This is a story wherein the United Kingdom finds the Stargate in 1905 and makes it public. Written in the style of a historical text and goes in detail so that to quote one review "WHY any of this is important to anyone not at least in college studying world political history".

109. The end of an era

The Republic of the Andes was a patchwork nation formed by the world powers unifying the ruins of Peru and Bolivia and built in a way that they could never prove a threat to any nation ever again. The way they did this was simple the majority of power in the nation was emplaced in the President, but the President could only be elected with at least 75% of the population voting for them and the parliament voting unaimsly to emplace him. This of course meant that it was near impossible for the President to be elected since well, the majority of the population of the new Republic were isolated shepherds or small towns since the Great Raid had destroyed every settlement larger than around a thousand people. The capital of the Republic of the Andes was a small town not even on the maps prior to the Great Raid and even today after decades of being the capital it is still a collection of huts with a church or as it is better known the Parliament of the Republic of the Andes. Anyway, so because the population was so rural they had very differing political views which resulted in the Parliament being filled with radicals from every major political ideology. For example, there were radical communists who supported the abolishment of the concept of property sitting on the same pew as a radical monarchist who wanted to declare Jesus Christ eternal King of the Andes. Needles to say this resulted in sittings of parliament devolving in brawls before they could even try and elect a President. The fighting got so bad that the only law that was ever passed in the history of the nation made it illegal to bring guns or knives into parliament since it was seen as unfair. The inability of the government to function meant that the already terrible economy plummeted to the point that a pebble picked off the ground was worth more then the Republic of the Andes' entire GDP from foundation to now. Now on to the most well-known feature of the Republic of the Andes their near endless coups. The first was launched by the Communist Party's militia the Shining Path to declare the People's Republic of the Andean Mountains the next week a group of reactionaries who wanted to restore the Incan Empire seized control and the cycle began. Coup's were so common that in one case one happened two hours after the last one. The Republic of the Andes are so incredibly broken that when an Al'kesh crashed into the Lima plain they declared it part of their navy and have kept it there ever since. Not that their neighbours care what the Republic of the Andes is doing save for the butt of jokes or random military interventions by Brazil or Chile. So, the current government of the Andes is let's see. Oh, uranium's on sale ah there. An absolute monarchist regime with Belgian elements and wait yet another coups broken out give me a second. Right so they are currently a Homosexual dictatorship under an anarcho-capitalist framework. Okay so homework for tonight is write an essay on how the current government can survive for more than two days. See you next week. The Tube Alloys had been on the verge of completion by 1942 but the cutbacks of the Eden government led to the project being forced to be shut down for the next few years. When the Eden government fell the new Labour, government agreed to return funding to the project in late 1951. The decade long hiatus meant that the British had to rebuild some of the technology involved in the project due to seeing them as dangerous as technology had advanced beyond them. This delayed the project until late 1952 as the outdated technology was replaced but on the 25th of December project was ready all that was needed was a testing ground. The British government decided to test the effects in an Urban area, so they went to the world of Arrakis a world covered in ancient ruins of an advanced civilization that had collapsed allowing the British to test with out worry. The first detonation was launched from orbit and would detonate ten metres above the ground. The centre of the target zone was annihilated from the fireball and the general estimate is that around a thousand people would have died if the target zone had been populated. The devastation immediately led to the government funding more research into nuclear weapons and their application against the Goa'uld. The Lion had roared.
