Since I don't know if I described Will's looks good enough i figures I would drop a little fun fact. I kind of based him off Rezkin from King's Dark Tidings by KelKade, his looks are pretty much in line with how my character looks and Will's skill and proficiency with weapons and fighting I just a watered down and not as lethal version of Rezkin. Same with the acting that you'll see from Will more as the story goes on. Loved Rezkin and that series since I first picked up, and thought his style character would work perfectly in TWD. Thanks again, enjoy the story :)
There me and Rick were making our merry way down the streets of Atlanta, truthfully it was pretty eerie though. It was silent, and in my surprise we hadn't seen many walkers. I can't lie, I was once again starting to doubt Rick, I mean I was sure if I followed him we would walk into Atlanta and have to run and fight every second. That wasn't the case though, we'd been walking in here for about 10-15 minutes with only a few walkers to pass the time. I was truly bummed, and bored. We actually hid my humvee with my trailer of stuff off the side of the road before we came in here, so I have nothing to do. I left my comics back there, my books, but I promised Rick I'd come with him and then go back and get the humvee after we know his family is with good people.
Oooohhh! I should have know not to doubt Rick, there we are not even 3 minutes later and he's claiming to hear a helicopter and starts running to where he thinks he hears it. I haven't heard anything personally, I wouldn't say I have animal like hearing, but I would go out on a limb to say I have feather sharp hearing and I didn't hear a single thing. But who am to deny Rick this, and who's to say he won't lead me somewhere interesting trying to find this helicopter.
I heard them before I saw them and obviously Rick didn't see or hear them because he's shooting off and about to blindly turn a corner when I tug him back. I knew it, I knew it, never doubt ole double D to lead us to some fun. A whole horde of those walking fuckers was down this street. He panics for a second before turning and we start running the way we came, but now they're coming from everywhere.
"Double D you really know how to throw a party, are all these guys your friends? Don't you know about paying to enter man!"
"Not the time Will!" He yells back, and I can hear the shakiness to his voice.
Kukri in my off hand, my pistol in my right I finally get to have some fun. I can feel my body twitching with excitement, I'm not sure if it's from the fun I'm about to have or this caged animal feeling of seeing all the different streets and alleyways spilling out walkers.
Double D just had to ruin my fun, barely 30 seconds of fighting and he's already tripped beside some tank and dropped his gun while he's being swarmed. Sigh. Focusing on helping him I run over and drop 5 with my pistol before I need to reload. Since there wasn't enough time i holstered it and brought out my other kukri and started slicing heads.
One try to get a bite in my new buddy, but I quickly skewered it, and as I retracted it I used that momentum to arc around to a walker on my left burying the blade down the middle of its skull. I could keep this up for a while longer, but with him down and struggling with no melee weapon I wouldn't be able to fight enough of them off to keep him safe. Then I remember the tank.
"Rick, climb in the tank quick!"
Nodding and getting to his feet as fast as possible he scrambles up the tank and into the opening at the top. I myself kill 2 more walkers before leaping up there as well and following him in. Should have known he was clumsy. Sheesh. Oh well, we'll just have to wait them all out for a while.
Seeing a dead soldier in the tank with us, I approach it with my kukri at the ready, as soon as it moves I jam the blade up from below the jaw.
"Well that was fun wouldn't you say Double D?" I reply with a breathy chuckle.
With a side eye look like I'm crazy, probably am, he responds.
"Not exactly the kind of fun I was looking for."
Smirking to myself
"Haha, I tried to tell you about Atlanta. If your family and best friend are as smart as you say, they are probably not in the city."
With a brief nod he goes back to looking around the tank and thinking. That's when the radio starts to crackle and that's when we hear and young boy's voice come through that brings a shit eating grin to my face.
"Hey you. Hey dumbass, ya you in the tank you cozy in there."
