A.N: Hello once again, and as per usual, thank you all for the support, both newcomers and faithful mainstays. Onto the reviews!
JaxTheGamer: Well hello once more my good fellow! Happy you have enjoyed the chapter, and you are indeed correct in your answer, as Kubisai is based off of Scp-173 (not to mention, her name is literally Neck-breaker)! Yup, even if she's a minor character, I've still got a couple more scenes for her planned in the future. Do tell modern-Jesus that I said hello!
Longnose: Don't worry dude, he'll get there... and it might be a bit sooner than you think! (not during this current Arc though, sorry ;P)
StandUpKeepMovingForward: Correct on both parts my dude! ;D
SkeenTheDream: I am unashamed at my cliffhangers. I will continued to do them (mwahaha) XD. But yeah dude, glad you like the direction I went with Takeyama! The ability to control her Quirk size just gives her waaay for flexibility when it comes to fights. Remember, impact is determined by size, speed and weight, so now she basically has a range of options to choose from! As for Aizawa... well, I won't deny that he's also pretty underused in my fic, especially during the first overall arc of the story. I do have something planned for him later in the future that should help change that up a bit. So that being said, a rant is more than justified.
As for Kaibara, think about it like this: if given the maximum amount of training and under the right conditions needed to bring out its full potential, then arguably even All Might would certainly be in for a tough time. Though, who's to say Kaiten ever reaches that stage...? Oh well. ;P. Hope I keep that smile up my dude!
God Doesn't Love You: Yup, that's pretty much the rout I'm going for when it comes to references with other anime and shows! Some may be more obvious than others, but for those other ones, I want to put my own little twist to it, like Kaiten.
JJKR: Pretty much dude! Think about it more like this: the Quirk is inspired by Johnny, but thematically, he'll be more of a Gyro, hence his middle name being such. Granted, I won't say much else, because that's spoilers. Stick around and you might be surprised, because it'll soon come a time when a 'detour' becomes the shortest path to victory!
With all that said, onto the show!
Rumble, Young Man Rumble!
Chapter 16
Match, set!
The tactic between the four of them was rather simple. Kaiten would use his Quirk's most interesting and manoeuvrable ability, something that he liked to call 'Act 3'. Simply put, he created a sort of wormhole that allowed him to store and transport himself and an incredible amount of mass within a separate space. He was relieved to know that it could store people without harming them as well, and as such, a plan was formed. Kaiten would use Act 3 to sneak around the battlefield alongside Yu, with Kendo and Shinji close by. The moment they saw a chance, they would close in on their targets and Yu would distract them with a more controlled version of her Quirk. Once that happened, Shinji would step in to restrain them while Kendo placed the flags on them. And as simple as it was, it worked like a charm.
"I only thought that you could be normal or a giant!" Kendo laughed, lightly patting her on the back. She blushed from the praise but kept her composure.
"W-well, yes, as did I," She admitted. "But ever since the entrance exam, I realise that I've been limiting myself to those two different modes because I wanted to. I never needed to show restraint, or even try to modify my Quirk. But now though…" She smiled a bit as she flexed her fingers. "…now, I have the control that I need!"
"Well shit, you're gonna make waves in this competition Yu," Kendo said with a grin, popping his knuckles. "That aside, how much flags do we have left?"
"In total? One hundred and two."
"W-wait, really? We still have like… six minutes left, and we're currently in seventh place. We can do this!" As they jogged off, Kendo looked as Kaiten, the boy seeming a bit distracted as he held a flag in his hand in its ball formation.
"You good Gyro?"
"Hmm," He hummed, staring at it for a moment before he tried to outright crush it in his hands. It had never occurred to them, but these things were incredibly tough, meant to withstand the grip of strength-quirk users, high impact, and a multitude of other things. And so, Kaiten wondered. He focused intensely, channelling the power of the spin into the sphere. He grinned wide as it floated in his hand, suddenly spinning rapidly with gold and pink energy crackling from it. "I'll be damned, it works! The sphere isn't perfect like my own support items, so it won't hold or give off the same kind of impact, but still, this is great for a fall-back."
"So you can use your Quirk on parts of your body and certain objects? Gotta say, that's cool as hell," Kendo said, lightly tapping the spinning ball. The muscles in his arm suddenly twitched and jerked, going numb almost instantly. The feeling passed after a moment
"Holy crap dude, what was that!?"
