Chapter 3:

Marinette Dupain-Cheng and the other Alya Cesaire exit the high school building together, and Marientte didn't really pay much attention to what the other Alya gabbed about. Marinette then realized that Alya is similar to hers, but she's not really her Alya in her other dimension. Marinette and her Alya could talk non-stop together, yet Marinette didn't want to chime into the conversation at all with this Alya. Marinette didn't like how Alya kept gossiping about their classmates, then having this gleam in her eye that made Marinette jittery around her.

"You're quiet, Mari, what gives? The guy you were with last night, screw your brains more than you would have like. Just say the word, honey, and I can totally ruin his social life on my blog." Alya said breezily, yet Marinette could detect the hidden concern and worry in Alya's tone.

Sure, this may not be her Alya, but Marientte could tell their friendship is strong like any other dimension. Marinette needed to start acting like the other Marinette, even though it's easier said than done. Marinette needed to think of an excuse, but Juleka interrupted them.

"Hello, youngsters, how are my baby peeps doing? Did anything happen today or was it the same old same old?" Juleka asked jubiently, smirking at them like a Cheshire Cat.

Marinette's eyes widened, never seeing this Juleka so bold and confident. Juleka's sense of gothic fashion didn't change, but Juleka's personality had a 180 twist than her own Juleka from back home. Marinette started to get worried, since she didn't see Juleka or Rose in class. Although, Marinette wondered why Juleka looked a little bit older than them.

"Girl, just because you're a senior, you still see us as your peeps. You're barely a year older than us, Jules!" Alya said while laughing, which explained Marinette's internal question as to why Juleka looked older and wasn't in their grade.

Juleka looked in Marinette's direction, grinning at her deviously. "Aw, why are you so quiet, Mari-bear? You haven't come to our house in awhile, mom's been asking for ya, and so has my dense brother!" Juleka rolled her eyes at the last part, then started messing with Marinette's hair, which made Marinette laugh while moving Juleka's frantic hands away from her scalp.

"Finally, you got a reaction out of her. I tell ya, Marinette has been so quiet, which is so not like our Marinette." Alya tsked, which made Marinette froze in fear. Juleka looked at Marinette with heavy calculation, making Marinette wonder how close Juleka and Marinette are in this dimension. The way Juleka observed her, Marinette felt like Juleka knew this Marinette very well than anyone else.

"You're right, which just won't do. No excuse, Marinette. You're coming to our cafe/boat home tonight, no exceptions. You can secretly fawn over my brother while we play with our band tonight. Kagami won't be there, which I thought you would like to know, and Luka really does miss you." Juleka explained, making Marientte feel more confused than ever.

"What's wrong with Kagami?" Marinette asked dumbly, having a gut feeling that she needed to confirm something.

Juleka looked at her at mild surprise, but then hid it well. "Since they're dating and all, but I'm guessing it doesn't really bother you anymore?" Juleka asked confusingly, since she knew Marinette pretty well.

Juleka always thought Marinette and Luka would get together in the end, but Kagami happened and Marinette ended up heartbroken to hang around them. Don't get Juleka wrong, she liked Kagami, but her brother's relationship with Kagami always felt forced. Marinette was going to confess to Luka in her sophomore year, but Kagami beat her to it.

"Maybe with the guy Marinette was with last night, made her change her tune!" Alya quipped, which made Marinette blush.

Juleka raised her eyebrows at this, thinking that might have happened. Juleka sensed something different from Marinette, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

"It wasn't that, Alya. Sure, that sounds great Juleka!" Marinette agreed heartily, but Juleka could tell the smile being forced.

Juleka noticed the same sadness, which Marinette carried with her all the time. Juleka then could tell that Marinette wasn't over Luka. Marinette had many barriers around her mind palace, but now she reminded Juleka of an ice queen who shut people out and could be quite mean if attacked. Juleka would admit that Marinette has always been a catty wench, but not as cruel to the rumors she's heard circulating around the highschool lately. This might be her last chance before she graduated that she could make sure Marinette would be fine.

"Anyways, I better see you there, Marinette. Ta da, for now, girls!" With that, Juleka left the girls to look for Rose, leaving the juniors alone again.

For some reason, Marinette got an ugly feeling in the pit of her stomach, and she hated how Kagami kept getting Marinette's love interest in any dimension. However, Marinette liked Kagami as a friend, so she quickly got rid of the negative emotion. Marinette didn't notice a dark butterfly looming over her, but the little akuma quickly disappeared with Marinette's positive attitude. Adrien raised his eyebrows at this, since he was about to subtly get rid of the akuma from Marinette.