Seems I'm not the only one that realized he's a dumbass haha. Wait, I wonder if he was actually talking about both of us. Hmmm that's not very nice, he doesn't know why I came here, but I guess he also couldn't know why Rick is here either. Look at Rick getting me roped into his dumbassery, oh well I chose to come with him so I guess I'll be a dumbass along with for right now. What does that make me? ADD "assistant deputy dumbass"? Hmm I'll have to think about this more another time, come up with a better side kick name for myself.
Inner monologue over I hear Rick talking to the voice we heard over the radio, something about jump to the right and run 50 yards to an alley. Whoa that so awesome Rick found a damn grenade, I want one. At least now he's got a melee weapon, those mini trench shovels are deceptively sharp. Rick turns to me with a nod and I nod back.
9mm back in my right with the kukri in the left I'm ready. Looks like he found a 9mm as well, but it doesn't have a silencer like mine. If it's full we should have 30 shot between the 2 of us. Easy, I'll just time shots for just a beat after his, so that as long as he fires immediately when he's able to again it will just be a continuous fire of 30 bullets.
Rick opens the hatch and looks out, one must have come up to his side because he quickly whips around with the shovel and swings it with a squelchy impact at the end of the swing, then a thud. Nice Double D you're really starting to get the hang of this stuff. I'll make you into a weapon yet. He's out the hole and running off the front of the tank and I quickly followed out. And just when I thought he was getting good at this stuff, goes and lands slightly wrong on his feet, falling to the ground. Damn it Rick why did you leave your shovel, what the fuck man. Shaking my head I leap down and bring him to his feet.
pow-pew-pow-pew*
Following up his shots we make our way down the side walk at only barely faster than a power walk because of his leg. When did he become such a good shot? He hasn't missed a single headshot while he's running with a limp, is this even the same guy that got shot before the apocalypse. Taking care of some of the walkers behind when I hear the voice from the radio.
"WHOA! Not dead! Come on! Come on!"
Following them down the alley I pull this metal gate fence thing closed, but the walkers are starting to push it down. I call out to them. "Better hurry, this flimsy piece of shit won't hold'em for long."
As I say that it starts to give way and both of them have started to climb a ladder on the side of a building. The Asian kid is sounds more scared than Rick did, and he's already half way up the damn ladder. Relax kid, if you skip down this damn ladder on me, we are gonna have some problems. With some clawing at my boots I climb up behind them until we reach a little metal landing looking down at the walkers.
"Nice moves there, Batman and Robin. You two coming in to take out the bad guys?"
Robin? How dare he, I knew i was gonna be considered the sidekick with Rick wearing a sheriffs uniform, but really? I have to be Robin. A cloud of depression floats over me and a sad expression crosses my face. To think I was gonna thank this guy, and he goes and does this. Right now me and this "savior" are enemies. With a quick glare I return my face to neutral, and once again it seems Rick has been talking to him while I was monologuing.
"You're still a dumbass."
Man am I glad I got to catch that haha, using the the back of my hand to lightly tap Rick's arm. I give him another big grin with obvious amusement across my face. Maybe this guy isn't so bad after all, I really will thank him later for all of this haha.
Rick seeing my amusement can only frown and shake his head at the obvious meaning of my smile.
"Rick. Thanks." He says turning away from me and extending his hand out to
"Glenn. You're welcome."
Hmm Glenn yes, I must thank him later. Should I get him a gift of some kind or return the favor by doing something equally amusing as he did unintentionally? I'll think on this more, and when I look up both of them are looking at me.
"Oh! Will. Thanks from me as well." But I don't reach my hand out, just showing my thanks with a nod. The nod returned, Glenn turns toward the next ladder.
Looking up towards the roof Glenn speaks up again. "The bright side: it'll be the fall that kills us. I'm a glass half full kinda guy." And wit that he starts his ascent.
Rick turns to me with an arched eyebrow as I'm trying not to laugh out loud at what Glenn said. Laugh contained and a nod to Rick we make our way up this tall ass ladder.
