A/N: Before I start this chapter, let me just say that things may not make sense or align properly with canon, and that's done on purpose. Let me explain.
So, this story is a complete divergence from the canon storyline. Izuku has power(a) and the actions he makes now can completely change something he didn't act on or do in canon.
So, to clarify, even if Izuku isn't directly involved in something the life of and around a character can completely shift. Like, even if Izuku doesn't interact with them at all here, or has nothing to do with them at all, that person who was fine in canon can have their lives changed by an indirect change here and can be put into a life or death situation.
Does that make sense? You'll see an example of that here, in case it doesn't. I just wanted to explain that before the chapter started.
On a side note, I don't think I can keep up with making all the chapter names revolve around Time in some way. I'm gonna run out of them, haha. So, I'll sprinkle them here and there but I won't make every chapter have a title like that, sorta like this one. Well, I mean, I guess you can argue that this chapter title does have a hint of time related shenanigans' in it, too.
Also, as always, I apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors.
Izuku sat atop the roof of a medium sized building, looking out into an open area below with his feet dangling over the ledge.
He was simply waiting. His Precognition had shown him quite an unsightly situation, which was supposed to happen in exactly seven minutes and forty three seconds from this current moment. It was currently exactly 7:38:29 pm and counting.
How did Izuku know that without looking at a clock? Well, he didn't, at first.
Izuku had barely been able to realize that he could tell time exactly for what it was without any indication or clock. It was something that had seemed to develop subconsciously and without his notice. It was something he was just… using without directly knowing about it.
He only found out when he woke up one morning and looked in the mirror, only to find a transparent clock-like shape in his iris', with hands of a clock seemingly ticking and moving in them in real time as if it were calculating the exact current time, which it was.
That was the moment he had started to check for any abnormalities. His vision hadn't changed and nothing on his had changed visually other than the appearance of the clock in his eyes. At first, he had no idea what was different or what had changed and was willing to chalk it up to nothing but his body experiencing a natural transformation or something to go with his abilities.
But, then, funnily enough, he was supposed to go to the store that day for his mother. He had only found out about the ability because his mother had complained about his tardiness, saying he would have to most likely wait in a line now because he took too long. Then, he sort of just… knew the time.
The story and ability itself aren't that exciting, since it only allows for him to know the exact time whenever he needs it. However, what did intrigue him were the clocks in his eyes.
Since they moved in real time, and went with the exact time it currently was, Izuku naturally wondered what would happen if he used Static. So, in the bathroom one day, he tested it. Interestingly enough, when he used Static, the clocks stopped as if time itself had completely froze, which it did. This meant that the clocks weren't just tracking time around him, but everywhere and around him as well. In the end, he opted to name the ability Clock, since that was all it really was.
Izuku began to wonder what would happen when he, hopefully, unlocked additional abilities as well. Well, he felt like he would eventually, and for a couple of reasons. Reason one was just a hunch, and the fact that he just developed Clock, which definitely leaves room for more to come. The second reason was just that his current arsenal's variety was a little weird. Either way, he would log possible new abilities in his notebook, but not much else.
After all, he had a job to do as vigilante Clockwork.
Being a vigilante for the past while has, more or less, been a pretty good thing. He was happy and proud at the fact, but at the same time quite fearful. He was a pretty well known vigilante now, too, having shown up in many different places to help with a plethora of crimes. He was well known and admittedly well liked amongst the people. It was needless to say that he was making headlines everywhere.
His reasons for happiness and pride are fairly simple: he was able to help people in need. There was already so much he has done, and so many people he's made smile. It just made him happy. He liked to take the two kids he'd met, Himiko Toga and Hitoshi Shinso, as a prime example. He had high hopes for those two, and would continue to keep an eye on them.
His reasons for fear are much more complex. The fact that he was such an active and well known vigilante brought about a lot more danger and attention than he would've liked. Any villain that wanted revenge could easily look into him, and if they were competent they could potentially even find him. It made him uneasy and scared, but mostly for his mother rather than him.
He thought about moving away. He thought about just… leaving and cutting his mother out of his life so she'd be safe. But, the problem was, he didn't exactly have the heart to do that. She would be way too heartbroken, and if he left he didn't even want to consider what would happen to her after that.
He shook his head to snap himself out of that train of thought, deciding to focus on some other things. He remembered going online and seeing himself on the front page of some news articles he always followed. He, admittedly, almost fainted that day. He also remembered watching the news with his mother that day and having to hide his embarrassment from her, since he was beet red in the face.
After that it became more common and he became less and less flustered when he saw stories about himself. Most of the stuff was positive, which he was relieved to see and hear. Most of the negatives came from biased news outlets and heroes that claimed he was a menace and breaking the law. A big anti-supporter was Endeavor, but Izuku could care less about his opinion. Overall though, he was mostly praised and welcomed by the populace for being such a big help, which surprised Izuku but wasn't unwelcomed.
