ACT 3 - SCENE SET 4
THE NEXT DAY INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - MORNING (Scene 4.1)
START SCENE
Garcia: Ok, avengers, we have another murder. Same M.O. And get this- It's Canmore's campaign manager, Roy Brennan, found dead in his Foggy Bottom highrise.
Hotch: so either Someone is targeting Canmore -or
Reid: He's behind this
Morgan: Why would a congressman have his aide, her boyfriend and his campaign manager killed?
Prentiss tilted her head
Prentiss: Somebody knew something they shouldn't?
JJ: You think this is a coverup?
Prentiss: I (pause) think we need that warrant for Canmore
Hotch: Agreed. It's on the way.
END SCENE
INT. Garcia's Lair - DAY (Scene 4.2)
START SCENE
Morgan walks into Garcia's computer room
Morgan: Garcia, warrant's on its way but can you start looking into Brennan?
Garcia: Oh you underestimate me. It's already done and boy, did I find something capital S sketchy. Ok so, for the last year or so, Brennan has been receiving small payments totaling around 500,000 into a secret off-shore bank account.
Garcia: I can't tell where the wire transfers are coming from.
Morgan: I got a feeling- look in Canmore's financials
Garcia: why, what do you think it'll have?
Morgan: I'm not sure-just check, baby girl
Garcia: Your wish is my command! Let's see-[long pause] Oh, this is why you are the fancy supervisory special agent and I am the mortal tech analyst. Canmore sent payments in the same amounts as appeared in Brennan's accounts.
Garcia: It doesn't say which account Canmore was sending it too-but the dates match up.
Morgan: Why would Canmore use a secret account to pay Brennan-he's his campaign manager- that's public knowledge. Why not just pay him above board?
Garcia: Maybe the money isn't for his campaigning skills? I'll keep-Oh Oh! Canmore also is paying huge amounts to another account.
Morgan: Garcia, you're amazing.
Morgan leaves Garcia's lair

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY (Scene 4.3)
START SCENE
Morgan walks back into the BAU Conference Room
Morgan: Guys, Garica and I think we have something. Brennan has an offshore account and he got several small payments adding up to half a million dollars wired to it. Canmore has transactions that match both date and amount.
Morgan: Plus, Cadmore's got similar transactions with another off-shore account that Garcia hasn't been able to trace yet.
Reid: I have a theory- Garcia, the second set of transactions- what are the dates on those?
Garcia: Um… Oh no. There's one for 50 grand the day before Mara Brenton was killed and another 50 grand the day after. Same thing with Patricke Earle and now, Roy Brennan
Reid: Garcia, thanks. I think Canmore has a hitman.
Rossi: That makes sense. But why pay off the guy he was going to have killed?
Reid: He probably had him killed to cover up whatever he was paying him to do.
Prentiss: And maybe Mara and Earle were involved too?
Hotch: I think we need to know what the hell they were all involved in
At this point, Garcia runs into the conference room
Garcia: We found her phone!
Hotch: What?
Garcia: Mara's phone! CSU couldn't find it at the scene-but it was just found in a dumpster down the street from her apartment. And look what I found!
Garcia runs over to the project and plugs in the cell phone. She clicks a few times on the connected laptop. On the screen appeared photos from Mara's cellphone.
The pictures are of documents from Canmore's office. The team is shocked, it's clear to them what's happened but the audience doesn't see. The scene ends on their shocked faces.
END SCENE
EXT. OUTSIDE OF QUANTICO - DAY (Scene 4.4)
START SCENE
There's a large gaggle of press with cameras flashing waiting for the SUV when it arrives, hoping to catch a glimpse of a respected congressman being brought into the FBI headquarters as a suspect in a triple homicide case. JJ got out of the SUV first and led the press away, giving them vague non-answers and "no-comments" to distract them long enough for the team to bring in Canmore.
END SCENE
INT. BAU INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY (Scene 4.5)
START SCENE
Canmore is sitting handcuffed at the table, Prentiss is standing up
Canmore: This might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Murder? A hitman? What kind of half cooked conspiracy theory is this?
Prentiss: Mr. Canmore, all due respect but it seems you are the one with the conspiracies.
Canmore: Miss. Prentiss, I-
Prentiss interrupts Canmore
Prentiss: Agent.