Making our way across the rooftops we come start climbing down a new ladder to the inside of what looks like an office building. Glenn pulled out a radio and started talking to who I'm sure is his group. Interesting they call the walkers, geeks. Hmmmm, nah I don't like it as much as walkers. Him and Rick are just standing there staring at them, but I just leap over the rail with my 2 kukris drawn and quickly take down the walkers closest to us, the other 2 are far enough down the alley they shouldn't matter. Then 2 guys come rushing out of a door with these protective suits on, but as soon as they look around and see 2 walkers dead and me standing over them they just stop, moving their heads from me to the walkers to Glenn seemingly confused.
"Uhm? They're dead?" I shrug my shoulders and then resheathe my blades.
With an exasperated sigh from Rick they just herd us into the building with some blonde woman now yelling at Rick and shoving a gun in his face. Quicker than I guess they thought possible i pull out my left kukri laying it in her shoulder with blade barely touching her neck, and my right drew my pistol that's now alternating between different targets.
The blonde freezes and tenses up when she feels the blade, and the rest of Glenn's group are obviously feeling tense and nervous themselves. Speaking out.
"How bout you get that gun out of my friend Double D's face. And then let's take a step back here."
With shaky hands she lowers the gun eventually dropping it. Hmm I never told her to drop it, maybe I was scarier than I expected. Nice maybe I should have been an anti-hero instead of a vigilante.
"Good, now let's all calm down here." As I finish I reaheathe my kukri and holster my pistol.
The one everyone seems to be calling Andrea bends down and grabs her gun, the slowly turns around to look at me. At first there was fright, but now she looks at me almost appraisingly. Then pockets her own gun in her back waistband.
With everyone finally calm they give us the "woe is me" routine about how we ruined their scavenging by attracting all those walkers. As if we did it on purpose! I was truly appalled by this groups seemingly lack of responsibility. Y'all came as a group to scavenge, but the only one scavenging was Glenn while they are all hiding inside what seems to be a clothing store. How did people like this survive so long. The people are really some big babies.
Oh well, at least they had more information on the refugee center, now that Rick knows it's a dead end we don't have to keep looking for it. They were also trying to use a walkie talkie to talk to the rest of their group. Seems like this group might be worth hanging around after all, a nice big group to observe and get back to my favorite past time of people watching. Hopefully there is some juicy drama. That's when a rifle went off and it's obvious these guys don't like whoever is up there shooting.
Oh geez, this Merle guy is like the epitome of the stereotypical trashy redneck. Waving his rifle around, and just the way he talks and hold himself you can tell he thinks hes on top of the world. I think he's high as well. Whoa, and there goes the slurs towards Morales though his wasn't as bad as what he called T-Dog, can't believe there a people still like this, especially during the apocalypse. Oop they're fighting, this should be interesting.
T-Dog swiiiiiings and misses and Merle responds quickly with the butt of his rifle, T comes back up just to meet the right hand of Merle. It's not looking good for the good guys on this one. Ooooh Double D tries to sneak up on Dixon just to get knocked back over a pipe and it looks like it was a good shot. T again comes back, he's truly showing some grit here today on top of the department building rooftop ring, oooh a boot to the stomach. Actually I should probably stop this, get in the good graces of the rest and no reason for my future people I'll watch to get too hurt.
Hopping over Rick and the pipe he fell over, I quietly pad up behind Merle with a quick but hard chop to the back of his neck to know him out. He flops to the ground and Rick handcuffs him to a brace that's on the metal pipes. Looking at Rick i cheekily call out to him.
"Double D you really shouldn't let people punch you like that, it's not good for your face haha."
"Ya, you're probably right Will." He responds with a breathy chuckle and rubbing the spot where Merle punched him.
