This is the sequel to "Anger Issues" (I would highly recommend reading in order!). I received some much appreciated advice from a guest review that the format of one scene per chapter was choppy and cumbersome and I think this was extremely valid, so I've decided to post this part of the story in Acts. I hope this is preferable! Without further ado- "Political Compass"
Teaser Scenes - Scene Set 1
INT. Emily's Bedroom - NIGHT (Scene 1.1)
START SCENE
Emily looked at the phone buzzing on her nightstand. Who'd be calling at this time of night, unless it was a case. Ugh...Already? she thought.
We just got back from that last one. She was laying on her bed and lunged her arm across the bed to reach the phone and peered at her. Morgan?
Why would Morgan call her at 3:00 am? Usually Hotch, Garcia, or JJ, hell even Strauss called to inform them about a case but never Morgan. Half asleep, she groggily answered the call.
Emily: Morgan?
Morgan: Hey, you're up!
Huh? Was this a social call? From Morgan? At 3:00 am? What kind of alternate reality was this? A dream?
Emily: Not until you called.
Morgan: Oh sorry. I can call back later-
Emily interrupted Morgan
Emily: Morgan, what is this about? Do we have a case?
Morgan paused, he hadn't quite figured out what he wanted to say
Emily: Morgan?
Morgan: I just wanted to ask if you were ok.
Emily was confused
Emily: Why wouldn't I be?
Morgan: Like I said earlier, You were acting squirrely
Emily sighed
Emily: I thought we settled this in the car, I'm fine- we solved the case.
Morgan: We did. Doesn't change the fact that you damn near ripped off your fingernails
Emily looked down-he was right. She would definitely need to get a manicure before attempting to shake hands with anyone.
Morgan: Prentiss?
Emily sighed again
Emily: You're calling me at 3:00 am to check on me-I think you can call me by my first name
Morgan: Emily, whatever is going on-you can talk to me you know? It's not good to keep stuff bottled up. I don't want you to go all Greenaway on us.
Emily: What?
Morgan: Never mind, but seriously, don't be a stranger
Emily smiled at this- she knew Derek was a friend, but she didn't even know why she'd been weird for the last case or two herself. What was there to tell Derek?
Emily: See you tomorrow, Derek.
Morgan: See ya.
She waited a moment, but then ended the phone call. She looked at her now off- phone again before tossing it away from her. Hopefully it landed on the carpet.
She plopped down on the bed again and ran a hand through her hair. For all the profiling skills she had, she could not figure out what was going on with herself. Right now though, she needed sleep.
She could figure out what her issues were another time. Her eyes close and the scene fades as she drifts off to sleep

EXT. VIEW OF DC- THE CAPITOL - NIGHT (SCENE 1.2)
INT. REPRESENTATIVE FREDERICK STEWART CANMORE'S OFFICE - NIGHT (SCENE 1.3)
START SCENE
A young, attractive woman in a red dress and blazer is sifting through her bosses' file cabinet, looking for the bill proposal folder he'd asked for. She couldn't find it at first, so she just started pulling out the larger files and checking. She comes across a thick folder. The audience can't see what she can read, but can see her growing shock spread across her face.
She takes out her cell phone and snaps pictures. Her boss walks in. It's an older man in a suit, with an American flag pin on his chest.
He's short and portly. His eyes widen as he realizes what's happened. The girl shuffled to her feet, shoving the phone away hoping he hadn't seen it.
Her efforts were futile. He gestures for her to get out and she scrambles out of there. As soon as she does, the man sits down at his desk and opens a locked drawer.
In the drawer is a burner cell phone. He dials a number.
Rep. Frederick S. Canmore: Get rid of the girl.
He hangs up the phone, and tosses it in a trashcan. The camera focuses on the discarded cell phone in the bin. The scene ends.

INT. BULLPEN - Morning (SCENE 1.4)
START SCENE
Reid, Rossi, Morgan, and JJ are sitting around the bullpen. Emily walks in a bit later than the rest of the team, she's tired from her late night call with Morgan, but the oversized cup of black coffee helps. The team greets each other, when Garcia walks by and beckons them to the conference room.
The reason why is clear - they have a case. Hotch is already in the conference room

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - MORNING (SCENE 1.5)
START SCENE
One by one the team takes their seats. Emily looks between Morgan and JJ before deciding to seat between Morgan and Reid, JJ on the other side of Reid.
Garcia: Alrighty everyone. On the docket for today is 21 year old congressional aide Mara Brenton, who, sadly for Ms. Mara, was found shot execution style in her apartment two days ago.
JJ: A single murder two days ago? Why is this a BAU case?
Garcia: Ah, well that would be because this morning Senator Patricke Earle of the Lone Star state was found murdered in his Georgetown townhouse. Same M.O.
Hotch: I believe the high profile aspect of this case is why we've been called in.
Morgan chuckles
Hotch: Morgan?
Morgan: That's code for Strauss wants to look good, isn't it?
Hotch looks at Morgan, trying to give him a stern look, but can't hide the fact that Morgan is absolutely right. They were all sick of Strauss playing politics with their cases.
Hotch: Since this is local, we'll center the work from here. Rossi and I will talk to Brenton's employer Representative Frederick Canmore. Prentiss, Morgan, you two go and talk to Earle's wife, Katharine- Prentiss, I believe she's friendly with your mother, it might be nice for her to see a familiar face.
Prentiss nodded
Hotch: and JJ, Reid you two stay here and work victimology. Both the victims worked in politics but one was a senator and the other an aide. We need to figure out if and how their paths cross.
Every team member nodded and headed out of the conference room, in a similar fashion to how they'd entered. The scene fades