Adrien hated how his little crush on Marinette had not disappeared, since he knew that they wouldn't work out. Although, his crush on Marinette back in the 8th grade when his father finally let him go to a real school, he found his heart beating fast when he first saw Marinette. He saw her a lot at the family rich gatherings, but didn't have the guts to approach her without acting like a little school boy with a crush. Adrien admired how cool and confident she acted, without giving a damn what her parents thought of her disgracing their family name. In fact, her rebellion inspired him to stand up for himself more and let him act more freely.

Adrien really wanted to be friends with her, but the poor little naive him didn't really know how to flirt and know how social cues worked back then. His father kept him isolated a lot, so he had trouble making friends and didn't know how to act. The reason he put gum on her chair, since idotic him acted like a little boy wanted to get a girl's attention by pulling on pigtails. Ever since then, he kept saying and doing the wrong thing to piss her off, and she was already a closed off person.

Something was different about Marinette, which he wasn't sure was a good or bad thing for him.

Interlude: Other Marinette

Dear Goody-Two-Shoes,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the honour by pretending to be the other me. You think I would be a snob in your commonor abodobe, but I quite like your attic room and living in the bakery. I got to see your pictures of Adrien on your computer, a little obsessive, but who am I to judge since you probably saw all of the pictures of Luka on my home screen.

Your parents are simply lovely, giving me affection that I'm really not used to back in my home dimension. You're lucky to have great parents, they even made sure I got fattened up before I went to school. I like your Alya, even though I have dearly missed my Alya's crude humor. You know, I'm hoping my Alya is teaching ya not to be such a prude, and live a little under the sheets. I realized you're not the queen bee or should I say Ladybug bee. I'm surprised Chloe is the queen bee, but I wonder if you guys were best friends before. I'm not sure if you know or not, but Chloe and I were childhood friends in my dimension. However, once we reached our freshman year, things changed and I became besties with Alya. I got to say, this catty Chloe in your dimension I would love to be friends with, even though she should know her place by who the real queen bee is.

Don't worry, you're pretty little head, I didn't fight her or anything. I acted like your nauseating sweet self, put Chloe down with a peg or two by my vicious tongue of words, and everything was all dandy. I still can't believe you like Adrien, he's not even that cute without having his bad boy look. However, if you go with boys who you want them to be your prince charming, go right ahead, even though your prince charming is dating Kagami. Argh, it seems any alternate version I've been to, Kagami has had something to with our love interests.

Anyways, you're Luka and my Luka still look so damn fine. I know you like him and all, but it's nice to see a guy giving me heart's eyes. I've waited so long for Luka to give me that adoring look, even though he's not my Luka I grew up with, he is still my Luka deep down. I just couldn't believe you left him hanging this long, so don't worry I will take good care of him while you're away.

I should draw this letter to a close, since I'm getting ready to go out and hear the band play tonight. By the way, I hope you're not spreading your goodness too much, since I still have a reputation to keep. No one has suspected I'm not their Marinette, I hope my people think the same as you.

Love,

The better and badder Marinette

(Back to the alternate dimension)

Marinette stood in the corner of the boat, looking around the glistening lights and sipping on the alcohol beverage Alya handed to her. The Kitty Section band played great on stage, which made Marinette smile by seeing them wearing the familiar costumes Marinette has designed. Marinette noticed other parisian citizens eating and drinking at their tables, clapping along to the music happily. In Marinette's dimension, the Couffaine family weren't cafe owners, but in this dimension they called their place: 'Ahoy Couffaine Cafe'.

A giggle escaped Marinette's throat when she noticed how Alya dragged an unwilling Nino to dance with her. Marientte didn't know their relationship in this dimension, but Marinette was not blind to the radiant chemistry of the pair.

Marinette felt someone watching her, she looked up and tried not to blush at Luka staring at her surprisingly. Marinette gave Luka a thumbs up, which he inclined his head with a smirk. Marinette felt a turmoil of emotions, since this Luka in this dimension was taken. Marinette gathered from Tikki earlier that Marinette practically grew up with the Couffaine family. When the bakery was still open, the Coufaine family used the bakery to sell their goods at their cafe. They both shared profits, and Tom knew Anarka Couffaine ever since they were toddlers. Marinette then found out that Luka and Juleka were fraternal twins in this dimension, yet in her dimension Juleka is the younger sister of Luka. Marinette swore to herself that she was going to document everything later, since she's not sure how much more surprises she could take in this universe.