"Oh, forgot to mention, unless it's me or my little brother, the spin has a… weird effect on your body. Whenever I hit anyone with it cleanly, especially when I can channel a big amount of energy into an object like this, it sort of makes your muscles and nerves freak out. You probably shouldn't touch it."
"Yeah, no shit," Kendo muttered, shaking his hand out. "Your Quirk is so bizarre."
"True," Kaiten laughed, a strange sense of deja-vu running through him. "Heads-up. We've got company right in front of us." Kendo looked up and scowled: sprinting right at them was Tetsude, his eyes set straight on Kendo.
"Yo, those flags can fold in on each other, right?" Kendo asked, crackling his knuckles.
"Yeah, why?" Shinji asked.
"I think we're gonna have to change our plan. That bastard is gonna keep coming for me, so I think I'll have to split from you guys for now."
"Wha-!? Kendo, we need you here to-!"
"Not really. Shinji's great at defending and restraining, Gyro is perfect for cover and getting rid of those flags, from a range and up close. You three have all the destructive power that you need, especially with Yu. If I let this bastard hound us, that plan is gonna fall apart regardless of me being here or not. Besides," He grinned as he discreetly held up several flags. "Time for some payback."
"… Well, if you have the will, then do it!" Kaiten said, the two of them fist-bumping, "Kick his ass Rappa!"
"That's the plan," He grinned fiercely, facing the charging Tetsude. "Now you guys go! I'll hold him off." They did just that, and Kendo instantly ran right at him, both of their fists drawn back and clenched tightly.
*BANG*
Their punches collided with a sharp shockwave, the ground under their feet cracking slightly. "Look at that, you know how to throw a fucking punch now!"
"And I'm going to cave your skull in with it!" Tetsude snarled back, his fingers on his free hand clawed and tensed. Kendo yanked his head back as Tetsude's fingers sliced through the air, the barest brush on his cheek actually creating a shallow gash.
'Faster than before,' Kendo thought as he backstepped away from another slash. 'Still open after every swing though.' As he ducked under another swing, he stepped in and quickly delivered a jab-cross combo clean to his face. Even without his quirk, the sharp punches were more than enough to send the larger boy reeling while Kendo quickly placed a chunk of his flags onto the boy's belt. Glancing up, he saw his team move from sixth to fifth and grinned. The gap of 93 to 40 was still a bit wide, but five minutes was more than enough time for his team to close it. 'Rumi's still up in first.' He realised, 'I can play with him for a bit longer!'
"C'mon shithead, show me you're worth some effort!" Kendo taunted, yellow eyes glinting violently. Tetsude growled savagely, his black eyes vibrating with fury before they clashed, two kings of strength and power ready to teach each other to shreds.
…
"Kendo pushed us to fifth place! We can do this!" Yu shouted as Shinji formed another shield, protecting them from the current third-place team. She placed her hand on the floor, Kaiten placing his hand over her own before yelling "Act 3!" They were both sucked into the hole that Kaiten's Quirk created, a strange grey void that he could freely move through with her in tow. They quickly snuck up to the group, Yu increasing her size to about ten meters tall, sticking her arm out of the hole as soon as they were close enough.
"Canyon Pistol!" Her fist cracked the floor, dirt and debris flying everywhere while the team was thrown off balance. They both popped out of the hole, Kaiten immediately grabbing flags off of his belt and channelling his Quirk into them. He shouted with exertion as he pelted them with all his might. They slammed into two of their opponents' chests, the force knocking them off of their feet and causing their bodies to spasm.
"It isn't enough, but we're almost there!" Kaiten shouted, grabbing another flag and throwing it as hard as he could at another person.
"Almost, but almost isn't enough against a King!" Said person was Eiyu Ousama, someone widely regarded as the next potential ace of 1-B (or even tied with Kaiten), roared as golden portals opened up around his shoulders. Silver chains shot out from them by the dozen, all of them racing to ensnare Kaiten.
"Maybe, but you're too arrogant to think something like that will stop me! Act 2!" Kaiten winced as he fired off four nails in rapid succession, each of them crashing into the pointed ends of the chains to send them reeling back into the portals. 'Damn, I need to keep an eye out for his Chains! I'll have to use Act 1 to at least slow them down and Act 3 to move out of the way. I can't afford to use up my last six nails on him!'
