Prologue

Scamppelt looked at her newborn kits. She was deciding what to name them. Than the one with dark fur like hers made a small cute yapping noise.

"I will name you Yapkit." She said. She looked at the other one. He had been born first, and was a little bigger than Yapkit. He was pale gray with stripes. "And you will be Stripekit." she decided.

Than she heard Squirrelstar summon the clan. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, come to the highrock."

Scamppelt looked at her kits. Seriously? She already had to leave them? She pulled herself up and walked over to the highrock, while Yapkit yapped for more milk.

"Smallstreak died of greencough today, so we are in need of a new deputy." Squirrelstar said sadly. "He served his clan well. I say these words before the body of Smallstreak so that his spirit may hear and approve of my choice. Scamppelt will be the new deputy of Thunderclan."

Scamppelt gasped. Be deputy? Amazing! But… she would have to be a deputy with kits…

"Squirrelstar, I will give up my kits to become deputy. It's too much work to do both."

Everyone gasped. But Scamppelt didn't care. She was doing what was best for the clan.

But she would have to leave her new kits in the care of someone else... She wouldn't get to be their mother… NAW it's worth it! Now she could follow her dream! And help Thunderclan! Let the other cats raise her kits, she was fine.

As soon as she finnished thinking that, she heard Yapkit yapping for her. She turned her back on the nursery and left to become deputy.
