All of the racers were lined up to start the second leg of the World Race. Each of the team leaders were in front, ready to hit the track, when a voice came over the radio, "all drivers check safety harnesses,"
The belt clipped around Ruby's waist, she was a bit worried about Yang, she had a motorcycle, thus no harness to keep her on if something happened. After a little bit the voice came on again, "activating starting drone,"
The robot in front of them flashed red,
"good luck racers," the voice finally said. The drone flashed yellow. Everyone revved their engines, approximately 60 cars all roaring in preparation for the race. Ruby thought of something, she pushed hard on the brake and gas at the same time, her engine roaring above everyone else's, she hit her nitrox booster, the car turning blue as she waited for the light to turn green. The car was starting to push itself outwards, becoming harder and harder to control, then the light turned green. Ruby let go of the brake and her car shot forward, almost immediately reaching 230 MPH and still climbing, she saw Banjee boost soon after, everyone else following. It wasn't long before Ruby hit 300 MPH and the portal opened.
Coming out of the portal into a curve was not the situation Ruby wanted to be in, she turned on road adhesion and took the turn quickly, only losing a little bit of speed.
She turned on her radio, "Roadrunners, activate your road adhesion as soon as you hit the track, 'less you think you can fly,"
She saw everyone else hitting the track, Taro immediately spinning out. With the road adhesion it wasn't long until the rest of her team caught up with her, Yang looking like she was having the time of her life on the bike. After driving through a few more curves someone else caught up with them, slamming into Blake's car and sending her spinning, causing her to crash into Weiss, who hit Ruby, and finally hit Pyrrha. Yang quickly avoided the pileup as Kurt passed them all, before stopping slightly ahead, "hey, you guys alright?"
Ruby rubbed the back of her neck, "yeah, we'll be okay, go get him Yang,"
Yang drove off after Kurt, and Banjee passed through the Roadrunner pileup, shouting out, "see you later Ruby!"
After a few minutes of everyone getting reorientated with their surroundings and most of the race passing them, the Roadrunners started up again. After making it to a double corkscrew and ramp, Weiss called over the radio, "it looks like the Road Beasts and some of the Wave Rippers are taking a different track, think it's faster?"
Ruby looked at her GPS, where she could see the drivers taking the other way, and called back, "it's probably a mistake Weiss, but we can split up just in case. Blake, Pyrrha you think you can handle it?"
Blake called first, "yeah, I can handle it, Pyrrha?"
Pyrrha called, "I'll be alright, maybe this will help us win again,"
Ruby finished the radio call, "alright! Let's win this race!"
The four drivers went around the corkscrew and over the jump, landing on the other side. Blake and Pyrrha split off, taking the purple track off to the side as Weiss and Ruby took the main track, Weiss calling over the radio, "good luck."
The other path ran through a dense forest, but Blake and Pyrrha couldn't afford to be distracted, they had to catch up to at least the Wave Rippers. When they finally reached a clearing they were too late, they saw Vert driving across a collapsing bridge and had to stop lest they fall off the track. Blake got out of her car and looked down, seeing what appeared to be a large canyon with a river at the bottom. She turned around, "looks like we're taking the regular track after all. After getting in her car, she and Pyrrha turned around, heading back the way they came.
After driving for a while and the disappearance of Kurt from the track, Yang heard the cars up ahead slamming into each other. Spying a pileup, she sped up, cutting off Kadeem on his way through. Behind her, Taro passed through the center of the pileup, catching up to Yang.
She shouted over her engines, "hey, looks like the two of us got the lead!"
Taro looked over, "one too many," he shifted up a gear in an attempt to pass Yang, but she kept up beside him. Further down the track the two reached a tunnel that split into two paths, Yang broke right and Taro broke left, each finding that the road kept going. Yang decided to focus on keeping her balance and keeping her speed up, in case Taro got any funny ideas. After a short period of time the caves opened up into a ramp, Yang gripping the handlebars tightly and speeding up off the ramp, she noticed Taro had a more curved ramp to the left of her, causing him to roll over the top of the biker before they both landed on the other side, speeding off down the track.
A bit further behind the two in the lead, Ruby and Weiss were trying to get ahead of Kadeem, who had managed to just barely stay in front of them as a truck passed them with ease, Ruby shouted over the radio, "no way! We're catching that guy Weiss,"
Weiss shifted up a gear, "let's do it,"
Both of them made a final push, both passing around Kadeem with ease before he could do anything about it. Upon catching up to the truck they saw the two racers in the lead, Taro and Yang, with the truck trying to pass through the middle. The guy in the truck looked over to the two people beside him before calling over the radio, "how 'bout giving the new guy a shot at first place?"
Taro looked at him and shook his head, before giving a look to Yang and nodding. Yang returned a manic grin and nodded as well, turning on her road adhesion, before speeding up and slamming into the truck's front as Taro rammed the back, sending the truck spinning. Ruby and Weiss passed by the truck and quickly caught up with the duo in front. Taro, looking to win before the three teammates ganged up on him, turned to Yang on her bike, "I'm going to pass you,"
Yang shook her head, "good luck with that," as she hit her nitrox booster, speeding up as her two teammates caught up with Taro. Before he had the chance to hit his nitrox as well, he felt something slam into the back of his car, sending him spinning. Ruby and Weiss caught up with Yang, ready to exit the dimension and win, when another car boosted right past them and straight into the portal, leaving three shocked drivers to leave the track.
Upon exit, the three Roadrunners saw Kadeem's car waiting just up ahead, the winner of the second leg. Weiss stopped just beside the car and congratulated Kadeem, "good race,"
Kadeem opened the shield on top of his cockpit looking driver's seat, "weren't expecting that, were you?"
Weiss chuckled, "you caught us off guard that's for sure, it won't happen again,"
She drove off to the cube as Taro exited the portal.
AN: I'm still alive, and not some drone Kadeem abomination don't worry. I'm sure you guys are used to my inconsistent upload schedule by now. It's mostly because I start like, five stories at once, then only upload one or two. Besides that, I really just didn't know how to end this chapter. I don't really have much to say honestly, so I'll see you all later. Raz3r out!