One thing that particularly annoyed Izuku to no end was the fact that, at one point or another, someone had overheard him say his vigilante name. Usually that'd be no big deal, since he was widely known at the time and his name was more or less common knowledge amongst everyday people and even heroes. However, that person had either misheard it or decided the name didn't fit, because later that day he found himself labeled as "Clockblocker" in a news article.
The amount of absolute red Izuku had on his face for the following hour or so was astounding. He was so embarrassed and flushed that he just blanked out. There was absolutely nothing he could do about it.
A few days later he came to find that people made a petition for his name to be changed from Clockwork to Clockblocker, with the petition itself having around 7,709 signatures at the time. From what he knew, a lot of people actually thought the name fit pretty well, but most of them were probably just doing it as a joke. But, no matter how many signatures that petition gets, he will absolutely not change his vigilante name to that.
Another thing that had happened was the fact that his fans were starting to produce items based after him. Nothing official, but fan made items and toys were being made by people and getting sold or exchanged to others. They were typically nothing big, maybe some shirts with words on them saying "Clockwork #1 Fan" or something, keychains, and Izuku swore he saw a plushie as well, based around his current costume, which in it of itself was a complete and utter mess.
He really didn't know how to feel about that. It was another thing he'd been embarrassed about, but inevitably learned to accept. He couldn't really fathom why he was as popular as he was. All he did was help people that needed help, he really didn't think that everyone would ultimately love him for that. He was g doing it for that, after all.
All of that aside, he was pretty successful in doing what he needed and wanted to do with his vigilante persona.
He suddenly shook his head, snapping himself out of his thoughts before glaring ahead. It was time.
He almost expertly maneuvered his way down the side of the building. It was practiced, especially with the amount of times he'd done it since he started being a vigilante. He then began to move toward the place in question.
It was just a normal store, but it would soon be the forefront of a possible disaster. Izuku had foreseen what would happen with his Precognition; a middle school boy, who had been following a girl from his class all day, would attempt to corner said girl and attempt to get her to date him. She would reject him, and with the amount of stress, heartbreak, and mental instability the boy would have in that moment would trigger his Quirk: Self-Detonation. It was not a Quirk to be laughed at; the amount of absolute carnage that explosion could end up causing would stretch for blocks.
He was luckily enough to have been in the area to even foresee that happening. Thanks to that he can save the lives of everyone within the nearby blocks.
He walked up to the building and started to casually lean on the wall, his right leg bent up so his foot was pressed flatley on the wall and his arms crossed. People who didn't exactly know his vigilante costume would think he's some kind of gangster, and if that was necessary to save lives then he didn't care.
He only had to wait for a few moments before the target in question entered the store. His face told Izuku all he needed to know about the guy. Stressed, a tad twitchy and unhinged, among other things did not make for a very great interaction.
Izuku visibly scowled at what the guy was wearing, too. A white shirt with bold black letters on it saying "Clockwork's Biggest Fan". It honestly disgusted him, but that was something he couldn't dwell on right now.
He waited a moment or so after the guy went into the store to follow him. He couldn't just assault the guy without reason, so he needed to wait for the guy to confront the girl.
He, once again, didn't even need to wait that long. The boy had easily located his female classmate, because he'd been stalking her all day, and pinned her against the wall. The girl was physically shaking, having been pulled away from what she was doing so suddenly and now pinned and trapped against a wall by a visually unhinged classmate of hers.
"I love you! Go out with me!" The boy exclaimed as passionately as he could. "You're unrecognized beauty is too much for me to handle! Please, date me!"
He was now starting a scene as people started to stop what they were doing to look over at the commotion. The girl herself was still shaking, pressing herself against the wall as if to try and back away some more, clearly uncomfortable and afraid of the situation. Izuku also considered the fact that she may not be very socially active either, from what the boy had said and her action now.
"I-I-I-I-" she couldn't stop fumbling over the letter, her face getting increasingly red from embarrassment and quite possibly a few other things. "I-I-I can't r-r-return your f-feelings!"
She was eventually able to tell him what she wanted to say, but not before stuttering a bunch more. The boy's reaction was exactly what Izuku had foreseen beforehand; the boy's pupils visibly shrunk as he withdrew his left hand from the wall. His face and eyes were blank as he glanced slightly up at nothing in particular.
"Why…" he mumbled after a moment, his gaze and blank look never shifting. The girl had ended up sliding down the wall, letting her butt hit the floor without much cushion or withdrawal. She helplessly stared up at the boy, still shaking and scared. As suddenly as it could've possibly been, his head snapped down to her, his eyes psychotic and expression blank. He then lunged for her, grabbing the girl's right arm and beginning to yank her toward him, "Why!? I'm the only one that loves you! So love me!"
The girl began to yelp and whimper as the boy kept trying to force her with him, hurting her in the process. During all of this, the boy's skin started to light up in a very unnatural orange, signifying the coming detonation. Izuku found this the most optimal time to do something.
He quickly activated Static, rushed over to the boy, grabbed him off and away from the girls, then proceeded to knock him out. He deactivated the power after that, which frightened the girl again since he just seemingly teleported right in front of her. The unconscious boy fell to the ground, making a pretty satisfying thump as it did so.
