When Apophis got the news of the ruin of Cromwell and his realization that George V was an actual threat to both him and possibly the Goa'uld Empire as a whole he made use of his position in the Goa'uld Empire to call a meeting of all of the System Lords. As they all gathered in the High Hall of Dakara Ra gave the floor to Apophis and he began to explain what he knew of the British Empire and the potential threat they posed to the British Empire. As he revealed how advanced their technology was, the list of the titles that George V held proved of some alarm to the Goa'uld, as the Goa'uld assumed that these titles meant planets not the Commonwealths on Earth. When Apophis returned to his seat all hell broke loose. The Goa'uld System Lords were terrified that the British Empire represented a technologically advanced threat to the Goa'uld. They had always crushed any civilizations that had developed anything more than sickles and other Bronze age farming implements that the Goa'uld found across the Galaxy. The only culture that they allowed in the Galaxy that was technologically advanced was the Asgard and that was due to the Asgard being able to obliterate entire fleets of Ha'taks easily. The Goa'uld System Lords unanimously choose that the many wars raging between the System Lords would end and the Goa'uld would focus on the British Empire wherever they could find them. The full force of the Goa'uld Empire was focusing against the British Empire in order to crush them permanently.
The international effort against the Goa'uld after the Battle of Cromwell returned to their roots of small teams striking out against the Goa'uld and scouting out worlds. The GIET (German Interstellar Exploratory Teams) stumbled across the world of Bismarck. The population of the world had been scoured by the Goa'uld following their overlord insulting Ra when drunk. The few survivors had devolved into a few groups of inbred hunter-gatherers. Compared to the force of the German arms the wooden spears and stone arrow tips of the tribesmen were nothing the tribesmen were shot dead and their corpses placed so that the vortex of the Stargate would disintegrate them. As they withdrew a Ha'tak arrived over Bismarck and a squad of Jaffa ringed down to just in front of the Stargate as the last German withdrew. The Stargate was closed before the Jaffa managed to get through the gate, but the Jaffa thought that they had found the British.
After the near disaster that Bismarck was the British and their allies began to move with more security when they headed to and left the worlds that they scouted. The first IET to deal with the Jaffa expecting them and their defensive tactics that they had used on Nova Mercia was the Natal IET. They had been scouting out the world of Farewell when Jaffa loyal to the minor Goa'uld Ares arrived through the Stargate as the NIET withdrew to the Stargate after scouting the planet. The battle was bloody and the NIETL only managed to escape through the detonation of several Naquadah laced grenades around the Stargate as the Natal soldiers fled through the Stargate.
The incident wherein IET's had to deal with a force of Jaffa increased more and more until it was considered rarer to find a world with no Jaffa then with it. Then Poltava happened. A major world on the borders of Ra's territory it was garrisoned by forces from Ra, Apophis, and Cronus when IIET-1 stumbled through the gate they were facing the largest detachment of Jaffa the British had ever seen. Thus, they called in all the forces they could the Black Watch, Royal Scots, Grenadier Regiment, and the Royal Melbourne Regiment to strike a blow against the Jaffa. The British managed to set up a large perimeter around the Stargate in which they positioned artillery and mobile Death Gliders. As the British and Goa'uld Death Gliders danced in the skies above the British lines the defenders filled the air with plasma as the Jaffa charged. The Stargate was continually operational with the British dialling in from all the worlds under their control to stop any chance of the Goa'uld striking from behind. Then a Ha'tak of Ra arrived over Culloden and drifted towards the Stargate. With the Jaffa getting increased aerial support from the Death Gliders that were held in the Ha'tak it seemed that the British were on the verge of defeat. The Jaffa contained within the Ha'tak began to ring down in front of the British lines and the initial line was abandoned and destroyed through the Lindisfarne Option and the British lines grew closer to the Stargate. Then Bra'tac, Tolkien, and Sigurður Steelfangs took command of the last defensive line and ordered the immediate retreat of all other British forces. The withdrawal was done speedily with everything that could not be taken back through the Stargate in time destroyed in the Lindisfarne Options undertaken to delay the Jaffa. As the British withdrew the Jaffa stormed forward until they reached the last of the British lines under the command of Tolkien. It was there that Tolkien released the last of the weapons that the British had left. The British released Mustard Gas that had been confiscated from the Grozny Concentration Camp and the Jaffa were devasted. The Jaffa were slaughtered with the allowing the last of the British to withdraw detonating several mines and gas canisters. By the time the gas cleared the First Prime of Cronus had died and thousands of Jaffa lay dead in front of the Stargate. The British named the world Poltava after the disastrous defeat of King Charles XII of Sweden for that was what Poltava had been to the British. The battle was the first defeat of the British in the Goa'uld war. The British began to look at other options that they could take against the Goa'uld.

The Snowden plan had initially only covered Britain's East African and Arabian holdings, but it rapidly expanded to cover the entirety of the British holdings not already under a defined government. The west African holdings would all individually become commonwealths. The British pacific holdings would become a single commonwealth with a capital in Singapore. Malaya would be divided into the Federated Malay States and the sultanates while the British strait settlements would be part of the East Seas commonwealth. North Borneo would become a single commonwealth and future state of the United Empire. The Snowden plan swiftly became a core part of the Labour party's colonial platform but remained a solely Labour position.
