Chapter Sixteen: We're McDucks… DON"T Expect Us to Sit This One Out!
"I a D!" Louie complained loudly as he tossed his handful of Go Fish cards down on the table. (A/N: He's announcing he is bored while spelling the word out...only the website won't let me do that! *insert angry face*)
Huey sighed at that, dropping his own hand down as well. Apparently the only thing down there to entertain themselves with was an old beat up deck of Go Fish cards...after three days though of endless Go Fish games everyone was sick and tired of the game. "Isn't there something else we can do Mrs. Bleakley?"
Mrs. Bleakley, who was cooking up some lunch already for them, turned to face the children, a sigh escaping her. "Sorry boys. That's the only game we have down here. Your uncle Scrooge was thinking more on the lines of functionality than entertainment."
Groans escaped all of them as they slouched forward, cards falling all over the table as they dropped them. Lena raised her hand up, frustration tinging her voice. "Can't you let us go back out to grab more board games or something?"
"No. You five will just have to figure out another game or something. Don't any of you know how to play Old Maid?" Mrs. Bleakley turned around to find that none of the children were there. "Honestly... I'm surprised that they haven't snuck out days ago."
"Maybe we should have warned Granny... I mean by now the illusion spell most likely faded by now..." Webby fidgeted as she threw another enchanted stone at the tenebris creaturae that was trying to get close to them.
Lena rolled her eyes as she picked up another stone, which she quickly enchanted. "Keep throwing rocks Webby. Yo! Huey! Louie! Dewey! How's it coming?!"
"So far... horrible. It's like Uncle Donald vanished off the face of the planet." Louie announced as he looked from the handheld mirror that he was using to scry for their uncle.
"I still haven't found anything in Mitch's books that explained why Mom doesn't want us near him." Huey snapped the magic book he was currently flipping through shut.
Dewey stifled a yawn as he looked up from the portal that was spinning at his feet. "Looks like Duckworth is way too busy to come help us..."
"Great…" The girls groaned in unison as they chucked stones at the creatures.
Dewey closed the portal, before turning to face the girls, snagging up a stone that he casually enchanted. "It's getting pretty late… what are we going to do?"
Huey flung the next book on his pile to the side, a grunt of frustration escaping him. "There's supposed to be an eclipse with a full moon tonight."
"So?" Louie pocketed the mirror.
"It's a magical eclipse. And the fact that it is happening during a full moon means that any and all spells cast during it will be manifested by tenfold." Huey rolled his eyes at Louie, even as he pulled another book closer to him. "According to this… there's some sort of prophesy that is supposed to take place during this phenomenon."
"Well…what is it?" Dewey moved closer to Huey, sitting down on the edge of Scrooge's statue.
"I don't know."
"You don't know?! But it might help us with this problem!" Webby nearly strangled her friend, exasperation flooding off of her.
Before Huey could respond to that, the ground they were standing on suddenly started to darken. "The Praecantatio Eclipse is upon us!" The children raised their heads up to stare at the full moon that was crossing in front of the setting sun.
"So…does this always happen when the sun is setting...?" Lena asked causally, eyebrow raised.
All eyes turned to face her. "Aren't you the magical know how in our group?"
"Uh…no? Magica never bothered teaching me anything about magic." Lena shrugged clearly not at all disturbed by her lack of knowledge.
"So what are we supposed to do?" Webby asked as she inched closer to Huey as the shadow of Scrooge McDuck's statue stretched further out.
Minima Le Strange swooped into view, her eyes flickering over to Lena. "Lena! You ungrateful brat get over here this instant!"
Lena groaned at that, before turning to face her friends. "We've got to do something!"
"Like what!?" They yelled in unison. Huey took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. "It's not like we can yell out Solis!"
"Stella lucem!" (Louie)
"LUNAE LUMEN!" (Webby)
"Lucerna lux!" (Dewey)
Lena took a step back in surprise upon noticing that as they yelled out the different types of light, that said light gathered above their heads. Their voices blended together as they called out in perfect harmony… "Converge intueris abyssos lux in tenebris!" The four separate balls of light converged together, before shooting forward, overpowering Minima and her minions.
"No way… the Pure Light spell! No one has ever been able to successfully recreate it since it was first written by the Arcanum quadruplets over a thousand years ago!" Lena gushed as she eyed the magic as it surged around the villains.
"That's nice…" Huey gasped out right before he fainted, along with the others.
Lena hurriedly knelt down next to them, gently shaking Webby awake. "Webby!"
"I'm fine… who are the Arcanum quadruplets anyways?" Webby rubbed sleep out of her eyes.
Lena smiled as she recalled that information. "No one knows for sure. Just that they were four siblings, I did look up their names though!"
"Really? What are their names then?" Huey asked as he brushed imaginary dust off of his sleeve as he sat up suddenly.
"McDuck, Vanderquack, Coot, and the last one was Gladwall." Lena counted off of her fingers.
"Hey wait a minute! Coot and McDuck are last names that our family uses!" Dewey has now joined the land of the living.
Webby glanced over to Louie, who was wide awake now as well. "I happen to know for a fact that there is a detailed family tree located in the office… and I think I noticed Gladwall on it once…"
With that said, the children ran to the office to look at the family tree. Huey jabbed his finger against the wall hanging. "There! Gertrude Gladwall married Clinton Coot!"
Louie fumbled slightly, pulling out his mirror once more. "Hold on! Let me see if I can't scry our family line back to the Arcanum quadruplets." A minute later, he silently handed the mirror over to the others. "Um… yeah. Apparently the Arcanum quadruplets changed their names into last names for their respective families as they scattered across the world… and um…eventually they kind of started to marry back into the family, but don't worry! They were all distant cousins to the point of not even knowing about that relation…." Louie paused, fidgeting just slightly.
Dewey gestured at the family tree. "What about Vanderquack? Did his or her family line get back in with the others?"
"Funny you should ask that…. according to what I had scried…Mom married a descendant of Vanderquack thus bringing that line back in…"
"Cool." "I just remembered that my last name is Vanderquack! Maybe I'm a distant cousin too!?"
Louie groaned, before shoving the mirror back into his pocket. "Or while I was scrying our family tree it was revealed to me that the Fourth Egg was female not male…and apparently it's you sis…" Louie counted in his head to four waiting for Webby's response.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Webby lunged herself forward, quickly yanking her friends…no brothers into a tight Webby approved hug.
A/N: Done! Next chapter we'll work on getting the busy adults back. Oh…and Mrs. Bleakley as well. On the bright side! Louie figured out who their sister is! And Webby just as to hug her brothers. As well as an explanation on why it has to be them and not another set of quadruplets. They're literally four different magical bloodlines in one. No one else can say that!
Reviews:
iHateFridays: Did you honestly think they'll stay there when there is a literal adventure taking place right above them?
GiddyReflections: Here's what happened next! Thank you! How confusing does the two families seem now that we have this chapter?
Angelwings2002: Thank you! Thank you!
