It had been two weeks since Kat, Yuri, Marco and Ehsan were invited to join the league and so far, they had been settling nicely into their new lives, mostly out of necessity because the League hadn't made any progress in finding them a way back home.
"Superman said that it'd take time, but this is ridiculous!" Kat thought as she plopped down on the sofa in front of the TV, the group's only request when it came to living conditions was that the couples would live together which meant Marco and Kat lived in Star City and Ehsan and Yuri lived in Metropolis, an arrangement that suited both couples and the heroes who were paying their rent just fine. "I'm beginning to doubt if I'll ever see mom again."
"Knock, knock." Green Arrow's voice rang out and Kat glanced up to see Green Arrow, in his civilian guise as Oliver Queen, entering the apartment. "Sorry, I had to use my key to let myself in after knocking about twenty odd times."
"I thought I heard something, sorry I was in the shower and Marco's on his Gaming PC, you know how engrossed he gets on that thing." Kat apologized as she leaned back on the sofa. "Here to pester us about getting jobs huh?"
"I don't care what Marco says, streaming video games is not real work." Green Arrow responded as he shook his head and Kat couldn't help but chuckle. "That still leaves you, but I know it's been tough because of your wings."
"And if working from home was an option it wouldn't be." Kat sighed as she folded her arms. "I've been trying to follow in my mom's footsteps and get some kind of job in the restaurant industry, front, back, I don't care, especially since mom opened a successful restaurant despite having no formal training."
"You never said your mom was a restauranteur." Green Arrow commented with a curious look and Kat nodded.
"Yeah, like I said, she has no culinary training, just life experience, I even helped her out in the restaurant early in my career, before I got these." Kat explained as she motioned to her wings. "And that's the main problem."
"Trying to work around the wings in either setting?" Green Arrow asked and Kat nodded. "I've worked with you enough to know how easy they are to accidentally activate."
"I used to do it a lot more when I first got them." Kat nodded before letting out a sigh. "But all it'd take is me referring to the extractor fan and food would go flying everywhere, Marco even suggested that I take up modeling."
"Is he serious about that?" Green Arrow asked with a bemused look on his face and Kat shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm not sure, he did make sure to stress fitness model since I have an athletic background and have the body to prove it." Kat responded as she shook her head. "But I'm still on the fence about the whole idea, that most I can say is my martial arts classes are going well."
"And I would offer to spar with you if I didn't like my bones in their current, not broken state." Green Arrow responded dryly, and Kat shook her head with a chuckle. "Don't worry about the work thing, if it comes to it, I can find you some work, won't be glamorous or anything but it'd be honest work."
"Never really did glamorous anyway." Kat responded as she shook her head. "Even my mom's restaurant is more of a mom and pop joint than anything else."
"Hey, in my experience, those places do much better food than any fine dining restaurant on the planet." Green Arrow responded with a grin before he stood up to leave. "And tell Marco that his turn on monitor duty is coming up."
"Will do, though if I find him watching porn again, I'll have J'onn beam him up with his pants down." Kat responded semi-jokingly and Green Arrow let out a hearty laugh before leaving. "Mom, I know you can't see or hear me but I'm thinking about you a lot." Kat thought with a sigh before glancing over at the picture of Kat and her mother on the coffee table which Green Arrow had had printed off and framed for her from her phone. "Especially since your birthday's coming up soon."
"Kat, was that Green Arrow?" Marco's voice rang out from his room and Kat glanced up. "Is he still not convinced that I'm working from home?"
"You know it." Kat nodded as she shook her head with a laugh. "Also, your up next on monitor duty so get changed into your costume."
"Is it that time already?!" Marco's slightly panicked voice responded before the noise from his desktop stopped abruptly. "Tell J'onn that I'll be ready in a few minutes."
"Will do." Kat nodded before she turned on the TV. "Wonder how Yuri and Ehsan are doing in Metropolis?"
*over in Metropolis*
Yuri and Ehsan had settled into their apartment in Metropolis but even Yuri had to admit that she was feeling homesick from being stuck in the new world for so long, that wasn't stopping her from getting a job however and thanks to her powers not being as obvious as Kat's she was having a much easier time of it.
"Funny, it was the Daily Planet that alerted me to the fight between Metallo and Superman in the first place." Yuri thought as she stepped out of the elevator after letting some other people go first, she glanced around the room and confirmed that she was were she needed to be. "And now I'm applying for a job here, at least I'll get to put my computer skills to use." Yuri thought before she walked over to the reception desk.