Izuku looked at the girl and held out a hand, "Are you alright?"
As the girl kind of just stared up at him, Izuku couldn't help but feel a little bad. He felt like a prick for waiting and letting her get hurt at all, but he also knew that just knocking the guy out for no reason was a warrant for some bad news to spread, and he really didn't want everything getting a bad impression of him and then perhaps being closed off to his help in the future.
It took a minute, but the girl finally reached out and grabbed his hand, letting him pull her up to her feet. "Y-Yes, I-I'm fine," she managed to say through her stuttering.
She steadied herself on her feet, rubbing the arm that had been grabbed and uncomfortably rubbing it. Izuku gave her a sympathetic look, "I'm sorry I didn't act any sooner." He couldn't help but apologize.
She shook her head, as if insisting that he shouldn't be apologizing. "I-It's okay," she stammered, "you couldn't h-help it."
He sighed, surrendering himself to smile at her. He now could focus a little more on her appearance. She seemed to be his age, a tad short and thin as well. As for her general looks, she had honey brown hair, curved inwards in a mushroom-shaped bob that reaches just below her narrow shoulders. Her eyes are also completely covered by a long fringe from her hair.
He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard an onlooker shout, "Woah, is that the vigilante that's on the news all the time!?"
"Who- oh my god it is!"
"Can I get your autograph!?"
Izuku froze as the shouts kept coming. He'd be absolutely swarmed soon, and his ability was still on cooldown. He needed to go.
But, before he hightailed it out of there, he wanted to give the shy girl some last words of encouragement, "I believe in your future! Keep working on your social skills, I believe in you!" And, following that, he sprinted out of there like his life depended on it, leaving the girl a bit shell shocked.
On his way out of the store, he almost ran into a few people, some of which were a part of the forming crowd. He actually did bump into a homeless looking man right before he left the store, and was only able to shout a quick apology before running again.
A few people tried to chase him, but Izuku was able to get on top of a building nearby and those people had quickly lost him. He found a place to lean his back on, sitting down next to it and leaning his head back. He disconnected from his Precognition for a moment just to relax.
Admittedly, being a vigilante was tough, even with his special abilities. He always had the chance of messing something up, whether it be in combat or a blatant action. There was also the fact he was always on the move, constantly putting an end to crimes and the-like. Then there was all the attention he got from being as active as he was, which in it of itself was tiring at times.
Oh and he was also in his early teens, let's not forget that.
It was all pretty exhausting work, but Izuku regretted none of it. He was helping people, and a little stress, worry, pain, and more was a little price to pay for other people's well-being and happiness. In fact, he was content and happy with just knowing that his actions were producing some form of good.
Izuku took in a large breath before letting it all out. It really did feel good to just disconnect every now and again, especially with so much always piling up right after one another.
In fact, Izuku-
Izuku's eyes immediately snapped open upon hearing a faint sound. It was faint, but it was there. He reconnected to his Precognition as soon as he could.
He had barely any time to react after getting his Precognition back up before a long, grey metallic strand of something shot at where his left arm was. He was able to move to the side in time, jumping up from his place and reflexively jumping backwards to gain distance, his protective eye shades getting flung off in the process of his sudden movement. The metallic strand, instead of stabbing the wall, had curved down as if it was going to wrap around whatever had been there.
Izuku, from that observation alone, had been able to identify his opponent: Underground Pro Hero, Eraser Head. The action of the metallic strand was enough to identify that it was a Pro Hero aiming to capture him, since it didn't stab, it wrapped. Then, the metallic strand itself was enough to identify who was behind the ambush itself.
Unfortunately for Izuku, Static was still on cooldown and he was rendered unable to use it. Precognition seemed to still be active though, somehow. Izuku was sure that Eraser Head was using his Quirk right now against him, so why wasn't Precognition deactivating? Was he only erasing his Static ability? Did it only work for one Quirk/ability at a time? Was he even erasing his ability at all? Or was it something else? Questions for later.
The Capture Weapon, which Izuku had identified, had come from straight in front of him. Izuku, again, almost didn't react in time to dodge a swipe from a separate strand. He was able to duck down to avoid it, then he immediately moved to the side to dodge another swipe from the original strand.
Those things moved fast, and Izuku would be lying if he said his reflexes were the best. They really weren't, at all. Sure he had some good reaction time if he knew good information beforehand, but this was an ambush that caught him by surprise. Given the situation, he could only focus on the first few seconds of notice Precognition would give him, too, which made things increasingly difficult.
Then, suddenly, the strands pulled back. Izuku, from his few seconds of notice in Precognition, was able to know that the Pro Hero was charging at him. Izuku steadied himself and readied his stance to hopefully fend off the hero long enough for Static to come back.
When the Pro Hero reaches him, he wasted no time in trying to subdue him. Eraser Head aimed for pressure points and general bodily weak spots, and Izuku was lucky for the first three attacks before he ultimately was unable to dodge Eraser Head's sweep of the legs, which made him fall onto his butt.