This group is definitely gonna be interesting, an aggressive blonde with obvious problems, a crazy red neck, I'm honestly curious how it why they put up with this guy. Oh damn Merle pretty tough, he was only out for like 30-45 seconds and now Rick is going on a preaching session. Wow Rick is so cool, he's like some superhero lecturing the bad guy on why what he did was wrong. Wait, did I just hear thunder? Eh maybe I imagined it. Oh I definitely heard thunder now, I wonder if it's gonna rain. Sometimes we just get heat lightning with no rain. Now these idiot wanna go through the sewers. Ugh I am not a fan of being underground or being trapped like that. The tank was at least above ground, and I could personally have escaped if I wanted to.
I clued back into the conversation when a flashlight was being handed to me by Morales. Apparently Glenn picked me to assist him i the tunnel, something about me being a super ultra cool badass ninja like person... Okay I made some of that up but he did pick me because I was as fast if not faster than him and seemed sure on my feet. I could only nod, I mean the kid is buttering me up and I still have to find a way to repay and thank him for all the indirectly amusing things he's done. And how will I do that if he goes down that tunnel and dies? Alright c'mon Will you got this, i psyche myself up as we climb down.
I can't figure out if Glenn is brave, terrified or really smart or some wacky combo of all three. I mean honestly, brave for volunteering to go down there, but maybe it's just smart because he knows there is a very small possibility of there being any walkers down here, or he's terrified and is trying to get as far away from the walkers up top as possible. He even jumps at every little rat, oh boy Glenn, you're almost as interesting to watch as Rick. I really hope there are more like you in this camp.
"So Will, what are those swords called and why are you so good with them?"
Hmmm to answer honestly, I think while tapping my chin. Looking towards him, eh he looks way to nervous and doesn't look like he can keep a secret, so I'll give a half truth. And I'll count it towards the repay part of the "repay and thanks" I've been trying to figure out. Even if he doesn't know it, I will.
"Well, as for what they are called, they are a type of machete called "Kukri" a weapon traditionally associated with the Gurkhas of Nepal and India. As for why I'm good with them, well i just happened to practice them in my free time for a long time."
Like I said a half truth, when I wasn't working with the other weapons I was perfecting these, so you could say I used them for a long time in my free time. Sorry Glenn.
"That's pretty cool, I've just never seen that kind of weapon before and was wondering."
"And because you're nervous." I respond with mirth
Wincing he responds "You could tell?"
"Yup, just about anyone could tell. Sorry Glenn" I give him a soft pat on the back.
Glenn's head now slightly hanging we continue down the tunnel. We finally came across a tunnel with a grate over it, and surprisingly there was a walker on the other side eating a nice McRat meal. He turns toward us and tries to reach us but I just stab my kukri through his head and look at Glenn who's shaking a little more than usual. He really is like a little chihuahua haha.
Climbing back out we get to the clothing section to see that the walkers have busted through the first set of doors. I wonder if I could hold off that many with just one door open thinking to myself. It's definitely possible, but that's as long as the other doors old and if by some very unlikely circumstance I trip. Eh better not risk it. Let's see if Rick has a good plan for us. And don't you think i didn't see you getting cozy with the trigger finger blonde, you dog Double D. Looking for your wife and son, but already planning ahead.
Oh man, what did I say, Rick has the best plans. I mean what kind of guy immediately correlates walkers being able to smell us to then having us cover ourselves in walker guts. And poor Glenn, he got roped into his insanity. Wait they're handing me a coat like there's too. Oh hell Rick if you were a girl I might would kiss you right now, this has been better than I could ever imagine. Should I tell them it's probably gonna rain soon? Naaaah should be interesting, plus I'll be there to help them.
Rick and morales traded chopping up the walker and now we are being coated in walker guts and blood by the other members and Glenn is hating it. It's taking everything I have not to bust out laughing at Glenn. Oop there he goes, he just threw up. Rick told him to think about puppies and kittens, but then T-Dog just come in with "dead puppies and kittens". I don't know if I should be laughing, but I pretended to cough to not let them hear me laugh. Whoa there blondie, you're getting a little close down there, isn't Double D warming up to you.