"Can I help you miss?" The receptionist asked and Yuri nodded.
"Yeah, I'm here about that job posting for computer technician." Yuri responded as she handed over her c.v., the receptionist looked it over before nodding and passing it back to her.
"You and a couple of others around your age, you are the only woman applying for the job though." The receptionist commented before pointing her in the right direction. "You are looking for Mr. White's office, it's at the end of that hallway, on the right." He added and Yuri grinned.
"Thanks!" Yuri responded before she turned around and started walking in the direction of the office. "Okay, I was applying for a job back home that was similar to this, should be simple enough to remember what I practiced for that interview and apply it here."
"I see you made it." A familiar voice rang out and Yuri looked up seeing Superman, or at the very least Superman in his civilian guise as Clark Kent, Yuri barely managed to stop herself from calling him Superman as he led her down the hall. "Did you find the Daily Planet building okay?"
"Well enough, considering I'm in a new city and all." Yuri responded with a shrug as the Japanese American woman followed Clark. "Not to mention a whole new dimension, my parents must be worried sick."
"Don't worry Yuriko, you'll get used to." Clark assured her and Yuri grinned in response. "Target disappeared from the face of the Earth after his attempt on Firefly's life but at least Firefly's back in Arkham Asylum, still I'd better be vigilant." Yuri thought before she found Perry White's office, as the receptionist said there were several other applicants after the position, but she was the only woman among them. "Not to mention the only Asian person." Yuri thought as she glanced at the men, two white men and the one closest to her looked to be mixed race. "Here's hoping I get the job."
*back in the other dimension*
Whilst the four heroes were settling in at the new dimension the heroes back home were trying to get the dimensional portal generator working again, why?
"Let me get this straight, SHIELD built a dimensional portal generator that broke after one use." Iron Man grumbled as he inspected the device alongside Captain America. "I told you we should've sent back up with Kat, Yuri, Ehsan and Marco."
"I offered to send backup, but they insisted that they could handle it themselves." Cap responded as he shook his head before sighing. "As for the generator, it's a prototype, SHIELD built it to deal with extradimensional threats such as Mephisto but it's very unstable." Cap added before turning to the engineer that operated it. "And your certain that you don't know where they went?"
"Even if I did, there's no way to go there until the generator's fixed." The engineer responded as he shook his head., "Target held me and my colleagues at gunpoint and made us input the coordinates, I was too busy thinking about my family to memorize them."
"And even if we do get it up and running, there's no way to know where they went." Iron Man responded before Adriana and Claudia, the twin Mexican superheroes known as Lo Divino and El Sombre flew in from the upper floors of the warehouse. "Tell me you found something."
"Yes and no, we didn't find the coordinates in what uses to be the manager's office." Adriana responded as she shook her head. "But what we did find was eye opening, Target, Hellraiser and Shockwave weren't going into this blind."
"They knew what they were doing and where they were going?" Iron Man asked as he scratched his chin and Adriana nodded.
"We know that Target has a genius level IQ from his sessions with the prison shrink and as insane as Jessica is, she was never stupid." Claudia continued before shaking her head. "But Hellraiser? We thought he was just the dumb muscle but nope, he did most of the research into the dimension they escaped too, based on the files we found, we know that this dimension has it's own Superheroes and Supervillains and has several cities that are unique to that dimension."
"At least they are keeping themselves busy in there." Iron Man nodded before the portal came to life. "How did that happen?!"
"I don't know but I can't shut it off and it's too powerful." The engineer responded as he typed away frantically at the keyboard. "The previous coordinates are still punched in."
"Meaning that this is our chance." Adriana responded before nodding to her twin and they flew towards the portal.
"Wait!" Iron Man called out to them, but it was too late as the twin sisters entered the portal and it closed seconds later. "We need to get this thing back to SHIELD HQ before we send every graduate from the internship after them."
"Tony, go to the manager's office and get the documents they talked about." Cap instructed him and Iron Man nodded before flying up to the second floor. "It's been two weeks since they went in there and now, we've lost two more heroes, this isn't good."
*later, back in the other dimension*
Yuri's job interview went well in her opinion and right now she was back in her Silent Tempest costume flying around the city on patrol.
"I still can't find my way around this place." Yuri thought as she flew around the city. "It's so much bigger and more futuristic than New York, and New York isn't exactly a small place! Then again, I've lived in New York all my life and Metropolis for two weeks tops so what do I…..." Yuri's train of thought was interrupted when she heard thud atop a nearby building and stopped in her tracks. "Either I'm hearing things, or something just landed on that building, better check it out." Yuri thought before she started flying up to the roof.
