Hey guys. I haven't stopped crying ever since I've watched the episode yesterday night. I loved it. ... and hated it at the same time. I think it was a good ending. I missed some people and I really wanted to see the amulet... but apart from that... I think it's been great. So emotional. Jared and Jensen have done such an amazing job and I am so thankful that the show got me into improving my English. Then they got me into writing (starting out as "QuierdoMusic" on fanfiction - some of you might still know my old profile). And ultimately they got me into acting. They pretty formed my creativity. I'm just thankful. (Oh well, I am babbling again. )
Summary: Spoilers to the final episode. "Carry on". Endings are hard. But then again. Nothing ever really ends. Does it? ... It's been an open ending. So now, it's our turn. What happens next? This is my take on it.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. I don't even have tears left to cry.
Returning home.
"Is that real?" Sam's words were barely audible. "That is not a memory."
"Bobby said it's real." Dean offered a small smile, his hand still on his brother's neck. "Jack - and apparently Cas - have fixed heaven."
"Bobby? Cas?" Sam looked up. Dean could see that Sam wanted to believe that all of this was true. Heck - Dean had a hard time believing that it was real.
"They're here. So are mom and dad. I bet the others as well. Jo, Ellen, Ash. I entered heaven at the Roadhouse." Thinking about it, it made sense to Dean that he entered heaven close to Bobby. Their surrogate father was home. Especially when Sam wasn't around, Bobby was home. Dean smiled a tender smile, looking at his brother. His brother had appeared right by his side.
"How is Cas? What did he say?" Sam turned a little in order to face his brother. Dean let his hand fall, leaning against the wall of the bridge.
The corner of Dean's mouth twitched upwards. "Haven't seen him yet. I was kinda hoping to meet up with you first. Bobby said that time worked differently here. I figured I could wait for you before I search for the others."
"What? It's been years! How-" Sam seemed startled.
"As I've said, time works differently around here." Dean shrugged. "It's just been a couple of hours."
"Oh", Sam took a deep breath, still looking at Dean, like he feared that his older brother might disappear any minute now.
"You haven't done anything stupid, right?" The older Winchester looked at his brother.
"I haven't done anything stupid. I promised." Sam leaned against the bridge right by Dean's side. "I lied though. It has never been okay."
Dean reached out, squeezing Sam's shoulder. I'm here. "How long has it been for you, Sammy? If it's less than 30 years, I'm gonna kick your ass. Just saying."
Sam smiled at that. Briefly. "'bout 40 years."
"Hm. Your rabbit food paid off in the end." Dean cracked a smile. "You don't look a day over 50."
"Oh shut up." At that, Sam even laughed. Dean counted that as a victory.
"Tell me - what have you been up to?" Dean hoped that his brother had had his apple-pie life.
"I-", A small smile appeared on Sam's face. "Dean. It's been forty years. Let me just enjoy this." The younger brother moved his hand between them to indicate what he wanted to enjoy. Enjoying death. Gosh- we're weird...Well, enjoying each other's company. That was fine. "I missed you."
Ouch. Dean looked at Sam. He understood. He had spent forty years in hell - a long time without his brother. "Okay", he said, pulling his brother into another hug. "It's okay." He could hear his brother gulping down tears. Shouldn't everybody be happy in heaven?
"It's gonna be okay, Sammy." Dean tried to console his brother.
"I know that. You idiot!" Sam shook his head, broke the hug and slapped against Dean's shoulder. "I know that it's going to be okay." The younger Winchester rubbed a hand over his face. Gosh, Sammy was such a girl.
Dean smiled a small smile. "You're okay with searching for Cas now? I kinda would like to find him." Sam nodded, a lopsided grin on his face when he walked over to the Impala. His hand hovered over the metal for a second, as if he was afraid to touch the passenger door.
"She is not going anywhere", Dean followed suit and sat down behind the wheel. I'm not going anywhere.
"How do we find him?" Sam asked, unsure, once he was sitting inside the car.
"I don't know." Still, Dean started the car again and shifted into gear. Immediately he drove in the opposite direction of the Roadhouse, crossing the bridge.
The silence was pleasant. They had been on the road for a couple of minutes when something caught Dean's eye.
"The bunker?" Dean felt surprised when he stopped the car in front of the bunker's entrance.
"How did you know that it was here?" Sam tilted his head.
"I didn't know", the older Winchester took a deep breath before getting out of the car, in order to head to the door. Fortunately, the door wasn't locked. He stepped inside, Sam close behind him.
"Cas?", he shouted, wondering if the angel was here.
To be continued... ?