"Marinette?" Someone familiarly whispered, which made Marinette quickly turn around to face Luka in his costume.

"Hey, you…" Marinette said while blushing, wondering why she's acting like a stuttering mess.

"It's good to see you, Mari, I haven't really seen you much. I know I've been swapped with being a senior, but it's still no excuse of me not trying to ignore you. You're a very good friend to me, Mari, I've missed you." Something in Marinette's heart breaks when those similar words were thrown back to her. Marinette could have empathy for the other Marinette, but the other Marinette must have suffered more since she has loved Luka as kids even.

Marinette forced a smile, "Yeah, it's been awhile. I'm sorry, just things have been crazy," more than you would probably ever know, "However, I think we should hang out more cause I've missed you like crazy too." Marinette finished while trying to fight a choked sob. She really missed Luka, but she just really wanted to go back home so much.

Luka furrowed her eyebrows, about to move a piece of hair away from her, but he stopped when Kagami joined them.

"Luka, there you are. Marinette, it's so good to see you!" Marinette felt like she was getting whiplash when she saw how bubbly this Kagami acted. Marinette had never seen the girl act so cheery, Marinette almost found it a bit scary.

"Hey, love," Luka said while pressing a kiss on Kagami's cheek, which made Kagami giggle shyly in delight.

Marinette felt herself stumped, not liking this jealousy coming onto her with this other Luka having his arms around Kagami. Marinette felt like she needed to leave before she did something stupid. She felt her heart being broken all over again when Adrien chose Kagami in the end. Marinette soberly began to wonder in the end, the people she would fall in love with would be happier with someone else than her?

"I have to go to the restroom real quick, please excuse me. I promise we will hang out more together!" Marinette hurriedly said, missing something important Luka said about schooling he chose after senior year.

Marinette decided to walk back home, carrying those killer heels that Alya suggested over text that she should wear. Marinette didn't feel like herself, even though she wore a sleek mini red dress with an actual alaïa shearling black jacket. The entire outfit reminded her so much of Cher's outfit from the movie Clueless, she just hoped she wouldn't get robbed like in the movie.

Little kitty on a rooftop, all alone without anybody.

Little kitty on the roof, singing all alone tonight.

And his hearts a-wonderin' "oh is there anybody"

Waiting under the full moon's light

Marinette stopped dead in her tracks, remembering the sad melancholic song she had heard in her alternate timeline. She slowly got closer to the bridge over the Seine river, seeing Chat Blanc under the moonlight in sadness.

Leave your hope little kitty,

Your mother is gone,

You will always sing this song,

Alone.

'Mother?' Marinette thought in bewilderment, noticing subtle different lyrics to the song. Did Chat Blanc lose his mom, and he's not using 'lady' in any of his lyrics. Marientte felt like under a trance when she got closer to him.

Little kitty on a rooftop watching oceans rise,

Little kitty on the roof, with nothing else he can do.

Watching all the cities submerge underneath the sea,

Watching the world changing hue.

Marinette could hear the other Tikki warning her inside her purse, telling her how Chat Blanc could use his song to make someone akumatized. Although Marinette took the other Tikki's warning to heart, for some reason she didn't feel as sad as anymore.

Do you not remember,

What you did to them?

You cursed yourself to live out your life,

Alone.

Leave your hope little kitty,

Your mother is gone,

You will always sing this song,

Alone.

"Chat?" Marinette questioned quietly, seeing how Chat Blanc froze in her presence. Marinette felt herself try not to shiver by the cold steel blue eyes, instead of the familiar warmth those green eyes she remembered from her Chat Noir.

He smirked at her sadly, with a dim twinkle in his eye. "Why if it isn't her royal highness, how are ya, princess?" Chat asked with a smirk, which Marinette couldn't help but feel the familairness of the interaction back in her own dimension.

"Like my heart got run over by a truck, kitty, you?" Marinette asked bluntly, since she always felt like she could be honest around Chat, despite having to hide her identity from him. In fact, this Chat Blanc she's around with, she couldn't help but feel the same comfortableness around him.

Chat laughed loudly while giving her a devious grin. "My, my, my, you sure you want to tell little kitty that who's the master of negative emotions."

"I think I'll take my chances," Marinette retorted back while being careful by sitting next to him.

