TEN
Edward races to cover us with the sheet as Alice stands in the kitchen across from us.
"Alice? What's wrong?" I wipe the sleep from my eyes sitting up, covering my naked body.
I feel Edward's hand on my back, drawing small circles. Can he not read the room?
"Jasper," he runs a hand over her face, "I can't do this with him. We can't."
"What happened?" I ask trying to find any sign of nearby clothing.
Edward's hand has worked its way to my thigh, dipping dangerously low. I shoot him a side-eye look, but he is watching Alice as if he isn't attempting to touch me inappropriately as his sister rants before us. Give me strength, Lord.
It's all on the lounge room floor. Too far out of reach. I bite back a gasp as I feel his finger slide down to rub my clit, already finding my arousal.
"You know he said he loves me. Well I love him too. But more than I think I'm prepared to feel," she says, "Edward, get out. I don't want to talk about this with you."
I turn to look to Edward who groans sitting up.
"Tonight, come to my place," he leans forward to kiss me swiftly before getting up from the bed.
Stark naked he gives zero shits. Honestly, if I had a body like that I wouldn't too. He is beautiful.
"Jesus," Alice shouts covering her eyes turning to face the kitchen.
I giggle as he collects his clothes shrugging them on taking his time about it to make Alice squirm.
While I simply enjoy his show I notice he's got a morning friend that I wish I could attend to. His hair is a mess, his voice still thick from sleep. I wanted to wake up to this every morning.
"Hurry up and cover it," Alice calls out.
"It's not like you haven't seen it. Now it's just bigger. Bella can attest to that," he laughs.
"Gross," she screams.
Edward is full clothed again but says nothing. Instead, he leans over the bed and kisses me again.
"Tonight. I'll text you the address," he whispers.
"Okay," I nod smiling.
"I'm decent," Edward moves toward the exit smiling back at me, but he makes an effort to stop and hug his sister, "if you need me to beat him up just say the word."
"Jasper would put you on your ass," Alice scoffs.
"It's still my brotherly duty to offer," he kisses her cheek, making my heart melt.
When he leaves Alice throws me my shirt. Thankful for the coverage I pull it on. It's long enough that it covers everything else when I stand. I race to the closest, pull on some sweats and return to her crying on the couch.
"What happened?" I ask, taking her hand in mine.
"I think I'm pregnant," she whispers.
At first, I think I misheard her. But by the look on her face I know I've got it right.
"And you told Jasper?" I guess.
"No, but when he told me he really loved me, he saw us as end game. I freaked out. Big time. I'm late and I felt sick this morning," she bites her lip.
"Okay we need to take a test then," I say, "don't worry. You might just be a bit late for some other reason."
"I'll race to the chemist before work and get you one," I stand up, "just stay here, watch TV and relax."
"Maybe I should come," she anxiously plays with her hands.
"No," I shake my head, "stay. I can't drag you around the chemist crying like that and buy you a pregnancy test."
"Drug store," she corrects.
"You two have to stop translating me," I roll my eyes.
It's a 20 minute round trip to bring back the test. Once I read her the instructions and she peed we sat anxiously in the bathroom waiting for the result. She sits on the floor, back against the shower screen. While I sit on the bathroom counter with her pee stick beside me.
"If this is positive what will I do? My parents will freak, Jasper will hate me, I'll lose my business," she buries her face in her hands.
"Hey. None of that will happen," I shake my head, "I have yet to meet Jasper but he sounds like a decent guy. Like he cares. Your business will be fine. Just no bar tables for a bit. And we'll deal with the parents one step at a time," I say, "let's just focus on the facts. At the moment you might be pregnant."
"The might terrifies me," she mutters.
"We'll do it together, beautiful," I nod, "I've got you."
She reaches up to take the test and lets out a loud cry, burying her head in her knees.
"Oh god. Jasper is going to hate me. Don't tell Edward," she shakes her head, shoulders shaking, "Oh, please. He'll freak out."
I climb off the counter and kneel down to cuddle her.
"I'm going to call in sick," I say rubbing her back, "We're going to get some ice cream and watch reruns of Gossip Girl. It's okay."
"You don't have to," she shakes her head.
"It's fine," I pull out my phone and begin to call Sandy.
Thankfully she's understanding and lets me take the shift off without too much drama. I set Alice up on the couch with a tea, blanket and pillow. I hand her a bowl of chocolate ice cream before snuggling under the blanket beside her.
"Do I tell him?" she asks quietly.
"Eventually you'll need to," I nod, "but right now let's just take it easy. It's happening. There's a human inside you. We'll book a doctor appointment for tomorrow and we'll go make sure the test wasn't a false positive. Then we'll figure it out."
I grab at my phone while Alice lies down over my lap with her pillow below her head, getting comfortable. I lightly stroke her head.
"I'm going to let Edward know I can't come. I'll say I'm sick," I say.
"No. Go," she shakes her head, "if you stay here Edward will flip out and he'll come over himself. I don't want to see anyone right now. I sort of want to be alone."
"Are you sure?" I ask.
"Positive. Just because my life is falling apart doesn't mean yours has too," she sighs.
"My father just lost everything we've ever built and I've got no money," I remind her.
"Touche," she scoffs, "forgot about that."
"It's easy to," I laugh, putting my phone back down.
"Is she really okay?" Edward looks at me concerned.
"Yeah. She just had a fight with him," I say.
It's not a total lie.