"I will cover you!" He was surprised as Shinji sprinted past him, a determined fire in his eyes as he lunged forward with an open hand. As more chains shot out, Shnji was quick to counter them with branches of his out, wrapping around and constricting the ends of Eiyu's chains. "Hurry! These are strong, and he will most likely yank me away or break my branches!"
"Thanks Shinji! Act 3!" He shot his hand placed on the floor and quickly guided it towards Eiyu's position, though a flash in the corner of his eye alerted him, and he grimaced. Though Eiyu was openly the contender for 1-B's ace, Kaiten had a rival of his own, one he knew would do his best to overthrow him and had the power to do so.
"You're wide open Kaiten!" Ronnie-James Brando, the powerful transfer student from England shouted, his light blond hair flowing freely as he leaped towards Kaiten, amber eyes glinting gleefully as a ghostly, yellow-armoured fist overlapped with his own.
"No you don't! Canyon Cannon!" Yu roared, outright drop-kicking Ronnie right in the chest before he could reach Kaiten. Even at twelve feet tall, her weight and speed was enough to send his slim frame flying. Even though his body went airborne though, Kaiten wasn't fooled: he saw Ronnie's Quirk move to defend him, ghostly arms blocking the kick from crushing his ribs. Yu saw it too, standing guard as Ronnie rushed forward, a scowl on his face.
"UNDER ONE MINUTE LEFT!"
"C'mon, LET'S FINISH THIS!" Kaiten roared, re-focusing on Act 3 as he guided the hole closer and closer towards Eiyu. Shinji was rapidly forming and re-absorbing branch after branch to counter the extreme rate at which Eyiu shot his chains out, sweat pouring down his face as he concentrated with everything his mind and body had to offer. Yu was losing ground, even is her taller and larger form, those phantom arms literally pummelling every inch her available. Her head was whipped back from an uppercut and she stumbled, Ronnie walking forward with his hands in his pockets. She wasn't out of the picuture yet: "TITAN CLIFF!" She stomped her feet hard into the floor and whipped her head forward, literally smashing her dome on top of Ronnie faster than he anticipated. He threw up his hands over his head in a solid guard, the phantom arms overlapping his just in time has her skull smashed into him with a *BOOM*. The ground under his feet cracked and his legs buckled, but he grinned as he fought back. Finally, Kaiten's Act 3 reached him, his hand popping out of the hole and ready to attack. It didn't work out that way.
"Fool! Did you think I was blind!?" Eiyu laughed, a chain instantly wrapping around Kaiten's wrist while another four managed to snake around Shinji's branches, wrapping around his torso. "It's over!" He laughed, raising his hand to throw the flag in his hand.
"Oh, I don't think so, because you're out of chains! OURAAA!" Kaiten took his free hand from behind his back, the flag in his hand already charged with the Spin as he threw it with all his might. The sphere shot through the air like a missile, crashing into Eiyu as a look of shock crossed his face, his body spasming and his chains dissipating. "S-so what!? It didn't touch me for half a second!" Indeed, the flag bounced off of him, and Kaiten fell to despair.
"Perhaps, but what about this!?" Shinji shouted, a flag at the end of his stretched branch, hidden inside the same hole that Kaiten created to get in close attaching to his belt… right as the ending horn sounded off.
"TIME IS UUUUUUUP!" Present Mic's voice blared. "AND JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME, MAKING IT TO FOURTH PLACE IS TEAM TAKEYAMAAAA!"
Yu and Kaiten immediately roared in triumph, their efforts and last minute improvisations having just barely pulled off and bagging them the place in the fighting Tournament. "We did it! Holy crap, we actually did it!" Yu cried out as she shrunk back to her normal form, collapsing onto the ground. Shinji and Kaiten made their way over to her, sitting down by her as they caught their breath. She looked up at Shinji, her schooled expression gone, replaced by a genuinely ecstatic grin. "We really couldn't have done it without your defence Shinji. Thank you." Her eyebrows went up as she saw his wooden skin turn a dark red, his hands fidgeting from the praise.
"I-It's of no consequence," He stuttered before he smiled back. "I'm glad to have helped."
"That help let you pull off your winning throw where mine failed. You've got guts and skill, Nishiya-kun, nyo-hoo!" He chortled, patting Shinji on the back. He paused after a moment, looking to see Ronnie standing above him. He wasn't being threatening, just standing with his arms folded. "You want something?" He kissed his teeth and held on open hand out.
