As the non-British population of New Windsor grew the settlers that had been striking off into the wilderness began to attempt to establish their own nations in the wild of the planet. Most of the micro-nations surrendered to the British when any force was sent off to deal with the farmers and settlers that had declared sovereignty while most have faded into history as little less then training exercises for the First New Windsor Regiment three have been carved into the memory of New Windsor with blood and slaughter with all having become the focus of uncountable alternate history books.
The Free Czech Republic, the Kingdom of New Ukraine and the Workers State of Marx were the only states that put up resistance to the British on New Windsor and they were crushed brutally. The farm used as the heart of the Free Czech Republic burnt for three days as the British eliminated any and all survivors of the rebellion. The Kingdom of New Ukraine held the British off for the longest fighting three battles before the assault on the cave system used as the 'royal palace' where the British would fight for three days before wiping the New Ukrainians out in a shootout with the King of New Ukraine. The Workers State of Marx was founded by French left wings radicals fleeing into the wilderness with a group of miners and other menial labourers that they had managed to radicalize. The group declared that the name of New Windsor was an imperialist relic of the reactionary monarchy of the United Kingdom and announced that the planet and the workers state that would form it was to be renamed Marx. The group gathered arms and prepared to as their speeches put it liberate the planet of Marx from her colonial oppressors and bring about the eternal socialist revolution of the proletariat working class. The British routed them in the first skirmish and the French were deported while the workers were sent to prison.

The first settlement on New Windsor beyond Nouveau Normandy was on the island of New Ulster ironically settled by Irish from the South rather then from their new home's namesake. The island is small with only three cities above 10'000 people the first settled was New Belfast followed by New Dublin and finally New Cork. New Ulster's neighbour to the south New Tasmania had a very different course to the many other islands and continents on New Windsor instead of being settled by the British the island was bought by a group of Australian environmentalists and they procced to make it a nature reserve. The new owners transformed the island into a vison of its namesake bringing native plants and animals to populate the isle including several Thylacine's helping the survival of that iconic Tasmanian animal to this day. While today New Tasmania is under the control of the government of New Windsor it continues to remain a vital nature reserve and even holds the largest Nox settlement on New Windsor following the treaty of Gaia.

The Austro-Hungarian empire cared little for the Stargate at first Emperor Franz Joseph was in a better spot then his fellow Emperor to the north when he fainted, so he survived the fall. When the British intervened in the Balkan war the support that the Austro-Hungarian's had been passing to the Ottoman Empire stopped abruptly as they saw how brutal the British intervention had been to their ancient rival. Following the decision to allow non-British nationals to move to New Windsor the Austro-Hungarian empire commenced a propaganda campaign to convince their more troublesome ethnicities to go and settle a brave new world. Many would accept this with thousands of Czechs, Hungarians and Slovaks moving from the ancient Hapsburg Empire to New Windsor as the more troublesome members of the major ethnic groups left as many knew that New Windsor would hold a fresh start for them.
As some of the more troublesome members of the Empire slowly left the Hapsburg empire the Empire entered a period of desperately needed period of reform with Archduke Franz Ferdinand leading the charge with announcement of his support for the proposal of the United States of Greater Austria. While this would tense the relationship between the Emperor and his nephew the House of Hapsburg stayed united. Despite the hope of reform in the Empire the ethnic minorities were bubbling with anger the Serbs demanded that the Austro-Hungarian empire join the Sofia protocols much as Romania had commenced negotiations with the former Balkan League to join the economic union. The Empire was on the verge of the reforms that define the modern Balkans and many hoped that Franz Joseph would see them commence but 21st of November 1916 Emperor Franz Joseph died and his nephew Archduke Franz Ferdinand ascend to the many titles of the House of Hapsburg the reign of Ferdinand the VI and II had begun.

The Third French Republic was one of the nations most affected by the discovery of the Stargate with their right-wing political parties collapsing into two major groups the Patriots and the Napoleons the left-wing in the form of the Radical-socialist party secured control over France for the next ten years. The Left-wing government diplomatic stance evolved into a very pro-Britain stance following the many discoveries of the United Kingdom on New Windsor the Entente cordiale singed in 1904 had planted seeds of an alliance between France and the United Kingdom and the Radical-Socialist's expanded on it. Following Germany allowing the United Kingdom to build part of the Cape to Cairo railway through Tanganyika the French saw a potential opportunity to construct the Dakar to Djibouti railway connecting their west African holdings and their port on the Red Sea together.
A major hurdle for the French was the new Anglo-German alliance connecting their two ancient rivals into a block that threatened the French if it drew any closer. Some of the more radical members of the Radical-Socialists proposed forming a unified alliance between the British, Germans and French and if possible, the Russians and Austro-Hungarians. The still divided Right-wing of French politics and the more patriotic members of the Radical-Socialists all united to oppose the measure since it would require that the French permanently cede Elsass-Lothringen to the Germans. Those who had proposed the measure withdrew the proposal from the French Parliament but their dream of what one member called it a European Union lived on and would thrive soon in the future.

The end of the brief Premiership of Herbert Asquith began when Francis Fisher introduced his second proposal to grant women the vote while Asquith personally opposed it large parts of his party disagreed with him. Led by Winston Churchill and David Lloyd-George a large portion of the party voted for the proposal alongside the Labour Representation Committee throwing their support behind the bill the Voting reform act of 1914 passed the House of Commons and went on to the House of Lords. Asquith resigned the Liberal party voted upon his successor while some supported Winston Churchill he ended any hope of his Premiership at that time by throwing his support behind David Lloyd-George and he officially became the leader of the Liberal Party and he headed to the Palace to receive King George V's support as Prime Minister. When he arrived at 10 Downing Street for the first time, he and Herbert Asquith received word of events across the channel.

The latter half of 1914 would be dominated by a single event that divided Europe for three months as the world saw how close Europe had been to war. Prince Maximillian of Baden heir to the Grand Duchy of Baden had been visiting Elsass-Lothringen for a holiday and some of the more nationalistic French citizens of the region saw this as a chance to strike against the government that they saw that one of the symbols of the state that oppressed them was nearby and they grabbed the chance with both hands. The Prince while visiting the city of Strasbourg passed by the Cathedral that dominated the centre of the city and the assassins struck two French nationalists Olivier Rochette and Rémi Cordonnier ran forward and shot the Prince three times through the chest and twice through the head killing him instantly the August crisis had begun.