We sit on his couch, my legs are thrown comfortably over his lap. His home was incredible. The loft apartment was the ultimate bachelor pad with a brick interior, dark wood finishings and massive factory-style windows overlooking the city. Basically Dan Humprhrey's apartment but way better. His fireplace is roaring, cackling as we snuggle close. It was simply perfect.
"Right," he doesn't believe me, but he drops it, "well I have almost finished the meat."
"Meat? Wait, you cooked for me?" I raise an eyebrow smiling.
"I thought we could have a nice dinner and watch a movie," he shrugs, moving my legs so he can stand, "go get comfy at the dining table. I'll bring it out."
"I could get used to this," I call after him as I do what I'm told, taking a seat at his large dining table, the dark wood looks expensive, "you're not even wearing a 'kiss the chef' apron."
"If you want to kiss the chef, by all means, do so," he laughs, "If you really want to show your appreciation I accept other forms of affection too."
He returns to place a plate before me. It looks delicious, plated as if it came from a 5-star restaurant.
"Wow," I smile, "this looks amazing, Edward."
He sits at the head of the table beside me, close enough to reach out and take my hand as we eat. We sip wine, flirting between bites. He polishes his meal off quickly.
"Hey," I laugh as he takes a bit of meat from my plate, "that's mine."
"You're such a slow eater, Angel. I get hungry waiting for you to finish," he smiles, "you're like Alice. As kids, we had to wait for her to finish before we could be excused. Emmett would kick her under the table whenever she spoke to our parents because she wasn't eating."
"You guys are the most chaotic siblings I've ever met. My brother and I weren't even near as explosive," I say, "we argued over who got the TV remote."
"Oh we argued over that too," he nods smiling, "only Emmett and I teamed up because we always wanted to watch the same thing. But Alice was always the favourite so she won. She simply started crying like we were picking on her."
"I did that too," I laugh, "Dad couldn't resist the tears."
"Do you have work tomorrow? Classes?" He asks.
"Nope. I'm free until tomorrow night then I have a shift at the bar. I do have an assignment I need to get a start on," I lightly push my plate toward him full.
I decide to skip over the doctor appointment we booked for Alice. He smiles picking up his fork, beginning to polish off the remainder.
"Interesting. So there's no commitment stopping you from staying the night?" he asks.
"I mean I should go home. To check on Alice," I shrug.
"We could send my brother to check on her," he offers, "or Rosalie even."
"I honestly think she wants to be alone," I say, "I'll call her."
Thankfully she's fine. She is crying but it's because she is watching Greys Anatomy. She insists I don't come home, urging me to stay and continue to get to know her brother because our dating reminds her of two of the characters on the show. I promise to see her tomorrow at the doctor's appointment.
"Okay then," I say slowly, "I'll let you get back to it."
"Fuck, Derek," she shouts before hanging up.
"She's doing well," I smile at Edward, "let me wash all this up. Pick a movie?"
"Are you joking? Go get on that couch," He laughs taking my plate from me, standing.
I roll my eyes and follow him into the kitchen anyway. He begins to run the water in the sink, placing our plates in there. I move close to him pushing him slightly with my hip so I can get my hands into the sink, taking the sponge from his hand.
"I think not," he laughs wrapping his arm around me so my back is pushing against his chest, "I told you to go sit on the couch. You think I'm really going to cook and make you clean up after I asked you here. This was meant to be a night to treat you."
He pushes my hips against the sink, leaning down to kiss the crook of my neck. With a clang I drop the plate I'm holding against the bottom of the sink. Biting my lip I push my ass back against his groin, already noticing the presence of his arousal. As his hands push up my shirt I grip the edge of the sink, trying my best not to slip to the floor.
I twist my head so I can look over my shoulder at his face and once I catch a glimpse his lips crash into mine. Reaching my hand up I hold the back of his head, just in case something dares to pull him away from. To prevent his kiss from stopping. He doesn't even care that my hand is soaked, the water dripping onto his face. I don't care when he turns me, lifting me so I'm sitting on the edge of the sink, my pants become soaked. The sink is not the only thing causing it.
Gripping my ass he tugs me so my core is in line with the bulge in his pants. His hand snakes down, rubbing me through my pants. Moaning I tug on his shirt until he lets me pull it up over his head. I throw it to the floor before he tugs at my own shirt, ripping it off at a pace more rushed than mine. He growls at the sight of my deep blue bra, making me happy I'd ditched the lady bugs.
He buries his face in my chest like a playful child, kissing my cleavage. As I laugh he accidentally shoves me too far into the sink. I squeal, feeling the water soak my pants.
"Shit, sorry," He wraps his arms around my waist pulling me up out of the water, placing me back on the floor.
"We got a little carried away there. By we I mean me," he laughs.
I start to unbutton my jeans and push them down my legs. He raises his eyebrows at the matching panties. While he's momentarily stumped I turn back to the sink dipping my hand in the water, to flick some water at his face. He immediately jumps at the challenge grabbing me by my waist, tugging the hand held spray from the sink he sprays it down my body. Laughing and screaming I squirm against him.
How my life went to such disaster to this form of perfection, I'd never know for sure. But I'm certain it has to do with this man. As we break into a water fight in the middle of his kitchen I wonder if falling this quickly was another inevitable mistake, but right now it didn't feel wrong. It felt like the first right thing I'd done since arriving here. Call me crazy but It felt like he was meant to walk into my life. I really wanted to make sure he wouldn't walk out of it again.
