The end of the Mexican war and ascension of the Christian Socialist Party to the governance of Mexico changed the entire history of the Catholic Church decisively. When Pope Pius XI heard the news that homosexuality was legal in Mexico alongside full rights for women he had a minor heart attack. While normally this would be fine at the time he was walking down a rather long set of stairs. By the time he reached the bottom he was dead, and the Papal Conclave of 1932 was called. The three main candidates that emerged were August Hlond the Cardinal of Warsaw, Achille Liénart Cardinal of Lille, and Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli Cardinal of Santi Giovanni e Paolo al Celio. The conclave ended with Achille Liénart elected as Pope John XXIII. While the new pope did not condemn the actions that the Mexican government he did not endorse them merely releasing a brief statement stating that he hoped the people of Mexico were careful in their choices. John XXIII was more focused on finally ending the confused status of the area that the Papacy resided in. His diplomatic requests were met warmly by the Italian government and after several weeks of negotiations the Lantern Treaty was signed formally establishing the Vatican City as the residence of the papacy.

The early part of the War of Ra's Succession was exceedingly brutal as Jaffa and Goa'uld that had been fighting against Apophis in some cases a few seconds ago turned on each other. The former holdings of Apophis had been under the provisional control of Ra and with his death they fell to the three main powers that were emerging in the War of Ra's Succession. The three contenders in the initial opening of the war for the title of Supreme System Lord were Lord Yu, Cronus, and Heru'ur. Each of the claimants carved out their own sphere in the galaxy and attempted to secure recognition from minor system lords and the few civilizations that they recognized as peers. The efforts were usually met with silence.
The initial balance of power was slated heavily towards Heru'ur due to his strong military forces though if the neutrals all banded towards a single claimant they would outnumber Heru'ur decisively. Thus, Heru'ur launched a campaign to sway the neutrals to swear allegiance to him. This was countered by both of the opposing forces and the some of the early decisive battle of the War of Ra's Succession were waged at this time. Ha'taks duelled across the galaxy and Jaffa waged massive campaigns against each other all the while the allied forces expanded their foothold. Several major neutrals fell in battle during the early war allowing the allies to conquer several worlds.
The fall of Amaterasu was the perfect example of how brutal the War of Ra's Succession was. Amaterasu had initially sided with Lord Yu but a large force of Heru'ur had been in the region when she made her choice while she defeated them quickly they brought down a lot of her Jaffa down with them. Then the allies accidently gated to her capital world. The force that stumbled onto the world was JIET-3 (Japanese Interstellar Exploratory Team). Their reaction to finding a Goa'uld that took on the image of Amaterasu was of absolute outrage and they called in as many reinforcements as possible to defeat the false god. The allies were more then happy to comply at first and they managed to capture the area around the Stargate quickly mainly as Heru'ur was landing across the planet.

The American elections of 1932 were a wipe out for the Republican-Progressive Party the Democratic-Conservative Party won the vast majority of the states in the union and Al Smith continued his presidency for another four years. Congress and the Senate had fallen to the Democratic-Conservatives and they were able to pass several of their goals through the government. While originally Al Smith had supported slimming down the American military the Mexican War had propelled him to the far edge of the militarist spectrum. Congress gave approval to establish the United States Air Force and the youngest branch of United States Military was born. Alongside the creation of the United States Air Force the government also mandated that a million men must be under arms at any one time to defend against any attack. The invasion had severely traumatized the southern states and a massive rebuilding campaign was launched. Canals were dug to connect the many craters that the bombardment had in Texas had made to the sea forming the Smith lakes a series of reservoirs across the areas occupied by Hathor. New Orleans was completely rebuilt with many of the funds from the American controlled world of Lincoln directed to the city for it flourish. The intervention of the government into the economy was criticized by several members of the government but the economic damage that Hathor had done to the south of the United States was far too much for any company to rebuild.
The economic growth of the nation was not focused entirely around the south of nation the New England region grew massively as the United Empire of Britannia began to invest in their neighbouring region. The territories of Alaska, Baja California, and Jefferson were developed heavily as some of the technologies that the British had discovered for mining uses were sold to the United States of America for a healthy profit. The United States grew massively as the nation began to jostle with the Germans and French on the status of the world's second power behind the United Empire. The expansion of the military also led to the Navy getting a massive increase in funding the shipyards of New York grew massively and the Americans began to plan a new type of ship. The first Aircraft carrier rolled off the shipyards of New York in 1933 the USS Theodore Roosevelt named after the former President.
