The forces that Seth had managed to seize control over following his escape from Earth had slowly began to enter a period of collapse following the pillaging of Asyût the casualties had been to heavy to recover from. The scattered pathetic raids that they had been forced to descend to were beaten back every time by the defenders and when Sokar turned up his casualties rose as the Unas shredded through the Jaffa. The small force left was broken and demoralized and on the verge of mutiny then on a failed raid on a world under the control of Cronus the address of their homeworld was discovered by the defenders. Cronus ordered an attack on the world to secure a victory to show his crumbling forces that he was still strong. The assault was drastically successful with the near entirety of the defending Jaffa slaughtered while those not killed were captured and dragged of into the torture chambers of Cronus. Seth himself was captured and his execution was used as a massive propaganda piece for Cronus as he placed himself as the heir of Ra. The captured Jaffa had been told the gate address of Earth due to Seth's hope to conquer Earth one day. Thus, as they were tortured they gave every gate address they knew that including Earth. Cronus tore every piece of information that he could about that world and when he learned that the people of the world were the raiders that bore allegiance to the semi-mystical George V that he had fought on Neu Deutschland he saw a chance to prove his strength. He ordered three Ha'taks to head to earth under the command of his first Prime the stage for the Battle of Earth was set all thanks to Seth and his ego refusing to allow him to acknowledge defeat.

The collapse of the Goa'uld Empire and the return of Sokar and the Stirring of the Jackal meant that the Asgard were looking towards the Milky Way with concern they had already destroyed one System Lord attempting to take Cimmeria. The development of destroyers had pushed the Replicators back on every front and Operation Mjolnir was on the verge of being authorized by 1936 so the Asgard where in a perfect spot to return to the Milky Way. The British Ambassador and his Asgard delegate had managed to hammer out the Treaty of New Windsor and the British had authorized the treaty all that was left was the Asgard High Council to agree. The arguments that raged in the High Council are the fiercest in recent Asgard history but after several weeks of debate Thor managed to bring the suggestion to a vote. The vote barely passed, and Thor was authorized to sign the Treaty of New Windsor with the United Empire of Britannia.
The signing itself was a massive event with George V and Thor signing at the same time outside New Avondale surrounded by journalists as the Asgard entered to their first diplomatic status in several thousand years since the end of the Alliance of the Four Great Races.
The treaty of New Windsor in a board sense was a trade and defence agreement dealing with what and how the British could trade to the Asgard often raw resources and the Asgard defence of certain human held worlds. The Asgard were obligated to defend Earth, New Windsor, New Hannover, Neu Deutschland, Nelson, Nova Caledonia, and Nova Cambria. The British were allowed to trade certain resources that that Asgard were running low on and any Alteran technology that they found. The economic benefit to the British and the military benefit to the Asgard were both huge with the intergalactic trade swiftly becoming one of the most profitable businesses in the entire United Empire.

The Ha'taks that Cronus had dispatched to Earth represented the last free Ha'taks he had available and he was gambling on a very dangerous operation. He had attached over ten-thousand Jaffa to the mission which represented the majority of his reserve there was also a chance that the Jackal would strike against the ships and the entire operation would be a greater failure then it was. Alongside the fact that Cronus knew nothing about the defences of Earth and his only experience had been on Neu Deutschland where he and his allies held a large numerical supremacy so one can give him some slack. The plan was still stupid he had no real idea of where the United Empire was and the three Ha'taks had been ordered to cover as much ground as possible so they were split up making it easier to destroy them if they were in a group.

The Kingdom of Hannover had been annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 and had been relegated to a Province in Prussia following the formation of the German Empire. By the 1920s support for separation from Prussia was a small ideological view in the fringes of the population. However, it all turned around following the formation of the French Federation due to the increased rights to minorities and the fringe idea managed to briefly enter the mainstream. The idea was popular enough that the local government was forced to request a referendum only for it to fail brutally. However, Wilhelm III in his position as King of Prussia chooses to grant the meaningless title of Duke of Hannover to the claimant at the time Ernst August. The move was popular despite it only being a fancy title to the Duke of Brunswick. The hope to restore the Hanoverian monarchy was dead permanently the wave had stopped in Germany however in Africa it was only just beginning.