"Perhaps you've managed to match me in this round, even if it was indirect," He admitted, "But don't let that swell your head. It'll be me who will widen the gap once more!"
"Heh, I'll sure as hell be looking forward to it Brando." They shook hands firmly before the blond went to talk to the other blond in his team. 'Weird, Eiyu and Ronnie are actually fairly similar. I wonder if that's just fate messing with me,' He wondered as he saw them laughing at a joke they shared, probably something about which caviar tasted better, or which five-star restaurant really wasn't a five-star. "…Hey, come to think about it…" He said after a moment, "Where the hell is Rappa-kun?"
As soon as he asked that, something big crashed into the floor next to them, scaring the hell out of everyone in the vicinity. From the dust rose an injured Tetsude, a bloody grin on his face. His body was covered in injuries, an arm broken, a deep gash on his forehead, bruises everywhere. They all turned to see Kendo standing over the hill, grinning right back at him. He wasn't much better off, deep and shallow cuts all over his body and uniform literally soaking him in blood, dripping from the fabric.
"I'll finish you later, asshole!" Kendo cackled, his bloodshot eyes vibrating in his skull. "You were way more fun to play with this time around, I'll give you that. Just don't hold anything back when we meet in the ring."
"Go fuck yourself, dickhead. Don't think that you had any kind of upper hand on me this time, because the next time we meet, I'll gut you like a pig!" He laughed right back. The two of them walked right by each other, Tetsude most likely going to find his team or get some water. As soon as Kendo reached his team (all of whom were gawking at him), his head swam and his collapsed to a knee.
"Holy Christ, what the hell happened between you two!?" Kaiten asked, taking a spare flag and channelling a generous amount of spin into it before gently brushing Kendo with it. The crackling energy leapt into him, and he felt something within him… fix. All the blood-vessels that were harmed and damaged weren't heals, but suddenly stabilized. Hell, he felt a bit rejuvenated. "You look like you threw your ass into a blender!"
"Kinda feels like it, not gonna lie," He chuckled before his expression turned serious. "That bastard hasn't been sitting on his ass the whole time. He's far faster than he was before, his movements are a lot more refined. The sneaky shit's been hiding this during Combat classes, and not to mention… he's got something up his sleeve. It isn't just that finger-slash of his. I was able to counter those, but he didn't panic at all."
"Well… experience is the teacher of all things," Kaiten said, "So you're at least aware of what you could run into. And uh… don't get cut up so much. My Quirk doesn't heal as far as I know, it just kind of keeps you together. Barely."
"…Yeah. Holy crap, this shit stings!" He hissed.
"Well then don't touch it you idiot!" Yu yelled, "Can someone get Recovery Girl here!?"
…
The man sat silently, pushing aside the cheers of the crowd as the match-ups were announced. He had to admit to himself that walking around in a full-blown set of Samurai Armour was quite uncomfortable at times. But such was a life where one had to keep up appearances. His eyes however were constantly observing two different people on the field, two who caught his eye in terms of skill and potential.
The first was Sendo. There wasn't too much to say about the boy and his physical skill. Not that he was necessarily lacking in a strong base, but he was missing something that truly gave him that edge in combat. Perhaps he saw something in the because of his connection to martial arts. He could recognise a form of Karate where he saw it, after all. 'Perhaps not as suited to… ending a fight as mine, but still a good style nonetheless.' The second one however…
Rumi had him fascinated. Taekwondo wasn't his preferred modern style, but she covered for it more than adequately with what appeared to be Muy Thai and boxing. Not to mention her speed, flexibility, agility, and strength… and that focused spark in her eyes whenever she was fully invested to something. Truly, it reminded him of himself in his youthful days when he was in his prime, when he had just mastered the Kaiwan style of Karate and could cut through boulders with his bare hands. 'Hmm… young, loud, and somewhat green, but… I am intrigued by you, Rumi Usagiyama.' The Equipped hero, Yoroi Musha was without a doubt had become quite invested with Rumi. The man under the armour, though he would never admit it aloud, wondered if he had finally found someone to pass down the last remnant of a dead style, and teach someone else to truly become strong. After all, he was getting old. It was the duty of the old to pass the torch unto the next generation.
'I am not old. I am simply ageing.'
You're sixty five.
'…still aging.'
(To Be Continued...)