Without any delay, the Capture Weapon wrapped itself snuggly around Izuku's body, sitting him up and rendering him unable to move. Izuku groaned in both uncomfort and dissatisfaction of the situation. Izuku supposed that he couldn't exactly blame himself too much for this one, since Eraser Head was a very skilled and expertly trained one-on-one fighter while Izuku's experience was little in comparison.
"So, would you like to tell me why you, a middle school kid, wants to play vigilante." The Pro Hero spoke, hands on his Capture Weapon to ensure Izuku didn't escape.
Izuku only sighed. He knew Eraser Head wasn't a fool by any means and similarly knew that there was no way he would be able to bullshit his way out of any of the observations the hero made. Eraser Head was a logical man, was what Izuku picked up from the research he did, so the man would, of course, be content to go with his gut and observations.
"How'd you find me, Eraser Head?" Izuku asked, genuinely curious as to how he had been located. Up till now he'd been doing a good job, or so he thought.
"You just bumped into me in the store, and before that you took care of the guy I'd been following. There were multiple complaints of a suspicious individual matching his description in the past hour, and with his Quirk being what it is I was dispatched to deal with the issue."
Izuku internally groaned. Of course, that actually made sense. But, he was also confused. He was 100% sure that Precognition told him that the boy would explode and obliterate the next couple of blocks. Would Eraser Head not have acted in time?
"You still haven't answered my question," the Pro Hero spoke, his hair which was previously seemingly floating now dropping down.
Izuku sighed again. Right, the first question. Why he wanted to be a vigilante despite his clear age being that of a middle school boy. Well, wouldn't hurt to be honest, right? "Because I can, that's why."
The Pro Hero visibly raised an eyebrow at that statement. Izuku could tell that he was internally debating the meaning of that statement, which was fine. In fact, it was fantastic, letting the hero think all he wants while Static's cooldown finished. Only a few more moments now, and thanks to Clock he can know exactly when it comes back.
Izuku, before deciding to use Static, decided to solve the puzzle for him. "I act because I have the ability to do so. I hate knowing that people will get hurt when I have the ability to stop it. I'm sure you understand."
Izuku noticed the subtle narrowing of the hero's eyes. Izuku also heard a fairly faint hum from the hero before he spoke, "Even if that's the case, I'm going to have to bring you-"
And that's where that stops. Izuku activated Static, letting him quickly shimmy out of the Capture Weapon's fairly tight grip. When he was free, he wasted no time in making a beeline towards the edge of the building, jumping down as fast as he could before Static's time ran out.
Izuku swore that he had only just made it away, barely hearing the Erasure Hero cut himself off. He'd need to be a lot more careful, next time.
And with that, Izuku retreated. He needed to look into something, anyway.
Shota Aizawa cut himself off almost immediately after the kid in his Capture Weapon's grasp seemingly poofed out of thin air. Shota incoherently cursed himself for letting his guard down.
In the end Shota concluded that the vigilante must have seen his hair drop and took advantage of the opportunity given. Shota, again, cursed himself for that. He'd need to do something about that in the future, maybe cut or tie it so the sign isn't obvious.
But still, he had him. He had him. He was right there, in his grasp, and he let him go. That irked him a lot.
But Shota couldn't help but ask many questions to himself after the very brief encounter he just had with the vigilante Clockwork. He'd been assigned to the case about a month after the vigilante's first appearance, and Shota wouldn't be lying if he said the experience of hunting him down wasn't annoying.
The vigilante was allusive, very allusive, almost too allusive. It was like he knew where he'd be, knew where to avoid, knew where to go to escape without flaw. This played well in part with his many cases. He's solved numerous cases, gotten many different criminals arrested, helped a vast variety of citizens, hell he even tipped the police a few times, all without much of an issue.
That's when Shota decided to do research of his own into the mysterious vigilante. So, he did a lot of digging. He went anywhere that could give him information, both in person and online. A lot of people he spoke to were vague or unsure, which he could do nothing about, but the Internet was where things really got interesting.
Shota looked at theory after theory in conjunction with police archives and recordings, trying to pinpoint what exactly the vigilante's Quirk could possibly be. Teleportation was the most common theory, but Shota knew better than that.
The name Clockwork was what tipped him off, at first. Typically one names themselves off of something about themselves, whether it be Quirk, personality or action, and while the conclusion of it referring to his timing was a good one Shota felt that it was still too small to fit.
Shota was stumped for a while. He had no idea what kind of logical Quirk the vigilante could possess, at all. Even when Shota thought he knew it, he felt as if he didn't. That all changed tonight, when the reason was simply because the Quirk isn't logical at all.
Shota had ended up narrowing down his primary ability to the ability to, in some sense of the matter, stall time. He knew this because he studied footage after footage, carefully analyzing the frames and actions the vigilante did, and found that some actions happened without the vigilante's direct contact. It was a stretch, to be sure, but Shota was fairly confident in it.
Shota suspected that the name Clockwork was referring to something a lot broader than what was presented. If it had been a name referring only to his stalling ability, then why not name it something more narrow.