"Ugh, my head." Adriana groaned as she messaged her forehead, she looked around and realized that she was alone. "Claudia? Claudia, where are you?!" Adriana called out to her sister and when she heard her friend's voice Yuri sped up her pace to the roof. "Oh dios, where the hell am I?"
"You're among friends for one thing." Yuri responded as she landed on the roof and Adriana span around. "If you're after something more specific, welcome to Metropolis." Yuri added before removing her mask and showing her relieved face. "Adriana."
"Yuri?!" Adriana greeted her friend before running up and hugging her which the Japanese woman returned. "Me and Claudia thought we'd never see you again."
"At the moment, it looks like I won't see anyone from back home again." Yuri responded as she broke the hug. "I was split off from the others when I went through the portal, it seems that the same thing happened to Claudia…." Yuri trailed off before a look of hope washed over her face. "They got the generator working?!"
"It came on by itself somehow and we jumped in." Adriana responded as she shook her head and Yuri sighed. "The portal closed after I was dumped here so I'm guessing it shut off again."
"You'd think SHIELD would test their new tech." Yuri responded with an annoyed sigh and Adriana nodded in agreement. "As I was saying, after I was dumped here I quickly came into contact with one of this universe's most powerful heroes by the name of Superman, I think he's the closest this place has to Captain America in terms of personality only he's a lot more powerful."
"So, the chances of Kat telling this guy to go to hell are about zero to none?" Adriana responded with a grin and Yuri chuckled.
"We're never letting her live that down, aren't we?" Yuri responded with a laugh but before Adriana could respond they heard a bank alarm going off nearby. "Either they are testing the fire alarms or there's a robbery." Yuri commented before putting her mask hack on. "My money's on robbery ironically enough, do you want to bust it up for old time's sake?"
"Just like old times." Adriana responded with a massive grin on her face before they flew towards the bank.
*inside the bank*
"Go along little kiddies." A childish voice rang out as the Toy Man operated a giant, toy like mech and the bank patrons made a break for the door. "The Toy Man wants his pocket money!"
"Toy Man?" Adriana asked with a raised eyebrow as they approached the bank and Yuri shook her head.
"He's one of Superman's more unique enemies, he's a deranged toymaker who makes weapons out of his toys." Yuri explained with a sigh and Adriana raised an eyebrow. "This guy is a lot more dangerous than I'm making him sound, he's one of the few villains to ever kill Superman."
"I'm guessing he got better?" Adriana asked and Yuri nodded. "Well, I guess I've gotta start somewhere, let's go!" Adriana added before they flew into the bank. "Hey, didn't your mother tell you that your too old to play with toys?!" Adriana called out to Toy Man and the mech turned around showing the little man in the creepy dolls head mask. "I barely know this guy, yet this is easily the creepiest villain I've ever seen, and my first battle was against Swarm!"
"Silent Tempest has brought a new friend to play." Toy Man responded in his monotone voice as the two female heroes stared him down. "Pity, I was hoping to play with Superman!"
"Toy Man, you have no powers of your own, why would you want to face Superman?" Yuri asked with a skeptical look on her face though she could not read his facial expressions for obvious reasons. "The last time you faced Superman was over in minutes, just turn yourself in before me and Lo Divino here beat you up."
"Because the Toy Man isn't playing around." Toy Man responded as a series of pounding footsteps echoed throughout the bank. "Isn't that right, Bane?"
"Oh shit!" Yuri thought as the huge, muscular supervillain stepped forward from behind the mech. "Batman do you copy? One of your guys is on vacation in Metropolis."
"Which one?" Batman's voice rang out as Adriana got ready for battle.
"Bane, you know, big muscular dude on enough steroids to win three Olympic gold medals?" Yuri responded as she stared down the two Supervillains. "Also, I'll explain later but one of my friends from the other dimension has crossed over."
"I'll send you backup, I'm busy in Gotham City at the moment." Batman responded but Yuri failed to notice Adriana flying into battle. "As for Bane, target the tubes on his back and he loses his power."
"Got it, okay Lo Divino…" Yuri trailed off before she saw Adriana getting tacked into the wall by Bane after unsuccessfully trying to pin him to the opposite wall with light energy. "I know I should've told her to wait for my signal! I'm coming!"
"Not so fast, Toy Man wants to play with you Silent Tempest!" Toy Man responded before using one of his mech's arms to punch Yuri and send her flying, Yuri was barely able to stop herself from going through the wall and she glared at Toy Man.