Now all walkered up, we make our way down the alley. Outfitted like usual, kukri in the left hand, pistol in the right. Surprisingly enough it works. Man if I ever get split off from this group I'm gonna do this everywhere I go, with my pull over little face mask, I can't hardly smell any of the nasty walker smell.
Oh there comes the rain, just like I thought, we are about halfway there, I give it about a minute or 2 before we need to start running. It's coming down heavier than I expected, maybe not even a minute at this rate. We are starting to draw the attention of all the walkers. One charges Rick, but he's quick to axe it. I then turn and cut one walkers head off, and start firing my pistol at the ones in front of. With a lane cleared we dash for the fence that has the box vans, sheathing and holstering the pistol, i leap up the fence one at the top one a little below and flip myself over. Quickly turning around and continue to fire the rest of my mag at the approaching walkers. With that mag empty that leaves me with 2 more strapped into my vest. When Glenn and Rick clear the fence we all strip off the walker covered coats and run towards a box truck, Glenn in the middle, me in the passenger and Rick in the driver seat.
Since Glenn is the one that know where the camp is he's going to be drawing the walkers away from the the department building. Pulling up to a nice red Dodge Challenger, Rick goes to bust through the window with a crow bar.
"Whoa whoa whoa there Double D at least check to see if it's locked, damn." I say walking up to the car.
Effortlessly the car door opens and with a smirk I turn to look at "Officer Friendly" as Merle calls him. Though the car alarm started going off, and wailing loudly. Not a bad name honestly, but I'm gonna keep Double D. Sitting in the driver seat i motion for the screwdriver in Rick's hand and crank the car up.
"I don't even want to know why you could do that." Rick shakes his head walking back to the van.
Shrugging my shoulders I give a double finger salute to Glenn and hop in the passenger seat of the van. Few minutes later we back up to a roll door and I start helping everyone throw their stuff into the van while Rick gets ready to drive off. With everyone else and only more walkers coming from where they were coming from, I shut the roll door and move back to the passenger seat. Everyone is really quiet for some reason, just looking back and forth between one another. Then as if to answer my unspoken question T-Dog speaks up.
"I dropped the damn key."
I won't lie, I definitely laughed but quickly covered it with a cough while looking out the passenger window so that no one sees the smile on my face. These people are too much, he couldn't pick it up? I can't wait to hear more of this story. And then blondie decided to speak up.
"Where's Glenn?"
"I imagine he's living the dream right now." With a playful chuckle and small smile across my face.
She looks back with a questioning eyebrow raise so I elaborate further.
"You'll see when we get to the camp." With that I face back forward and relive the day. Truly the best day I've had since the apocalypse started.
Author's Note
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, this is gonna probably be the standard length of the chapter, but could be longer or shorter since I'm watching the episodes as I write this. I'm also trying to not use too much dialogue that comes from the show unless it's absolutely necessary. Like how I swapped Glenn calling Rick "Clint Eastwood" to him calling MC and Rick "Batman and Robin" or when Merle was being racist on the roof. I will use more of the shows dialogue later on because now the MC is gonna be entering his observer role. As mean as it is, Rick is going to not interact with Will anymore now that he's found his family. Which suits Will fine enough, he can now snoop around camp and get back to his favorite past time of people watching and secretly/indirectly pitting people together. Also how do you think he's going to deal with Ed? Is he going to be able to ignore it, or are we finally going to see Will's ruthless side?
Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone is fine with me following a mostly 1 episode per chapter sort of deal. It may fluctuate. I also haven't decided if I'm going to save Sophia yet. I've read some where they have, but she just doesn't seem like that necessary of a character, and she serves as a stepping stone for Carols evolution. Depends honestly on how I end up writing the Ed situation. Will might feel like he needs to help her and play like an older brother like role for her. But I still want Carl to get shot because obviously we need Shane's descent into madness. Gonna be fun writing Will and Shane's interactions
Thanks again for reading :)