Canmore looks exasperated
Canmore: Agent Prentiss. I would like to believe that the daughter of a well respeocted diplomat isn't accusing another politican of murder.
Prentiss bites her tongue
Prentiss: This has nothing to do with my mother, Congressman. We have photographic evidence that you had your Campaign manager, Roy Brennan, rig your election last year. As well as evidence of payments you made to him for his troubles
Canmore: Even if what you are saying is true, which it is absolutely not, why would I have him killed? A hitman- Where would I even find a hitman?
Prentiss sat down
Prentiss: You tell me.
Canmore: I have nothing more to say to you people. Where's my lawyer?
Prentiss sighed and rolled her eyes. She stood up and exited the room, once they invoked, there was nothing more they could do.
END SCENE
INT. INTERROGATION OBSERVATION ROOM - DAY (Scene 4.6)
START SCENE
When she was out of the room, Hotch was waiting for her.
Hotch: He invoked?
Prentiss nodded.
Prentiss: What do we do now?
Hotch, sighing: We try to get the lawyer to make him talk.
Prentiss sighed
Prentiss: That won't be easy will it?
Hotch: No, it won't be
The camera focuses on Prentiss' exasperated, annoyed and concerned face. The scene ends
END SCENE
INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY (Scene 4.7)
START SCENE
JJ: His lawyer's name is Peter Dahmer? Seriously?
Rossi: Seriously creepy that's for sure
Hotch: Security just informed me that he's on his way up.
The team was not excited to have to deal with Canmore's lawyer. That meant they were probably going to have to make some sort of deal. First though, Hotch needed to tell Strauss.
The fact that serious election fraud was involved made this case political- the Director would probably report it directly to the POTUS. Hotch dismissed himself to go talk to Strauss, who was waiting for him in the hall. The camera shows Hotch exiting the conference room and meeting Strauss in the hallway.
The audience can see them start to talk, but the sound is muffled. The scene shifts back to inside the BAU Conference Room. Prentiss leans toward the interior window
Prentiss: He's here. (PAUSE) Who wants to go play nice with the homicidal politician with me?
Rossi: I'll take a stab at it.
Reid: Heh. Stab.
Prentiss looked at Reid, holding back a laugh. Oh, Reid. Rossi and Prentiss headed out of the BAU Conference Room
END SCENE INT. BAU INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY (Scene 4.8) START SCENE
Dahmer and Canmore sit at the table, talking in a hushed tone. As soon as Prentiss and Rossi enter the room, they stop talking. Prentiss and Rossi look at each other
Rossi: Canmore, the jig is up, my friend. The evidence is being shown to the big boss, you know the one who lives in a fancy white house on Pennsylvania Ave, right now. You're not going to be in Congress anymore.
Rossi: You're definitely going to prison for election fraud.
He looks at Prentiss, then back at Canmore
Rossi: Probably for arranging the murders of Mara Brenton
Rossi puts the crime scene photo of dead Mara on the table Rossi: Patricke Earle
He repeats the same action with Earle's photo
Rossi: and Roy Brennan
Again, he places the photo on the table
Rossi: Now, we could just charge you with murder outright- but I mean, come on Prentiss- do you think this old guy is capable of shooting three people?
Prentiss: No, no, I don't think he had the balls
This comment emasculates and infuriates Canmore, who sits upright in his seat, mouth ajar. Their strategy is working
Rossi: Help yourself out, Fred. Who's your 'guy'?
Canmore: I have not the slightest idea was you are referring to
Dahmer: My client has nothing to do with any of this. Unless you can show me his prints on a gun, We're done here
Prentiss: Prints on a gun?
Prentiss opens her case folder and pulls out a sheet
Prentiss: How about copies of emails between Brennan and your client, detailing exactly how they were going to rig the election in your client's favor?
Dahmer puffs up his chest.
Dahmer: We'd like to make a deal.
Rossi pauses
Rossi: Give us the identity of your hitman and then maybe we'll talk deal
Prentiss slides a yellow legal pad and pen towards Canmore and then taps it twice. Canmore looks at his lawyer, and then back at Prentiss and Rossi and sighs, knowing he's done for. He grabs the pen and begins writing.