That was proven tonight, during their brief little faceoff on the roof. Shota had been sure he was completely quiet. The vigilante should not have heard him. Yet, he was able to dodge his Capture Weapon without even directly seeing it, and then proceeded to do it even more times. Shota knew that wasn't normal, and mixed in what else he had seen, heard and studied also was able to conclude that the vigilante was able to see into the future, to some extent.
And to top it all off, when Shota had him in his grasp, wrapped in his Capture Weapon and staring into his eyes, he saw an abnormal object within them. The shape of a ticking clock, present within the eyes of the young vigilante.
That only confirmed everything. Clockwork couldn't just freeze time, oh no, he had power over all of it.
Or, at least, that's what Shota suspected.
Even if this was the case, Shota could not, would not, tell anyone about his discovery. After thinking about what could happen if he told even a single soul, he knew that it was only the logical thing to do. Villains, enemies the vigilante had made would hunt him, research him and enact revenge in some way. Others may be hungry for the power he possessed, seeking to control or steal it for themselves. Even if he just told the police, it was likely they'd file it away or store it in a digital archive, making the information fall prey to any villain that was smart enough to look.
So, Shota would keep the information to himself for now, as he mused the vigilante's possible abilities. What else could he do, was the main question in Shota's mind. Freezing time and seeing the future were very different abilities, not subjugated under one section, meaning that it was likely there were other abilities he was either hiding or hadn't discovered yet.
Either way, as illogical it may seem, Shota had a gut feeling that this was the way things needed to be, for now at the very least. The only person he'd tell this to would be-
Shota was interrupted from his thoughts by a small ring in his earpiece. He brought his left hand to his left ear to listen in on who was ringing him.
"I suppose that everything went smoothly with the suspect?" The voice in his ear asked. Shota knew that said voice was probably going to give him another thing to do tonight by the tone it spoke in, unfortunately.
"The police are apprehending him as we speak, Tsukauchi."
"That's good. Then I suppose you wouldn't mind busting something else tonight?"
Shota wanted to groan, but he settled with pinching the bridge of his nose. He was tried. Well, he was always tired, but more tired than usual today. He'd been thinking too much about the vigilante, he guessed.
With a sigh, Shota responded, "I can. Where is this happening?"
With that, Tsukauchi informed him of the known details and Shota took off. The location wasn't too far from where he currently was, and from his own estimate he should arrive there in only a few minutes.
He didn't think much of anything as he ran and swung across the various rooftops ahead of him. The only thing really on his mind was the kid, but there was nothing that could be done now. And if Shota was being honest, it wasn't like they could bring the kid in anyway. The public grew so attached to Clockwork that if they arrested him they'd throw a fit.
When he finally arrived at the place, it seemed to be a pretty sizable warehouse. Just from on the roof he could hear a vast amount of commotion inside. There was a small window hatch in the roof, letting the light from above shine inside.
Shota glanced down below, seeing a group of around four men backing away from a steel door, all seemingly on the defensive and ready to either attack or defend themselves.
"Holy fucking shit," one of the guys muttered. His breaths were shaky and on edge.
"I think we got the bastard," another said, a bit hesitant but trying to appear confident. "There's no way he's getting out of there."
"Fuck, man, we messed up," another said.
"Yeah- yeah we did. We're in some deep shit now, so let's just call the heroes to take care of this guy and-"
A loud, hard pound against the metal was heard and it made the four men jump in both fear and surprise. More hard pounds followed, almost like something was trying to break out, but to no avail. Eventually, after a few more pounds, it just went… quiet.
At this point Shota had heard enough and decided to take action. He silently opened the hatch and jumped down. He landed on his feet in the middle of the four men, making them jump and gasp in surprise.
Shota wasted no time in erasing their Quirks and using his Capture Weapon to restrain them. All in all, the four men didn't put up much of a fight, if at all, and were easily restrained.
Soon enough he had all of the men sitting on the floor, restrained with capture tape. They could do nothing but look up at him ashamedly, not daring to look at the Pro Hero in the eyes.
"Now," Shota activated his Quirk, his eyes glowing red and hair beginning to levitate up into the air. He found that it was a really good intimidation method, on almost anyone, really. "Tell me exactly what went on here, and what the hell is behind those doors."
A few of the men began to uneasily breath, with one of them actually nervously gasping for air. Shota couldn't tell if they were just guys that went in too deep, or not.
They didn't respond. It annoyed Shota to no end, but from careful observation he could tell that they were panicking. He'd have to wait for Tsukauchi to question them to get anything solid, or anything at all.
With no other leads, he turned around to the metal door. He hesitantly looked at it, admittedly unsure as to whether he should open it. He glanced back at the four guys on the ground, who he knew would refuse to tell him much if anything, then back at the door. Behind the door could be a lead, and even potentially a citizen they trapped inside, who was trying desperately to escape.
So, his mind having been made up, Shota walked toward the metal door. There was a pretty big wheel lock on it, which would only lock and unlock the door from that side by turning the wheel in a specific direction. And, so, he grabbed the wheel and began to turn it to the right, releasing the locking mechanism.
"Wait- no, no! Don't unlock that door!"