"Fine by me Toy Man." Yuri responded before forming a large fist made of air with her powers, without a second thought she threw it at Toy Man's mech knocking him backwards. "Adriana, can you hear me?" Yuri said into her earpiece.
"Can this wait?" Adriana responded as she knocked Bane back with a light energy blast. "Currently trying to beat a guy who's at least twice my height and weight!"
"I'll keep this quick, aim for the tubes." Yuri responded before Toy Man threw another punch at her which Yuri caught with the wind hand.
"Tubes?" Adriana thought before looking up and spotting the tubes going into Bane's back. "Got it." Adriana nodded once she got the idea and fired a light energy blast at one of the tubes knocking it off.
"What?!" The Latin American Supervillain demanded once he realized that one of the tubes had come lose. "I still have plenty of venom left little girl."
"You willingly injected yourself with something called venom?" Adriana asked with a dumbfounded look on her face. "Wow, you really are as dumb as you look!"
"Far from it." Batman's voice responded through Adriana's earpiece. "He has photographic memory, a genius level intellect and is fluent in Spanish, German, French, Russian, Mandarin, English, Urdu, Farsi and Latin."
"Right, and you are?" Adriana asked as she dodged out of the way of Bane's charge.
"I am Batman, Bane is normally one of my enemies, what he's doing in Metropolis I don't know." Batman explained as Bane turned around. "He is addicted to Venom, that is why he commits crimes."
"And I thought my universe's version of venom was bad." Adriana thought before Bane tackled her to the ground. "Anything else?" Adriana asked before knocking Bane back with a bright flash.
"Once this fight is over you will be beamed up to the Watchtower for a debriefing, Yuri should've done that the moment she found you." Batman responded and Adriana frowned. "These villains are dangerous."
"I gathered that." Adriana responded as she kipped up to her feet. "But this aint my first rodeo, I've been doing this almost as long as Yuri, Kat, Marco and Ehsan have, same goes for my sister who crossed over with me."
"If you mean Claudia, we found her." Batman responded as Adriana knocked off another tube. "I'd send her down but she's being debriefed."
"That's good to know at least." Adriana responded as Bane got back to his feet. "If he's as smart as Batman says he is, maybe I can talk him down." Adriana thought before floating down to the ground. "Entonces, ¿era Bane? Dime, ¿por qué dejas que un debilucho como él te mande?" Adriana asked him in Spanish and Bane paused.
"Toy Man me ofreció una parte de las ganancias, lo necesito para comprar más veneno." Bane responded as his eyes narrowed. "¿Tu hablas español?"
"¿Hablalo? ¡Soy Mexicana, el español es mi primer idioma!" Adriana responded before hearing a cry of pain as Toy Man pinned Yuri to the wall with his mech's arm. "¡Llámalo de Bane y tal vez el DA te sea fácil!"
"No, estamos ganando esta pelea, y me canso de esta conversación." Bane responded before bullrushing Adriana before she had a chance to react and pinning her against the wall, Adriana tried to knock him back again but got the wind knocked out of her with two powerful blows. "¿Alguna última palabra señorita?" Bane asked just as Adriana spotted the reinforcements arriving.
"¡Sí, solo dos, detrás de ti!" Adriana responded before Bane spun around in time to see Superman's fist collide with his face, Adriana looked him over before peeling herself off the wall. "Superman I assume?"
"Yes, but we can go over introductions later." Superman nodded before using his x ray vision on her. "You have four broken ribs, I'm beaming you up before things get worse."
"You can tell that at a glance?" Adriana asked with a surprised look on her face. "And no, I can still fight!"
"I'll explain later, and I wasn't asking." Superman responded before putting a hand to his earpiece. "J'onn?"
"I'm on it." J'onn responded before beaming Adriana up to the watchtower, as that happened Yuri broke free and punched through the glass shield with her wind fist.
"Playtime's over Toy Man." Yuri commented before she reached into the cockpit and pulled out Toy Man before knocking him out. "So Supes, how does fifteen years to life worth of time out sound to you?"
"Sounds perfect, but we need to talk." Superman responded before Bane charged at him, Superman sidestepped him and removed the remaining tubes rending Bane unable to fight. "You put your friend's life in danger."
"I didn't you Bane was here, I thought he normally operated in Gotham." Yuri defended herself as she floated down. "Besides, Adriana and Claudia have done this before, almost as long as I have."
"You can explain that to Batman later in the Watchtower, for now let's ensure that these two are handed over to the proper authorities." Superman nodded before leading Yuri out of the bank.
