The Imperial Federation of the Danube had established two states in their north-east representing the division between the ethnically Polish West Galicia and the ethnically Ukrainian East Galicia. The areas had become the most pro-independence following the Ausgleich of 1927 though by a slim margin as both the Serbian majority in the Vojvodina, and the Romanian majority in Transylvania both had strong pro-independence views. The reason that it was so noted in north in the Galician states was that those regions had long been seen as economic dead-zones and even as the Danubian economy grew massively from the Goa'uld War Galicia reaped little of the benefit from that growth. So, the desires for union with their ethnic breather grew at greater speeds then elsewhere in Danubia. The largest growth was in the Polish East Galicia as to their north the Kingdom of Poland was in the midst of a cultural renaissance as King Jadwiga II continued her father's polices of cultural education. The demands of the people of Galicia were made abundantly clear in 1955 with massive protests dragging Krakow to a halt following the death of a Polish citizen in police custody demanding a referendum on joining the Kingdom of Poland the protests represented one of the greatest threats to the Imperial Federation of the Danube yet.
The response to the protests was divided in two with the more liberal side of the Imperial Council supporting compromising with the protesters while the conservatives supported cracking down on the protesters with some hardliners even calling for the military to intervene. At the time Emperor Karl was fasting in the alps during his annual pilgrimage so he was unable to intervene and the Imperial Council was reduced to bickering. The lack of a response from Vienna only made the protests in Galicia worse as the protesters were met with confusion allowing them to grow larger as there was no clear crackdowns. The worsening of the protesters only made the government more divided with hardliners coming out of the woodwork calling for the protesters to be charged with treason as the political scene of the Imperial Federation of the Danube was on the verge of collapse. Then after three months of debate and gridlock Emperor Karl I returned from his pilgrimage bursting into the Imperial Council in sandals, a tattered robe, and covered in hair. Immediately ordering every politician to be quiet as he took the floor. He gave a long rambling speech on the love of Christ extending to all mankind and that every human has the right of liberty, freedom, and equality before the eyes of god. Then he turned around and swept from the chamber back to the Hofburg for a shave presumably. The Imperial Council's reaction to their monarchs speech was mixed with the Liberals arguing that the message of liberty and equality supported their point while the conservatives argued that he was not in the best shape. However, with their monarch generally supporting the rights of the people some of the stauncher monarchists threw their support behind the Liberals who managed to secure power over the negotiation with the protesters.
The initial negotiation efforts were absolute failures with the protesters refusing to bend from their demand of a referendum on joining Poland. But the second rounds was more successful with the Danubian offers to grant Galicia more autonomy countering the demands to grant Galicia at the very least independence. One offer was to share the title of King of Galicia with the Polish monarch but that was shot down as it was just a sop to the protesters giving no meaningful change. The compromise that seemed to appear was establishing joint custody over the region with a referendum on the status every decade. The offer was accepted by the Polish government and the Commonwealth of Galicia was formed on the 1st of January 1956 the Galician Crisis was over and Danubia had survived the struggle.

The initial forces at the beginning of the Second Golden Age of Piracy those being the Goa'uld Empire, the Lucian Alliance, and the allies never all met with the Lucian Alliance and the allies missing each other by minutes in some cases but that changed in late December 1955. The first meeting between the two was when a British warship the HIMIS Sir Francis Drake was hunting a Goa'uld trade ship and arrived just as the Lucian Alliance that had been lying in the wings stormed the vessel. The British assumed that the Lucian Alliance ship could be negotiated with. The British opened dialogue and were coldly rebuffed with the Lucian Alliance turning their guns on the ship. The British reacted with shock and requested the Lucian Alliance to respond then the ship opened fire on the HIMIS Sir Francis Drake. The British responded with full force managing to storm the ship with their detachment of Imperial Marines capturing both the Lucian Alliance ship and the Goa'uld trade ship. The Sir Francis Drake revealed the existence of the Lucian Alliance and their power for if they were raiding the trade of the Goa'uld at the rate the captured crew had said it meant that the Goa'uld were on a very bad footing. The Lucian Alliance did not know about the British but one of their greatest rivals had just discovered them and one of the stages for the Post Goa'uld Wars was set.

The Battle of Avalon was the final action of Operation Grenade as allied forces under the command of IIET-1 stormed the last linchpin of the Goa'uld Empire in the eastern fringe of the galaxy. The world had a strong garrison but a minute population reflecting how the secession of Lord Yu had catapulted the world to importance. Of course, with a small population the allies could attack with their full force without worry for the civilians. They attacked with waves of Landcrawlers with Death Gliders and artillery blazing as John Churchill led the charge from his personal Landcrawler 'Flower of Scotland'. The battle was an a decisive victory for humanity with massive defections from the defending Jaffa following the death of their commander via an arrow in the left eye. As the allies swept across the planet wiping up and eliminating the last few Goa'uld forces the planning for Operation Gauntlet began.
