Cho wiped the examination table down for what seemed like the third time that night. What was it about full moons that made everyone crazy? She tossed the rag in the sink. She had finally gotten used to working alone at night. When she'd started this clinic, she'd thought Ernie and her were going to be together forever. That had gone sour way too quickly, leaving Cho alone and slightly overworked. She loved the job though, loved helping those who couldn't help themselves.
She started walking towards the wall of cages when a loud 'thunk' outside startled her. A few of the creatures made loud noises having been spooked. She quickly started calming them, wondering what could have caused the noise. She paused a moment to see if it was just someone throwing something away in the dustbin.
When she heard what she could only describe as a howl of pain, she grabbed her bag and raced out to the alley. She wasn't sure if the howl was human or not, it didn't matter, something or someone was in trouble. It was her job to help them.
Having a vet clinic in Knockturn Alley had never been her career plan, but here she was doing just that. She had realized there was a gap in the wizarding world. Everyone wanted to help the cute animals, the cats and nifflers. Someone needed to tend the strange creatures that frightened most people. Hagrid was one of her top clients, mainly because Cho knew when to keep her pretty mouth shut.
She pushed open the heavy metal door leading outside. There lying on the ground was a figure about the size of a human girl. Only this one had a pair large white wings over themselves. The wings were tattered and splattered with red. Cho gasped. She'd never seen anything like this before. Maybe it was a spell gone wrong?
"Hello?" she called softly. The creature raised their head. Cho could see long red hair cover their face, a tattered white gown covering their body. The creature scurried away from Cho, hiding behind the dustbin.
"It's alright, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm a doctor, I know how to take care of your wings. They're broken, aren't they?" she asked, taking a slow step towards the dustbin. The creature raised their head again, looking at Cho with large blue eyes. Cho waited, watching to see what they would do. She was fairly certain the creature was female, but didn't want to assume. Creatures weren't always what they appeared.
The creature had a humanoid body, including a small set of breasts. Cho's mind immediately pulled up images of something muggles caused angels. She didn't put much stock in those ideas, but maybe, it was time to change her mind about that. The creature sitting in front of her looked very much like an angel in a tattered white dress.
"Can you speak?" Cho asked. The creature shook their head rapidly and looked down at the dirty ground. Slowly they grabbed an oily looking stick and started writing on the ground.
"Ginny? Your name is Ginny?" Cho asked, reading it. Ginny nodded, looking at Cho, with a leery expression. Cho recognized it as one of distrust, but hope. She'd seen it before.
"Alright, Ginny. How about you come inside, I can get you cleaned up? Fix your wings?" Cho offered, wondering just where Ginny had come from. The thunk she'd heard must have been Ginny falling from somewhere, the sky maybe? How was that even possible? Was it possible?
Slowly, Ginny climbed to her feet, swaying badly. Cho rushed forward to help hold her up. She half walked, half carried the creature into her clinic. Once inside, she sat Ginny down on the exam table.
"Can you read?" she asked, wondering is she could get more information about Ginny if she could get the angel to fill out a patient form. Ginny nodded, taking the offered form and quickly starting to scribble on it. While Ginny did that, Cho studied the pair of wings sticking out Ginny's back. They were attached to her spine, thankfully that part wasn't damaged. There was a decent amount of blood, but as Cho cleaned it off, she started to realize it hadn't come from Ginny.
Ginny reached over and tapped Cho on the shoulder, holding out the form. Cho took it looking it over. Ginny had circled female as her sex and written a long paragraph about what had happened. She'd rebelled against Heaven. In doing so, she'd been cast out, her voice removed, and now she wasn't sure where she was.
"So you are, well, were an angel. Nice to know the muggles got something right. Ginny, you're in a place called Knockturn Alley at my veternarian clinic. I take care of sick and injured animals. That's why I can fix your wings. I'm not sure about the rest of you, I've never worked with humans before. Are you hurt anywhere else?" Cho asked. Ginny shook her head and gave Cho an awkward looking smile.
"Your left wing is broken but I can set it. It will heal, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to fly properly again. Would you like me to do that?" Cho asked, thinking this was the first time she had a patient who could give consent themselves. Ginny nodded.
"I'm going to give you a small shot to help numb the pain while I work. Is that alright?"
Ginny nodded again and Cho set to work fixing the angel's wing. Thankfully the break was clean and Cho was able to set it quickly. She had Ginny fold her wings down and wrapped it to keep it from moving while it healed.
"There you go, you'll have to keep it still so heals properly," she explained. Ginny nodded, looking around. She pointed to a cage against the far wall.
"That's a jackaloupe. Someone found it injured and brought her here," Cho explained. Ginny slid off the table, still swaying a little, but more sturdy on her feet than she had been when Cho had found her. She walked over and reached through the bars of the cage. The jackaloupe crawled over to her.
"Careful, she can bite," Cho warned, taking a step towards Ginny to intervene if she needed to. Ginny smiled, petting the creature gently. The lagomorph almost seemed to purr at the angel's touch. Cho watched in wonder as the jackaloupe's injured leg healed before her eyes. Ginny withdrew her fingers from the cage and moved onto the next one, slowly healing each and every creature in Cho's care.
Finally, she turned her attention back to Cho. Ginny grabbed a sheet of paper and quickly scribbled a note, showing it to Cho.
"You healed them all. I saw. What do you mean you want to heal me next? I'm not broken," Cho stated. Ginny let out a sound almost like a laugh. She walked over and touched Cho's chest, right where her heart was. Cho blushed looking down at Ginny's hand, at the beautiful girl she had rescued from the alley. Slowly, Ginny leaned in closer and brushed her lips against Cho's. The kiss sent Cho's head reeling and soon she was in Ginny's arms returning it. Ginny having done exactly what she'd said she was going to do, healed Cho's broken heart.
