A Chance Encounter
Dear Diary,
Man this is pretty nostalgic. I haven't written in you for a couple of weeks now since I've been training pretty hard now. I have mastered most of the aliens from Grandpa's Omnitrix, but I still got worlds to go. My own Anodite side is being slightly neglected, so I need to get back to working on that.
Living in the wild has taken a told on my rations and water supply. I'm almost done with some of my planned meals as it is. I'm a bit cold, but I have my coat on. Maybe if I had some of Heatblast or Swampfire's heating powers on I would be fine. However, if I use too much of my powers, I could knock out for long periods of time. I learned that the hard way when I used too much of Ghostfreak's abilities to hunt.
Jen shivered as she looked up to see the moon being covered by clouds again. The wind blew sharp, cold air around her small frame as she ran to the cave she was staying inside. Ever since the day she fought with Gwen, she managed to make her life out here and survive on her own. Her family must be dirt worried about her abandoning them, but she had to sort some things out with herself.
I hope the Highbreeds haven't caused much trouble since I left. Gwen and Kevin can take care of themselves since both of them have powers. And when they find Grandpa, they will be more powerful. I don't care what happens now, I just want to have some time alone with my thoughts.
She closed her journal and leaned against the wall of the cave. The cold, damp winds caused her to shiver more as her breath showed in front of her. How she wished she was back at home in her nice, warm bed with a burger in her hand and a smoothie on the dresser.
No...I won't give up. I need to master my powers to prove to Gwen that I can handle myself in battle. Without the help of Grandpa's Omnitrix, Gwen's powers, or Kevin's car, and I will show them I can be strong. She thought, pounding her fist against the wall.
A small cry erupted from inside the caverns, making Jen jump in fright. It didn't sound like an animal she would know. Creeping cautiously down the tunnel, she gasped at the sight of an underground oasis of some sort! A small waterfall cascaded fresh water that pooled into a river, plants grew from the rich soil it produced, and sparkling rocks adorned the ground. Jen herself could recognize some gemstones in the soil itself, her eyes shining with glee.
"Wow, I could practically live here! Fresh water, green plants, and it feels a whole lot warmer than being by the entrance of the cave." She said to herself, dropping her bag against a nearby tree. "I wonder what caused all this to happen!"
The small cry startled her again as she walked deeper inside. To her surprise, a hollowed out tree held what appeared to be a nest of metal! Inside the hole was a small insect alien that was crying out. It had a blue body with black and white spots on their arms and legs that resemble ice chunks, a light blue torso and large pale green eyes. It also had three pointed fingers and a thumb on each hand and two toes on each foot and a third toe-like extension on their ankles.
Jen blinked before blushing slightly and cooing at the small alien. Slowly, without trying to frighten the sweetie, she picked it up and rocked it in her arms. She had little experience with babies, no less baby aliens, but she felt an instant connection with the one in her arms. The baby stopped crying as it snuggled deeper into her chest. A chill ran down her spine at this simple action, letting Jen know that this baby probably had some connection to the coldness of space. Walking towards her bag, she held the baby in one arm as she picked up her guidebook in the other.
"Frozen aliens with insect features..." She murmured, the child looking down at the book with her as she slumped against the tree. "Here we are! Necrofriggians are known to be a species from the planet Kylmyys and are known best for their Cyrokinesis."
Seeing the picture of its species in the book, the small baby gave a cry of happiness, snuggling its cheek against the picture. Jen giggled at the interaction and patted it on the head.
"Too bad I don't know your gender, otherwise I would've given you a name. I guess I can still name you lil guy." She tapped her chin with her pen as she wrote into her journal. "Big Chill? Freezeghost? No those sound lame..." She snapped her fingers as one came to mind. "How about I call you Vortex? Like the Polar Vortex in the Earth's atmosphere!"
Vortex smiled as it tackled the girl in a hug. It seemed to have liked the name it was given. Jen laughed fully now, cuddling the small being. The familiar feeling of belonging felt nice to have after being on the run for awhile.
Before she could comprehend what was happening, Jen was suddenly dangling upside-down in front of Polar by what appeared to be a long green vine. She struggled a bit, contemplating on using her powers to break free when she heard a soft voice.
"Stay away from that poor creature human." It was female, a lot quiet than Jen was used to hearing from all the girls at school. She turned her head around to see who was speaking before gasping.
"No freaking way...you look like Wildvine almost!" Jen exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Indeed the alien was a Florauna like the alien she saw in Grandpa Max's Omnitrix, but with more feminine features. Her eye was teal while her vine-like hair cascaded down her back covered with red flowers. Her plant body shaped itself like a dress which also had some of those red flowers on it. Her fly trap was large, almost covering her head. Her vine arms were made to look like hands. The girl's dark lips were curled into a sneer.
"I don't know who this "Wildvine" is, but you are clearly one of those mean humans! I won't ask you again to step away from the baby. I don't want to use force." She threatened, trying her best to look menacing.
Jen held up her hands in a surrendering motion. "Calm down, I'm not here to hurt you or Vortex at all. Besides that..." Her eyes glowed green as she used her magic to remove the vine from her leg before landing softly on the ground. "I'm not even fully human either."
The girl blinked in surprise at this, but kept up a slight guard. "How did you do that? I thought humans had no powers."
"I'm not fully human remember? Just partially that's all." Jen picked up the fussy Vortex before smiling at the girl. "My name's Jen Tennyson, who are you?"
With her guard let down a bit, the Florauna sighed deeply before smiling back. "My name is Gaia, pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"How did you manage to lose Tennyson? We just saw her at the swamplands!"
Jones and Mahala sighed in frustration from Xerse's constant complaining for their lack of the Anodite female. Mahala tied her hijab a bit tighter and bit her lip. Why had she agreed to join this organization again? Was this method of survival the only one she could afford?
"Sir, if I may interject, how about we scour the area once more and see if we can find her? She couldn't have gone far." The woman said, trying to calm down the older gentleman from lashing out at her and the young Jones.
Xerse grumbled, but complied for the time being. "Very well Mahala, take Jones with you and scour the area once more! I want to find her before the higher ups decide to intervene. With this Highbreed invasion trying to start itself up, we have little hopes of wiping aliens off the face of the Earth!"
"Why again do we want to cause mass genocide?" Jones asked innocently.
"Because young cadet, if we let ourselves get overrun by these alien species, where are the humans going to live? Ever since Tennyson and his tribe of mutant brats traveled around the country, more aliens have been popping up all over the place! That's why we, the Enforcers, are trying to put a stop to all this."
Mahala rolled her eyes. "Isn't this what America is doing in general sir?"
"Just keep that tongue of yours in check Mahala or else I will." Xerse hopped on what appeared to be a motorcycle. "Now go and find that girl!"
Jen finds herself a hideout and some new friends! Wonder what will happen next?
