Hi guys! This is Chapter 2, hope you enjoy it! Please leave polite constructive criticism.
Just letting y'all know that the reason I started writing Fanfics was because I wanted to improve my writing skills. My writing is most definitely NOT the best out there and I fully acknowledge that.
One more thing, this website is a place where writers can expand on an idea, and elaborate on it through a story. I know that I exaggerate Sokka's feelings toward Katara, but it's called fiction for a reason. If you aren't happy with what I write, then tough luck. Click on another story.
P.S. I'm really bad at dialogue so that's why I took a lot of time. Sorry:(
I own none of the characters mentioned. Just the story and plot.
He had just finished polishing his epic sword moves when Sokka felt Zuko approach him.
"Hey buddy."
Zuko's raspy voice flashed him back to their Boiling Rock adventure. Sokka realized how much fun he had with Zuko. Maybe it was because they were the same age, or maybe that they're similar people, but Sokka had always felt so comfortable with him. Well, maybe not when Zuko was a furious stalker that was obsessed with screeching "HONOR" every nine seconds.
"Hey there Sifu Hotman! How's it hanging?" Sokka chuckled as he heard Zuko's growl.
"If you meant 'How's it hanging?' as in Aang hanging upside down from a tree, then terrible. It's hanging terribly." Zuko sat down next to Sokka. They lounged comfortably with each other. Their muscles relaxed as they stared at the sunset.
"This is nice. It's been a while since I've sat next to a friend." Sokka mused. He got up from the water fountain's ledge and rinsed his face. As he stared at his reflection, he didn't hear what Zuko asked him.
"Sokka? Sokka? Are you ok? Ugh... I can't believe I seriously thought you said I was your friend." Zuko stared angrily at the sun's disappearance.
"What?! Ohh sorry Zuko! I zoned out. What did you say?" Sokka quickly rushed to the temples edge, afraid to miss out on a rare conversation with his favorite firebender. Zuko stared at the Warrior apprehensively. As if he was debating on whether he should open up to the only person he considered a companion.
"You said that it's been a while since you sat next to a friend. What about Aang, Momo and Appa? Or Toph, Suki, and Haru? And Katara?" Zuko questioned. At the sound of the last name, Sokka stiffened and it didn't go missed by Zuko. He stared at the Southern Water Tribesman strangely. 'Why would he stiffen?' Zuko thought. Sokka on the other hand was off in his own world, thinking about how to answer Zuko's question.
"I...I don't consider Momo, and Appa as my friends. Suki is with the Kyoshi warriors right now, so I can't converse with her. And as for Aang and Haru, they're more like my colleagues. You know, we have the same type of job- saving the world from your crazy family and all. No offense." Sokka rushed. Zuko snorted looking towards the now dark sky.
"What about Toph and Katara?" Again, Zuko noticed, Sokka stiffened. He didn't say anything about it though.
"Well Toph- Toph is like a sister to me, you know? And you can't really share secrets with your sister, I mean that's kind of weird. Plus, Toph rarely has a proper, mature conversation with me, so I can't really consider her as my friend." Sokka went on and on, avoiding a subject that Zuko now recognizes as his waterbending sister. The young firebender always tried to stay out of other people's business; if he didn't want people poking around in his then why should he bother them? But at this moment, his curiosity got the better of him.
"-she always punches me and points out how strong she is. Though I have to admit it's pretty amusing-"
"What about Katara?" Zuko finally asks. "Don't you consider her as your friend? The two of you have always been together right? First in the South Pole and now traveling around with Aang. You guys probably share secrets right?" Zuko noticed that as he kept talking, Sokka muscles kept stiffening. Using his heat powers, the scarred firebender could feel Sokka's blood temperature increase. He could hear his companion's breathing become quick and unstable. He quickly backed out of the question, afraid of ruining a newly established friendship. "You don't have to answer me you know. I just- I just thought that since you think of me as a friend, I could ask questions. You're my first friend so I don't really know how to pleasantly interact with anyone. Don't worry about it, I was stupid. Sorry... ugh I'm sorry I'm just gonna go now." Zuko prattled.
He was about to leave when he felt a strong hand clasp his wrist.
"I want to answer your question Zuko. I really do. Believe it or not... you're my first friend too." The both of them share a quite laughter; the beautiful sound echoing throughout the temple. The rest of the Gaang's snores were heard by the teenage boys. "Maybe tomorrow, yes, tomorrow I'll tell you. Do you maybe- do you want to talk again tomorrow night? We can talk about anything really, I just want to spend time with the favorite firebender I know! Well, the only firebender I know." Again, the harmonious sound of laughter echoed the temple chambers.
"I would like that Sokka. This was actually nice." Zuko got up, wearing a fond smile.
After sharing one last glance with each other, the two of them seperated and head off to the campsite. This time, both of them would have a peaceful slumber. And when they wake up, they'll look forward to watching the sunset with the one that they call friend.
That's Chapter 2!! Sorry again that it took long. I would like to have Chapter 3 published at most a week after Thanksgiving, but like I said in the beginning of the chapter, I'm terrible at dialogue.
