Author's note: Okay, so I have an idea on how this can possibly continue since Rory is supposed to have the house to herself for the night. Should I do a chapter 3 or end it here? Please let me know! I appreciate those who have taken the time to give me a review to continue this story. I hope I did not disappoint.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters of Gilmore Girls, some of the dialogue, or the initial plot idea. I am merely a fan writing an alternative version to the original scene.

Rory walked back into her house after taking a few deep breaths. The house was silent. She walked into the kitchen to find Paris dipping a fry into the salt and pepper dip while Jess looked down at the table. Paris raised her eyebrows at the sight of her.

"Rory…" Paris began but Rory cut her off before she could finish.

"Thank you Paris." Her voice cracked as she tried to make the tears that were on the verge of spilling go away. At the sound of her small voice, Jess turned to face her. She looked so small and fragile but he knew she was tougher than she looked. Rory and Jess held each other's gaze for a moment before Paris broke the silence.

"Rory, I…" Paris began. Rory turned her gaze to Paris leaving Jess to look down at the floor. "I think I should go." Jess's eyebrows shot up. If anyone should be leaving he thought it should be him. Afterall, Rory had invited Paris to spend the night. Paris looked at Jess before turning her attention to Rory and gave her a small sympathetic smile.

"Paris, you don't have to…" Rory was cut off by the finality in Paris' statement.

"Rory, I'll see you tomorrow." Paris said as she left the kitchen and out the front door.

Rory and Jess were left alone looking down the hall where Paris stood only a moment before. Rory kept her head turned away from Jess. She didn't know what she would tell him if he asked her why she had lied to Dean.

"So.." Jess broke the silence when he realized Rory was doing everything to avoid making eye contact with him.

"So" she said, turning to face him.

"Are you going to sit down?" He asked.

"Uh, not yet. I quite like standing here awkwardly." Rory replied trying to lighten the tension in the room.

"Okay." Jess said, a small smile tugging at his lips. He cleared his throat before continuing, "Why did you do it?"

"I.."

"Why did you lie? It's so out of character for you. I mean you could've told Dean I was here. Why didn't you?"

A rush of emotions ran through Rory's body and a million different excuses circled in her head but she rested on the truth. "I wanted more time with you."

"Oh." Jess said slowly nodding his head. He felt his heart speed up.

"It's just that..well..we were having such a good time and I wasn't ready for that to end."

"What about Dean?"

Rory closed her eyes and exhaled before replying, "I shouldn't have lied to Dean but he can't control who I spend my time with."

"Ah." Jess said. A smile breaking the serious form of his face.

"Don't think it's because I like you or anything. I mean I like you but not like you like you."

Jess' smile widened. "Okay." He said knowing fully well that Rory was getting flustered.

"So, what did you want to do?"

"I…" Rory blushed. "Well, we still have food and there's a great film starting at 8..." Rory began.

"I'll grab the food, you find the channel." Jess finished for her.

Rory smiled. She liked how easily she could fall intune with Jess. Of course her heart was racing all the while and she felt the palpable guilt from lying to Dean but she couldn't stop herself from walking over to the living room. Jess grabbed a few plates with food and walked over.

"Did you find the channel?"

"Yea."

"What did I agree to watch? Please don't let it be a chick flick."

Rory laughed. "Relax. It's very Jason Dean."

Jess took a seat next to her placing their food on the coffee table.

The time went by in a flash. It only felt like it had stopped about halfway through the film when their knees had touched. It wasn't something that either had planned but one movement after the other had them scooting closer. The moment their knees rested comfortably against one, Jess looked down surprised. Rory, however, kept her eyes glued to the screen. Jess moved his eyes back to the screen but he was hyper aware of the warmth emanating between the two.

"That was a trip." Jess said as the credits rolled on the screen.

"See, I knew you would like it."

Jess smiled. "Next time I choose the film."

Rory's eyes widened. "Okay, but I get to choose the food."

"As you wish." Jess replied knowing he would have to leave the couch soon but lingering just a moment longer.