Shota didn't have time to process the cry of one of the guys, since the door had made a prompting click to indicate that it had been unlocked. He didn't even have time to react before the door burst open at a rapid speed, hitting Shota back. Hard.
Shota was able to somewhat brace, but the door hurt more than most villain fights he's been in. It made him fly back a great distance, his back hitting the floor, bouncing up once before hitting the floor again and sliding back until he stopped.
Shota quickly regained his senses and sat up, looking over toward the now open door with a sense of readiness. He watched closely as a thin, black appendage made itself visible. The end of it was thin, ending in a point that jutted itself into the ground, making the floor below crack from its penetration. Shota could tell that it was sharp enough to effortlessly pierce his body, and effectively kill him.
Then, another one made itself visible. The two appendages worked together to continue their emergence. After a few more seconds, its body started to become viable. Shota had no idea what he was looking at, but he would admit it shook him a bit.
It's body was essentially a sausage-like shape, utilizing a curved cylinder as its base with two legs on each side; two legs in the front and two in the back. It wasn't too terribly long, though, only about five meters from end-to-end, but it was tall in comparison to most other things.
The actual torso and up was what freaked Shota out the most. It was fatter, at least up until its neck, with everything similarly consisting of the color black, as well as some gray hinted in some other places, and nothing else. It's arms were big, as well; they were muscular and strong-looking, which was probably how it could beat open the door so harshly and bang as hard as it did. The muscles it had weren't normal workout muscles, either. No, they were unnaturally buff and large, mostly due to some kind of enhancement. It's head was small, compared to its arms and hands, and looked a lot like a human head, but due to its body being nothing but black in combination with the time of day, Shota was unable to see any facial features besides the outline of a nose and mouth.
The thing slowly, and almost unknowingly, strolled into the room. It's sharp appendages pierced the ground with each forward step, as it slowly moved further and further into the room. As Shota quietly stared at the thing in front of him, he couldn't help but notice that something was up.
That was when he heard a scream of pure terror. Shota shot his head in the direction it came from, seeing one of the men he had apprehended earlier shaking and crying at the mere sight of the monster. The others around them reacted to their companion's scream with noises or movements of their own.
Almost immediately after the man's scream, an even louder, ear-piercing scream echoed throughout the warehouse. Shota was even tempted to cover his ears due to the echo and high frequency of it. He was able to look at the monster, which was the source of the sound, and could just barely see the open mouth of it. Shining, sharp white teeth lay dormant in there, waiting for the next thing to naw on.
The monster then quickly dashed forward, directly toward the apprehended men. They screamed even more, and Shota was going to act, his Capture Weapon already moving to his hands and his body moving on its own.
"You move, you'll die."
Shota couldn't help but immediately freeze upon hearing a voice, one that clearly wasn't Tsukauchi, in his earpiece. The warning had also been delivered seriously and to the point, which grabbed his attention immediately and made him consider it.
Though he felt disgusted at himself as he watched what happened next. The man that had initially screamed was quickly penetrated by one of the monster's appendages, which then bent in an unnatural way toward its mouth where the monster proceeded to extend it open to yet another unnatural degree and completely bite his head off.
While this was happening, the three remaining men were able to scatter themselves around, and, by the time the body had been dropped to the ground, had shimmied their way into their own separate hiding spots, seemingly out of sight of the creature. Shota was the only one left unmoving in the open, staring at the creature.
"Do not respond to me after I speak to you."
The voice in his earpiece spoke again. Shota vaguely recognized it, but he was unable to piece together who it was or where he'd heard it. Even so, their warning may have saved his life. Plus, it wasn't like he had much of a choice; he would trust them right now anyway.
"I'll spare you the finer details, but this… thing is a human genetic experiment of some kind. It essentially fused many different people's bodies and Quirks into one being, whether they were mutant, transformation, or emitter-type Quirks."
Shota narrowed his eyes ahead at the monster, which was once again back to almost aimlessly roaming around. He supposed that made sense, since he couldn't possibly imagine that this was a natural Quirk or person. It was too… inhuman, to be that. As he thought, he also observed the creature. It was almost like it couldn't see where it was, or where it was going.
"I'm looking into the cause personally, but that doesn't matter right now. This thing, as you've possibly already observed, can only find things through sound. It's completely blind. It's not terribly sensitive to sound, only having it as if it were an ordinary human's sense. This is why it hasn't charged at you despite my speaking, and why I told you not to move before. Additionally, there will be no gain from using Erasure on it."
Shota agreed with the assessment. From what he's seen, the person was completely correct. When it had initially emerged, it seemed lost and unsure as to where to go, like it couldn't see, and still is doing that. Only when the guy screamed did it know any precise location and movements. It also seemed that it's sense of hearing wasn't due to any enhancement or Quirk, so it was all natural, which more or less helped.
"Despite how it looks, besides its four appendages and arms, it's actually pretty weak, durability-wise. Notable weak spots would be its lower body and head; the body is the best way to immobilize it and the head is the best way to kill it."
