directions pairing and subsequent break-up. They were adding Warblers and the newest couples to play Six Degrees of New Directions. You know, like that game about Kevin Bacon and…"
"I know but I still don't know why Britt called you."
"Somewhere, probably between their fourth and fifth shots, one of the girls realized if my sister someday married her girlfriend, Rachel's bio mom, I would be Rachel's uncle...by marriage. They thought it was the funniest...come on Killer! Not you too."
"It's funny, Bas. Does she get to call you Uncle Sebby?" Sebastian gave him an expression somewhere between a glare and a pout but it still took time for Blaine to catch his breath. "Ok...Ok...what else did she have to say?"
"It was actually very lovely. She wanted to make sure I would be there for Rachel when she's in Paris to see Finn." Since the day she showed up at Dalton with the information on Will Schuester, Sebastian and Rachel had slowly been rebuilding their friendship. Sometimes the easy rapport from before took over their conversations but they knew if they were to reach their goal of Blaine/Santana Best Girl status, they had to put in the work. "You know why she's going to Paris, right?"
"To tell Finn in person about Jesse, which I think is a good idea. I wasn't there for Jesse the Spy but I was front and center for the Prom fight. I was on stage at the time."
"So, before Kurt was crowned Prom Queen?" Sebastian squeezed his hand. "We can't ignore Klaine, Killer. Wes was right."
"I know but…"
Sebastian reached into his pocket and pulled out his gift to Blaine. "Open it."
When Blaine got to the box he hesitated, the size and shape being distinctive for a certain item. "Bas…"
"Open it."
A beautiful platinum band with two diamonds was in the ring box. "Bas…"
"Don't worry, it's not an engagement ring. Brittany doesn't have to start planning our fabulous joint wedding with her and Santana."
Blaine was so shocked he dropped the ring. "What?!" he asked as Sebastian handed back the box.
"Oh, Drunk Brittany kept talking after she asked me to take care of Rachel. She told me all about how you told Santana you would walk her down the aisle at her wedding. Somehow Brittany went from that to me doing the same for her and then, since we're there anyway, we get married too so we have the same anniversary...in the future."
The In the future calmed Blaine but then he remembered the other part of his conversation with Santana. "Did she tell you anything else?"
"You mean how you're going to give Santana your spunk for her little boy? Yeah, and knowing you, you see a kid as well."
Shit! "A little girl with my eyes and smile but long, dark straight hair. Does that scare you?"
"You want her tomorrow?"
"God, no."
"Then yes, to answer the question you're afraid to ask, someday I want kids. Before Izzy I would have never said that but, I do." Sebastian kissed Blaine then got up and walked to the edge of the stage, facing the empty audience. "I envy how clearly you can see the future. I think the reason I can't see mine is my past. It's why I have to go to Paris and face Julien. It's why I need to meet my biological mother's family."
Ok, that last part was new. "Your biological mother's family?"
Sebastian turned back with a huge smile taking over his face. "I didn't find out until this morning but I've known my maternal grandmother my whole life and just didn't know it."
"And you're alright with that?"
"Remember the story I told you of the lady who bakes the Christmas treats for the party my parents throw every year?" Sebastian asked as he rejoined Blaine on the bench. "It's her."
"No way! How did that happen?"
"When my mother died, my grandmother was a widow with six other kids at home. She couldn't take in a newborn. She also didn't blame my parents for what Julien had done so when they offered to adopt me, she agreed. Her only stipulation was she wanted to see me once a year. That's when the idea of Christmas came up and why we had to spend it in Paris…and probably why I like cookies so much."
"Bas, that's amazing. And your dad only told you this morning? Why?"
"He was working on something and didn't want to get my hopes up. You know how Rosa's not going to Paris with Sis because of Cooper's wedding? Marie, that's my grandmother's name, is going to fill in for her. I'll see her every day."
Blaine reached across and hugged him. Sebastian was so happy. His entire aura seemed lighter. For the first time he realized how selfish he was trying to get Sebastian to ask him to come to Paris. And for the first time he realized…
Sebastian was not Kurt. He was not going to leave town and forget about him.
Speaking of forgetting "So, if we're not getting married" Blaine said as they separated "Is there a meaning behind the ring?"
"Look at the inscription."
There were two words. "Fuck you?"
"Yes, Fuck you" Sebastian repeated as he took the ring from the box and held up Blaine's hand. "It goes on your middle finger, and the next time someone like Schuester tries messing with you, you can show them the beautiful ring your wonderful boyfriend got you." Before Blaine could respond, Sebastian reached into his pocket "I have one other gift for you…actually, this one is more for me." Inside the small box was a set of keys.
"I believe you still owe me a blow job in the library."
Blaine didn't want to ask how he got the keys, knowing the answer was most likely Mrs. Alberts and knowing she most likely had to know why Sebastian asked her for them. Instead, he joined their hands and they took one last walk through the halls of the place they would always consider their second home.
On the way to the library, of course.
After all, Blaine had made a promise to Sebastian and a Dalton Boy always kept his word.
Notes:
In the very beginning, after Blaine's Fight Club match with Hunter, Seblaine's "relationship" began with blow jobs. I thought it was only right to bring it full circle.
