Disclaimer: I don't own Batman.
"Guess what, Robin!"
Batman was sounding elated as he gazed with a wide grin at Robin, who was pondering with a dopey look.
"Eeeeeerrrrrrmmmmm... I can't guess, Batman!"
"I've been tuning up the Batmobile!"
"Really?!" Robin's face brightened up. "Great! I've always said it could do with a device to give us some nachos while we're driving to a job! Did you remember to add spicy dip as well?"
"No, Robin! I've not tuned it up to give us any food, silly birdie!" Batman shook his head with a frown - which was wiped off by the wide smile that forming. "Funny I should call you that..."
Robin glared, not liking his guardian referring to him as the animal that had a breed which happened to share his name. "I don't see anything funny about you calling me that..."
"I do... As I'm Batman and you're Robin..." The muscular hero of Gotham grinned. "I've tuned up the Batmobile - to fly!"
The youngster's eyes widened with amazement - which couldn't at all be seen behind his mask. "You have?"
"Indeed I have!"
"Wow!" Robin could barely hide his excitement over learning what their iconic vehicle which he and Batman always travelled in could now do. "I can't wait for our first mission to go flying!"
Right at that moment, the Bat Signal went off.
"There's our chance now!' Batman exclaimed, surprised how an opportunity had come the moment Robin had made his remark. "There's trouble in the city! Come on, Robin! To the BatMobile!"
The Dynamic Duo slid down the Bat Poles into the Bat Cave - and there they found their recently tuned-up vehicle waiting for them. They could hardly wait to try out what it could now do as they leapt into their seats. Batman started up the engine before slamming his foot down on the gas pedal.
The BatMobile took off at high speed out of the Bat Cave, charging into the moonlight atmosphere which filled the city. It raced along the road a few yards - then...
ZOOM!
ROAR!
WHOOSH!
"Holy skies, Batman!" Robin exclaimed as he gazed in astonishment through the window. One moment, the BatMobile's tyres were firmly on the tarmac - the next, they broke contact with it as the dark vehicle lifted into the air. "We're flying!"
Batman grinned proudly, observing through the windshield as their surroundings began to pass under them. He had no problem driving his iconic car through the air. Higher and higher he took it into the sky, passing over the rooftops of city buildings which grew smaller and smaller below them.
"Now then," he said as he turned the steering wheel. "To find the one causing trouble in Gotham tonight!"
"Will we find him up here, Batman?"
"Not a problem, Robin!" Batman smiled as he pointed out to what he was steering the car towards. "Not if we drive straight to the Bat-Signal!"
Robin gazed ahead through the window. He could see in their path through the sky was a full moon. As it always did whenever trouble brewed in the city, it had Batman's trademark bat-shaped logo cast upon it for all to see.
Pleased to have an opportunity to try out the new ability of his car, Batman changed gears. The BatMobile picked up speed as it charged through the air - straight towards the moon.
"Erm... Batman..."
"What is it, Robin? Can't you see I'm flying us to where there is trouble for us to stop?"
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
"Forgetting something?!" The masked vigilante sounded outraged by what his sidekick was suggesting. "I never forget anything! I'm Batman!"
"Well, we're getting closer to the moon, right?"
Batman stared through the windshield the luminous satellite he was flying the car towards, nodding when he saw it was getting closer by the second. "Riiiiiiight... What's your point?"
"My point is..." Robin was sounding increasingly nervous as he rubbed his arm. "...shouldn't you start to make a landing?"
"What?!"
Batman's face fell when he heard Robin's words. He glanced with horror to find they were still heading towards the moon. He clenched his teeth together as he swallowed his terror before turning to face his assistant.
"Erm... You're right, Robin... I did forget something..."
"What?!"
"I forgot to install the BatMobile with landing gear!"
Robin's face went white. "Tell me you're kidding, Batman!"
"I'm afraid not...and there's something else I forgot!"
"You forgot something else?"
"Yeah... To get the turbo engine installed into the BatMobile... I had to first take out the brakes..." A sweat drop ran down Batman's head. "And I forgot to put them back..."
"No brakes?! And no landing gear either?!" Robin's alarmed voice filled the inside of the car. "What are we gonna do, Batman?!"
"Crash..."
Realising they were about to go through what was about to happen to the car, the Dynamic Duo screamed as it soared unstoppable forward at full speed - before crashing violently straight into the moon. It instantly broke apart with bits and pieces hurling everywhere. With no car now to store them inside, Batman and Robin plunged down from the sky towards the city.
Down far below, the infamous criminal who had triggered the Bat Signal when he had robbed the bank that evening had seen everything.
"Silly old Batman! If you were meant to fly - you'd have superpowers!"
The Joker threw his head back as he cackled at his own wit. His hysterical laughs filled the air - only to be cut off as Batman came crashing down on top of him.
Finding he had found a soft landing in the crook he was after, Batman sat up and looked down at him with a smug smirk as he took the sack of stolen money he was carrying. "Foiled you again, Joker! When will you learn that crime doesn't pay-OOF!"
Batman's triumphant gloating was cut off as Robin suddenly landed on him. The hero of Gotham was now sandwiched in between his enemy and his sidekick.
Grunting in pain and discomfort, Batman tapped his fingers on the ground as he gazed at the one who had almost crushed him. "It's moments like this when we could do with flying ourselves. Wouldn't you agree, Robin?"
Robin shook his head in disgust to show that he didn't. After Batman's tune-up to the BatMobile had backfired and almost killed them, the boy who shared his name with a breed of bird was put off flying for life.
The end.