As the person spoke, Shota observed the creature continue to mindlessly roam the area. It seemed intelligent enough to know it wasn't alone, and that there were other people nearby, so it was actively searching- hunting, for them. The creature slowly started to go by one of the men, who was hiding behind a pretty large pillar. From what Shota could see, the man also realized its method of hunting and was doing his best to stay quiet, despite being petrified and shaking as much as he was. Shota knew he had to act soon.
"You're going to have to put it down, as unfortunate as it is. This thing isn't human much anymore, and it's most likely suffering in its own head. If this thing gets out into the public, there will be dozens of people dead before anyone suitable enough to handle it can put it down. You need to do exactly what I say, to the letter."
Shota's eyes briefly widened in a mixture of shock and surprise. Now he recognized who this was, and the voice. It was the kid vigilante himself: Clockwork. The way he spoke, like he knew what was to happen if things went awry, sold Shota off on the idea. This also meant that some of Shota's predictions were correct, as well. He somehow got access to his comms, but that was something for another time. Right now, he had a job to do.
"On my signal, you're going to charge it. We're going for a quick and easy takedown here. We don't want to draw out this fight; it'll lead to not only your death but many others as well."
Shota silently agreed with the plan, mentally preparing himself to charge under Clockwork's command. He couldn't prepare his body the way he'd like to, out of fear of making noise and ruining the plan. He had faith in his Underground Hero training to help here, too.
Shota merely stood still for what felt like forever, intently watching the creature as it roamed around. It ended up wandering into a more open area, a bit ways away from the pillar it previously stalked around. When the sausance-like body faced Shota's direction, Clockwork spoke again.
"Now."
Shota reacted immediately, his body moving instantly to his own thoughts to charge the creature. The creature similarly reacted, hearing Shota's footsteps and narrowing his location down. It began to charge him as soon as it let out yet another ear-piercing scream. It had ended up wandering a little ways away, so both of them had to charge a bit of distance.
As the gap closed, he spoke again, "Put an end of your Capture Weapon in each hand. When it's close enough, slide underneath its body and sling your Capture Weapon around the tips of the front appendages."
Shota immediately understood what he was insisting her do, keeping up his charge as he put two ends of his Capture Weapon in each hand. When the two were close enough, he collapsed backward and started to slide on his back, barely avoiding a jab that would've gone into his neck. As he started to slide underneath it, he flung the ends of the weapon from his hands toward the appendages. The weapon essentially wrapped and constructed around them tightly, holding a firm grasp on them as Shota slid. Shota let his Capture Weapon extend itself until he fully emeralds from the other side of the creature, in which he stood up and pulled as hard as he could.
The Capture Weapon pulled the appendages toward its underbelly. A mix of Shota's momentum and strength, along with the Capture Weapon's, was able to make the appendages lose their stability on the ground, sliding back as planned and making the creature almost collapse toward the ground. When the front of its lower body hit the ground, it let out a painful shriek. Shota was already in the process of letting his Capture Weapon return to him.
"Dodge to the left, then jump to get on top of it."
Shota was barely able to dodge a jab from the creature's back right appendage. After his narrow dodge he immediately began the process of jumping on top of the creature, once again narrowly avoiding a similar jab from the creature's other appendage.
Shota landed on the back of its lower sausage form, preparing to jump again to reach its neck. However, before he could, he failed to notice one of the bulky arms being swung his way, ending with him being hit by it and getting knocked off the creature, flying a ways away.
The hit admittedly knocked some of the wind out of him, but Shota wouldn't let that stop him. He recovered quickly, standing up after having been knocked down and staring at his incoming opponent head on. The creature seemed to have recovered, standing on all four appendages again and once again charging him.
"Hold position and dodge at the opportune time. Then use that attack to get up."
So, Shota waited for the right time. The creature barreled toward him at an almost unnatural speed, before getting right in front of him and coming to a complete stop. Shota glared defiantly up at the creature before him, as its torso began to bend at an unnatural angle and its arm began to reel back. It seemed to learn that jabs didn't work, so it was going for brute force now.
When the arm came down, Shota was ready. He jumped to the side at one of the very last moments, and took advantage of the opportunity to climb up the creature's body as he was suggested. The creature had bent an unnatural ninety degrees to commit to that swing, making its head even more vulnerable now.
"Place yourself between its neck and arms, and use your Capture Weapon to sofficate it."
With the creature's head still leaning down, Shota got onto its back. He firmly planted himself in the location given to him, and quickly began to wrap his Capture Weapon around the throat of the beast, fighting its hold like a constrictor snake.
The creature reacted immediately, shooting its body upward and losing its balance. It's arms attempted to reach Shota, but were unable to bend back enough to do so due to their unnatural muscles. The creature was stuck wobbling and crying out in a shriek, while Shota did his best to hold on and keep the Capture Weapon in place.
Eventually, after around a minute or so of struggling on both sides, the creature's energy seemed to give, and eventually it collapsed with a hard thud on the floor. Shota also let himself ease for a moment, taking a momentary deep breath before quickly sliding off of the monster's body, wasting no time in finding something to help him make sure that it was dead, by smashing its skull in.