He mistook her carefulness by being around him, which made him a little more guarded. However, she quickly broke down his barrier by revealing, "It's not you, I'm wearing a God damn Alaïa, something this precious needs to be treated carefully." Marinette said so seriously, making Chat laugh genuinely this time.

"Whatever you say, princess," Chat quipped quietly, then they were both silent not knowing what to say with one anonther.

Marinette didn't know what to make of this Chat Blanc, even though he reminded her of so much of her Chat Noir. She knew that this Chat Blanc was her enemy, but he's not acting volatile towards her yet. He even called her princess, which her Chat Noir would call her civilian self. Marinette wondered how close her civilian self was towards Chat Blanc.

"You seem different," Chat said suddenly, making Marinette nervous.

"How so?" Marinette asked back calmy, even though internally she's freaking out.

"Normally, you would have a screaming match if you saw me, and would probably push me off the bridge." Chat answered humoursely, finding the thought funny.

Well, Marinette found out that the other Marinette didn't care for this Chat Blanc, and she has a feeling that it's not mutual on Chat's end.

"Would you believe me if I said I grew up, Chaton. I realized I want a fresh start and am tired of feeling sad all the time. I know it's going to take awhile for my heart to heal, but I want to do better for myself. Starting now, you're looking at a different Marinette, who really wants to be your friend." Marinette put her hand out, looking at him determinedly while having her hand out to him.

Chat stared at Marinette in astonishment, not noticing his white suit got a tiny bit darker on his feet. All his life, Chat dearly wanted a friend. Sure, he had lots of friends, but he only had a handful of friends he could count on his fingers that were his true friends. He always wanted to be Marinette's friend, and he finally now has the chance to take it. She's looking at him so genuinely, but he's so scared of his crush of her resurrecting. He is the cat known for destruction, but maybe it would be nice for Marinette to be his paddle to keep him afloat.

"Have people told you you're crazy, Marinette Dupain-Cheng?" He asked with a smirk, which she returned with a twinkle in her eye.

"Only my friends do," Marinette elaborated with a genuine smile, making Chat Blanc wonder who would dare break this poor girl's heart. Chat Blanc always knew her heart was kept guarded, and he was glad to take a peek of the real Marinette. Chat Blamc heard how their schoolmates compared to her heart being rotten, but he found her having a heart of gold.

"Don't expect to change me, Marinette," He warned seriously, hoping she wasn't getting any ideas thinking his miraculous could go back to normal.

Something wavered in Marinette's shoulders, but she quickly straightened herself in a blink of an eye. "I wouldn't want to change you, kitty, just keep being yourself. You can't really change a person, only influence yourself by the company you keep." Marinette explained wisely, which made Chat stare at her for a moment.

"Well, meow, it's getting pretty late. I can take you home, since a damsel like yourself shouldn't be walking yourself alone in Paris at night." Before Marinette could retort, Chat assumed she said that she could take care of herself. Chat Blanc knew as Adrien she could, but he felt a bit protective over her.

He gave her a piggyback ride while gliding over the many buildings of Paris. He tried to hold in his blush while snuggled herself further into him. Finally, he dropped her off at the terrace from her hotel room, and Marinette couldn't understand why her heart raced when she held onto him.

"Thank you, Chat. Tomorrow night, I'll make us some cookies, so I better see you at my place around a quarter to seven."

Chat gave her bow while licking his lips. "Yes, you're majesty, and she will be gracing her sir knight with cookies. How ever could I refuse," Chat said with a smile, about to depart, but then froze when she gave him a quick hug.

Marinette blushed shyly, not knowing what impulse her to hug him like that. Chat was full on grinning while singing, "If you ever need a hug or something more, all you have to do is ask!" He purred seductively, loving the blush that gleamed on his princeses's cheeks.

"Just, oh, get out of here you pervert. See you tomorrow!" Marinette shut her terrace door, curing up a storm. Chat shook his head, not expecting this night in his wildest dreams.

"You're doing good, Mari, Chat really did need a friend!" Tikki said excitedly, even though Marinette barely paid attention to what the other Tikki said.

Earlier, Marinette felt so depressed with the whole Luka and Adrien thing, but it quickly disappeared when she hung out with Chat Blanc. What she didn't like though, if the roles were reversed, she knew for a fact that Chat Noir wouldn't be available to lift her spirits like that.

What did that mean? For some reason, there's more to Chat Blanc that meets the eyes she discovered. Marinette then remembered something, she didn't have her bakery anymore and wondered was it normal for this Marinette to bake?
