Since the end of the Russian Civil War the Imperial Duma had been under the control of Vassily Balabanov and the Imperial Unity Party the election of 1937 changed this. The Imperial Socialist Party had been founded after the end of the Civil war in an attempt to make socialism acceptable to the people of Russia. The party was led by Alexander Lvovich Kazembek who had led the party from the fringes of the left to a major political force. By the election of 1934 they were the second largest party in the Imperial Duma and formed the official opposition. The election of 1937 and the swing towards the Imperial Socialists came from the cultural resurgence across Empire with the establishment of local monarchies and when Rurik II of Belorussia openly endorsed the local branch the Imperial Socialists latched on. Emphasizing their support for cultural revivals across the nation they managed to secure both votes from the many minorities across the Empire and the socialist Russian population. When the Imperial Privy Council announced that the Imperial Socialist Party had secured a majority of four seats. At the time Alexander Kazembek was in Kiev and as he took to the stage aside his deputy Roman Gul and they began to speak. Making promises to make Russia great again and bring bread and peace to all he walked onto an unsound part of the stage which broke, and a splinter cut his throat. He would bleed out on the stage and became the Russian Prime Minister with the second shortest tenure. Roman Gul was flown out to Moscow where he commenced his first term as Prime Minister of the Russian Empire.

The United Republican Front for the Liberation of the Chinese People focused mostly on internal reforms and development during the early years of their existence but by 1941 they had ironed out the contradictions in their governance and turned to expansion. The Greater Chinese State was seen as to powerful, so they decided to crush the two other states in southern China. Then the debate turned to which one to attack first with both the Free Peninsula of Leizhou and the Free Canton Republic lying open to attack. The Free Peninsula was a highly militarized anarchist society so while it only controlled the peninsula itself they had dug in well and were awaiting an attack. The Free Canton Republic on the other hand were less dug in but their troops were arguably more fanatic when defending their nation and people. The United Front choose to crush the Anarchists first due to the perceived danger that their ideas posed to the United Front. On the 10th of May 1941 they launched their attack and charged into the Free Territory of Leizhou with the five-colour flag flying, and their few outdated artillery pieces firing. Against them stood the defensive forces of the Black Army. While the Black Army was a group of militias with weaponry ranging from German rifles abandoned after the transition to plasma to weapons produced in the tail end of the 19th century. Despite the difference in equipment the Black Army fought to their last breaths to keep their freedom and they fought well. The campaign nearly became a brutal sludge and in a few places it did, but the Republicans managed to break through by launching a naval invasion just behind the front and attacking from behind. The Black Army was outflanked, and the Republicans pushed forwards towards the coast. The Black Army held out along the coast until the 5th of June when the last pocket was crushed, and the United Republican Front turned towards the Free Canton Republic. The Republican armies entered a period of enforced reform on their forces while they integrated the Leizhou Peninsula.
The United Republican Front were not the only ones to be expanding during the interlude the Greater Chinese State launched a series of western expansions from their westernmost outpost in Chongqing they attacked the last two cliques in China. The Sichuan Clique formally pledged allegiance to the United Republican Front but had resisted any and all attempts to integrate into the front. The Ma Clique had managed to push out forces from both the Khanate of East Turkestan, the Kingdom of Mongolia, and the Qing Empire and remained independent until 1941. The forces of the Greater Chinese State were able to defeat their enemies in battle after battle with their sadism and ideological indoctrination allowing them to break the defenders. Their favourite terror tactic was hoisting the tortured corpses of prisoners next to their flag and march under the rotting corpse of an inferior subhuman as they thought of them and the glorious banner of Chinese rebirth. Of course, as the defenders saw it they were being attacked by insane sadistic madmen that wanted to destroy everything they held dear and they were completely right. The Greater Chinese State had given direct orders and I directly quote from military order No:35 "Slaughter all those who stand against us if you find any inferior race take whatever liberties you want before killing them we will purge the rot from China so forwards comrades and kill those who have betrayed China and the glorious Han race." These guys were insane in one case a group of Blueshirts found an orphanage with non-Han refuge children when they left blood was literally streaming out the door. Another good example is the fall of the Sichuan Clique the last battle was a brutal slog through the city of the same name and when the last defenders surrendered the forces of the Greater Chinese State went on a rampage cutting the population of the city down to two percent of its pre-war population. These men were rapists, murders, looters, paedophiles, and sociopathic madmen there is no excuse for the monstrous actions that the Greater Chinese State committed.

When he returned Anubis mostly focused on Sokar and Heru'ur since they were the strongest of the warlords which is why they survived for so long. Heru'ur is generally thought to have gone insane following the return of Anubis and went full on militarist. To sum up his thoughts he grabbed a big stick and started hitting things in an attempt to deal with his problems and it failed. He lost massive amounts of Jaffa and lots of Ha'taks with every assault he launched. With all on the new offensives he was launching that all failed his enemies began to notice the massive casualties he was taking and began to plot. Cronus saw it as a chance to secure his return and alongside Osiris and Isis he began to launch a series of successful offensives against Heru'ur which threw his chances forward successfully.