After that, all was done. He let himself fall, after using an emergency number to contact Tsukauchi for help. He was tired, worn out, after that. He let himself catch his breath against a nearby pillar as he looked up at the roof, barely seeing a small fraction of a moving figure before it vanished into the night. The three men from before hadn't fled the scene, and instead started helping Shota however they could.
Shota didn't know what to think, as he heard police sirens getting ever so closer to them. That vigilante wasn't ordinary, he knew that much. Somehow, he knew that he'd be involved with that damned vigilante in the future. He didn't know why, or how, or in what way, he just knew.
Izuku woke up the next morning admittedly refreshed. The previous night's activities were, if one word could sum it up, close. They were too close for his liking. So, after everything that happened, he decided to quickly take his knowledge, evidence, and the like to the police and head home.
It was all more dead ends. The creature from the previous night was nothing more than a failed experiment, left to be contained in the bunker for as long as it could live. The guys that had found it last night were just adventures, not villains, who had just messed with the wrong place.
That creature was… terrifying, to say the least. Izuku foresaw… a lot of different outcomes to the situation, and luckily he was able to guide Eraser Head to the optimal outcome in time. He saw his death… more than a few times. Both of their deaths.
But in the end it was all useless. No leads were gained in the overarching investigation, only information that they were doing human mutation experiments of some kind. But, why?
Izuku shook his head. It wasn't time to dwell on matters like that, right now. As he entered the bathroom, beginning to get ready for the day, he contemplated his day. It was the weekend, and he could already foresee that his day would be interesting. Not necessarily good, or bad, just interesting. He wasn't sure completely, yet.
He'd decided to just go out for most of the day today, do some day work for a bit, turn in for a while, then do some night work. His mom was going out for a lot of the day, so he'd be left to his own devices. Overall it would be a busy day.
With that, he finished his morning routine and promptly dressed in his interestingly made vigilante outfit. Just as he was about to leave, his head began to become… mixed. It was his Precognition ability. It was like it was messing with his head, with images of the future shifting and jumping without any cause or reason. Izuku tried to narrow it down, but his head began to throb and hurt into a migraine, forcing him to stop using the ability.
As soon as he stopped using it, his head began to ease up and settle down. Confusion overwhelmed him in that moment, being unsure as to what to do. The only thing he could think to do, was investigate it. In his head, he saw the epicenter of where the change occurred. A run of the mill alleyway in Musutafu.
He headed out, using rooftops to get to his desired destination, doing his best to navigate without his Precognition active, on guard at all times for anything that could happen. Eventually, he made it there at the time he foresaw the oddity happening.
He sort of just stood in the opening of the alleyway for what felt like a few minutes. Izuku was just confused as to what to do, or what was happening at all. But, he kept waiting, knowing something was to happen momentarily.
Then, not mere moments later, he heard a sound. Further down in the dark alleyway, he heard the sound of faint, rapid steps coming closer and closer to him. He looked, more like narrowed his eyes, down the alleyway, on guard to whatever may approach.
But, a few seconds after, he merely saw a little girl clumsily and hurriedly running from what seemed like her life. When she saw him, it was like she had the courage to go faster. The girl had bluish, off-white messy and unkempt hair that parted in the middle of her forehead. A horn stuck out of the right side of her forehead, and her eyes were wide and innocent looking, consisting of a bright red color. The clothes, if you could even call them that, were no better than how she looked, with bandages covering various parts of her body as well.
When she reached him, she grabbed his leg for dear life. Izuku could feel the tightness of her little hands on his leg, and he could essentially absorb the fear and desperation from her as well. He bent down, trying to get to her level. She looked up at him, sadness and a plea for help in her eyes.
"Please, help me!"
"I'm sorry for my daughter. She can be… clumsy, at times," a new voice spoke from further down the alleyway, concealed by the darkness.
Footsteps were heard once again, and the little girl that cling to Izuku began to shake uncontrollably. After a moment, another figure emerged, wearing a weirdly designed plague mask. Izuku could sense the deceptive and menacing aura from him, tempted to just glare at him, but kept his composure.
"I thank you for finding her, hero. However, I'm afraid we're running late to a very important appointment."
To be honest I'm a little unsure about this chapter. I may go back and change some things, it'll depend on the reception and how I feel later. Please let me know what you guys think about it in the reviews, they all mean a lot to me!
Yeah, some things are being altered and changed. I'm adding some extra things, as well. I already talked about adding some original villains later, as well, and I think you guys will actually enjoy them with the concept I present them with. Overall, I have an entire story planned if I include them, and I think it's really interesting.
I'm leaving it off on quite the cliffhanger, but there are a few hints going to what'll happen in the future. I'm sure some of you can guess why Izuku's Precognition isn't working right, too.
I still don't know who to give One for All to. I loved some of your suggestions, I hope some of you can provide more and give some good reason as to why they should get it. I want it to be a pretty unique choice, so, again, no Mirio or anyone who gets it regularly in other stories.
Anyway, I hope you all liked this. Please tell me what you think!
